A band saw blade is a continuous toothed steel loop. In the UK you buy one because the saw is already yours: a bench wood saw, a larger workshop saw, or a cordless metal saw. Check the loop length in the manual first, in millimetres. Width then decides a straight rip or a curve. Teeth per inch have to suit the thickness. You recognise a suitable band saw blade by length, width, teeth and steel. Carbon steel is the wood blade for a fast bench saw. Fine-pitch bi-metal belongs on a slow metal saw or a cordless cutter. A carbon title that mentions metal does not make a metal blade. An 8 inch label is not a length. Wider tracks straighter and narrower turns tighter. Coarser teeth clear thick timber. Finer teeth suit thin sheet, plywood and plastic, with at least three teeth in the cut. A click can mean a cracked blade. Isolate the saw before a change. Where the saw is work equipment, PUWER 1998 applies. The checks are in the [band saw blade buying guide](/hub/saw-accessories/band-saw-blade/sub/band-saw-blade-buying-guide).

The best band saw blades in detail

Tweozek 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

Rank 1

Tweozek 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

Our view

The Tweozek pack is two 1400 mm carbon blades, 1/4 inch wide, 10 TPI regular tooth, at £9.29. The bullets put the teeth in plastic sleeves with anti-rust oil, and they name softwood, plastic, plywood, MDF, and cardboard, plus aluminium and easy-to-machine carbon steel. Six UK reviews talk about fit and sharpness in wood, not about steel. The listing shows 5.0 from 7 reviews, which is a clean line on a small sample. The thickness attribute says 0.25 inches, which is not a normal blade gauge and should not be read as the real thickness. Weight is listed as 40 g. A quarter-inch blade turns tighter than a 10 mm or 13 mm blade, and it is less steady on a long rip.

Pros

  • Two blades at £9.29
  • Sleeves and anti-rust oil claimed
  • 5.0 from 7 reviews, with wood comments
  • 10 TPI regular tooth at 1/4 inch

Cons

  • Steel and aluminium are claimed; the reviews describe wood
  • Thickness attribute says 0.25 inches
  • Only 7 reviews
  • A narrow blade wanders more on a long straight cut

Best for: Thin wood and plywood on a light 1400 mm saw, with a spare in the pack.

Less suitable: A metal job, or a wide rip where you want a 10–13 mm blade.

Common questions

Is a protective coating included?

The bullets say the teeth are in plastic sleeves and coated with anti-rust oil.

Which materials does the seller name?

Softwood, plastic, plywood, MDF, and cardboard, plus aluminium and easy-to-machine carbon steel. Six UK reviews talk about fit and sharpness in wood, not about steel.

What is the shelf price?

£9.29 for two blades. The listing shows 5.0 from 7 reviews.

Xcalibur 1400 mm 3/8 inch 6 TPI

Rank 2

Xcalibur 1400 mm 3/8 inch 6 TPI

∼£15

Our view

The Xcalibur BS14003806-1_H9 is a single 1400 mm carbon loop, 3/8 inch wide and 6 TPI, listed at £14.99. The title names Scheppach HBS120, Axminster HBS200N, Charnwood W711, Draper XS17, Einhell TC-SB 200/1, Fox F28-184, Lumberjack BS200, and Nutool HBS190, so you match it to those 1400 mm saws rather than to every small bench saw. The stated materials are wood, MDF, acrylic, and plastics, and the bullets do not give an oil instruction. The listing shows 5.0 from 2 reviews, which is too few comments to judge the weld or how long the teeth stay sharp. Thickness is given as 0.45 mm and weight as 50 g. A 1425 mm or 1575 mm saw will not take this loop, and the pack is one blade, so a snapped weld means another order.

