Chainsaw chain comparison 2026

The best chainsaw chains, compared.

Top pick: HBHGBJZAA 16 inch 57-link four-pack Best value: CHAMSUREUK 16 inch 56-link three-pack – About £14.99 for three 56-link chains at 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch, with reviews that describe that 16 inch spec. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

A chainsaw chain is a riveted loop of cutters, drive links and tie straps. You buy one in the UK to replace the loop on a saw you already own. A suitable chainsaw chain matches the bar and the sprocket on pitch, gauge and drive-link count. Bar length alone is not enough: two loops sold for the same bar can still differ in link count. Pitch has to match the sprocket and the bar nose. Standard 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch low profile are different pitches. A title that only says 3/8 inch is not low profile unless it also says LP or P. Gauge has to match the groove: .043 inch is 1.1 mm, .050 inch is 1.3 mm, and .058 inch is 1.5 mm. A thinner chain in a wider groove can lean. Count the drive links on the old chain. Cutter shape comes after those numbers. The [chainsaw chain buying guide](/hub/saw-accessories/chainsaw-chain/sub/chainsaw-chain-buying-guide) sets the four checks out before shape. If the stamp is gone, ask a dealer rather than guessing from the model name.

The best chainsaw chains in detail

HBHGBJZAA 16 inch 57-link four-pack

Rank 1

HBHGBJZAA 16 inch 57-link four-pack

∼£15

Our view

The HBHGBJZAA four-pack is £14.99 for four 16 inch chains at 57 drive links, 3/8 inch LP, and 0.050 inch. The star line is 4.7 from four reviews, and the file contains two UK bodies, so that average says almost nothing about edge life. One reviewer fitted a 16 inch cordless saw and called the chain sharp. The other had 56 links on the bar against 57 on this pack, and wrote that the tensioner would have to take up the slack or a link would have to come off. He also said durability was untested. The listing says it fits most standard 16 inch saws and names none. Four chains at this price are a spare only after you have counted 57 links.

Pros

  • Four chains at £14.99 with 57 links, 3/8 inch LP, and 0.050 inch in the title
  • Both stored reviews treat the pack as spare chains at about £15
  • One reviewer did check pitch and gauge on the bar stamp
  • Bullet names 65 manganese steel

Cons

  • 4.7 from four reviews, and only two bodies in the file
  • No model list, only “most standard 16 inch” saws
  • One reviewer needed 56 links, not 57
  • No months-of-use report

Best for: You have already counted 57 links at 3/8 inch LP and 0.050 inch, and you want several spares while accepting almost no review history.

Less suitable: You are sorting by stars, your bar is 56 links, or you want UK texts about more than a first fit.

Common questions

Will it fit a specific model?

The listing does not name models. It says it fits most standard 16 inch chainsaws with 57 drive links, 3/8 inch LP, and 0.050 inch gauge.

How many UK review texts sit behind the stars?

The star line is 4.7 from 4 reviews. Two UK review texts are stored, so that average says little about how long the cutters last.

Did a reviewer match the link count?

One reviewer has 56 drive links on the bar and 57 on this chain, and wrote that the tensioner would have to take up the slack or a link would have to come off.

Oregon 91P057E single chain

Rank 2

Oregon 91P057E single chain

∼£14

Our view

The Oregon 91P057E is one chain at £14.11 for a 16 inch bar at 3/8 inch low profile, .050 inch, and 57 drive links, and it is the top pick in this set when those numbers are already on your bar. Across 3,358 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.6, and sampled UK texts describe a fit on Titan saws, including a TTB355CHN, plus a first cut that showed how blunt the old chain was. One reviewer fitted the chain the wrong way round and it would not cut until it was reversed, and another said it was dull after a single cut. The bullet says Chamfer Chisel and saws up to 42 cc, while the attribute says Full Chisel and a length line reads 9 cm. Oregon’s own UK page for this part says chamfer chisel, so the attribute is the conflict. It is the wrong purchase if you counted 56 links.

