Portable sandblaster buying guide

Updated: 21.10.2026

You already own a compressor, and the amazon.co.uk titles in front of you lead with 90 PSI, 120 PSI, or 150 PSI. That figure is not the pressure at the nozzle, and it is not proof a gun will cut rust on a bracket this afternoon. This portable sandblaster buying guide is the order of decisions: the job, the air you can keep supplying, the feed, the thread, then the media. It does not name a winner. Prices and review counts for the ten listings, from £10.99 to £339.99, sit on the [portable sandblaster comparison](/hub/compressors/portable-sandblaster). This is not a lab test.

What you are actually buying

A portable sandblaster in this set is one of four tools. A gravity gun carries a small pot. LIYOU and the InoKraft kits state about 900 ml, and the BGS 70056 states 510 ml. A suction kit leaves the media in a floor hopper. Estink and the Ejoyous hopper kit both print a 50 lb hopper, about 23 kg, and a hose of about 15 ft. The Bohaner listing is a cabinet spare. The AUTOOL HTS558, at £339.99, is a walnut machine for inlet valves. The feed changes the afternoon more than the PSI on the title. A 900 ml pot is a spot tool you refill often. A 50 lb hopper looks as if it will strip more, and the UK reviews on those two kits are thin or unhappy. How the feeds behave when you tip the gun, and why a hopper listing is not a pressure pot, is the gravity or suction sandblaster page.

Air before the pressure in the title

Match the gun to the air you can hold, not to the highest PSI a seller can print. CoolBlast's buyer's guide is an indicative chart, not a test of these ASINs. Near 100 PSI it puts a 3.2 mm nozzle at about 22 CFM and a 4.8 mm nozzle at about 49 CFM. The BGS 70056 states 169 l/min at 5 mm and 6.2 bar. Fockety's 150 PSI, Estink's 90 PSI, and the Ejoyous hopper's 120 PSI live in the title. InoKraft states 60–120 PSI on both kits and does not state CFM. A claim of up to 287 m/s is a speed, not the volume your tank has to replace. LIYOU states a 1/4 inch NPT inlet. BGS states 6.3 mm and does not say BSP or NPT. InoKraft supplies a quick connector, and UK reviews include connectors that would not tighten. Euro and British coupler noses differ.

Hopper size and water in the line

Hopper volume is a refill clock, not a cutting score. A 50 lb hopper removes the frequent refill. It does not remove the need for dry media. At £49.99 the premium kit adds an oil-water separator and an extension nozzle. The basic kit at £42.99 does not. If a separator is already on the compressor, you are not buying that part twice. If the airline is wet, oxide clumps. Drain the receiver before you blame the nozzle. The printed bores are 5 mm on LIYOU and the BGS gun, ceramic on InoKraft, and 8 mm boron carbide on the Bohaner spare.

The media you tip in

The last decision is the bag. COSHH 2002 Schedule 2 prohibits sand or another substance containing free silica as an abrasive for blasting articles. That duty sits on employers and the self-employed at work. A private householder is not automatically a dutyholder. HSE sheet CN7 says not to use sand, treats silica-free as under 1 percent silica, and expects an air-fed helmet at APF 40 for open blasting at work, with nearby respiratory protection at APF 20. Goggles in an InoKraft box cover the eyes. They are not that helmet. The BGS box includes 2 kg of brown aluminium oxide at 0.21–0.35 mm, a stated trial quantity, not a licence to finish a wing. A thin wing is neither of those buys. That limit is on the sandblaster for rust page.

Common questions

Do I buy the gun or the compressor first?
Size the gun to the compressor you already have, unless you are buying both today. Read any free-air figure on the compressor, then any air-use line on the gun. LIYOU's 8.8–10.6 CFM and the BGS figure of 169 l/min are seller claims, not a measurement at your outlet.
Is 90 PSI on the title enough?
Ninety PSI on a title is a pressure claim, not the pressure at a 5 mm nozzle. CoolBlast's chart, near 100 PSI, still asks for more airflow as the bore grows, and it is not a test of these guns. Estink prints 90 PSI and no CFM.
How long does a 900 ml hopper last?
On the InoKraft kits, UK reviews put a full hopper at a few minutes, and one basic-kit review says about 3–4 minutes. The BGS 510 ml pot is smaller, and reviews describe it emptying in seconds when the gun points down. A 50 lb hopper is a different feed, not a longer pot.
Gravity pot or a 50 lb hopper?
Choose the pot when the part is small and you can keep the gun roughly level. Choose the hopper when the work is outside and you accept thin or unhappy UK reviews on the two hopper kits here. These listings do not describe a pressurised pot.
Can I use kiln-dried sand?
Do not tip kiln-dried sand or building sand into the gun. At work, COSHH 2002 Schedule 2 prohibits sand and other free-silica abrasives for blasting articles. At home you may not be the dutyholder, and the dust is still silica dust. Use a named blasting media and keep the bag sealed.
Where does the walnut machine sit?
The AUTOOL HTS558 is £339.99, with 2 kg of 1.0 mm walnut and five adapters, and the air pump is not included. Buy it for inlet ports with the valve shut, not because 4.4 from 111 reviews is the highest star line. Most of those texts are not UK reviews.
