A scroll saw blade is a narrow consumable that reciprocates in a bench scroll saw. In the UK you buy one to replace a snapped or blunt blade, or to change the pitch for wood, plastic, foam or a soft metal. Most are about 127 mm between the mounts. You recognise a suitable scroll saw blade by the end, the length the manual means, and the teeth. Pin ends drop into a notch. Plain ends are clamped. A title that says plain can still arrive with pins, so look at a photo of the ends. Pin-to-pin length and overall length are different figures. About 10 teeth per inch suits coarser wood, about 15 to 18 suits general wood, and finer counts suit thin sheet. A pinned tooth count is not a plain-end universal size. A blade about 3 mm wide will not turn through a small internal hole. Unplug the saw before a change. If the saw is work equipment, guarding duties apply. The mount check is in our guide to [pin or plain scroll saw blades](/hub/saw-accessories/scroll-saw-blade/sub/scroll-saw-blade-pin-or-plain).

The best scroll saw blades in detail

Xcalibur 10-piece 21 TPI blades

Rank 1

Xcalibur 10-piece 21 TPI blades

Our view

This Xcalibur pack is ten carbon-steel blades at 21 TPI, listed at £8.99, with a title length of 130 mm and a thickness of 0.4 mm. The star line is 4.9 from 13 reviews, a high average on a thin sample beside Olson’s thousands. The title does not say pin or plain. A UK review describes a locating pin at each end, a 5 in length, and a fit in a budget scroll saw. Reviews name a cut in 1.5 cm pine and a kitchen fit through thin ply, laminate, softwood and thick MDF. That MDF job blunted a blade over the day and did not snap it. A stored review also set the teeth facing downwards, which matches the direction Einhell prints for its own saw. You are buying one pitch, and the pin is evidenced by a review rather than by the title.

Pros

  • Ten blades at a single 21 TPI pitch
  • 130 mm in the title and 0.4 mm thick
  • A UK review describes pins and a fit in a budget scroll saw
  • An MDF kitchen job blunted a blade over the day without snapping it

Cons

  • 4.9 from only 13 reviews
  • Pin ends are in a review, not in the title
  • Thick MDF blunted a blade across one day’s fitting work
  • One pitch only, so it is not a mixed spare drawer

Best for: You want a single finer pitch around 21 TPI for thin ply, laminate or softwood on a pin-end saw, and you accept a small review sample.

Less suitable: You need several tooth counts in one box, or you are about to cut thick MDF all day on one blade.

Common questions

Are these pin-end blades?

The title does not say pin or plain. A UK review describes a locating pin at each end, a 5 in length, and a fit in a budget scroll saw.

What did UK reviews cut with them?

Reviews name 1.5 cm pine, and a kitchen fit in thin ply, laminate, softwood and thick MDF. That MDF job blunted a blade over the day and did not snap it.

LuLobtg plain-end set

Rank 2

LuLobtg plain-end set

Our view

The LuLobtg listing is £7.99 and the title says 60 plain-end 5 in blades at 10, 12 and 28 TPI, with a star line of 4.8 from 6 reviews and no review text stored with the listing. The package bullet says 20 of 10 TPI, 20 of 12 TPI and 28 of 10 TPI, which adds to 68 and repeats 10 TPI instead of 28 TPI. That conflict means you cannot treat the title count or the 28 TPI line as settled. Plain end is the title only. No stored review confirms the ends, so this is not the pack to buy if your saw must clamp a pinless blade. A 4.8 from six ratings, with nothing written underneath, does not outrank 4.6 from 4,758 on the Olson assortment. Width and thickness are not stated. It is a plain-end claim that the page itself disagrees with.

Pros

  • About £7.99, under the Olson and Xcalibur 18-piece shelves
  • Title offers three pitches, including a fine 28 TPI claim
  • 5 inch length is stated on the title

Cons

  • Title says 60 blades; the bullet adds to 68
  • The bullet repeats 10 TPI and does not show 28 TPI
  • 4.8 from 6 reviews and no review text
  • Plain ends are unconfirmed

Best for: You are only browsing a low price and will not order until a photo shows plain ends and a count that matches the title.

