Air blow gun buying guide

Updated: 21.10.2026

The hose is already on the garage floor, and the compressor is somewhere between a 6 litre pancake and a 50 litre upright. What you need from this air blow gun buying guide is a plug that matches the socket you own, then a nozzle your tank can feed. The [compressed air gun comparison](/hub/compressors/compressed-air-gun) is where the three kept listings sit, with GBP prices from the amazon.co.uk capture on 19 October 2026. This page stays on the criteria and does not name a winner. We did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase through our amazon.co.uk links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Thread first, then the plug

On a UK workshop hose the usual inlet is a 1/4 inch BSP thread. A 1/4 inch BSP male thread is about 13.2 mm across. Hosemaster's fittings notes put BSP at 55 degrees and NPT at 60 degrees, so an NPT plug can start in a BSP port and still weep. Standard coupling on a title is not a match. Look at the socket on your hose. A Parkside 24 litre tail, a PCL plug and a Euro coupler are three different sockets. If the gun port is female Rp 1/4, you still need the male plug that belongs to that socket. The best air blow gun page names which of the kept guns even claim a thread. A correct thread with the wrong profile still leaks.

PCL Standard and XF-Euro

A PCL dealer note separates two profiles that amazon titles often glue together. Standard plugs are the longer UK shape. XF-Euro is the European high-flow profile. An XF-Euro adaptor will not enter a UK Standard coupling. A Standard plug can sit loosely in an XF-Euro socket and then lose flow, which feels like a weak gun when the fault is the pair. British and German, or standard quick-connect, is not a named profile. The oumuik title says 1/4 inch BSP, while a technical line says 12 x 1.0 mm. The MEANLIN pack says a standard quick-connect and states no thread. If your hose is PCL Standard, buy a Standard plug. If it is Euro, buy Euro. Do not bridge them with tape. The how to use an air blow gun page assumes the plug has already locked before you open the regulator.

Nozzle and the air it drinks

Pick the nozzle for the job, then ask whether the tank can keep up. A short cone is enough for a bench top. About 100 mm of tube reaches into a hole or behind a bracket. The listings in this comparison sit in that 100 mm band, not on a long lance. HSE's MW1 sheet uses about 30 cm as a longer lance inside an enclosure, which is a different tool from a pistol in a blister pack. A vented tip matters if the end may be blocked, because a dead-ended jet is how air gets into skin. Buy a venturi only when the listing states the flow. None of the three kept captures states litres per minute. A UK review called the ABAC nozzle air-hungry. That is a complaint, not a figure you can copy onto the ASIN. The maximum bar on the box is a survival claim, not the 2.1 bar cleaning guide.

What the listing is allowed to claim

Title, material line and reviews have to agree before you trust the headline. The ABAC G-503 title says aluminium, a 10 cm nozzle, 3.8 mm and a maximum of 8 bar, at £7.37 with 4.5 from 373 ratings on the 19 October 2026 capture. The same capture's material line says rubber, and reviewers describe the body as plastic. You can buy it as a light pistol. You cannot buy it as a proven aluminium gun. The oumuik bullets claim an aluminium body and an extension, and UK reviews include a missing airline fitting. The MEANLIN ten-pack does not state pressure or thread. Entry pistols sit around £6 to £12. Price is not a certificate of the inlet. An OSHA badge does not name the plug family. If you have no compressor, the pistol is the wrong tool.

Checklist before you open Amazon

Five checks, in order, before you add a gun to the basket. You can name the socket on the hose you already own, PCL Standard or Euro. The thread is 1/4 inch BSP, or you have a written reason for a different thread, and it is not an NPT kit you plan to make fit. The nozzle is about 100 mm, or you have a stated reason for a short cone or a real lance. Litres per minute are printed, or you accept that they are not and you will not dry a car on a tiny tank. The title, the material line and a couple of reviews describe the same body, and if they clash you are buying the cheaper description, not the headline. If any line fails, stop. A £7 gun that needs a second fitting and a bigger compressor is no longer a £7 gun.

Common questions

Is 1/4 inch BSP the inlet I should expect in the UK?
Yes for most workshop blow guns sold onto a UK hose. Hosemaster treats an Rp 1/4 female BSP inlet as the usual port, and a 1/4 inch BSP male thread is about 13.2 mm across. A kit marked 1/4 inch NPT can start to screw in and still weep, because the thread angles differ. Read the socket on your hose before you trust a title that only says standard. Thread size and quick-release profile are two separate matches.
Do PCL Standard and Euro plugs interchange?
No. A PCL dealer note says an XF-Euro adaptor will not fit a UK Standard coupling, and a Standard plug can sit loosely in an XF-Euro socket and then leak flow. British and German on a listing is not the same statement as a named profile. If your hose is one family, buy that family. Tape is not a seal once the line is under pressure.
How long a nozzle do I need?
A short cone covers a bench. About 100 mm reaches a hole, which is the length band on the listings in this comparison. HSE's MW1 sheet uses about 30 cm when it describes a longer lance for blowing down inside an enclosure. Buy a vented tip if the end may be pressed flat against a surface. Buy a venturi only when the flow is printed on the page you are paying for.
Why do these guns not state litres per minute?
The three kept amazon.co.uk captures do not state air consumption. A UK review called the ABAC nozzle air-hungry, which is a complaint, not a measured flow you can quote as the gun's specification. A PCL BG5002 at Screwfix was listed at 270 litres per minute and £10.99 including VAT. That number belongs to that model. It does not transfer to the ABAC, the oumuik or the MEANLIN.
What if the title says aluminium and the reviews say plastic?
Believe the clash. On the ABAC capture the title says aluminium, the material line says rubber, and reviewers describe plastic. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, sections 9 and 11, is the route if the parcel does not match the description. It is not a reason to assume the headline won. Buy the gun for the body the reviews describe, or pick a listing where the title and the spec line agree.
