The best hot air guns, compared.

Top pick: Beyondlife BYHQ Best value: SEEKONE HG886 – Lowest price among two-step guns with a stated low of 400°C or below and at least 1,000 reviews: about £16.99, 4.6 from 3,145 reviews. No scraper, and 220 V only. Updated 20 October 2026.

A hot air gun, usually searched as a heat gun, blows air over a heating element so you can strip paint, shrink tubing, soften adhesive or shape plastic. In the UK the typical buyer is a home renovator comparing a corded gun with chemical stripper, plus crafters doing heat-shrink. It is whether you can hold a temperature that suits the job, whether the listing states 230 V, and whether reviews show the gun surviving more than a first afternoon. The Health and Safety Executive tells employers to keep hot-air guns below 500°C where paint may contain lead, and not to use blow lamps. For old gloss, read the [paint stripping](/hub/compressors/hot-air-gun/sub/hot-air-gun-paint-stripping) notes before you buy on watts. Two-setting corded guns offer a fixed low and a fixed high. Variable corded guns add a dial and two airflow steps.

The best hot air guns in detail

Beyondlife BYHQ

Rank 1

Beyondlife BYHQ

∼£195

Our view

The Beyondlife BYHQ at £194.99 is a 1600 W plastic-welding kit, not a bare paint-stripping gun. The listing states nine levels from 30–650°C and includes a spare element, welding nozzles, a groover, knives, filler rods and a silicone roller. amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from 2 reviews, and the file has no review text. Voltage and cable length are missing. A bullet says less than 3 lb while the item-weight field says 2.48 kg. Two stars with no written reviews are not a reason to rank it above a gun with thousands of reviews. Buy it only if you need rod nozzles for vinyl flooring, tarpaulin, tank or bumper work. Treat the weight line as unresolved.

Pros

  • Nine stated levels from 30–650°C
  • Welding nozzles, spare element, groover, rods and a roller
  • Electronic heating protection claimed
  • A different tool from the £14–£26 paint guns

Cons

  • £194.99 with 5.0 from only 2 reviews and no review text
  • Voltage and cable length are not stated
  • Weight lines disagree: under 3 lb and 2.48 kg
  • Not a paint-stripping kit

Best for: You need a hot-air welder with rod nozzles, and you can live with almost no UK review text.

Less suitable: You are stripping gloss or shrinking ordinary tubing and expected a heat gun under £30.

The listing is a hot-air plastic welder for vinyl flooring, tarpaulins, tanks and bumpers, sold with filler rod and speed-welding nozzles.

How many UK reviews are in the file?

The listing shows 5.0 from 2 reviews. The saved listing has no review text.

Do the weight figures agree?

No. A bullet says less than 3 lb. The item-weight field says 2.48 kg.

BLACK+DECKER KX1650-GB

Rank 2

BLACK+DECKER KX1650-GB

∼£18

Our view

The BLACK+DECKER KX1650-GB at £18.00 is the clearest mains listing in this set: 230 V, a 2 m cord, 1750 W, and 4.7 from 1,629 reviews. Both stated heats are 570°C and 740°C, so neither step can meet a 500°C cap on paint that may contain lead. The included-components line is the gun, and reviewers say no attachments were supplied. A built-in stand is claimed. The listing weight is 376 g. The plug standard is not named, even though the voltage is. Choose it when the job can take those two high settings and you want a stated 230 V gun. Skip it for old gloss, or for heat-shrink that needs a concentrator in the box.

Pros

  • 230 V and a 2 m cord stated
  • 4.7 from 1,629 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Built-in stand claimed
  • Listing weight 376 g

Cons

  • Both steps are 570°C and 740°C, above 500°C
  • No nozzles on the included line
  • Scraper not included
  • Plug standard is not named

Best for: You want a named 230 V gun for work that can take 570°C or 740°C, and you already have nozzles.

Less suitable: You may be stripping pre-1980s paint, or you need a concentrator and a scraper in the box.

Common questions

Does the KX1650-GB state 230 V?

Yes. The amazon.co.uk technical block says 230 V and a 2 m cord. It does not name BS 1363.

Can either setting stay under 500°C?

No. The listing states 570°C and 740°C. Both are above 500°C.