Pros

  • One named part, 91P057E, at £14.11 for 57 links, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch
  • 4.6 from 3,358 amazon.co.uk reviews, with Titan fits in the sampled texts
  • Bullet states chamfer chisel, low kickback, and saws up to 42 cc
  • Two-year manufacturer warranty is printed on the listing

Cons

  • Attribute says Full Chisel while the bullet and Oregon’s UK page say chamfer chisel
  • An item-length line reads 9 cm against a 16 inch bar
  • One review was dull after a single cut
  • One chain only, so a spare means another order

Best for: You have counted 57 drive links at 3/8 inch low profile and .050 inch, and you want the part with the largest UK review set in this folder.

Less suitable: Your bar is 55 or 56 links, or you need a square-corner chain the listing never states cleanly.

Common questions

Is this full chisel or chamfer chisel?

The bullet says Chamfer Chisel, low kickback, and low vibration. The attribute says Full Chisel. The part number on the listing is 91P057E.

How many chains are in the pack?

One. Included components say CHAIN 91P-57E. Number of items is 1.

What did reviewers struggle with?

One review says the chain cut only after it was fitted the right way round. Another says it was dull after one cut. Several reviews report a fit on Titan saws.

Rotatech 14 inch 52-link pair

Rank 3

Rotatech 14 inch 52-link pair

∼£20

Our view

The Rotatech pair at £19.99 is two 14 inch chains, 52 drive links and 1.3 mm, named for Husqvarna 135, 235, and 236. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.6 from 637 reviews, and sampled texts mention a fit on a Husqvarna 135, a Husqvarna 120, and an FPCS 1880A. One reviewer said the chain was too short, another thought it felt thinner than the maker’s chain and wore sooner, and one saw wear starting after a few large trees. The attribute says Full Chisel, while the bullet says comparable to Oregon 91PX052 and does not say LP. A seller line about changing the bar every three chains is not an HSE interval. Match 52 links at 1.3 mm before you trust the model list.

Pros

  • Names Husqvarna 135, 235, and 236 at 52 links and 1.3 mm
  • 4.6 from 637 reviews, with a Husqvarna 135 mentioned in the texts
  • Two chains at £19.99
  • Bullet points occasional users at an Oregon 91PX comparison

Cons

  • Full Chisel attribute conflicts with the 91PX bullet
  • Pitch is written as 3/8 inch without LP
  • One review says the chain was too short
  • One review describes a shorter life than the maker’s chain

Best for: You have counted 52 links at 1.3 mm on a Husqvarna 135, 235, or 236 and you can ignore a conflicting cutter attribute.

Less suitable: You need 50 links, a clearly stated low-profile pitch, or a cutter the listing describes the same way twice.

Common questions

Is the cutter full chisel?

The attribute says Full Chisel. The bullet says the chain is comparable to Oregon 91PX052 and suitable for home owners and occasional users. Those two lines are both on the listing.

Does it include a guide bar?

No. The bullets do not list a bar. They do say, as a seller claim, to change the guide bar on average every three chains.

Which saws do reviewers mention?

Reviews mention a Husqvarna 135, a Husqvarna 120, and an FPCS 1880A. One review says the chain was too short.

Savior 16 inch 56-link three-pack

Rank 4

Savior 16 inch 56-link three-pack

∼£20

Our view

The Savior three-pack states the same 16 inch loop as the £14.99 CHAMSUREUK pack: 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, 56 drive links, semi-chisel, at £19.99. It showed as chain rank 1 on amazon.co.uk, with 4.6 from 413 reviews, which is a shop rank rather than a cut test. Sampled reviews include a Ryobi fit, a day of log cutting, and one owner who cut most of a fallen oak on a single chain. Another said the chain was blunt after three cuts of a 4 inch branch. The bullet says 16 inch is the cutting length and the whole loop is about 51 cm. The extra £5 is not justified by the rank, and the pack is still the wrong length at 55 or 57 links.