Less suitable: You need a confirmed plain-end blade tonight, or you are ranking packs by a 4.8 star line.

Common questions

How many blades are in the pack?

The title says 60. The package bullet says 20 of 10 TPI, 20 of 12 TPI and 28 of 10 TPI, which adds to 68 and repeats 10 TPI instead of 28 TPI.

Are there review texts?

The listing line is 4.8 from 6. No review text is stored with the listing, so praise and faults are not recorded.

Olson SA4950 18-blade pin assortment

Rank 3

Olson SA4950 18-blade pin assortment

∼£11

Our view

The Olson SA4950 is an 18-blade pin-end skip-tooth assortment at £10.94 on amazon.co.uk, and it carries the largest review line in this set at 4.6 from 4,758. The listing splits the box as six each of SA4110, SA4120 and SA4240, which Shesto’s trade page describes as 15 TPI, 10 TPI and 18.5 TPI skip. In the first 50 UK reviews, several buyers say the pins stay in and the cut looks cleaner than a cheap mixed pack. Others say a pin pulled out, broke, or came off on the first blade, and one of those reviewers blamed a large industrial saw rather than the steel. The number-of-items field says 1, which disagrees with the 18-pack title, so count the blades when the parcel arrives. A page question asks about a storage case, and the included-components line names the pin-end blade, not a case. The listing width is 0.3 cm, so this is a pin-end wood blade rather than a narrow plain-end blade for a small internal hole.

Pros

  • Six each of three skip-tooth codes
  • 4.6 from 4,758 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Trade page maps 15, 10 and 18.5 TPI skip
  • Many early UK reviews say the pins stay seated

Cons

  • Some UK reviews report a pin that pulled out on first fit
  • The number-of-items field says 1 against an 18-pack title
  • No storage case in the included-components line
  • Listing width of 3 mm is too wide for fine internal fretwork

Best for: You have a pin-end bench saw and want a published skip-tooth mix with three pitches in one box.

Less suitable: Your saw only clamps plain ends, or the cut has to start through a small hole with a narrow fret blade.

Common questions

What is in the Olson SA4950 pack?

The listing says a pinned assortment with six each of SA4110, SA4120 and SA4240, and describes them as skip tooth. The number-of-items field says 1, which fights the 18-pack title.

Do the reviews mention pins coming out?

In the first 50 UK reviews, several buyers say pins stay in. Others say a pin pulled out, broke, or came off on the first blade, including one large industrial saw the reviewer blamed on the machine.

Does the listing include a case?

A storage case is one of the page questions. The included-components line names the pin-end blade, not a case.

TXErfolg 16-piece pinned mix

Rank 4

TXErfolg 16-piece pinned mix

Our view

The TXErfolg 16-piece is a pinned carbon-steel mix at £8.89, with 4.6 from 2,228 amazon.co.uk reviews, and it states 127 mm between the pins and 132 mm overall. The bullet names 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth without saying how many of each, and it names Einhell BT-SS 405 E, RT-SS 120 L, TH-SS 405 E and TH-SS 405 EL, or similar roller saws. Where the listing prints size, the blade is 3 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick, so it will not turn like a fine plain-end fret blade. Separate UK reviews say a blade was too wide, that blades did not last five minutes, that the steel was soft and blunt, and that a bundled handle did not work with the blades. The included-components field says No, which sits oddly on a 16-piece title. The review count is the second largest here, and those width and life notes are the limit before you treat 4.6 as a kerf result. It is a named-fit spare for those Einhell models, and the listing does not say every scroll saw.

Pros

  • 127 mm pin to pin, with 132 mm overall stated
  • Names Einhell BT-SS 405 E, RT-SS 120 L, TH-SS 405 E and TH-SS 405 EL
  • 4.6 from 2,228 reviews
  • Mix of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth in a 16-blade pack

Cons

  • UK reviews report width, five-minute life, and soft blunt steel
  • The listing does not say how many blades of each tooth count
  • 3 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick, so tight curves are limited
  • A bundled handle did not work with the blades in a UK review

Best for: You run one of the named Einhell pin-end saws and want a mid-price mix of four pitches.

