Oil-free air compressor buying guide UK

Updated: October 2026

You are in a UK garage with a brad nailer, four tyres, and a 13 amp socket, and the amazon.co.uk cards do not agree. One Hyundai page puts 120 litres a minute in the bullet and 2 cubic centimetres a minute in the table, and the name you searched was WELDINGER. This oil-free air compressor buying guide UK sorts the choice by job, delivered air, tank size, noise, and plug. The [Weldinger air compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/weldinger-air-compressor) lines up the eleven prices. A qualifying purchase from our links can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Figures are amazon.co.uk claims as of 15 October 2026.

Start with the job, not the brand name

The basket is not a WELDINGER range. Four listings are oil-free workshop tanks: the Draper 02115, a HYCHIKA 24 litre, the Hyundai HY5508X, and the Hyundai HY7524X, from about £102.27 to about £149.95. Seven are TUXING and SDKEHUI PCP pumps, from about £125.99 to about £220.15, listed up to 300 bar. None of these ASINs carries the WELDINGER name. Workshop tanks here are listed around 100 to 118 psi, for a tyre, a brad nailer, and light spraying. The pumps are listed to 300 bar. An 8 bar tank stops far below a rifle fill. A 300 bar pump is the wrong airline for a nailer. If you are unsure which job you have, read the workshop tank versus PCP pump page.

Pressure and airflow before litres

Litres are stored air, not the speed of the pump. Sealey's guide suggests adding about 50 percent to combined tool airflow and guessing a tank as SCFM times six. Those are that seller's rules of thumb. When a card prints two figures, keep both. The Hyundai HY5508X bullet says 4 CFM and 120 litres a minute. Its table says 2 cubic centimetres a minute, which is not a credible nailer output. The HY7524X bullet says 150 litres a minute and the table says 2.65 CFM. A 6 litre Draper matches the size SGS Engineering uses for short bursts. A 24 litre tank stores more air and still will not reach 300 bar. The best quiet air compressor picks name the stronger UK review evidence.

Noise and the UK plug

Decibel figures here are claims, and we have not metered the machines. Both Hyundais state 60 dB. The HYCHIKA states 62 dB and 68 dB in different fields. PCP pumps state 78 or 80 dB. The Draper states 97 dB. Employer action values under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 are 80 dB(A) and 85 dB(A). They bind employers, not a home garage automatically. UK mains are 230 V. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a correct standard plug, or a non-UK plug with a compatible conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse. Only the Hyundai 8 litre bullet states a 13 A UK plug. The air compressor UK plug page goes through the clashes.

What to ignore on the listing

A 5.0 can be the weakest evidence on the page. SDKEHUI B0HDCGVGKV, at about £125.99, shows 5.0 from a single review. The HY7524X shows 4.6 from 1,072 reviews. The HYCHIKA's 4.5 from 27 reviews is a smaller version of the same problem. Read the count before you let the star choose. A hose counts only when the listing includes it. Reviews of the Hyundai 8 litre say no hose arrived. Oil-free means the pump is not filled with oil. Moisture still collects in the receiver, and you still drain it after use. On a PCP card, a small tank field is not a workshop receiver.

Match the job, then the listing

If the job is tyres or a brad nailer, stay with the four workshop tanks and judge delivered air, the noise claim, and whether a 13 A plug is stated. If the job is a rifle, leave those tanks for a pump listed to 300 bar. When the job, the airflow, the noise claim, and the plug agree, use the main comparison for the eleven prices side by side.

Common questions

What tank size do I need for tyres and a brad nailer?
A tyre and a short run of brads fit the Draper's 6 litre tank, because those jobs use air in bursts. SGS Engineering treats 6 litres as a size that only sprays briefly. A 24 litre tank such as the Hyundai HY7524X stores more air between bursts. Extra litres still stop at the compressor's cut-out.
Is a bigger tank a more powerful compressor?
A bigger tank stores more air. It does not raise cut-out pressure or delivery on its own. The HY7524X and the HYCHIKA are both 24 litres and still sit around 100 to 118 psi, while the Draper is 6 litres in that band. You notice fewer restarts on a run of nails. Extra volume does not settle the airflow when the bullet and the table disagree.
What does oil-free actually change?
Oil-free means the pump is not filled with oil. These four workshop tanks are sold that way. Sealey's guide points oil-free machines at occasional use, as that seller's advice, rather than all-day trade air. Moisture can still collect in the receiver, so you still drain it. The label does not make a Hyundai a WELDINGER, and an 8 bar tank still cannot fill a PCP rifle.
Is 60 dB quiet, and is 97 dB a problem in a garage?
Both Hyundais state 60 dB. The Draper 02115 states 97 dB. We have not measured either machine. For employers, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 set action values at 80 and 85 dB(A). A home garage is not automatically a workplace. A stated 97 dB is still loud beside the tank, so a quiet garage should look past the lowest price.
Can I use any of these if I searched for Weldinger?
This batch has no WELDINGER ASIN. Workshop machines are Draper, HYCHIKA, and Hyundai. Rifle pumps are TUXING and SDKEHUI. You buy the brand printed on the listing. If you need the FK machine associated with the WELDINGER name, it sits outside this price file, and a euro figure is not the UK charge.