Pros

  • 1400 mm, 3/8 inch, and 6 TPI stated together
  • Named UK bench saws in the title
  • Carbon loop for wood, MDF, and plastics
  • Single blade at £14.99

Cons

  • Only 2 reviews
  • No spare blade in the pack
  • No oil instruction on the listing
  • Wrong length for a 1425 mm or 1575 mm saw

Best for: You own one of the named 1400 mm bench saws and want a 6 TPI wood blade.

Less suitable: You need a second blade in the pack, a tight curve, or a metal cut.

Common questions

Which saws does this listing name?

The title names Scheppach HBS120, Axminster HBS200N, Charnwood W711, Draper XS17, Einhell TC-SB 200/1, Fox F28-184, Lumberjack BS200, and Nutool HBS190. The included length is 1400 mm.

Does the listing say the blade needs oil?

The page asks the question, and the bullets do not give an oil instruction. The stated materials are wood, MDF, acrylic, and plastics.

How many blades are in the pack?

The listing says one 1400 mm blade at £14.99.

Xcalibur 3380 mm 13 mm 6 TPI

Rank 3

Xcalibur 3380 mm 13 mm 6 TPI

∼£26

Our view

This Xcalibur blade is the long loop in the set: 3380 mm, 13 mm wide, 6 TPI, with a raker set claimed, at £25.99. It will not fit a 1400 mm bench saw, and it is not a substitute for the 1425 mm or 1575 mm sets either. The stated cut is wood, MDF, plywood, plastics, and acrylic, and the bullets do not give an oil instruction. The listing shows 5.0 from 1 review, and the raw file has no review text, so the star does not describe a cut you can learn from. Thickness is 0.6 mm in the bullet and 0.5 mm in the attribute. Weight is listed as 140 g. A 13 mm blade tracks a straight cut more willingly than a 6 mm blade, and it will not turn a tight curve.

Pros

  • 3380 mm length for a larger wood saw
  • 13 mm width with 6 TPI
  • Raker set claimed
  • Stated for wood, MDF, and plastic

Cons

  • Does not fit a 1400 mm bench saw
  • One review and no written comment
  • Thickness cells disagree
  • £25.99 for a single blade

Best for: A saw whose manual specifies a 3380 mm wood blade.

Less suitable: Any 1400 mm, 1425 mm, 1575 mm, or 733 mm machine.

Common questions

Will this fit a 1400 mm bench saw?

No. The specification is 3380 mm long, 13 mm wide. It is not the benchtop length used by the other Xcalibur blades in this set.

Does the listing say it needs oil?

The page asks, and the bullets do not give an oil instruction. Stated materials are wood, MDF, plywood, plastics, and acrylic.

How many reviews describe the cut?

The listing shows 5.0 from 1 review, and the raw file has no review text.

Mechioo 1400 mm 10 TPI three-pack

Rank 4

Mechioo 1400 mm 10 TPI three-pack

∼£13

Our view

The Mechioo pack is three 1400 mm by 6.35 mm by 0.35 mm blades at 10 TPI, listed at £12.99 and sold as a metal-alloy loop for metal and wood. The bullets tell you to avoid overly hard metals, and stainless is not named as suitable. One bullet says pre-installed, while the included parts are the three loops themselves. The only review said they cut well while the saw was being set up, and that they had not been used beyond that. The star line is 5.0 from 1 review, and the origin cell says China. Ten teeth per inch can suit thinner wood on a 1400 mm bench saw. A one-line setup comment does not show a steel cut, so the metal wording stays a title claim.

Pros

  • Three blades at £12.99
  • 1400 mm, 6.35 mm, and 0.35 mm stated
  • 10 TPI for thinner wood
  • The only review covered a setup cut

Cons

  • One review, and only a setup cut
  • Metal-and-wood claim without a steel result
  • “Pre-installed” sits oddly on a spare pack
  • Hard metals are excluded in the bullets

Best for: A spare 10 TPI wood loop at 1400 mm, if you ignore the metal wording.

Less suitable: Stainless, structural steel, or a cordless metal saw.

Common questions

Does the listing prove it cuts stainless steel?