Less suitable: You need a narrow plain-end blade, or you have already had cheap pinned blades go blunt in a few minutes.

Common questions

Which scroll saws does the listing name?

The bullet names Einhell BT-SS 405 E, RT-SS 120 L, TH-SS 405 E and TH-SS 405 EL, or similar roller saws. It does not say every scroll saw.

How many blades of each tooth count?

The listing names 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth in a pack of 16. It does not say how many of each. The included-components field says No.

What do UK reviews complain about?

Separate UK reviews say the blade was too wide, that blades did not last five minutes, that the steel was soft and blunt, and that a bundled handle did not work with the blades.

Xcalibur 18-piece pinned set

Rank 5

Xcalibur 18-piece pinned set

∼£11

Our view

The Xcalibur 18-piece is £10.99, pinned, and described as 5 in carbon-steel blades, with a star line of 4.5 from 28 reviews. The title says 10, 18 and 21 teeth, while the number-of-teeth attribute says 24, and the listing does not split the 18 blades across those counts. Five UK reviews stored with the listing say the blades fit, last, and are good value, and none of those five names a break, a blunt blade, or a wrong end. That is a short, positive sample, not a reason to outrank Olson’s 4,758 reviews. The listing width is 0.5 cm and the thickness is 0.3 mm, with origin stated as the United Kingdom. You pay more than the £6.99 VooGenzek 20-piece for a pack whose tooth mix the page itself does not agree on. It suits a pin-end saw if you already like this brand’s 21 TPI ten-pack and want a mixed box, and you should count the pitches when it arrives.

Pros

  • Pinned 5 in carbon-steel blades in a pack of 18
  • Five stored UK reviews report a fit and no named defect
  • Thickness stated as 0.3 mm
  • Origin on the listing is the United Kingdom

Cons

  • Title says 10, 18 and 21 teeth; the tooth attribute says 24
  • Only 28 reviews, and only five texts are stored
  • About £10.99 is above the £6.99 mixed pinned pack
  • Listing width of 5 mm is a coarse pin blade

Best for: You want an 18-blade pinned Xcalibur mix and you will check the pitches in the box against the title.

Less suitable: You need a published code split, or you are choosing mainly on review volume.

VooGenzek 20-piece pinned mix

Rank 6

VooGenzek 20-piece pinned mix

Our view

The VooGenzek 20-piece, part GZ058T03, is £6.99 and the lowest-priced pinned mix in this set that still prints a large review line. You get four each of 10, 15, 18, 20 and 24 teeth, 127 mm between pins and 133 mm overall, at 3 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. The bullet names the same Einhell models as the TXErfolg pack: BT-SS 405 E, RT-SS 120 L, TH-SS 405 E and TH-SS 405 EL. The star line is 4.4 from 826, and that line plus the review bodies are shared with the two VooGenzek 40-piece ASINs, so do not add 826 three times. Reviewers in that shared text say pins snap too easily, sizes are not marked on the blades, and blades break after a couple of hours. The page asks about a storage case, and the package line lists 20 blades only. It is the spare drawer when the saw hooks pins and you want several pitches for less than the Olson assortment, with those pin and marking faults as the trade.

Pros

  • About £6.99 for 20 pinned blades, four each of five pitches
  • 127 mm between pins and 133 mm overall
  • Names the same Einhell pin-end models as the TXErfolg pack
  • Includes a 20-tooth pitch the four-pitch 40-piece leaves out

Cons

  • Shared reviews say pins snap and sizes are not marked
  • The same reviews report breakage after a couple of hours
  • The 4.4 from 826 line is shared with two other VooGenzek ASINs
  • No case in the package line, and the blade is 3 mm wide

Best for: You need a cheap pinned spare with 10 to 24 teeth for an Einhell-style saw and you will mark the sizes yourself.

Less suitable: You want blades with sizes printed on the steel, or a plain-end clamp and tight internal fretwork.

Common questions

Is the 826-review line unique to this 20-piece pack?

No. The same 4.4 from 826 line and the same review bodies are on the two VooGenzek 40-piece listings. Do not add 826 three times.

