Tyre inflator or air compressor

Updated: 21.10.2026

You searched for an air compressor because a tyre is down, and amazon.co.uk mixed a £17.99 plug-in pump with a £149.95 tank. A tyre inflator or air compressor is the question before you buy litres you will never use. If the only job is tyres, a handheld pump and a separate gauge are enough. A nailer or a blow gun needs stored air. The eleven listings are on the [air compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/air-compressor). The six inflator files were used on 19 October 2026. A receiver stores a burst after the motor stops. The tanks here are 6, 8 or 24 litres. An inflator has no useful tank. It runs on the valve and stops at a preset. The Hyundai for one tyre is a 22 kg frame. The AstroAI for a staple gun is a 22 L/min pump with a 0.48 m hose. Car tyre pressure is the placard, often far below 150 psi. Auto Express tested Ring and RAC, not these ASINs. The job split is on the buying guide.

12 V plugs

The AstroAI CZK-3676, part ACAC3676YE-UK, is £17.99 and 4.5 from 11,896 reviews. It states 150 psi, 22 litres per minute, a 0.48 m hose, a 3 m cord, preset shut-off, and an over-voltage cut-off at or above 16 V. The bullets say to keep the engine running. The SYTUNG ST-5002 is £18.99 and 4.3 from 11,161 reviews, with a 100 psi maximum. The hose-length field repeats 11.5 feet, which the included list calls the power cord.

Cordless batteries

The Lamicall at £37.96 is 4.6 from 961 reviews, 20 litres per minute, a 30 cm hose and USB-C charging. The battery is tight if every tyre is done together. The ProChosen at £24.99 claims 20 to 30 minutes. Reviews describe one wheel, or a single tyre from 28 psi to 32 psi. The Motorenbau 5.0 from 18 is mostly a needle set, with two UK notes on the pump. URL B0GV3WRZXB carries ASIN B0HH8X218T, so the 2,849-review line is not this link. When you want a receiver, the default is on the best air compressor UK page.

When a tank is still the right tyre tool

Buy a tank when the tyre is only one job. The Hyundai 8 litre reviews cover tyres, dust and a staple gun, with a stated 13 A plug. The Draper covers a puncture, with the motor running and 97 dB on the listing. Check the first set with a separate gauge. One SYTUNG user saw 36 psi on the pump and about 31 to 32 psi at a petrol station.

Common questions

Can a tyre inflator run a nail gun?
No. The inflators here have no receiver. The AstroAI’s 22 L/min and the Lamicall’s 20 L/min are pump rates for a tyre valve, with hoses of 0.48 m and 30 cm, not a Euro workshop outlet. A nailer or a blow gun needs one of the corded tanks. A 150 psi maximum does not change that.
Should I choose 12 V or cordless?
Choose 12 V if the car has a lighter socket and you can run the engine, which the AstroAI bullets ask for and which Parkers recommends for this type of pump. The AstroAI at £17.99 has the larger, cleaner file. Choose cordless if there is no socket. The Lamicall at £37.96 is the file that matches the pump. The ProChosen is cheaper and the battery notes are weaker.
Will one charge do the whole car?
Do not plan on it. ProChosen reviews describe one wheel, or a single tyre from 28 psi to 32 psi, against a bullet of 20 to 30 minutes. Lamicall notes say the battery is limited if all the tyres are done together, and the 30 cm hose is short by the third tyre. Some owners do get more than one top-up. A full set on one charge is the claim that fails first.
Why does the pump disagree with the car or the petrol station?
Because these displays are not a calibration. One SYTUNG user saw 36 psi on the pump and about 31 to 32 psi at a petrol station afterwards. A review on the clashing Ipflin block did not match the car’s sensor. Auto Express found errors of about half a psi to 1 psi on other 12 V pumps, which is not a reading for these ASINs. Check with a separate gauge before you trust a preset.
Do I need the engine running?
For the AstroAI, the listing says yes. A 12 V socket on a weak battery is a poor supply, and the bullets state an over-voltage cut-off at or above 16 V. Parkers gives the same engine-on advice for plug-in inflators generally. A cordless pump does not use that socket, so the engine note does not apply to the Lamicall or the ProChosen.
Which listing’s stars should I ignore?
Ignore the Motorenbau 5.0 from 18, because most texts are a needle set and only two UK reviews describe the pump. Ignore the 4.4 from 2,849 on URL B0GV3WRZXB, because the product ASIN in that file is B0HH8X218T. The AstroAI’s 4.5 from 11,896 and the Lamicall’s 4.6 from 961 are the star lines that belong to the inflators on the page.