The page asks the question. The bullets say metal and wood, and they tell you to avoid overly hard metals. Stainless is not named as suitable.

Are the blades pre-fitted to a saw?

One bullet says pre-installed. Included components are the blades themselves, sold as a 3-pack of loops.

What did the only review say?

The reviewer fitted them, said they cut well while setting up, and had not used them beyond that. The listing shows 5.0 from 1 review.

TASP 1425 mm three-width set

Rank 5

TASP 1425 mm three-width set

∼£20

Our view

The TASP 1425 mm set is three carbon blades: 3.2 mm at 14 TPI, 6.35 mm at 6 TPI, and 10 mm at 6 TPI, at £19.99. Named machines include Delta 28-180 and 28-185, Draper BS250, Nutool, Fox, and Silverline, if they take a 1425 mm blade. That length is not the 1400 mm loop used by the Scheppach and Einhell bench saws in the other listings. The application bullet includes non-ferrous metals, while the compatible-material attribute says wood only. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.8 from 12 reviews, and the three comments in the raw file are from the United States. A 3.2 mm blade is the one for a tight curve, and the 10 mm blade is the one for a straighter cut. You are buying a width set for one length, and the written sample is not British.

Pros

  • Three widths at 1425 mm for £19.99
  • 4.8 from 12 reviews
  • A curve blade and straighter blades in one pack
  • Draper BS250 and other models named, if they take 1425 mm

Cons

  • Not a 1400 mm blade
  • The wood attribute and the non-ferrous bullet disagree
  • The written reviews in the file are from the United States
  • 12 reviews is still a small sample

Best for: A 1425 mm saw, and both curves and straight cuts in wood.

Less suitable: A 1400 mm bench saw, or a job in steel.

Xcalibur 1400 mm 6 mm 4 TPI

Rank 6

Xcalibur 1400 mm 6 mm 4 TPI

∼£14

Our view

This Xcalibur loop is 1400 mm by 6 mm at 4 TPI, priced at £14.35, for machines that need that size, including the Draper BS200A named in the bullets. Four teeth per inch is the coarse end of this shelf, which suits thicker timber better than the 10 TPI and 14 TPI packs, though the listing does not state a maximum thickness. One review said it was easy to fit and did the job. The star line is 4.7 from 5 reviews, and the display notes only that one written comment. The bullet says 0.6 mm thick while the listing attribute says 0.45 mm, and the weight cell says 450 g beside 50–140 g on the other Xcalibur loops. The seller text mentions 6, 10, 14, and 24 TPI as other options, not as this blade.

Pros

  • 4 TPI for thicker wood than a 10 or 14 TPI loop
  • 1400 mm by 6 mm, with Draper BS200A named
  • One review reported an easy fit
  • A welded joint is claimed

Cons

  • Only 5 reviews, and one written comment in the file
  • Thickness cells say 0.6 mm and 0.45 mm
  • Listed weight is 450 g
  • One blade, so there is no spare

Best for: A confirmed 1400 mm saw and thicker stock, where a finer pitch would pack the gullets.

Less suitable: Sheet goods, or a buyer who needs both thickness cells to agree.

Common questions

Is this the fine-tooth version?

This ASIN is the 4 TPI blade. The same seller text mentions 6, 10, 14, and 24 TPI as other options, not as this pack.

Will it fit every small bandsaw?

The bullet says it is for machines that need 1400 mm by 6 mm. It names Draper BS200A and several other models, and tells you to check the manual.

What did the UK review say?

One review said it was easy to fit and did the job. The listing shows 4.7 from 5 reviews, and the raw file has only that one comment.