Does the pack include a case?

The page asks about a storage case. The package line lists 20 blades only.

What repeated faults are in the shared reviews?

Reviewers say pins snap too easily, sizes are not marked on the blades, and blades break after a couple of hours.

VooGenzek 40-piece five-pitch set

Rank 7

VooGenzek 40-piece five-pitch set

∼£10

Our view

This VooGenzek 40-piece, part GZ058T04, is £9.99 and prints eight each of 10, 15, 18, 20 and 24 teeth, with 127 mm between pins and 133 mm overall. Width is 3 mm and thickness is 0.3 mm, and the bullet names the same Einhell pin-end models as the 20-piece. The star line is again 4.4 from 826, the same line and the same review bodies as the other two VooGenzek ASINs. Those bodies mention pins that snap, unmarked sizes, and breakage after a couple of hours. The package line lists 40 blades and does not name a case. You are paying £3 more than the 20-piece for twice the count and the same five pitches, including the 20-tooth blades the four-pitch 40-piece leaves out. The shared review text means this is not a separate 826-person verdict on this exact box. Choose it when you already know the 20-piece faults and simply want more of the same mix.

Pros

  • 40 blades, eight each of 10, 15, 18, 20 and 24 teeth
  • 127 mm pin to pin and 133 mm overall
  • Same Einhell model names as the 20-piece
  • About £9.99 keeps a five-pitch drawer in one order

Cons

  • Same shared 4.4 from 826 text as the other VooGenzek packs
  • Pins snap, sizes unmarked, and breakage after a couple of hours
  • No case named in the package line
  • 3 mm wide, so it is not a fine fret blade

Best for: You want the five-pitch VooGenzek mix in a 40-blade box and you already accept the shared review faults.

Less suitable: You wanted a separate review sample for this listing, or a four-pitch box without the 20-tooth blades.

Common questions

How is this 40-piece pack different from the other VooGenzek 40-piece?

This listing says eight each of five pitches, including 20 teeth. The other 40-piece says ten each of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth and does not list 20 teeth. Both print 4.4 from 826.

Is a case included?

The page asks. The package line lists 40 blades and does not name a case.

VooGenzek 40-piece four-pitch set

Rank 8

VooGenzek 40-piece four-pitch set

∼£10

Our view

The other VooGenzek 40-piece, part GZ058T02, is also £9.99 and states ten each of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth, 127 mm pin to pin and 133 mm overall, at 3 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. It does not list a 20-tooth blade, which is the split that separates it from GZ058T04. The number-of-teeth attribute says 40, which matches the pack count rather than a pitch, so that field is not a tooth size. Materials named on the row are wood, plastic and foam, and the Einhell model names sit in a bullet rather than on the device line. The 4.4 from 826 line is the same shared text, with pins snapping, unmarked sizes and early breakage. At the same shelf price as the five-pitch 40-piece, you are choosing the mix, not a better-reviewed blade. Skip it if you wanted the 20-tooth blades printed on the other 40-piece.

Pros

  • Ten each of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth
  • 127 mm between pins, 133 mm overall, 3 mm wide
  • About £9.99, the same shelf as the five-pitch 40-piece
  • A larger count of the four common pitches than the 20-piece

Cons

  • The tooth attribute says 40, which copies the pack count
  • No 20-tooth blades in the stated mix
  • Shared review text with the other VooGenzek listings
  • Pins, unmarked sizes and early breakage are in that text

Best for: You want ten each of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth and you do not need a 20-tooth blade in the same box.

Less suitable: You read the tooth attribute as 40 TPI, or you want the five-pitch mix that includes 20 teeth.

Common questions

Why does the tooth attribute say 40?

The number-of-teeth field is 40, which matches the pack count, not a tooth pitch. The package line says ten each of 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth.

Are the reviews separate from the 20-piece pack?

The listing repeats the same 4.4 from 826 line and the same review text as the other two VooGenzek ASINs.

