Petrol pressure washer buying guide

Updated: 21.10.2026

You have a drive, a yard, or a stretch of garden with no outdoor socket, and the amazon.co.uk titles are shouting 7.5 hp and 2200 PSI. A petrol pressure washer buying guide has to turn those numbers into a jet you can picture on concrete. Products Compared compared the eleven petrol listings in our [petrol pressure washer comparison](/hub/compressors/petrol-pressure-washer) on 19 October 2026, using the amazon.co.uk pages and the April 2024 SIP Tempest manual. We did not run a lab test. The useful order is working pressure, then litres per hour, then hose, pump, and whether the page agrees with itself.

Bar, PSI, and litres per hour

UK shops talk in bar. Many of these Amazon titles talk in PSI. A bar is about 14.5 PSI, and that conversion is only a unit change. Keep the figure the listing printed. The SIP Tempest CW-P 215AX listing and the April 2024 manual both put the maximum at 216 bar and the rated pressure at 180 bar, with 522 litres per hour. The 160AX is 162 bar maximum and 135 bar rated, with 402 litres per hour. ManoMano's guide treats about 150 bar and about 500 litres per hour as enough for regular use. That is a retailer guide, not a British Standard. The Generic listing at £312 claims 3500 PSI and leaves flow blank. On the SICHENSH page the title says 2200 PSI and the table says 2465 PSI. The best petrol pressure washer page is where those conflicts get a name.

Pump, hose, and nozzles

SIP states an axial pump: aluminium and fixed on the 160AX, brass-headed and adjustable on the 215AX. UK sellers describe aluminium axial pumps as the occasional-hours type, and triplex pumps as the serviceable type for long days. Those hour figures are their estimates, not a count on these ASINs. None of the unbranded listings names a triplex pump. DGJMuu's bullets claim an axial cam pump. Hoses here are mostly 7.5 m to 8 m. The usual tips are red 0°, yellow 15°, green 25°, white 40°, and a black soap nozzle. Leave the red pencil jet in the holder for cars, block paving, tarmac, and soft stone. Which fan to use on flags is on the petrol pressure washer for a patio page.

What the £169 listings are really offering

Six listings sit at £169.00 to £169.99, and Jerool is £169.50. The bullets often share 7 to 7.5 hp, five nozzles, 8-inch wheels, and a pull start. Poyujkyhr is the page whose title and table both say 2600 PSI, with 9 litres per minute. SICHENSH states 9 litres per minute and then prints two PSI figures. DGJMuu mixes 2200 PSI with 170–190 bar in the title and prints 2756 PSI in the table. A 5.0 from one review is a single comment. Warranty lines are missing across that cluster. Same sticker, thin evidence, and a pressure figure you should be able to find twice.

When to stop and choose electric

Petrol earns its place when the work is beyond a safe cable or there is no power at all. A car and a small patio beside a splashproof outdoor socket on an RCD are a corded washer's job. You then avoid a fuel can and a neighbour hearing 104 dB(A) or 112 dB(A) sound power, the figures on the two SIP listings. Those are sound-power numbers, not the level at a window. HSE allows up to 30 litres of petrol at home without notifying the Petroleum Enforcement Authority, in suitable containers, and not in a living room. GOV.UK says standard petrol is E10 and that garden equipment may not be compatible. If the socket is already there, the petrol vs electric pressure washer page is the decision.

Common questions

How many bar do I need for a driveway?
Toolstation's guide says about 130 bar is often enough to brighten patio slabs, and that machines toward 180 bar and above can mark cars and furniture. ManoMano treats about 150 bar and about 500 litres per hour as a regular-use band. In this set the SIP 160AX is rated at 135 bar and the 215AX at 180 bar. Those are listing and manual figures, not a test of your particular concrete.
Is flow more important than the PSI on the title?
Flow decides how fast dirt leaves the surface once you have enough pressure to shift it. A 3500 PSI title with no litres per hour, which is the Generic page at £312, is an unfinished specification. The 215AX states 522 litres per hour beside 180 bar rated. Read the flow line before you let the biggest PSI win.
What is the difference between maximum and rated pressure?
Maximum is the peak the listing quotes. Rated is the pressure the maker says the machine works at. On the 215AX both the Amazon bullets and the April 2024 SIP manual say 216 bar maximum and 180 bar rated. On the 160AX the pair is 162 bar maximum and 135 bar rated. Use the rated figure when you are judging a normal session.
Does 7.5 hp mean a better washer than 6.5 hp?
Horsepower on these titles is not a cleaning score. A 7.5 hp claim next to 2200 PSI and one review does not outrank the 6.5 hp SIP 160AX, which states 402 litres per hour, an axial pump, and a two-year warranty. Compare bar, flow, and the review file.
What should I ignore on a £169 listing?
Ignore a 5.0 from one review, a horsepower claim with no flow, and a pressure that the title and the table do not share. SICHENSH prints 2200 PSI and 2465 PSI on the same page. Also ignore a pump oil volume on Jerool that sits next to the 3.6 litre tank field. It is too close to that tank to treat as a real oil capacity.
