Stanley compressor UK plug: 230 V is not a BS 1363

Updated: October 2026

You have a Stanley compressor that says 230 V, and the plug in your hand will not go into a UK socket. A Stanley compressor UK plug, in this set of amazon.co.uk listings, is not something you can read off the voltage. UK mains are 230 V at 50 Hz. The plug is BS 1363, the 13 A fused system, and only one of the six listings actually says UK Plug. Products Compared checked those listings on 15 October 2026, plus the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The models are on the [Stanley compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/stanley-compressor). A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

230 V is not a UK plug

A voltage field tells you the supply the seller claims the motor wants. It does not tell you the shape of the pins. BS 1363 is the British Standard for 13 A plugs, socket-outlets, and adaptors. A Euro plug, often a Schuko plug with two round pins, is what UK reviews describe when the lead will not seat. AgriEuro's shop page for a DN 200/10/5 lists a Schuko plug on that retailer's own card: 230 V on the label, a continental plug on the flex. The six listings here do not support a rule that every UK Stanley compressor arrives with a UK plug. The safe reading is the pins on the lead you were sent, or a bullet that names the plug, not the volts in the attribute table.

What UK reviews and the vertical bullet say

UK reviews of the DN200/10/5 Airboss report a Euro plug. UK reviews of the about £77.99 kit say a Euro adaptor was needed and was not in the description. The FatMax DST 101/8/6, the DN200/8/6 kit, and the D210-8-50 do not name a plug type. Do not invent a BS 1363 plug for them. The one bullet that says UK Plug is the vertical DST 150/8/50V, at about £268.52. The voltage attribute says 50 volts. Lineonline lists 230 V for part SXCMS1350VE. Check the rating plate and the pins, and keep the compressor unplugged until both agree. Tank size and noise belong on the Stanley air compressor buying guide.

Do not run it on a travel adaptor

The Airboss and the about £77.99 kit both print about 1,100 W. A travel adaptor is not a plan for a motor that runs until the tank fills, or, on the tankless kit, for as long as you hold the gun. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 puts a correctly fitted standard plug, or a non-UK plug that already has a compatible conversion and a BS 1362 fuse, on the supplier. That is not a finding about your particular order. Do not cut the Euro plug off. This page will not describe how. If you cannot replace the lead, stop and return the compressor. Once the plug is a UK plug, first-run steps are on how to use a Stanley compressor.

If the description never mentioned the plug

Section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says goods must match the description. A 230 V listing that never mentions a Euro plug, when the lead will not fit a UK socket, is the mismatch reviewers of the about £77.99 kit describe. Ask the seller, within the order's returns window, for a repair, a replacement, or a refund. Citizens Advice explains that a Trading Standards report does not itself get the money back. Which machine is worth buying once the plug is honest is on best Stanley compressor.

When to stop

If the pins are not BS 1363, and the box has no proper fused conversion, stop. Do not adapt about 1,100 W, and do not rewire the lead.

Common questions

Does 230 V mean the Stanley has a UK plug?
No. UK mains are 230 V, and the plug is BS 1363. A voltage attribute can be 230 V or 240 V while the flex carries a Euro plug. In this set, UK reviews of the Airboss and of the about £77.99 kit say exactly that. Read the pins. Do not read the volts as the plug.
Which listing in this set actually says UK Plug?
Only the vertical DST 150/8/50V bullet says UK Plug. The same listing's voltage attribute says 50 volts, so you still check the rating plate and the pins. The DST 101/8/6 included line says Power plug without a type. The Airboss and the about £77.99 kit do not state a UK plug, and UK reviews report a Euro plug.
What is a Euro or Schuko plug on a compressor lead?
It is a continental two-pin plug, and it will not seat in a BS 1363 socket. AgriEuro lists a Schuko plug on its own DN 200/10/5 page. UK reviews of the amazon.co.uk Airboss report a Euro plug, sometimes with an adaptor and sometimes without. Round pins are enough reason to stop and return it.
Can I run a 1,100 W compressor through a holiday adaptor?
Do not. The Airboss and the about £77.99 kit are about 1,100 W. A travel adaptor is a poor way to run that motor while it fills a tank or, on the tankless kit, while it runs continuously. Regulation 35 expects a correct plug from the supplier. That is not an invitation to add a holiday adaptor.
Should I cut the Euro plug off and fit a 13 A plug?
No. Do not cut the lead off. This page does not describe how to fit a plug. If you cannot replace the lead as a proper supplied part, stop and use the return. Rewiring is outside this fault, and it is not a workaround for a listing that sent the wrong pins.
What can I do if the listing did not mention the plug?
Ask the seller for a refund, a replacement, or a repair. Section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to match the description. A Euro plug that the page never mentioned, on a 230 V listing sold to a UK address, is the mismatch to describe.
Is the 50 volt field on the vertical the same problem as a Euro plug?
It is a different conflict. The vertical bullet says UK Plug and the voltage attribute says 50 volts, while a retailer row says 230 V. Check the plate and the pins. If the pins are round, return the machine rather than adapting it.