Brrnoo 12-piece 5.12 inch blades

Rank 9

Brrnoo 12-piece 5.12 inch blades

Our view

The Brrnoo 12-piece is £6.27 for blades the title calls 5.12 inch and size #1, with a star line of 4.0 from 9 reviews. The title says spiral teeth, and a bullet says every third tooth is reversed to limit splintering on the underside, so the page does not settle which tooth style is in the packet. Pin or plain is not stated, and one UK review of an intricate cut in aluminium sheet on a painted car bonnet does not name the ends either. Thickness is printed as 1 mm, which is thicker than the 0.3 mm on the VooGenzek and TXErfolg rows, and the weight line is 3.83 g. Materials named are wood, metal and plastic, which is broader than the soft-metals phrase on the pinned mixes. Nine reviews and a contradictory bullet are a thin basis for a spiral or reverse-tooth job. Buy it only if a photo shows the end, because the mount is missing from the title.

Pros

  • About £6.27 for 12 blades at a stated 5.12 inch length
  • Title prints size #1
  • One UK review describes an intricate cut in aluminium sheet

Cons

  • Spiral in the title, reverse tooth in a bullet
  • Pin or plain end is not stated
  • 4.0 from 9 reviews
  • Printed thickness of 1 mm is heavier than the 0.3 mm pinned mixes

Best for: You can see the blade end in a photo and you want to try the packet the review used on thin aluminium sheet.

Less suitable: You need a known pin or plain mount, or a single tooth style the listing agrees on.

Common questions

Are these spiral blades or reverse-tooth blades?

The title says spiral teeth. A bullet says every third tooth is reversed to limit splintering on the underside. The listing does not resolve that.

One UK review says the blades cut an intricate shape in aluminium sheet on a painted car bonnet. Pin or plain ends are not stated.

Aeaocvo 24-piece 10 and 28 TPI set

Rank 10

Aeaocvo 24-piece 10 and 28 TPI set

Our view

The Aeaocvo 24-piece is the cheapest shelf here at £4.49, and the title says 12 each of 28 TPI and 10 TPI in plain-end 5 in blades. The star line is 3.6 from 9 reviews, the weakest average in the set. A verified UK review says both ends are pinned and the buyer returned them as misleading, and a US review on the same listing also says the blades are pinned, about 5 in apart. The unit-count field says 36 against a 24-item title, so the count is disputed as well as the end. A US review says thinner wood, plywood, MDF and hard plastics under 1/4 in worked, and that wood thicker than about 1/2 in to 3/4 in was slow. That is one review, not a cut test. The width field prints 12.7 cm, which reads like a length rather than a kerf. Do not order this as a plain-end blade.

Pros

  • About £4.49, the lowest shelf price in this set
  • Title offers both a coarse 10 TPI and a fine 28 TPI
  • A US review managed thin plywood, MDF and hard plastic under 1/4 in

Cons

  • A verified UK review says the plain-end title arrived pinned and was returned
  • 3.6 from 9 reviews
  • Unit count says 36 against a 24-piece title
  • The width field of 12.7 cm does not read as a blade width

Best for: You already accept that a UK review found pins, your saw takes pins, and you have seen the ends before paying.

Less suitable: You need plain ends for a clamp, or you are choosing the cheapest title because it says plain.

Common questions

Are the ends plain?

The title says plain end. A verified UK review says both ends are pinned and the buyer returned them as misleading. A US review on the same listing also says the blades are pinned, 5 in apart.

What thickness did a review manage?

A US review says thinner wood, plywood, MDF and hard plastics under 1/4 in worked, and that wood thicker than about 1/2 in to 3/4 in was slow. That is one review, not a test of this comparison.

How we compared

Ten amazon.co.uk scroll saw blade packs were scored from the listings in this set. Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the figures printed for 19 October 2026. No laboratory cut was made. Amazon evidence is 35 of the score: a high star line on a handful of reviews does not outrank a large sample, and one shared review line is counted once. Listing fit is 30: a stated pin-to-pin length, a named saw and a stated pitch split add; a title that conflicts with a review or a bullet comes off. Review outcome is 25, from faults written in the reviews. Value in this set is 10. The four weights sum to 100. The Olson SA4950 assortment scores 94 and is the top pick. The VooGenzek 20-piece at about £6.99 is best value. These scores are not a calibration.

