How to use a PCP air compressor

Updated: October 2026

You have a 300 bar pump from this set, or you are about to buy one, and you need one attended fill of a PCP rifle. How to use a PCP air compressor, on these amazon.co.uk listings, is a short sequence: match the probe, read the stop the page actually prints, watch the gauge, switch off, bleed the hose, then let the pump cool. The [VEVOR air compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/vevor-air-compressor) is the model list. Products Compared set this out on 16 October 2026 from listings recorded on 15 October 2026. There is no lab timing. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Do not use a Hyundai receiver for this fill.

What you are filling

You are filling a PCP rifle, or a small paintball bottle, through a probe that matches that cylinder. You are not feeding a brad nailer, and you are not filling air to breathe. Seller notes often cap these pumps at about 1 litre. The GX CS2 bullet says not over 1 litre and not over 60 cubic inches. A 2 litre figure on another ASIN is a conflict, not permission. Where a listing states a connector it is often 8 mm. Do not invent a Foster fitting. If the probe does not match, stop. Which pump to own is the VEVOR air compressor buying guide.

Before you start

Read the stop mode on your ASIN, then look at the plug. The GX CS2 cannot set an auto-stop pressure. The SDKEHUI title says manual-stop and switch off at 30 MPa, which is 300 bar. The TXES061 does not put shut-off in the bullets, so you still watch the gauge. Close the bleed before you start, where you can see one. Do not disconnect a fitting that is still under pressure. If the table says 110 V and a bullet says 220 V, do not guess. Reject that listing on the VEVOR air compressor UK plug page. About 40 A on these pages is the car-battery draw, not a household circuit.

While it is running

Stay with the pump. Switch off when the gauge reaches the pressure you intended, and never above the rifle's fill pressure. The SDKEHUI's 30 MPa line is 300 bar, a ceiling, not the fill pressure printed on the rifle. On a stated auto-stop, keep the same watch. If your gauge and the rifle's gauge disagree, stop. One TUXING review describes the auto-stop as a needle you set on the gauge. A claimed shut-off is not a reason to leave the room. There is no single fill time in this set.

After it stops

Leave the hose connected until you have bled the pressure. Then disconnect. Hoses can come out wet. Oil-free means you do not add pump oil. It does not mean the air is dry. One GX review says water through the line damaged a PCP regulator, so moisture is a stop, not a wipe-down. The GX description says to cool that unit after 25 to 30 minutes of work. That note is for the GX only. On the TXET063 the fan is manual, and you shut it off after the compressor stops. Do not copy that step onto another model.

When you stop for good

Stop and do not switch the unit on again if the gauge blows off or the case smokes. One SDKEHUI review describes a gauge leaving the housing. Return that unit. Do not finish the fill. Do not breathe the air. A scuba word is not a BS EN 12021 test. A 1 litre cylinder at 300 bar is 300 bar litres. That figure alone does not create a written scheme for a private hobby fill. The type split is the PCP compressor or workshop compressor page.

Common questions

How do I fill a PCP rifle with one of these pumps?
Match an 8 mm probe where the listing states 8 mm, close the bleed, stay at the gauge, and switch off at the rifle's fill pressure or at the listing ceiling, whichever is lower. Bleed the hose before you disconnect it. Do not use this sequence on a Hyundai workshop tank.
What do I do if the pump does not state auto-stop?
You switch it off yourself. The GX cannot set an auto-stop pressure. The SDKEHUI title says switch off at 30 MPa, which is 300 bar, a ceiling rather than the pressure printed on the rifle. The TXES061 left shut-off out of the bullets, and one review says a claimed shut-off was not on the unit. Watch the gauge on all three.
When do I bleed the hose?
After the pump has stopped, and before you disconnect the fitting. The GX note says to bleed the valve before the next start. Do not pull a connector that is still holding pressure, and do not assume every ASIN has a bleed screw in the same place. Leave the hose connected until the pressure is gone.
Why is the hose wet?
These pumps can push moisture out with the air. Oil-free does not mean dry. A wet hose is a reason to stop and fit filtration the listing actually describes, not a reason to keep filling the rifle. One GX review links water in the line to a damaged PCP regulator.
Can I leave the pump while it fills?
No. Manual-stop listings will not stop themselves at your rifle's pressure. A stated auto-stop is still not a reason to leave the room, because reviews in this set include a missing shut-off and a needle you have to set. Stay until the pump is off and the hose is bled. If the gauges disagree, stop.
How long should one fill take?
This set has no single fill time you can copy from one listing onto another. Seller bullets disagree, and one timed review is quoted in psi rather than bar. Use the gauge on your pump, not a minute count taken from a different bottle. A GX cool-down note of 25 to 30 minutes is for that ASIN only.
When do I stop and not switch it on again?
Stop for good if the gauge blows off, the case smokes, or you can see exposed live parts. Do not try to finish the fill, and do not follow a repair from a forum. Breathing the air, or filling for other people as work, is also a stop. Those jobs are not what these listings show.
