How to use an Einhell compressor

Updated: 21.10.2026

The listing never says what the first switch-on involves. You need to know whether this Einhell has a tank to drain, whether the one oil model needs oil in the window, and whether the plug is BS 1363 or a continental lead. This is how to use an Einhell compressor across the eleven amazon.co.uk models in our set, not a ranking. The [Einhell compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/einhell-compressor) is the table if you are still choosing. We did not run the machines. Before you switch on

The CE-CC and the PRESSITO models, including the hybrid, have no tank. You fit an 18 V Power X-Change pack, which is not in the box, or you use the hybrid’s 250 cm cable. You set a target and auto-stop ends the fill. A flat battery is a charging job, not a fault in the pump. The receivers are the two 24 litre models, the 50 litre upright, and the cordless tanks of 5, 6 and 8 litres. Set the regulator below the plate maximum. A car tyre is not an 8 bar job. The placard is. The suitcase has no reservoir, so the air stops when the motor stops. Only the TC-AC 190/24/8 takes oil in the pump. Stand it level and check the sight glass between MIN and MAX. Manual copies disagree on SAE 15W/40 versus SAE 5W/40. Do not pick a grade here, and do not add oil to an oil-free model. The why is on the oil-free or oil page. A review of the oil model describes a continental plug. If it does not fit and you are not competent to fit a fused plug, stop.

Pressure, auto-stop and the blow gun

On the CE-CC and the PRESSITO models you set bar, psi or kPa and you use auto-stop. Many cars sit roughly around 30 to 36 psi, and about 14.5 psi is 1 bar. That is scale, not a target. Read the placard, cold. The pump’s 11 bar ceiling is not the tyre. One UK review of the hybrid could not set 0.5 psi increments, so 26.5 psi may land on a neighbour. A blow gun on an 8 or 10 bar receiver is not for dusting yourself. HSE’s engineering FAQ says compressed air can inject air into the body and drive debris into an eye. Use the regulator. Do not point the gun at skin. The suitcase blows only while the motor runs. The 80 and 85 dB(A) action values are workplace exposure, not the number on the tank.

Draining condensate

Water sits in the receiver. Leave it and the tank corrodes from the inside. Einhell’s manual for the TC-AC 190/24/8 says drain condensate after each use. The same habit belongs on the silent 24 litre, the 50 litre and the cordless tanks. Switch off, reduce pressure as the manual describes, and keep your face off the outlet. On the oil model the manual says the condensate contains oil residues and should go to a collection point. Oily water is not for a storm drain. Do not tip it down the drain. If you cannot find the cock, use the manual for that part number. Do not open a random plug, and do not run a rusty receiver.

When you stop

Einhell’s oil-model manual says not to adjust or unseal the safety valve. HSE’s INDG261 says a protective device, once set, is not altered except by an authorised person. If the valve weeps or sticks, stop. A competent person repairs a valve and a receiver. A written scheme under the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 is a work duty, not a home tyre top-up. INDG178’s example is 250 bar-litres or more. Eight times 24 is 192. Ten times 50 is 500, if the 50 litre is work equipment. A product page is not the scheme. Stop if the plug is wrong and you cannot change it safely, or if the motor will not start. A single dead-motor review is not a failure rate. If you bought the wrong family, the buying guide is the way back.

Common questions

What do I do before I switch it on?
Inflators need an 18 V pack or, on the hybrid, the cable. The oil 24 litre needs the sight glass between MIN and MAX, upright. Oil-free models do not get oil. Check the plug fits a UK socket, and set a tyre from the placard.
How do I drain the tank?
After use, on every model with a receiver, machine off and pressure reduced as the manual describes. The oil-model manual says after each use. Oily water from that 24 litre goes to a collection point, not a storm drain. The CE-CC and the PRESSITO models have no tank to drain.
Can I adjust the safety valve?
No. The oil-model manual says not to adjust or unseal it, and HSE workplace guidance says a set protective device is altered only by an authorised person. If it sticks or weeps, stop and use a competent repairer.
The plug does not fit a UK socket. What now?
A review of the 24 litre oil model describes a continental plug. Do not improvise wiring if you are not competent to fit a BS 1363 plug. Use an electrician. A travel converter is not a reason to overload the lead.
How do I set tyre pressure on the cordless models?
Use the placard, cold, in the unit it prints. The displays can show bar, psi or kPa. About 14.5 psi is 1 bar. Use auto-stop, and check a doubted gauge against one you trust. Do not set 11 bar in a car tyre. That is the inflator’s ceiling.
Does a home compressor need a written scheme?
Not because you are topping up tyres at home. The scheme is a duty on qualifying work equipment. Eight bar times 24 litres is 192 bar-litres, under HSE’s 250 example. Ten bar times 50 litres is 500, and that matters if the 50 litre is used at work.
