How to choose a 160mm 20mm circular saw blade that fits

Updated: 22 October 2026

The spare is blunt and the next amazon.co.uk result says 160 mm and 20 mm. A 160mm 20mm circular saw blade only earns the order when the plate, the bore, the kerf and the tooth count match the saw and the cut. The listings kept here sit on the [160x20 saw blade comparison](/hub/saw-accessories/160x20-saw-blade). A qualifying amazon.co.uk purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Confirm 160 mm and 20 mm

Diameter and bore come first. Read the title and the specification together. If the manual states 160 mm, order 160 mm. The bore on these plunge and track saws is 20 mm, including Festool TS 55-pattern machines and the Mafell MS 55 and Metabo KS 55 FS named on the Trend listings. A 16 mm reducing ring is an adapter. Fit it only when the arbor is 16 mm. On a 20 mm arbor it stays in the box. The BATIOPV three-pack title says 160 mm by 20 mm with a 16 mm ring, and a bullet says a 25 mm bore. Those cannot both be the hole. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 11, goods must match the description.

Match the kerf to the saw

Kerf is the width of the slot the teeth cut. Where the saw has a riving knife, the knife has to sit in that slot. HSE’s circular saw bench guidance says the knife must be within 8 mm of the blade at bench height, thicker than the plate, and thinner than the kerf. The Festool year split is on the 160mm blade for a Festool TS 55. Older TS 55 blades on UK trade lists are often 2.2 mm. Festool’s HW 160×1.8×20 family, and Protrade’s PW12 note, is 1.8 mm for TS 55 F and TSC 55 K saws from 2021. The amazon.co.uk Festool listing here, model 578580, says 1.6 mm. Keep 1.6 mm and 1.8 mm as two figures. The Trend pack title says 2.2 mm and the thickness field says 1.6 mm. BAUBECK’s thickness field says 20 mm, which is the bore, not a kerf.

Pick the tooth count for the cut

Key Blades treats about 48-tooth alternate-top-bevel (ATB) as the track-saw default for plywood and MDF, and a low tooth count for ripping solid wood. That is a seller’s rule of thumb, not BS EN 847-1. HSE lists BS EN 847-1:2017 for circular saw blade safety requirements. Look for marking and a stated maximum speed. Forty-eight teeth is the common wood blade here. Eighty teeth is a finer crosscut. Twelve teeth, on the Festool PW12 title, is a rip pattern. The BATIOPV title offers 24, 40 and 60 while its tooth field says 60. None of the kept listings clearly say triple chip. Once the plate fits, the cut is on 48-tooth or rip blade.

Read the fields that disagree

After bore, kerf and teeth, read the lines that contradict the title. The Saxton listing at about £12.99, 4.5 from 623 reviews, says 60 teeth in the title and TCT16048T in the model. Both cannot be the blade you planned. The 80-tooth Saxton listing is a different ASIN, and there the title, the model and the tooth field agree on 80. OX at about £9.99, 3.8 from 16 reviews, is two 60-tooth wood blades in the title and two porcelain diamond blades in the components line. The page does not say which product will arrive. BAUBECK at about £12.99 claims aluminium and mild steel as well as wood. If the saw manual allows only a wood blade, that bullet is a reason to stop. A low price does not repair a contradiction. The named top pick and the best value are on best 160x20 saw blade.

Common questions

Is 160 mm the same as 165 mm?
No. A 160mm 20mm circular saw blade is 160 mm across. A line that says the blade suits saws which also accept 165 mm blades is talking about the machine. If the manual prints 160 mm, order 160 mm.
Do I need the 16 mm ring?
Only when the arbor is 16 mm. The ring reduces a 20 mm bore so the blade can sit on a smaller shaft. On a 20 mm plunge-saw arbor you leave the ring out. Saxton and S&R listings in this set include a ring. Trend’s 48-tooth listings do not mention one.
What if the title says 20 mm and a bullet says 25 mm?
Treat it as a stop. The BATIOPV pack in this set does that: 20 mm in the title, 25 mm in a bullet, plus rings for 20 mm and 16 mm. You cannot confirm the hole from that page. Section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects the goods to match the description.
Does more teeth always cut better?
No. About 48 teeth is a seller’s default for plywood and MDF on a track saw. Eighty teeth is a finer crosscut and a slower rip. Twelve teeth is for ripping solid wood. Coated melamine often wants a triple-chip grind, and none of these kept listings clearly state that grind.
How do I tell a 2.2 mm blade from a 1.8 mm blade?
Read the kerf the listing prints, then compare it with the saw’s knife or the year of the machine. Older TS 55-pattern blades are often 2.2 mm. Festool’s current 160×1.8×20 family is 1.8 mm for TS 55 F and TSC 55 K saws from 2021. The amazon Festool listing here prints 1.6 mm. Keep that figure separate from 1.8 mm.
What if the part number and the title disagree on tooth count?
Leave both numbers unresolved. The Saxton listing at about £12.99 says 60 teeth in the title and TCT16048T in the model, which points at 48. Buy a listing where the title, the model and the tooth field name one count.
Can I trust a multi-material bullet on a wood blade?
A bullet is a claim. BAUBECK’s bullets name aluminium and mild steel. OX’s components line names porcelain diamond blades on a wood title. If the saw manual allows only a wood blade, those lines are a reason to stop.