Pros

  • 56 links, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, three chains, stated clearly
  • 4.6 from 413 reviews, including a day’s log cutting in one text
  • Bullet separates 16 inch cutting length from about 51 cm overall
  • Named Titan, Hyundai, Einhell, Husqvarna, and Dolmar models, with a check-your-chain line

Cons

  • £19.99 against £14.99 for the same stated link count and gauge
  • Chain rank 1 is not a cutting result
  • Some reviews lose the edge after very little wood
  • No storage case, despite the question on the page

Best for: You have confirmed 56 links at 1.3 mm and 3/8 inch LP, and you want a second three-pack to compare with the £14.99 listing.

Less suitable: You are choosing on best-seller rank, or your bar is 55 or 57 links.

Common questions

Is 16 inch the length of the loop?

The bullet says 16 inch is the usable cutting length and that the total length is about 51 cm. It tells you to match the cutting length you need.

Does it come with a case?

The page asks. Included components say three chains only.

Do the reviews agree on sharpness?

Some say the chain stayed sharp, including a day of log cutting. Others say it went blunt quickly, including after three cuts of a 4 inch branch. The star line is 4.6 from 413 reviews.

Anesty 14 inch bar and four chains

Rank 5

Anesty 14 inch bar and four chains

∼£23

Our view

The Anesty set is the only row here with a bar in the box: one 14 inch bar and four semi-chisel chains at £22.90, stated as 52 drive links, 3/8 inch low profile, and 1.3 mm. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.6 from 331 reviews, and sampled texts say the bar and chains cut logs, including a purchase for a Worx 40 V saw. One reviewer who had not cut yet thought the bar was heavier than the Makita bar it was meant to replace. Several reviews are short praise with no period of use, and the listing names no chainsaw model. It will not correct a 50-link bar or a 1.1 mm groove. An item-length attribute that reads 70 inches is a listing conflict, not a bar length.

Pros

  • 14 inch bar plus four chains at £22.90
  • 52 links, 3/8 inch low profile, and 1.3 mm stated together
  • 4.6 from 331 reviews, with texts that describe cutting logs
  • Semi-chisel stated, without a conflicting Full Chisel attribute

Cons

  • No saw models named, so the bar stamp still has to match
  • One comment says the bar felt heavier than a Makita bar, before any cut
  • Many reviews are too short to judge how long the cutters last
  • An item-length attribute reads 70 inches

Best for: You need a 14 inch, 52-link, 1.3 mm bar as well as spare chains, and you can check the stamp before you fit it.

Less suitable: Your saw is 50 links, 1.1 mm, or 16 inch, or you want a named Stihl or Husqvarna fit.

Common questions

Is a guide bar in the box?

Yes. Included components list one 14 inch (35 cm) bar and four chains.

Which chainsaws are named?

None. The bullet gives bar length, 52 drive links, 3/8 inch low profile, and 0.050 inch gauge, and says the set is for light compact saws.

The page asks. The included-components line does not list a case.

Oregon 91P056X3 three-chain pack

Rank 6

Oregon 91P056X3 three-chain pack

∼£38

Our view

The Oregon 91P056X3 pack is £37.68, the highest price in this set, with 4.5 from 1,459 amazon.co.uk reviews. The bullet describes a 16 inch, 3/8 inch low-profile, .050 inch chamfer-chisel chain of 56 drive links for saws up to 42 cc, and the same bullet also writes 45 cm while the drive-link attribute says 160. Sampled reviews praise a Titan fit and a day’s hardwood, and they also include a chain that went blunt quickly enough for one owner to call it a waste of money. Chamfer chisel is consistent here, unlike the Full Chisel attribute on the £14.11 57-link chain. Number of packs is 3 and number of items is 1. At this price, with those conflicts, it sits behind both the 57-link single and the £14.99 56-link three-pack.

Pros

  • Oregon part 91P056X3, chamfer chisel stated in the bullet and the attribute
  • 4.5 from 1,459 reviews, with Titan fits and a day’s cutting in the sample
  • Low-kickback wording tied to a bumper link and a manual check
  • Named list of compact saws up to 42 cc

Cons

  • £37.68 against much cheaper 56-link three-packs
  • Bullet says 56 links and the attribute says 160
  • 16 inch and 45 cm appear in the same specification
  • At least one review says the chain went blunt quickly

Best for: You have confirmed 56 links at 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch, and you specifically want this Oregon part despite the conflicting count fields.

