Did Products Compared test these compressors in a lab?

No. Scores and notes come from amazon.co.uk listing text, customer-review themes on those ASINs, and public UK sources cited on the comparison pages, such as HSE compressed-air guidance. Flow, noise and tank figures are seller claims unless a listing prints a test method. Stars and review counts are the UK figures on the listing at the date on that page.

What is the difference between a tyre inflator and a workshop compressor?

A 12 V or handheld inflator tops up a car, bike or ball tyre. It has little or no stored air volume for a nailer, a blow gun or a spray gun. A corded receiver stores compressed air so the motor can rest between bursts. Several comparisons here include both types in one table. The portable air compressor page separates car pumps from small tanks. Read tank litres and a flow figure together, not the title alone.

Are the compressors on these pages oil-free?

Most domestic listings in this hub state oil-free pumps. Oiled belt-drive machines and separate oil-lubricated ranges appear on some brand pages and subpages, such as Scheppach oil-free versus oil and Metabo oil or oil-free notes. An oil-free label does not remove water in the tank. Drain condensate on the schedule in the manual. Oil residue in condensate still belongs in a collection point, not a household sink.

Do I need a written scheme for a garage air receiver?

UK pressure-system law depends on use, not only size. HSE INDG178 explains when a compressed-air receiver may need a written scheme of examination under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations. A large portable receiver at work can cross thresholds stated in bar-litres on the subpages. Domestic DIY in a private garage is not automatically exempt from good practice on draining, safety valves and damage checks. This hub does not replace a competent person's advice.

How do pressure washers relate to air compressors here?

Pressure washers use an electric or petrol pump to push water at high pressure. They share shelf space with compressors because many buyers shop both for cleaning and workshop air. Eight washer comparisons and related brush pages live in this hub. They are not powered by your air tank unless a listing says so. Compare bar, flow and UK plug or engine rules on the washer page, not on a compressor page.

What should I check before sandblasting or a cabinet purchase?

Sandblasting needs sustained airflow and dry air more often than peak bar on the gauge. Cabinet, gun, portable pot and media pages in this hub each state the listing's compressor requirement where it is printed. A small 6 L receiver may not keep a cabinet running. Match free-air delivery or litres-per-minute claims, and treat conflicting figures on one listing as a red flag. Wear the PPE the media supplier specifies.