1

Amazon evidence

35%

Stars and the size of the review line. A high average on a handful of reviews does not outrank a large sample. The three VooGenzek listings share one 4.4 from 826 line, and that 826 is counted once.

2

Listing fit

30%

A stated pin-to-pin length, a named saw and a stated pitch split add. A plain-end title a UK review says arrived pinned, a pack count that disagrees with the bullet, a spiral title with a reverse-tooth bullet, and a tooth field that copies the pack count come off.

3

Review outcome

25%

Written faults stay in the score. Pins snapping, unmarked sizes, early breakage, width, soft steel, and pins that come out are the notes in this set. A short review with no named defect is a thin sample, not a clean bill.

4

Value in this set

10%

The lower documented pinned mix is the 20-piece at about £6.99. The documented pin-end assortment with a published code split sits higher on the shelf. A cheaper title whose plain end is disputed does not take the value place.

Scroll saw blade buying guide

Match the mount, then the length the manual means, then the tooth count, then width and pack size. A star line is not a laboratory cut, and a title that says plain can still arrive with pins. Prices below are amazon.co.uk shelf prices from 19 October 2026.

What is a scroll saw blade?

A scroll saw blade is a narrow strip of toothed steel that moves up and down in a bench scroll saw. You buy a new one when a blade snaps or goes blunt, or when the next job needs a different pitch. Wood, plastic, foam and the soft metals named on these listings are the usual jobs. These packs are not a steel-plate blade, and no laboratory cut was made for this comparison. Mount comes first. Pin ends drop into a V-notch. Plain ends are held in a clamp.

Best for

  • A pin-end hobby saw that needs a mixed spare, or a published skip-tooth split
  • A named Einhell pin-end saw, once you have checked 127 mm against the manual

Not ideal for

  • A tight internal cut that has to start through a small hole
  • A clamp-only saw if you are trusting a plain-end title without a photo of the ends

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Trusting a plain-end title

Pin ends drop into a notch and plain ends are clamped. A title that says plain can still arrive with pins. In this set a verified UK review returned one such pack. Look at a photo of the ends before you pay.

  2. 2

    Mixing up the two lengths

127 mm between the pins and 132–133 mm overall are both printed on several packs. Read which figure the manual means. A longer overall length does not mean the blade misses a 127 mm pin spacing.

  3. 3

Reading tooth counts as universal sizes

“18 teeth” on a pinned pack is not universal number 18, and a 3 mm pinned blade will not turn a tight internal hole. Three listings that share one review text are one sample. Do not add that 826 three times.

What to weigh up

Mount and length

High

Match the end to the saw before you compare packs. Pin ends sit in a notch. Plain ends sit in a clamp. If the saw only hooks pins, a plain-end blade will not mount. If the saw only clamps, a pinned blade will not seat. One UK manual describes both seats on the same bench saw. A title is not a photo: one listing here says plain, and a verified UK review says the blades arrived pinned and were returned. Then read the length the manual uses.

Pitch, width and the review line

High

About 10 teeth per inch is the faster, coarser wood blade. About 15–18 suits general wood. Finer counts suit thin sheet. Skip tooth clears chips. Reverse tooth tidies the underside. Do not treat “18 teeth” on a pinned pack as universal size 18, or as a plain-end size such as #5 or 2/0. Where a size is stated, the budget pinned blades here are about 3 mm wide and 0.3 mm thick. That will not do fine internal fretwork. Stars are the amazon.co.uk line.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Pin-end saw, published mix

You have a pin-end bench saw and want three skip-tooth pitches with a published split. The Olson SA4950 assortment is about £10.94, with 4.6 from 4,758 reviews. Some UK reviews report a pin that came out. Skip it if the saw only clamps plain ends.

Lower-priced pinned spare

You want several pitches for an Einhell-style pin-end saw and you will mark the sizes yourself. The VooGenzek 20-piece is about £6.99, four each of five pitches, on a shared 4.4 from 826. Shared reviews say pins snap and sizes are unmarked.