Less suitable: You want 57 links, a clean link count, or the lower £14.99 three-pack of the same stated length.

Common questions

How many drive links does the listing state?

The bullet says 56. The attribute says 160. Number of packs is 3 and number of items is 1.

Does the bullet claim reduced kickback?

Yes. It says a bumper drive link and depth gauge offer reduced kickback, and that you should verify the fit in the chainsaw manual.

What is the main review complaint?

At least one review says the chain went blunt quickly. Others praise the fit on a Titan saw and a day’s cutting. The star line is 4.5 from 1,459 reviews.

Rotatech 16 inch 55-link pair

Rank 7

Rotatech 16 inch 55-link pair

∼£20

Our view

The Rotatech pair at £19.99 states two chains at 3/8 inch LP and 55 drive links, with Oregon 91PX055E and Stihl Picco Micro numbers in the bullet, plus Stihl models that overlap the 50-link pair. The title says 16 inch and writes the gauge as 0.50 inch, while a bullet writes .050 inch and another says the pack fits a 14 inch bar. Across 722 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.5, including an exact fit on a 16 inch Stihl MS231 and at least one chain that would not fit. More than one reviewer said the cutters blunted earlier than expected. Do not merge this ASIN with the £17.99 50-link pair just because the model names repeat. Read the stamp before you choose which of the listing’s lengths to believe.

Pros

  • 55 links and 3/8 inch LP, with Oregon and Stihl part numbers in the bullet
  • 4.5 from 722 reviews, including a reported fit on a 16 inch Stihl MS231
  • Two chains at £19.99
  • Sharp out of the packet in several sampled texts

Cons

  • Title says 0.50 inch and 16 inch; bullets also say .050 inch and a 14 inch bar
  • At least one review says the chains would not fit
  • Early blunting shows up in more than one review
  • Stihl model names overlap the 50-link pair and invite a wrong order

Best for: You have confirmed 55 links at 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch on a 16 inch Stihl bar, and you will ignore the 14 inch sentence.

Less suitable: You are matching from the model name alone, or your bar is 50, 56, or 57 links.

Common questions

Is the gauge 0.50 inch or .050 inch?

The title writes 0.50 inch. The bullet writes .050 inch together with 3/8 inch LP and 55 drive links. Both strings are on the listing.

Why do the bullets mention both 14 inch and 16 inch?

The first bullet says the pack fits a 14 inch bar. Later bullets say 16 inch and name 55-link Oregon and Stihl part numbers. The title says 16 inch (40 cm).

What fit problems are in the reviews?

One review says the chains would not fit. Others report an exact fit on a 16 inch Stihl, including an MS231. Some say the cutters blunted earlier than they wanted.

CHAMSUREUK 16 inch 56-link three-pack

Rank 8

CHAMSUREUK 16 inch 56-link three-pack

∼£15

Our view

The CHAMSUREUK three-pack is the best value in this set when your 16 inch bar is 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, and 56 drive links, at £14.99 for three loops. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.4 from 1,361 reviews, and sampled texts include a fit on an Einhell GH-EC 2040 as well as chains that went dull after little cutting. One reviewer said sharpening was not worth it at this price. The bullet names Titan, Hyundai, Einhell, Husqvarna, Oregon CS1400, and Dolmar models, and it also says bar length alone is not enough. A seller sentence claims UL approval and ANSI standards with no document number, which is not a UK certificate. Skip it if your stamp says 55 or 57 links.