Are nozzles in the box?

The included-components line is the gun only. Reviewers say no attachments were supplied.

SEEKONE SDL-2816

Rank 3

SEEKONE SDL-2816

∼£26

Our view

The SEEKONE SDL-2816 at £25.99 is the fullest corded kit in this amazon.co.uk set: a stated 50–600°C dial, five nozzles including a glass-protection nozzle, a scraper and a putty knife. Step I is 50–450°C at 190–210 L/min and step II is 50–600°C at 250–500 L/min, so the low end of the dial can sit under 500°C. Across 5,678 reviews it holds 4.6, and the listing is rank 1 in Heat Guns on that capture. Reviewers often call the stated 5.25 ft lead short. The voltage field is missing, so a 230 V figure and a BS 1363 plug are not shown. The high step still reaches 600°C, which is the wrong setting where paint may contain lead. It weighs 900 g.

Pros

  • Stated dial from 50–600°C, with a 50–450°C airflow step
  • Five nozzles, including a glass-protection nozzle
  • Scraper and putty knife in the box
  • 4.6 from 5,678 amazon.co.uk reviews

Cons

  • Voltage is not stated
  • Cable is listed as 5.25 ft, and reviewers often call it short
  • Step II is stated up to 600°C

Best for: You want a dial you can keep under 500°C and the largest nozzle and scraper kit in this set.

Less suitable: You need the listing to state 230 V, or you only want a fixed 400°C step at a lower price.

SEEKONE HG886

Rank 4

SEEKONE HG886

∼£17

Our view

The SEEKONE HG886 at £16.99 is a 2000 W two-step gun with stated outputs of 400°C and 600°C, four nozzles, and 4.6 from 3,145 reviews. The 400°C step can sit under 500°C, and the listing has no lower setting. It states 220 V, does not name a BS 1363 plug, leaves the cable length blank, and does not include a scraper. Reviewers often call the lead short. At this price it is the best value when a heavily reviewed two-step gun is enough and you already have a scraper. It is the wrong gun if the job needs a temperature below 400°C, and it weighs 575 g.

Pros

  • Stated 400°C and 600°C, so the low step is under 500°C
  • Four nozzles: reflector, deflector and two concentrators
  • 4.6 from 3,145 reviews at £16.99
  • 575 g, lighter than the variable SEEKONE

Cons

  • No setting below 400°C
  • 220 V stated, and no BS 1363 plug named
  • Cable length not stated; reviews call the lead short
  • Scraper not on the included line

Best for: You want a two-step gun with a large UK review file and a 400°C low setting, and you already own a scraper.

Less suitable: You need a dial below 400°C, a stated 230 V figure, or a scraper in the box.

220 V. It does not say 230 V and it does not name a BS 1363 plug.

Yes. The included line lists a reflector, a deflector, and large and small concentrator nozzles. A scraper is not listed.

AIUNAOM HG02

Rank 5

AIUNAOM HG02

∼£17

Our view

The AIUNAOM HG02 at £16.89 is a 2000 W listing at 4.5 from 2,768 reviews, with step I stated as 50–450°C and step II as 50–650°C at 250 or 500 L/min. The title says two temperature settings and the bullets also say nine, while the included line names a scraping knife and four nozzles. Voltage and cable length are missing. One UK review says full heat trips a fuse and the lower setting still strips paint, more slowly. The listing says mica paper may smoke for about a minute at first and tells you to ventilate for about three minutes. The lower band can sit under 500°C, but treat the nine-setting line as unresolved until the gun matches one description. It weighs 1 kg.

Pros

  • Stated bands of 50–450°C and 50–650°C
  • Scraping knife and four nozzles on the included line
  • 4.5 from 2,768 reviews at £16.89
  • Overload cut-out claimed

Cons

  • Title says two settings and the bullets also say nine
  • Voltage and cable length are not stated
  • One review says full heat trips a fuse
  • Step II is stated up to 650°C

Best for: You want a large review file and a stated band under 500°C, and you can ignore the conflicting settings count.

Less suitable: You need one clear control description, a stated cable length, or a gun that reviews do not associate with a fuse trip on full heat.

