Saw accessories

Updated: October 2026Hub page

Saw accessories covers the blades and chains you fit to a saw you already own, plus a sharpener when the edge is the problem rather than the machine. The cards group circular saw discs, including common fixed diameters, with band saw blades, chainsaw chains, jigsaw blades, reciprocating saw blades, and the finer blades for a scroll saw or a fret saw.

Open the card that matches the saw and the material. A bore, a shank, a chain pitch and a tooth pattern are different checks, and those details stay on the comparison so this page still reads the same when a listing changes.

Earlier cards stay on this page: 125mm wood cutting discs, 165x20 and 250mm blades, aluminium blades, guide rails, mitre boxes, reciprocating saws, Stihl petrol chainsaw files, and tachometers.

Saw accessories guides

These guides cover the UK alert on toothed blades for angle grinders, matching bore and diameter before you order a disc, and when a long sheet cut needs a guide rail instead of a freehand pass. The new comparisons sit on the cards above: circular saw blades, chains, jigsaw blades and sharpeners.

Common questions about saw accessories

What does this hub cover?
Saw accessories on this hub are the blades, chains and sharpeners for saws you already own in the UK. The cards split circular saw blades, including common fixed diameters, from band saw blades, chainsaw chains, jigsaw blades, reciprocating saw blades, scroll saw blades, fret saw blades and saw blade sharpeners. Each card is one product type. Open it for the stored amazon.co.uk listings. No laboratory cutting test was run. The page also keeps the earlier cards for 125mm wood cutting discs, 165x20 and 250mm blades, aluminium blades, guide rails, mitre boxes, reciprocating saws, Stihl petrol chainsaw files, and tachometers. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
How do you choose a circular saw blade?
Match the saw before you compare teeth. The diameter is the size the machine is built for, the bore has to match the spindle, and a reducing ring only reduces a larger hole. The speed marked on the blade must be at least the saw's speed. Wood and metal are separate blades. Where the saw has a riving knife, that knife must be thicker than the plate and thinner than the kerf. Common fixed diameters have their own cards, because a near miss is the wrong disc.
How do jigsaw blades for wood and metal differ?
A jigsaw blade has to match the clamp before it matches the material. Most current saws take a T-shank. A U-shank needs the older clamp. Wood blades and metal blades are different steels and different pitches, so a coarse wood blade is the wrong tooth in sheet metal, and a fine metal blade is a slow way through thick timber. Reverse-tooth blades are for a cleaner top face in wood. The general card, the wood card and the metal card are separate comparisons.
How do you match a chainsaw chain?
Read the stamp on the bar, not the star rating. Pitch, gauge and the number of drive links have to match that bar. A chain that is one pitch out will not seat. Semi-chisel and full-chisel cutters are different tooth shapes, and a low-kickback chain reduces kickback rather than removing it. The chainsaw chain comparison is the card for that match. It is not a comparison of the saws themselves.
What is the difference between a band saw, scroll saw and fret saw blade?
A band saw blade is a loop. You match its length, width and teeth per inch to that machine, and wood and metal loops are different families. A scroll saw blade is a short blade held at both ends, and it is either pin-end or plain-end. A fret saw blade is the thin blade in a hand frame, and it is also pinned or plain. Those three cards are not interchangeable. Teeth per inch still matters, but only after the mount fits.
When do you need a masonry reciprocating saw blade?
A reciprocating saw blade, often called a sabre blade, is chosen by steel, teeth per inch and length. High-carbon steel and bi-metal are different families, and a pruning cut from the ground is a different job from demolition. Masonry is a separate card: those blades are carbide for brick and aircrete, not a wood blade pushed into a wall. A wood or metal pack does not become a masonry blade because the shank fits the saw.
When is a saw blade sharpener the right card?
Use the sharpener card when you already have a blade and the question is whether a hand file or a bench tool can restore it. Match the tool to the blade family first. A file for a hand saw is not a machine for a tungsten-carbide-tipped circular saw blade, and many tipped blades are a job for a sharpening service rather than a disc at home. If the saw needs a new disc, chain or jigsaw pack, open that blade card instead.
Where should you start?
Start with the saw you own and the material you are cutting. A circular saw or table saw needs a disc of the right diameter and bore. A chainsaw needs the pitch, gauge and drive links from the bar. A jigsaw needs the shank, then a wood blade or a metal blade. A band saw, scroll saw or fret saw needs the mount that frame accepts.