Pros

  • Three chains at £14.99 for 56 links, 3/8 inch LP, and .050 inch
  • 4.4 from 1,361 reviews, including a stated fit on an Einhell GH-EC 2040
  • Bullet tells you bar length is not a full specification
  • Lower shelf price than the Savior three-pack with the same stated numbers

Cons

  • Several reviews say the edge went after little cutting
  • UL and ANSI are claimed with no document number
  • The 20 inch CHAMSUREUK listing shares this star line, so check the ASIN
  • Not a match for 55 or 57 links

Best for: You need spare 56-link, 1.3 mm, 3/8 inch LP chains and you accept that some reviewers dulled them quickly.

Less suitable: You want a documented UK certificate, a 57-link Oregon part, or a bar that is not 56 links.

Common questions

Is 16 inch enough to order this?

No. The bullet says the chain needs an exact identification and gives 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, and 56 drive links for a 16 inch bar.

Does the listing say the chain needs oil?

The page asks. The bullets do not answer with an oil type or interval.

What do the reviews repeat?

Fit on an Einhell GH-EC 2040 is praised. Another review says the chains went dull quickly after little cutting. The star line is 4.4 from 1,361 reviews.

CHAMSUREUK 20 inch 76-link three-pack

Rank 9

CHAMSUREUK 20 inch 76-link three-pack

∼£20

Our view

The CHAMSUREUK three-pack at £19.99 states a 20 inch bar, .325 inch LP, 0.058 inch gauge, and 76 drive links, and the bullet says the chain itself is not 20 inches long. It names a Hyundai HYC6220, Parker, Timberpro, Dynamac, Echo, and Dolmar saws. The star line is 4.4 from 1,361, the same line as the 16 inch CHAMSUREUK ASIN, and the sampled bodies describe 16 inch chains, including an Einhell GH-EC 2040. Those texts are not experience of this .325 inch loop, so they are not used here as praise or as a dulling rate. No sampled review names the HYC6220. If your stamp matches 76 links at .325 and .058, this is the only row that says so, and you are buying it without matching UK review text.

Pros

  • Only row here at 76 links, .325 inch LP, and 0.058 inch
  • Three chains at £19.99, with the bar length distinguished from chain length
  • Bullet names 20 inch saws including Hyundai HYC6220
  • Semi-chisel and a low-kickback sentence are in the bullet

Cons

  • The 1,361 reviews match the 16 inch listing and describe a 16 inch saw
  • No sampled review confirms the 76-link chain
  • UL and ANSI are claimed with no document number
  • Wrong pitch and gauge for the 16 inch 3/8 inch LP rows

Best for: Your bar stamp reads 20 inch, .325 inch LP, 0.058 inch, and 76 drive links, and you can accept a listing whose reviews describe a different chain.

Less suitable: You are using the star rating as proof, or your saw is 16 inch at 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch.

Common questions

Is this the same chain as the 16 inch CHAMSUREUK pack?

No. This listing says a 20 inch bar, .325 inch LP, 0.058 inch gauge, and 76 drive links. The 16 inch listing is 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, and 56 links.

Do the reviews describe this 20 inch chain?

The star line matches the 16 inch CHAMSUREUK listing, 4.4 from 1,361. Sampled review bodies describe 16 inch chains, including an Einhell GH-EC 2040. They are not evidence for this specification.

Is the chain made of stainless steel?

The page asks. The bullet says imported steel and chrome-plated cutters. It does not say stainless steel.

The Rotatech pair at £17.99 is two 14 inch chains at 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch (1.3 mm), and 50 drive links, named for selected Stihl saws including MS180, MS181, and MS231. Across 915 amazon.co.uk reviews the line is 4.4, and sampled texts praise a sharp first cut and a price below the Stihl chains some owners usually buy, including one chain still sharp after ten tanks on beech. Others say it stretches and needs frequent tensioning, goes blunt within a couple of cuts, or kicked more than the low-kickback title suggested. The bullet tells you to check the chain you already have, and it does not claim every 14 inch Stihl. The printed weight of 20 g for two chains is not believable. It is the wrong pair if your bar uses 52 links.

