Metabo cordless compressor

Updated: 21.10.2026

You want a Metabo cordless compressor you can carry, perhaps because an 18 V pack is already on the shelf, and amazon.co.uk offers two cordless machines under similar titles. The AK 18 Multi is a hose inflator. The Power 160-5 is a small tank with a quick coupling. Both omit the battery and the charger. Only one will take a blow gun. Mains plugs and the 50 litre model stay on the [Metabo air compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/metabo-air-compressor). Prices in this scrape, 19 October 2026, are £89.99 and £170.03. The Products Compared editorial team did not measure runtime.

Two cordless tools, not one range

The AK 18 Multi, model 600794850, weighs 2.6 kg and is listed at 11 bar and 16 litres per minute. The bullets cover tyres, mattresses and pool toys. Metabo's UK page describes the same inflator, supplied without a battery, with a 12 V cable. The Amazon table then prints a 10 litre tank and 1,800 W. The bullets never describe a receiver. Leave that table tank and that wattage out of the basket. The Power 160-5 18 LTX BL OF, model 601521850, is the tank. The title and Metabo's UK page say 5 litres, 8 bar, oil-free, and 8.7 kg without a pack. Metabo states 60 litres per minute effective delivery and 69.4 dB(A) as sound pressure, not sound power. The same Amazon table says 18 litres and 120 litres per minute. That 18 litre cell is a conflict on one listing, not a second model. Shop with 5 litres unless the plate in your hand says otherwise. Neither price includes an 18 V pack. The Amazon AK 18 row does not name a battery platform, so this page will not stamp a CAS claim onto it. Metabo's own page describes the Power 160-5 as CAS 18 V.

Battery, cable, and what you can run

The AK 18's box is a 12 V car cable and a volume hose with two adapters. You can run it from the car socket, or from an 18 V pack if one fits. Sixteen litres per minute will seat a car tyre. It will not run a nailer or a blow gun. There is no workshop coupling in the included-components line. A maximum of 11 bar still describes a valve inflator. The Power 160-5's box list is a universal quick-action coupling. The profile is not named, so you check it against the hose you own. A brad nailer in short bursts is a maybe. A spray gun is the job to refuse. A later look at the AK 18 showed £117.04, against this scrape of £89.99 and 4.5 from 40. Use the scrape. The Power 160-5 scrape is £170.03 and 4.4 from 79.

What reviewers found

Power 160-5 comments in the scrape come from Germany, Italy, Belgium, Sweden and Spain. Owners fill car and motorcycle tyres and dislike the tank on a blow gun. One Belgian review says the battery falls off the socket. A one-line defective note is not a rate. AK 18 comments are from Belgium and Germany. They praise fast car tyres and the 12 V socket. One unit was returned after running about 3 to 4 units past the set value, and mattress connectors did not fit. That is not a rate out of 40 ratings. The AK 18 listing prints 87 dB without a method. If you employ people, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations are the employer's rules.

Which one to add to the basket

Add the AK 18 for tyres or inflatables if a pack fits or you will use the 12 V cable. Skip it for a nailer or a blow gun. Add the Power 160-5 if you need that outlet, you accept a 5 litre receiver, and the battery is already paid for. Skip it when £170.03 was being treated as the whole price, and skip it for spraying. With no Metabo battery yet, read the oil conflict on the buying guide before you choose a mains receiver. The best-of page puts one line on each job. The tank drain is on the how to use page.

Common questions

Does the Power 160-5 come with a battery?
No. The included-components line lists a universal quick-action coupling, and UK dealers title 601521850 body only. The £170.03 scrape is the compressor, not a kit. A new pack and charger belong in the comparison with a mains receiver.
Does the AK 18 work from the car socket?
Yes, with the 12 V cable the listing puts in the box. Reviews describe cigarette-lighter use as well as an 18 V pack. The battery and the charger are excluded either way, and the flow is still 16 litres per minute.
Can the AK 18 run a nailer?
It is the wrong machine for a nailer. The bullets give 16 litres per minute, with no receiver and no workshop coupling in the box. The Power 160-5 is the cordless listing with a tank, and that tank is 5 litres on the title.
Is the tank 5 litres or 18 litres?
On the Power 160-5, the title and Metabo's UK page say 5 litres. The Amazon table says 18 litres. Use 5 litres unless the plate on your machine says otherwise. The AK 18 table says 10 litres, and the bullets do not mention a tank.
How big a battery do reviewers use?
Some Power 160-5 reviewers describe a 4 Ah pack as about five fills and prefer 8 Ah. That is not a Metabo chart, and the reviews are not marked United Kingdom. The AK 18 can avoid the question with the 12 V cable.
Will the preset stop overshoot?
The listing says it stops at the pressure you set. One review says a unit continued about 3 to 4 units past that value and was returned. If the overshoot repeats, treat that unit as faulty.