JOJOREC Hg2600

Rank 6

JOJOREC Hg2600

∼£15

Our view

The JOJOREC Hg2600 at £14.99 states a stepless dial, step I at 50–300°C and step II at 50–600°C, airflow of 250 or 500 L/min, and 2000 W in the title. It is 4.5 from 349 reviews. A bullet lists three nozzles, a scraper, heat-shrink tubes and a cable of about 1.7 m, while a specification line says the box is the heat gun only, and voltage is not stated. The listing says not to run step II through a tight focusing nozzle for more than a few minutes, and to cool the gun for 5 minutes on strong wind before storage. It is the cheapest stated dial in this set if the box matches the bullet. It is a weaker pick if you need a stated 230 V figure, and it weighs 860 g.

Pros

  • Stated dial: 50–300°C on step I and 50–600°C on step II
  • About 1.7 m cable and a hanging hook claimed
  • Bullet lists a scraper, three nozzles and shrink tubes
  • £14.99, the lowest dial price in this set

Cons

  • Voltage is not stated
  • A spec line says the box is the heat gun only
  • 349 reviews, far fewer than the SEEKONE files
  • High step through a small nozzle is time-limited on the listing

Best for: You want a low-priced dial with a stated band under 500°C and you can check the box contents on arrival.

Less suitable: You need a stated 230 V line, or you want a review file in the thousands.

What should you do before storing it?

The listing says switch to strong wind, turn the dial fully left, and wait 5 minutes.

Does it state a voltage?

No. Power is mains AC. Voltage and plug type are not stated.

AIUNAOM QR-85A

Rank 7

AIUNAOM QR-85A

∼£16

Our view

The AIUNAOM QR-85A at £15.59 states two bands, 50–400°C at 250 L/min and 50–650°C at 500 L/min, on a 2000 W gun with four nozzles, a 1.6 m cable and 4.4 from 247 reviews. A hands-free base is claimed, a scraper is not listed, and voltage is missing. The listing says a faint white mist or odour on first use can appear and tells you to ventilate. The low band can sit under 500°C and the high band, stated to 650°C, cannot. It suits a short stated lead and a low band if you already own a scraper. It weighs 910 g.

Pros

  • Stated bands of 50–400°C and 50–650°C
  • Four nozzles and a 1.6 m cable
  • Hands-free base claimed
  • £15.59 with 4.4 from 247 reviews

Cons

  • Voltage is not stated
  • Scraper is not listed
  • 247 reviews, a smaller file than the other AIUNAOM
  • High band is stated up to 650°C

Best for: You want a stated low band under 500°C, four nozzles and a 1.6 m lead, and you already have a scraper.

Less suitable: You need 230 V on the listing, a scraper in the box, or a review file in the thousands.

COMTO 1800 W

Rank 8

COMTO 1800 W

∼£20

Our view

The COMTO SG-1004 at £19.99 states 1800 W, 230 V AC, a 1.8 m cord and a range of 50–650°C, with 4.4 from 120 reviews. Reviewers say there is no degree indicator and they judge the heat by eye, and that the gun stands upright. The title includes four nozzles and a protective cover. An overload cut-out is claimed in the title. The plug standard is still not named. You can intend to stay under 500°C, but you cannot read the temperature on the gun. It is the other stated 230 V option beside the BLACK+DECKER, at a higher price, with nozzles that the BLACK+DECKER included line does not list. It weighs 900 g.

Pros

  • 230 V AC and a 1.8 m cord stated
  • Stated range 50–650°C
  • Four nozzles and a protective cover in the title
  • Reviewers say it stands upright

Cons

  • Reviewers say there is no degree readout
  • 120 reviews, a modest file for a £19.99 gun
  • Plug standard is not named
  • High end is stated at 650°C

Best for: You want a stated 230 V gun with nozzles in the title, and you are willing to judge the heat by eye.

Less suitable: You need a numbered dial you can set and read, or a review file the size of the SEEKONE listings.

JFTOOIS V-F3000A

Rank 9

JFTOOIS V-F3000A

∼£14

Our view

The JFTOOIS V-F3000A at £13.99 is the lowest shelf price in this set: a two-gear button, no stated degree steps, 1300 W in a bullet, 220 V in the specification, and four nozzles on the included line. It is 4.2 from 95 reviews. One reviewer says it stopped during light use, and another says the heat was lower than they needed. The power-source field says ac_dc, a UK plug standard is not stated, and a scraper appears only in a bullet. It is a price floor until you know which temperature the two gears actually produce. It weighs 830 g.