Pros

  • 50 links, 3/8 inch LP, and 1.3 mm named for selected Stihl MS180-class saws
  • Two chains at £17.99, 4.4 from 915 reviews
  • Sampled reviews describe a sharp first cut and a fit on a Stihl
  • Bullet says to check the existing chain rather than the model name alone

Cons

  • Stretch and frequent tensioning come up in the reviews
  • Some users blunt both chains on modest cutting
  • One reviewer reported more kickback than they expected
  • Listed weight of 20 g does not match two chains

Best for: Your 14 inch Stihl bar is stamped 50 links, 3/8 inch LP, and .050 inch, and you want a spare pair below Stihl’s own loop.

Less suitable: You have 52 links, a 16 inch bar, or you need the chain to stay tight without regular checks.

Common questions

Does this pack include a guide bar?

No. The page asks, and the bullets describe two chains only.

Will it fit every 14 inch Stihl?

The bullet limits the claim to saws that need 14 inch, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch, and 50 drive links, and names selected models. It says to check the chain you have.

What do the reviews say about life?

Some reviews praise a sharp first cut. Others say the chain stretches or goes blunt quickly, including one report of more kickback than expected.

FuGuiB 14 inch 1.1 mm three-pack

Rank 11

FuGuiB 14 inch 1.1 mm three-pack

∼£11

Our view

The FuGuiB three-pack is the lowest price here, £10.99 for three 14 inch chains at 3/8 inch LP, 52 drive links, and 1.1 mm, which is the wrong groove for a bar stamped 1.3 mm. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.3 from 573 reviews, and the file holds 25 UK bodies: some found it sharp on arrival, including on timber dragged over gravel, while others report dulling within minutes, stretch, or a chain that came off the bar. One review says it did not fit a 12 inch Stihl MSA bar. The bullet names Makita, Einhell, and Bosch models, and the attribute names only a Ryobi RY40502. The pitch attribute says “52 teeth per inch”, which is not a pitch, and the bar is written as both 35 cm and 35.5 cm. Buy it only when the stamp says 1.1 mm and 52 links.

Pros

  • Three chains at £10.99
  • 1.1 mm, 52 links, and 3/8 inch LP are in the title
  • 4.3 from 573 reviews, with some sharp-on-arrival comments
  • A stated semi-chisel attribute, without a second cutter name

Cons

  • 1.1 mm will not suit a 1.3 mm groove
  • Reviews include fast dulling, stretch, and a chain that left the bar
  • Did not fit a 12 inch Stihl bar in one review
  • Pitch attribute and the Makita-versus-Ryobi fit lines disagree

Best for: Your 14 inch bar is stamped 1.1 mm, 3/8 inch LP, and 52 drive links, and you want the cheapest spare in this set.

Less suitable: Your bar is .050 inch or 1.3 mm, or you are buying from the price alone.

Common questions

Is this the same as a 1.3 mm 52-link chain?

No. The title and bullet say 1.1 mm gauge and 52 drive links. A 1.3 mm chain is a different groove.

Which saws does the listing name?

The bullet names Makita DUC353Z, DUC355Z, UC3541A, UC3510A, Einhell GP-LC 36/35 Li-Solo, and Bosch AKE35 S and related AKE35 bars. The attribute line names only Ryobi RY40502 40V.

Does the listing say the chain needs oil?

The page asks the question. The bullet does not give an oil instruction.

How we compared

Eleven amazon.co.uk listings, captured on 19 October 2026, are scored from 0 to 100. The weights are Amazon evidence 25, listing agreement 30, review outcome 25 and value 20. A star row is the amazon.co.uk figure. A low-kickback bullet is a seller sentence, not an HSE measurement. There is no cut test. The highest score is the top pick, once. Best value is the lower shelf price of the two 56-link, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch three-packs whose sampled reviews describe a 16 inch saw.

1

Amazon evidence

25%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk, then a hard deduction when the count is four reviews, or when the written reviews describe a different bar, pitch or link count.

2

Listing agreement

30%

Pitch, gauge, drive links and bar length that agree with each other score higher. A full-chisel attribute against a chamfer or 91PX bullet, a 14 inch line against a 16 inch line, or 160 links against 56 lose points.