Named Einhell pin-end saw

You run one of the named Einhell pin-end saws and want a separate review line, not the shared 826. The TXErfolg 16-piece is about £8.89, with 4.6 from 2,228 reviews, at 127 mm between the pins. UK reviews also report width, a short life and soft steel.

Common questions about scroll saw blades

Which scroll saw blade is the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the Olson SA4950 18-blade pin assortment, about £10.94, with 4.6 from 4,758 amazon.co.uk reviews. The box is six each of three skip-tooth codes, mapped on a trade page to 15 TPI, 10 TPI and 18.5 TPI skip. Many early UK reviews say the pins stay seated. Others report a pin that pulled out on first fit. The listing width is 3 mm. The listing score is 94. No laboratory cut was made.
Which listing is the best value?
The best value is the VooGenzek 20-piece pinned mix at about £6.99. You get four each of 10, 15, 18, 20 and 24 teeth, at 127 mm between the pins, for the same named Einhell pin-end models as a dearer 16-piece. The star line is 4.4 from 826, shared with two other VooGenzek packs, so do not add 826 three times. Shared reviews say pins snap, sizes are unmarked, and blades break after a couple of hours.
How do you choose pin ends or plain ends?
Match the end to the saw. Pin ends drop into a notch. Plain ends are clamped. A saw that only hooks pins cannot hold a plain-end blade, and a clamp-only saw cannot hold pins. One UK manual describes both seats on the same machine. A title that says plain is not proof: a verified UK review in this set said one plain-end title arrived pinned and was returned. Look at a photo of the ends before you order.
What length should a scroll saw blade be?
Read the figure the manual means. One UK bench saw states a 127 mm blade. Several pinned packs here state 127 mm between the pins and 132–133 mm overall. Those are different measurements. A longer overall figure does not mean the blade misses a 127 mm pin spacing. A 5 inch title and a 127 mm pin spacing are the usual pair on these pinned blades, and they are not a promise for every saw.
What do the tooth counts mean?
About 10 teeth per inch suits coarser wood. About 15 to 18 suits general wood. Finer counts suit thin sheet. Skip tooth clears chips. Reverse tooth tidies the underside. A mixed pinned pack labelled 10, 15, 18 and 24 teeth is not the same numbering as a plain-end universal size such as #5 or 2/0. “18 teeth” on a pinned pack is not universal number 18. Where a width is stated, these pinned blades are about 3 mm wide.
Can these blades start a cut through a small hole?
A pinned blade about 3 mm wide is the wrong tool for a tight internal cut that starts in a small hole. That job wants a narrow plain-end blade, bought as a numbered size from a specialist, not one of the wide pinned mixes here. The plain-end hand-frame alternative is covered in the fret saw blades comparison. Confirm the saw can clamp a plain end before you order one.
What safety rules apply in the UK?
If the saw is work equipment, PUWER 1998 applies: guard dangerous parts, maintain the machine, and restrict use where the risk is specific. HSE woodworking guidance covers most fixed woodworking machines. A home hobbyist is not that dutyholder. Hardwood dust has a workplace exposure limit of 3 mg/m³, softwood 5 mg/m³, and mixtures take 3 mg/m³. Blunt tools make more dust. No HSE sheet in these sources is written for a scroll saw. Unplug before a blade change.
What should you not treat as proof?
No laboratory cut was made, and none of these listings is a safest-blade claim or a UK market size. Do not say every 5 inch blade fits every scroll saw, or that 133 mm overall misses a 127 mm pin spacing. Do not treat the cheapest plain-end title as plain: a verified UK review says it arrived pinned. Do not add the three shared 826-review lines together. A 4.8 from six reviews is not stronger evidence than 4.6 from 4,758.

Our verdict

In this set the top pick is the Olson SA4950 18-blade pin assortment. It scores 94, at about £10.94, with 4.6 from 4,758 amazon.co.uk reviews, and a published skip-tooth split of three pitches. Some UK reviews report a pin that pulled out or came off on first fit. The best value is the VooGenzek 20-piece at about £6.99, four each of five pitches, on a shared 4.4 from 826. Those reviews mention pins that snap, unmarked sizes and breakage after a couple of hours. Neither result is a laboratory cut. Match pin or plain to the saw before either pack.
