24 tooth or 60 tooth circular saw blade for your cut

Updated: 22 October 2026

The 190 mm blade already fits the arbor, and the remaining choice is the face of the cut. A 24 tooth or 60 tooth circular saw blade is not a quality grade. Twenty-four teeth take a large chip and finish a stud quickly. Sixty or eighty teeth take a small chip and leave a door or a worktop you can look at. Forty sits between them. This page maps those counts onto the amazon.co.uk files read on 19 October 2026. The bands are a rule of thumb, not a clause in BS EN 847-1. Four counts, four jobs

BuildWiz, a UK tool note, puts 24 teeth on a fast rough cut, 40 on general work, and 60 to 80 on laminate worktops. Compel’s seller chart says 18 to 24 for ripping and 60 to 80 for a clean crosscut on a 185 to 250 mm blade. In this set the 24-tooth files are the two DeWalt listings, CRALY, the BAUBECK fast blade and SabreCut. The 40-tooth file is the Saxton TCT19040T. The 60-tooth claim sits on LSHUZIYU and, less cleanly, on BATIOPV. The 80-tooth files are the Saxton TCT19080T and the BAUBECK fine blade. On a handheld saw the good face goes down, because the teeth enter from the underside.

What the listings actually say

The Saxton 40-tooth and 80-tooth bullets say ATB, alternate top bevel. CRALY states 24 ATB teeth. The Elite bullets say an alternating tooth geometry on a 24-tooth nail-tough blade. BAUBECK does not name a grind, and it mentions a multi-material cut that includes a mild-steel line. That line is not a negative-hook metal specification. Do not read TCG, triple-chip grind, onto the Saxton blades. These files say ATB. Reviewers use the TCT19080T on doors, MDF and worktops. The BAUBECK 80-tooth reviews praise wood and aluminium trim, then say the edge dies on laminate flooring. The best 190x30 saw blade page names the Saxton 80-tooth as the fine-cut pick and the 40-tooth as the value pick, because those files state the grind.

When more teeth burn

A fine blade burns when each tooth rubs instead of cuts. Too many teeth in a deep rip, a hesitating feed, or a dull edge will leave a brown kerf. A review on the Saxton 40-tooth file calls the count too high for ripping. Reviewers put the 80-tooth file on doors and worktops. Push that disc through a stud and the kerf will heat. Twenty-four teeth will tear a veneer that 60 or 80 teeth would have held. BAUBECK’s 80-tooth reviews are the blunt edge on laminate flooring.

A mixed pack is not a decision

The BATIOPV pack is titled as three 190 mm blades at 24, 48 and 60 teeth, about £24.99, 4.3 from 207 reviews. The tooth field says 60 and the model is HCS90T. Use it only if each plate prints its own tooth count. The DeWalt pair, CRALY, BAUBECK’s fast blade and SabreCut are the 24-tooth options. The Saxton files say ATB. A kerf that will not take the knife belongs on the riving knife page.

Common questions

Will 80 teeth rip a stud faster?
No. Eighty teeth take a smaller chip, so a rip through a stud is slower and more likely to burn if you push. Use 24 teeth for framing timber you will cover. Keep 60 or 80 teeth for a door, a worktop or a sheet you will see. Reviewers use the Saxton 80-tooth file on doors and worktops, not as a stud blade.
Is 40 teeth enough for a door?
Often, for a painted door or a general trim, yes. The Saxton 40-tooth reviews include door trimming, and 40 is the general band on the rule of thumb. A clear-finished edge, or a veneer that chips, is where 60 or 80 teeth earn their place. Forty teeth are already too many for a fast rip, which one review on that file says.
Do I need TCG for a laminate worktop?
Not according to these listings. BuildWiz mentions a TCG grind for laminate worktops. The Saxton files say ATB, and CRALY says ATB. Do not invent a triple-chip grind the page does not claim. An 80-tooth ATB blade is what reviewers here put on worktops and MDF. Laminate flooring is harsher, and the BAUBECK 80-tooth reviews say that edge dies on it.
Why did the fine blade burn the flooring?
The usual causes are a feed that stops in the cut, a tooth count that is too fine for the depth, or an edge that has already gone. BAUBECK’s 80-tooth reviews describe the edge dying on laminate flooring. Heat is a sign to change the count or the feed. If the blade was fitted backwards, fix that before you blame the tooth count. A brown kerf on the first pass is a stop.
Does a multi-material 24-tooth blade replace a metal blade?
No. BAUBECK’s fast blade mentions several materials, including a mild-steel line, and it does not name the grind. Compel’s chart says mild steel needs a negative hook on a slow dry-cut saw. A 24-tooth wood blade on a circular saw at a woodworking speed is the wrong machine. Treat the bullet as timber unless the file prints hook, grind and maximum rpm.
Should I buy the mixed 24/48/60 pack instead of choosing?
Only if each disc is marked when the packet is opened. BATIOPV’s title says 24, 48 and 60 teeth, the tooth field says 60, and the model is HCS90T. That is three claims. An unmarked mixed pack will be used at random. Pick one count for the job in front of you.
