Einhell oil free or oil compressor

Updated: 21.10.2026

Oil-free is printed on most of these listings as if it meant quiet, clean and maintenance-free. In this amazon.co.uk set it means the pump is not the TC-AC 190/24/8. You choose that single oil pump, kept upright, or oil-free air you can lay on its side, and you still match free air and noise. The [Einhell compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/einhell-compressor) is the table. We did not spray a panel. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Only one oil-lubricated Einhell in this set

The oil model is the TC-AC 190/24/8, B01ARYJ9NC, at £129.95 with 4.1 from 251 reviews. It is 24 litres, 8 bar, 230 V and about 20 kg. The sound level is 97 dB, with no LpA or LWA label. A low-pressure spray gun was usable for one reviewer. A dual-action sander would not keep running. A continental plug was replaced with a 13 A plug, and the outlet was PCL against BSP fittings. The oil model’s air can carry oil from the pump. An oil-free pump does not add that mist. The oil-free receivers are the silent 24 litre at £169.93 and the 50 litre at £212.95. The £83 suitcase is oil-free and has no receiver. The cordless tanks are oil-free and body only. If the name carries OF, read oil-free. The oil 24 litre does not carry that mark.

Transport, noise and duty

You can lay an oil-free Einhell on its side. You should not do that with the TC-AC 190/24/8. The manual says store it upright and check the sight glass between MIN and MAX. The check itself is on the how to use page. Manual copies disagree on SAE 15W/40 versus SAE 5W/40, so this page will not prescribe a grade. Oil-free does not mean quiet. The suitcase and the oil model both show 97 dB. The 50 litre amazon line says 95 dB, while Einhell states 77 dB(A) LpA. The silent 24 litre names 57 dB LpA, and the service sheet also states 78 dB(A) LWA. The SILENZZO’s 14 dB line is not a measurement. The 50 litre’s maker page states 76 litres a minute at 7 bar, against 55 for the silent 24 litre. HSE’s 80 and 85 dB(A) values are workplace exposure, not the figure on the tank.

Paint and oil in the air

A finish is where the oil model becomes the wrong air, even when the pressure is enough. Sealey’s spray-gun guide says an oiler must stay out of the line because oil ruins paint. Pump oil in the air is the same problem. A low-pressure gun in one review is not a promise of a clean panel. Oil-free is not automatically a paint compressor. Fifty-five litres a minute at 7 bar on the silent model, and 76 on the 50 litre, are manufacturer figures. A hungry gun still outruns them. A UK review of the 5 litre cordless tank says a 4 Ah pack was not enough for a spray gun. Every receiver still needs the condensate out. On the oil model that water contains oil residues and should go to a collection point. An oil-free tank still collects water. You skip oil changes. You do not skip the cock.

Which to buy

Buy the oil 24 litre when you want that pump for intermittent tools, you will keep it upright, and you are not spraying a finish with the raw air. At £129.95 it is the cheaper 24 litre. Skip it if the machine lies in a boot, or if the air must not carry pump oil. Buy an oil-free receiver when the air should not carry pump oil. The silent 24 litre is the top pick on the best Einhell compressor page for a garage under a bedroom, at £169.93, if 8 bar is enough. The 50 litre is the oil-free buy for 10 bar if you accept the noise. The suitcase is oil-free and it is not a workshop compressor.

Common questions

Which Einhell models are oil-free?
The silent 24 litre, the 50 litre, the suitcase and the cordless tanks state oil-free. The only oil-lubricated listing is the TC-AC 190/24/8. If the name carries OF, that is Einhell’s oil-free mark. The oil 24 litre does not carry it.
When is the oil 24 litre the right buy?
When you want an oil-lubricated 24 litre at 8 bar, you will store it upright, and your tools can live with air that may carry oil. It is £129.95 and 4.1 from 251 reviews. A low-pressure gun was usable for one reviewer. A dual-action sander was not. A review describes a continental plug and a PCL outlet.
Can I lay an oil compressor on its side?
Not the TC-AC 190/24/8. The manual says store it upright. Oil-free models are the ones you can lay on their side, including the suitcase and the cordless tanks. A 17 kg SILENZZO is still heavy on its side.
Will oil-free air paint cleanly?
It will not carry pump oil the way the lubricated model can. It still needs enough free air at 7 bar, a regulator and filtration. Sealey’s guide says oil in the line ruins paint. The maker figures of 55 or 76 litres a minute at 7 bar will not run every gun.
Does oil-free mean quiet?
No. The suitcase is oil-free and reviewers call it very loud, at a stated 97 dB, because the motor runs continuously. The quiet listing here is the silent 24 litre, at 57 dB LpA in the bullet. Oil-free and quiet are separate choices.
Do I still drain an oil-free tank?
Yes. Water still condenses in the silent 24 litre, the 50 litre and the cordless tanks. Oil-free means you are not changing pump oil. Drain after use. Oily water is the specific warning on the oil model, and that water goes to a collection point.
