How to use a Kränzle pressure washer

Updated: 21.10.2026

The first time you connect a Kränzle to a British outside tap, the risk is not a lack of bar. It is a tap that cannot feed the pump, or a fitting that lets air in, so the pump runs thirsty. This is how to use a Kränzle pressure washer on a normal house supply: prove the water, fit the right inlet, then use the trigger and pack the machine away dry. The [Kränzle pressure washer comparison](/hub/compressors/kraenzle-pressure-washer) is where the models and prices sit. Cable size and the 13 A fuse are on the [13 A supply guide](/hub/compressors/kraenzle-pressure-washer/sub/kraenzle-pressure-washer-13-amp-supply). The steps come from Kränzle’s UK water notes and the professional manual.

Check the water before you start the motor

Kränzle UK asks for a one-minute test before you rely on the tap. Fill a bucket from the same hose and the same tap you will use, with the inlet hose fully unwound. The tap should deliver at least the machine’s own output, and about 10 per cent more. A K 1050 is 7.5 litres a minute, so you want roughly 8 litres in that minute. An HD 10/122 class machine is about 10 litres a minute, so the bucket needs to show something over 10 litres. Low inlet flow is how these pumps cavitate. Stop if the pump has been running dry. The professional manual puts the limit at 60 seconds. If you hear a harsh, rattling note and no steady jet, release the trigger, switch off, and find the restriction. The buying guide is where you match that litre figure to a model.

Tap, cap and liner

On a mains outside tap, use the inlet fitting the machine expects for pressurised water, and take off any auto-shut-off connector that only opens when it sees pressure from the other side. Kränzle’s water note warns that those fittings, and a push-fit that needs pressure to seal, can leak air. Unwind the supply hose so the bore is round, and keep the run as short as the garden allows. If you need more reach, lengthen the high-pressure hose rather than add a long thin lead.

A water butt and backflow

A water butt is a different fitting. Suction wants the cap and liner Kränzle specifies, so the pump can pull without sucking air past a loose garden connector. Kränzle UK states 1.5 m of suction for the HD 7/122 family. That figure is not a K 1050 specification. If the butt outlet sits deeper than the model sheet allows, use a different water source. In England and Wales the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 cover the connection. Scotland and Northern Ireland follow the same hose-tap rule. WaterSafe’s household advice is a double check valve on an ordinary garden hose, and a hose end that is not left in a bucket, a pond, or a butt of dirty water. A double check valve is the starting point for a house. A farm tank or a supply you cannot class as a normal garden tap is a job for the water company or a WaterSafe plumber.

Trigger, Total Stop, and packing away

Bleed the air before you commit to a surface. With the water on and the motor still off, squeeze the trigger until a steady stream replaces the spit and the bubbles. Then start the motor. Point the lance at the work. Total Stop, on the models whose title says so, cuts the motor when you let go of the trigger instead of circulating against a closed gun. In this set that wording is on the K10/122 TS and the K7/122 TS titles. If your model has no Total Stop, releasing the trigger does not mean the motor has stopped. Switch off at the machine when you walk away. Switch off, pull the trigger to dump the pressure in the lance, then close the tap. Disconnect the inlet, drain the hoses, and leave the machine where it can dry. If the pump was noisy, the jet was uneven, or you ran it dry, stop and get a service agent.

Common questions

Which inlet fitting do I use on a tap, and which on a butt?
On a tap, use the pressurised inlet and avoid an auto-shut-off connector that can admit air. On a butt, use the cap and liner made for suction. A garden push-fit that only seals when it is pressurised will leak air on a suction line, and the pump will cavitate even when the butt is full.
Can every Kränzle suck from a water butt?
Kränzle UK publishes 1.5 m of suction for the HD 7/122 family. That height is not a K 1050 specification, and it is not stated on every compact listing in this set. If the model sheet does not give a suction height, feed the machine from a tap that passes the bucket test.
Can I leave the hose in a bucket?
A hose end left under water can draw that water back toward the mains if the pressure drops. WaterSafe’s household advice is a double check valve and a hose that stays out of buckets, ponds, and butts. A farm or an unknown fluid is a job for the water company or a WaterSafe plumber.
What must I do before I pull the trigger on the work?
Open the tap, unwind the inlet hose, and squeeze the trigger with the motor off until the stream is steady. Then start the motor. If the bucket test failed, or the jet still spits, stop. The dry-run limit in the professional manual is 60 seconds.
When is a noisy pump a reason to stop and call someone?
Stop when the noise is a rattle with no steady jet, when you have already run the pump dry, or when an RCD trips and will not reset after you unplug. Cable faults and a plug that is not a UK plug belong with an electrician.
