Air compressor UK plug: 230 V and BS 1363

Updated: October 2026

The pressure looks right, then the table says 110 V, the bullet says 220 V, and the garage socket is a UK 13 amp outlet on 230 V. An air compressor UK plug question is that yes or no, in England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland. This page owns the rule. The [Weldinger air compressor comparison](/hub/compressors/weldinger-air-compressor) still ranks the eleven machines by the job they do. We have not opened a plug or run a portable-appliance test.

What a UK compressor lead should be

UK mains are 230 V, and a domestic plug is BS 1363. Electrical Safety First tells you to look for that mark, a BS 1362 fuse of the right rating, and no taped joint. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a correctly fitted standard plug, or a non-UK plug with a compatible conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse. In this batch, the Hyundai HY5508X bullet states a standard 13 A UK plug, on the 8 litre tank at about £129.99. SDKEHUI B0FMQXKKMG puts UK plug in the title of a 300 bar pump at about £220.15, from 15 reviews. A title is a weaker place for that claim than a specification bullet. The Hyundai HY7524X does not state a UK plug. A correct lead still leaves the pressure unchanged: 8 bar does not become 300 bar. Tank size sits in the buying guide.

220 V, 110 V, and 12 V on these cards

A product marked only for a different mains voltage needs more than a plug change. UK nominal voltage is 230 V. A rating plate marked 220–240 V sits in the usual declared range. A card that only says 220 V still needs the plate on the unit. A table that says 110 V is a stop until the unit shows a 220 V or 230 V rating you can read. Two TUXING listings print the clash. B0C4Y9T3RD, a TXES062 card at about £179.90, has a table that says 110 V while the bullet also refers to 220 V. TXES061, B07QRG14B4, at about £152.99, has a table that says 110 V while the bullet also says 220 V and 12 V. The sample does not choose a voltage. A 12 V clamp lead does not correct a 110 V cell. Read the rating plate before you pay. The Draper 02115, the HYCHIKA 24 litre, and the Hyundai 24 litre leave the UK plug unstated.

When you do not plug it in

Leave it unplugged when reviews describe exposed live parts. That is the report on SDKEHUI B0DYSKSYL8, at about £132, and on TUXING B0D17FCGM4, at about £130.99. Do not open the case, and do not rewire from a review. If you can switch off at the wall without touching the compressor, do that and stop. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers goods that are not as described. A travel adaptor is the other usual mistake. Regulation 35 allows a compatible conversion plug with a BS 1362 fuse when domestic equipment for the UK arrives with a non-UK plug. An unfused holiday adaptor is not that plug. The fuses you usually see are 3 amp and 13 amp. The 13 amp wording on the HY5508X describes that model, not every TUXING.

A sound plug leaves the job unchanged

The Hyundai 8 litre remains a workshop tank around 100 to 118 psi. A 300 bar pump with a sound lead will not run a brad nailer. When the lead is safe, the sequence is on the how to use page. If you are still unsure of the job, use the workshop tank versus PCP pump page.

Common questions

What if the specification table says 110 V?
Treat a lone 110 V table as a stop. UK domestic mains are 230 V, and a plug swap does not turn a 110 V machine into a 230 V machine. On B0C4Y9T3RD and TXES061 B07QRG14B4 the table says 110 V while the bullet also says 220 V, and the TXES061 bullet mentions 12 V as well. Check the rating plate, or leave the listing. A sample of 737 reviews on the TXES061 does not choose between those voltages.
Which listing in this batch states a UK plug?
The Hyundai HY5508X bullet states a standard 13 A UK plug, on the 8 litre tank at about £129.99. SDKEHUI B0FMQXKKMG puts UK plug in the title of a pump at about £220.15 with 15 reviews, which is weaker than a specification line. The Draper, the HYCHIKA, and the Hyundai HY7524X do not state a UK plug. Confirm the live listing.
Is a travel adaptor enough?
A travel adaptor is not the permanent lead for a compressor in a UK garage. Electrical Safety First says so. Regulation 35 allows a compatible conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse when domestic equipment intended for the UK has a non-UK plug. That is a proper conversion plug, not an unfused holiday adaptor. If the listing never mentions a UK plug, assume you still have to see the lead.
What fuse is the usual domestic choice?
UK plugs use BS 1362 fuses, commonly 3 amp or 13 amp. Fit the fuse the manufacturer specifies. If the rating is missing, do not guess. The 13 amp figure on the Hyundai HY5508X describes the plug that listing states for the 8 litre model. It is not a fuse for every other compressor here, and it is not a reason to fit 13 amp to a lead rated for less.
What should I do if the power supply has exposed terminals?
Leave the compressor unused, and do not open it. Reviews of SDKEHUI B0DYSKSYL8 and TUXING B0D17FCGM4 describe exposed live parts. If you can switch off at the wall without touching the unit, do that and stop. Do not rewire from a review, and do not tape over bare conductors. Contact the seller. Goods that are not as described fall under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. A damaged lead needs a competent person.