Pros

  • Lowest price in this set at £13.99
  • Four nozzles on the included line
  • 220 V and 1300 W stated in the listing
  • 4.2 from 95 reviews

Cons

  • No degree steps are stated
  • One review says it stopped during light use
  • Another review says the heat was lower than needed
  • UK plug standard is not stated

WORKPRO 7.2 V

Rank 10

WORKPRO 7.2 V

∼£30

Our view

The WORKPRO at £29.99 is a 7.2 V cordless craft gun at 320 g, with a lithium-ion battery and a reflector nozzle in the box. The listing claims cool, 150°C and 360°C modes, and runtimes of up to 16 hours on cool, 35 minutes at 150°C and 20 minutes at 360°C. It is 3.7 from 18 reviews. One reviewer measured about 110°C rather than 300°C, and others say it is too cool for thick shrink wrap, embossing powder or drying paper. It cannot be used while charging, and the reviews in the file do not describe paint stripping. Keep it for light craft only after you have checked the heat yourself, and do not buy it as a stand-in for a 2000 W corded gun.

Pros

  • Cordless, 320 g, with the battery included
  • Reflector nozzle in the box
  • Claimed modes of 150°C and 360°C, plus a cool setting
  • Temperature protection claimed

Cons

  • 3.7 from 18 reviews
  • A reviewer measured about 110°C rather than the claimed heat
  • Reviews say it is too cool for thick shrink wrap
  • Cannot be used while charging

Best for: Light craft where a cord is in the way, and only if the real heat is enough for thin material.

Less suitable: Paint stripping, thick heat-shrink, or any job that needs a stated corded wattage.

URTOOLS dual temperature

Rank 11

URTOOLS dual temperature

∼£16

Our view

The URTOOLS listing at £15.99 states 300°C and 600°C, and it is 3.5 from 67 reviews. The title says 1600 W, the wattage field says 1300 watt-hours, the model field says JF-2000A, and the voltage line says 220 V. Bullets name four nozzles while the included line says one air nozzle. More than one UK review says the gun stopped after seconds or about 15 minutes, and one fuse change did not restore it. A video was also said to show a digital display the gun does not have. The 300°C step would be useful if the gun kept running. In this file the repeated early failures are the story, not the £15.99 price, and it weighs 790 g.

Pros

  • Stated steps of 300°C and 600°C
  • Overload cut-out claimed
  • Shelf price £15.99

Cons

  • 3.5 from 67 reviews, with guns described as stopping within minutes
  • Title says 1600 W and the wattage field says 1300 Wh
  • 220 V, and a BS 1363 plug is not named
  • Nozzle count disagrees between the bullets and the included line

Best for: Almost no one in this set, unless you are comparing a low star line on purpose.

Less suitable: You want a gun that UK reviews describe as surviving the first session.

Common questions

Why are two power figures shown?

The title says 1600 W. The technical wattage field says 1300 watt-hours. The model field says JF-2000A. All three are on the listing.

What voltage is stated?

220 V. A BS 1363 plug is not named. One reviewer changed a fuse after the gun died.

What failed in reviews?

More than one UK review says the gun stopped after seconds or about 15 minutes. One fuse change did not restore it. A video was also said to show a digital display the gun does not have.

How we compared

For this comparison we read eleven hot air gun listings on amazon.co.uk, dated 19 October 2026, and checked the temperature, voltage and plug points against public UK sources. Editorial scores use those listing figures and review counts. We did not run a lab test. A stated temperature is not a measured nozzle temperature, and a 220 V line is not scored as a BS 1363 plug.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

Star points use the amazon.co.uk rating, floored and capped, plus a volume bonus that rises with the review count. Under 10 reviews deducts points. Two reviews and no review text deduct further. A 5.0 from two reviews is not treated as a large file.

2

Listing fit

45%

A stated dial or low band that starts at 50°C scores higher than two fixed steps, and both steps above 500°C score nothing on temperature. A stated 230 V scores above a 220 V line or a blank voltage. Nozzles, a scraper, a stated cable length, a claimed overload cut-out and a claimed stand add points. Contradictions on settings, power units, included parts or weight deduct points.