3

Review outcome

25%

UK texts that describe fitting and cutting on the stated specification score higher than a file whose bodies belong to another ASIN, or a file with two bodies and an untested edge.

4

Value

20%

Shelf price in GBP for a loop whose three numbers are stated. The lowest pack price does not win this block when the gauge is 1.1 mm and the bar you have is 1.3 mm, or when the reviews do not describe that chain.

Chainsaw chain buying guide

A chainsaw chain has to match the bar and sprocket you already own. Read pitch, gauge and drive-link count before cutter shape or pack price. Prices below are the amazon.co.uk figures stored for these eleven listings on 19 October 2026. The scores are a listing method. These chains were not cut-tested.

What is a chainsaw chain?

A chainsaw chain is a riveted loop, and the UK buyer has to match it to the bar and sprocket they already own. Husqvarna UK says you need bar length, pitch, gauge and drive-link count, and that two chains sold for a 16 inch bar can still differ in link count. Stihl UK says 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch P, also called low profile or Picco, are different pitches, and that a 1.1 mm chain in a 1.3 mm bar leans and is more likely to leave the groove.

Best for

  • A household saw whose stamp already shows pitch, gauge and drive links
  • A 50-link, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch bar on a selected Stihl MS180-class saw
  • A 14 inch bar you are replacing, when the new bar is also 52 links and 1.3 mm

Not ideal for

  • Paid top-handled work, which AFAG308 puts on the saw maker’s chain
  • A buyer who only knows the bar length, or who wants to change pitch or gauge
  • Anyone treating a low-kickback sentence as proof that kickback is prevented

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying on bar length

Two chains sold for a 16 inch bar can still be 55, 56 or 57 drive links. Husqvarna UK treats the link count as part of the size. Count the old chain, or read a stamp that is still legible, before you use the inch figure in the title.

  2. 2

Mixing 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch LP

Stihl UK says 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch P are not interchangeable. A title that only says 3/8 inch is not low profile unless it also says LP, P or Picco. The .325 inch, 76-link row is a third pitch, for a 20 inch bar.

  3. 3

Reading 0.50 inch as .050 inch

One 55-link title writes 0.50 inch while a bullet writes .050 inch, which is 1.3 mm. Fitting 1.1 mm because another 52-link chain fitted last year is the same kind of miss. A full-chisel attribute against a chamfer-chisel bullet is not settled either.

What to weigh up

Pitch, gauge and drive links

High

Pitch, gauge and drive-link count are the match, and bar length is only the first of four numbers. Husqvarna UK says you need all four, and that two chains sold for a 16 inch bar can still differ in link count. The common homeowner pitch in this set is 3/8 inch low profile. A title that only says 3/8 inch is not low profile unless it also says LP, P or Picco. One row is a different pitch: the 20 inch CHAMSUREUK pack at about £19.99, .325 inch low profile, .058 inch and 76 links.

Cutter, pack and review evidence

High

Cutter shape comes after the numbers match. Maker pages sell semi-chisel or chamfer chisel for occasional users, and full chisel as the faster shape in clean timber. Show both lines when they disagree. The Oregon 91P057E bullet says chamfer chisel and the attribute says full chisel. Oregon’s UK page for that part says chamfer chisel, so the attribute is the conflict.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Household cutting, 57 links

You have counted 57 drive links at 3/8 inch low profile and .050 inch on a 16 inch bar. The Oregon 91P057E is the top pick at about £14.11, with 4.6 from 3,358 reviews. The bullet says chamfer chisel and the attribute says full chisel. Skip it if you counted 56 links.

Stihl MS180-class, 50 links

You want a 50-link, 3/8 inch LP, .050 inch pair that names selected Stihl MS180-class saws. The Rotatech pair is about £17.99, with 4.4 from 915 reviews. It is the wrong pair at 52 links. The printed weight of 20 g is not credible.

Spare 56-link chains

Your 16 inch bar is 56 links, 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch, and you want three chains. The CHAMSUREUK pack is best value at about £14.99, with 4.4 from 1,361 reviews that describe that spec. Several say the edge went quickly. The Savior pack states the same numbers at about £19.99.