3

Review outcome

15%

A large file that names a usable job and a limit, such as a short lead, missing nozzles, a fuse trip or a gun that stops, scores higher than a small file or a file with no review text. Early failures pull the score down.

4

Value

10%

Shelf price in GBP is set against a gun whose steps you can read. A low price does not score when reviews describe the gun stopping, or when two stars have no review text. Best value is the lowest price among two-step guns with a stated low of 400°C or below and at least 1,000 reviews.

Hot air gun buying guide

Choose the temperature you can actually set, then the voltage line, then the nozzles for the job. Wattage is the last figure to read. The shelf prices below are amazon.co.uk figures from 19 October 2026. They are not a lab test, and a stated degree is not a measured nozzle temperature.

What is a hot air gun?

A hot air gun, usually searched as a heat gun, blows heated air so you can strip paint, shrink tubing, soften adhesive or shape plastic. Two-setting corded guns offer a fixed low and a fixed high. Variable corded guns add a dial and two airflow steps. This set also includes one cordless craft gun, the 7.2 V WORKPRO with claimed 150°C and 360°C modes, and one plastic-welding kit, the Beyondlife at about £194.99 with rod nozzles.

Best for

  • Home renovators stripping gloss who want a scraper and a setting under 500°C
  • Crafters shrinking tubing who need a genuine low setting and a concentrator

Not ideal for

  • Anyone treating a 5.0 from two reviews as a test result
  • Anyone planning to thaw a frozen pipe, or to work on lead paint above 500°C

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying on watts

A 2000 W title does not tell you the steps. The BLACK+DECKER is 1750 W at 570°C and 740°C. The SEEKONE HG886 is 2000 W at 400°C and 600°C. Read the degrees, then the watts.

  2. 2

    Reading adjustable as a dial

The JFTOOIS title says adjustable and two-gear button control, and no degree steps are stated. The AIUNAOM HG02 title says two settings and the bullets also say nine. Use the numbers you can find, and treat a clash as unresolved.

  3. 3

    Thawing a pipe

The Met Office rejects naked flames for a frozen or burst pipe. The Northern Ireland Housing Executive says never use a heat gun or blowtorch. A hairdryer or warm towels, slowly, is the public alternative. Call a professional for a burst pipe.

What to weigh up

Temperature control

High

Temperature control is the first filter, ahead of the wattage in the title. A dial you can keep under 500°C matters if the house may have pre-1980s paint. A two-step gun is simpler for modern gloss, but only if you can live with those two fixed outputs. Read the actual steps, not the word adjustable. The BLACK+DECKER KX1650-GB states 570°C and 740°C, so even the low step sits above the Health and Safety Executive lead-paint cap. The SEEKONE HG886 states 400°C and 600°C.

Supply, nozzles and cable

High

UK mains are 230 V. A domestic flex needs a BS 1363 plug and a BS 1362 fuse under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, regulation 35. In this set only the BLACK+DECKER and the COMTO 1800 W gun state 230 V. Several others state 220 V or nothing. A 220 V line is not proof of a UK plug, and a seller’s CE sentence is not a UK declaration of conformity. Match nozzles and a scraper to the job you actually have. Concentrators suit tubing. A wider nozzle and a scraper suit paint.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Home renovator

You are stripping gloss or putty and want a scraper plus a dial you can keep under 500°C. The SEEKONE SDL-2816 states 50–600°C, five nozzles, a scraper and a putty knife, at about £25.99. Voltage is not stated, and reviewers often call the 5.25 ft lead short.

Crafter shrinking tubing

You need a genuine low setting and concentrator nozzles, not a paint step on vinyl. The JOJOREC Hg2600 states step I at 50–300°C and step II at 50–600°C, at about £14.99. A bullet lists three nozzles and a scraper, while a specification line says the box is the heat gun only. Check the contents on arrival.

Plastic welding job

You need rod nozzles for vinyl flooring, tarpaulin, tank or bumper work. The Beyondlife BYHQ states nine levels from 30–650°C and includes a spare element, welding nozzles, a groover, rods and a roller, at about £194.99. It is 5.0 from 2 reviews with no review text. A £16 two-step gun is a poor match for that job.

Common questions about hot air guns

Which hot air gun is the top pick here?
The SEEKONE SDL-2816 is the top pick on this page. The listing states a 50–600°C dial, step I at 50–450°C and step II at 50–600°C, five nozzles including a glass-protection nozzle, a scraper and a putty knife. It is 4.6 from 5,678 amazon.co.uk reviews at about £25.99. Voltage is not stated, and reviewers often call the 5.25 ft lead short. The high step is the wrong setting where paint may contain lead.
How much does a hot air gun cost?
On these amazon.co.uk listings on 19 October 2026, the entry band is about £13.99 to £19.99. That includes the JFTOOIS at about £13.99, the JOJOREC at about £14.99, both AIUNAOM guns, the SEEKONE HG886 at about £16.99, the BLACK+DECKER at about £18 and the COMTO at about £19.99. The SEEKONE SDL-2816 is about £25.99. The cordless WORKPRO is about £29.99. The Beyondlife plastic welder is about £194.99. Those are shelf prices, and they can move.
What temperature applies if paint may contain lead?
The Health and Safety Executive tells employers to keep hot-air guns below 500°C where paint may contain lead, and not to use blow lamps or gas torches. That cap is a buying filter here, not a claim that any gun in this set is safe on lead paint. The BLACK+DECKER states 570°C and 740°C, so neither step can sit under 500°C. Call a professional for suspected lead paint over a large area.
Does a 220 V listing mean a UK plug?
No. UK mains are 230 V, and a domestic flex needs a BS 1363 plug and a BS 1362 fuse under the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, regulation 35. In this set only the BLACK+DECKER KX1650-GB and the COMTO 1800 W gun state 230 V. Several others state 220 V or leave voltage blank. A 220 V line is not proof of a UK plug, and a CE sentence is not a UK declaration of conformity.
Can I thaw a frozen pipe with a hot air gun?
No. The Met Office rejects naked flames for frozen or burst pipes and says to thaw slowly. The Northern Ireland Housing Executive says never use a heat gun or blowtorch on a frozen pipe. A hairdryer or warm towels, slowly, is the public alternative. Call a professional for a burst pipe. Do not treat first-use smoke from a new gun as harmless either. Listings call a short first run normal and still tell you to ventilate.
Is a 5.0 from two reviews a test result?
No. This is not a lab ranking. Stars, counts and bestseller ranks are the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 19 October 2026. The Beyondlife welder shows 5.0 from 2 reviews and the file has no review text. The URTOOLS listing is 3.5 from 67 reviews, and more than one UK review says the gun stopped after seconds or about 15 minutes. A large file that names a usable job and a limit is more useful than a tiny five-star sample.
Which hot air gun is the best value?
The SEEKONE HG886 is the best value. It is about £16.99, with stated steps of 400°C and 600°C, four nozzles, and 4.6 from 3,145 reviews. The value rule is the lowest price among two-step guns whose low setting is stated at 400°C or below and at least 1,000 reviews, without a settings contradiction or an early-failure theme. It states 220 V, does not name a BS 1363 plug, and does not include a scraper.
Is a hot air gun the same as a compressed air gun?
No. A hot air gun heats air with an element so you can strip paint, shrink tubing or soften adhesive. A compressed air gun blows unheated air from a compressor and does not stand in for that job. If you want a blow gun for dust or drying, use the compressed air gun comparison. For shrink tubing, look for a stated low setting and a concentrator nozzle.

Our verdict

On these amazon.co.uk listings the SEEKONE SDL-2816 is the top pick: a stated 50–600°C dial, five nozzles, a scraper and a putty knife, 4.6 from 5,678 reviews, at about £25.99. Voltage is not stated, and reviewers often call the 5.25 ft lead short. The SEEKONE HG886 is the best value at about £16.99, with fixed 400°C and 600°C, four nozzles and 4.6 from 3,145 reviews. That value rule picks the lowest price among two-step guns with a stated low of 400°C or below and at least 1,000 reviews. A 5.0 from two reviews is not the top pick. The BLACK+DECKER 4.7 is not a gun you can hold under 500°C.