Common questions about chainsaw chains

Which chainsaw chain is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Oregon 91P057E, one chain at about £14.11 for a 16 inch bar at 3/8 inch low profile, .050 inch and 57 drive links. The card score is 85 out of 100, with 4.6 from 3,358 amazon.co.uk reviews and UK texts that name Titan saws. The bullet says chamfer chisel; the attribute says full chisel. Oregon’s UK page for this part says chamfer chisel. It is the wrong chain if you counted 56 links. This is a listing score, not a cut test.
How much does a chainsaw chain cost on amazon.co.uk?
Shelf prices in this set, captured on 19 October 2026, run from about £10.99 to £37.68. Entry, about £11 to £15, covers a 1.1 mm three-pack, the 57-link single, a 56-link three-pack and a 57-link four-pack. Mid, about £18 to £23, covers the two-chain pairs, a second 56-link three-pack, the 20 inch three-pack and the only set with a bar. The upper row is an Oregon three-pack at about £37.68. Dividing a pack price by the chain count is shopper arithmetic, not a printed unit price.
What should you match before you buy a chainsaw chain?
Match four numbers to the bar and sprocket you already own: bar length, pitch, gauge and drive-link count. Husqvarna UK says two chains sold for a 16 inch bar can still differ in link count. Stihl UK says 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch P are different pitches, and that a 1.1 mm chain in a 1.3 mm bar can lean. Count the old chain. In this set, 16 inch rows are 55, 56 or 57 links, and 14 inch rows are 50 or 52. Cutter shape comes after those numbers.
Is 3/8 inch the same as 3/8 inch low profile?
No. Stihl UK says 3/8 inch and 3/8 inch P, also called low profile or Picco, are not interchangeable. A title that only says 3/8 inch is not low profile unless it also says LP, P or Picco. One listing in this set is .325 inch low profile, for a 20 inch bar, .058 inch gauge and 76 links. There is no .404 inch chain here. Pitch has to match the sprocket and the bar nose, not just the inch figure in the title.
Does a low-kickback chain stop kickback?
No. HSE leaflet INDG317 says a low-kickback chain and a working chain brake reduce kickback and do not prevent it. People who use a chainsaw at work must be trained. AFAG308 requires a reduced-kickback chain on a top-handled saw, and that work belongs on the saw maker’s chain. PUWER 1998 applies when the saw is work equipment. A seller sentence that says it meets ANSI standards is not a UK certificate, and BS EN ISO 11681-1:2022 is a saw standard, not a certificate for these loops.
Can you trust the star rating on the 20 inch listing?
The 20 inch three-pack states .325 inch low profile, .058 inch gauge and 76 drive links, at about £19.99. Its star line is 4.4 from 1,361 reviews, the same line as the 16 inch listing from the same seller, and the sampled review bodies describe a 16 inch saw. Those texts are not experience of the .325 inch chain. If your stamp matches 76 links at .325 inch and .058 inch, this is the only row here that says so, and you are buying it without matching UK review text.
Should you sharpen a blunt chain or replace the loop?
Several reviews in this set say an edge went after little cutting. That is a reason to check the stamp and the cutter type, not a measured life. Changing the bar every three chains is a seller claim, not an HSE interval. This page does not give a file diameter. Sharpening a saw blade is a different accessory, compared on the saw blade sharpener page. Replacing the loop still starts with pitch, gauge and drive links.

Our verdict

In this set of eleven amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick is the Oregon 91P057E. It is about £14.11 for one 16 inch chain at 3/8 inch low profile, .050 inch and 57 drive links, with 4.6 from 3,358 reviews. The bullet says chamfer chisel and the attribute says full chisel. Best value is the CHAMSUREUK three-pack at about £14.99 for 56 links, 3/8 inch LP and .050 inch, with 4.4 from 1,361 reviews and repeated comments that the edge went quickly. The other nine have no award. None of these scores is a cut test, and a low-kickback sentence does not mean kickback is prevented.