AYAO 1400 mm 6 TPI two-pack

Rank 7

AYAO 1400 mm 6 TPI two-pack

∼£18

Our view

The AYAO pack is two 1400 mm by 6.5 mm by 0.4 mm high-carbon blades at 6 TPI, with a ground tooth and a raker set claimed, at £17.99. It is the only listing here with 4.5 from 500 reviews, and the feature bullets call it a wood-cutting blade rather than a metal blade. Named saws include Draper 13773, Charnwood 711, Scheppach HBS 20, Fox F28-182, and Einhell TC-SB 200/1, and reviews also mention Axminster and Aldi 1400 mm saws. Among the first reviews in the raw file, some blades snapped, including a weld that opened while the tie was undone, and some lost their edge quickly. Others report a long, straight cut. Six teeth per inch is the everyday wood pitch in the UK charts, so this is the pack to start with for mixed timber, not for thin sheet that wants 10 or 14 TPI. The review count is what separates it from the 5.0 listings that rest on one or two comments.

Pros

  • 4.5 from 500 reviews
  • Two 6 TPI wood blades at £17.99
  • Named UK bench saws on the listing
  • Ground tooth and a raker set claimed
  • Some reviewers report a long, straight cut

Cons

  • Some blades snapped, including a weld that opened
  • Some lost their edge quickly
  • The bullets do not claim metal
  • 6.5 mm is a poor match for a tight curve

Best for: Mixed wood on a named 1400 mm bench saw, with a spare blade in the pack.

Less suitable: A tight curve that needs a 3–6 mm blade, or any metal job.

Xiansini 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

Rank 8

Xiansini 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

Our view

The Xiansini pack is two 1400 mm by 6.35 mm carbon blades at 10 TPI, at £8.99, the lowest shelf price in this set. The title thickness is 0.35 mm and the attribute says 0.35 cm, so those cells do not agree. Several reviewers said the blades fitted and cut plywood. One said they were big for the advertised size and came off the wheel. Another set the guides close and felt a pulse once per revolution from a lumpy weld. The bullets name easy-to-machine carbon steel, and one reviewer wrote they would not cut carbon steel with these blades. The star line is 4.4 from 39 reviews. At this price you get a second blade, and you also get the weld and the size as the things to check before you tension the loop.

Pros

  • Lowest price in this set, £8.99 for two
  • 4.4 from 39 reviews
  • Plywood cuts reported by reviewers
  • 1400 mm and 10 TPI stated in the title

Cons

  • One blade came off the wheel
  • A lumpy weld was felt as a pulse
  • Thickness cells say 0.35 mm and 0.35 cm
  • A reviewer rejected them for carbon steel

Best for: A cheap 10 TPI spare for plywood, on a saw you have already measured at 1400 mm.

Less suitable: Steel, or a saw that notices a weld that pulses once per revolution.

Vidsmow 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

Rank 9

Vidsmow 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack

∼£11

Our view

The Vidsmow pack is two 1400 mm blades, 1/4 inch wide and 10 TPI, at £10.99, sold for most 8 inch wood bandsaws that take that size. The bullet does not say every 8 inch saw. The page asks about metal, and the bullets name wood, plastic, and acrylic. A plastic sleeve and an oil coat are claimed, and ground teeth are claimed. The listing shows 4.3 from 36 reviews. The thickness attribute says 0.25 inches, and a width attribute also says 0.6 cm beside the 1/4 inch title, so the table is not a clean gauge. A quarter-inch 10 TPI loop is a sheet and mild-curve spare, and it is the wrong pitch once the timber is thick enough to pack the gullets. Confirm 1400 mm in the manual before you trust the phrase “most 8 inch”.

Pros

  • Two blades at £10.99
  • A sleeve and an oil coat are claimed
  • Wood, plastic, and acrylic, without a steel claim in the bullets
  • 4.3 from 36 reviews

Cons

  • Not sold as a fit for every 8 inch saw
  • Thickness attribute says 0.25 inches
  • Width cells mix 1/4 inch and 0.6 cm
  • 10 TPI suits thin stock better than thick oak

Best for: Sheet, plastic, or a mild curve on a saw you have confirmed at 1400 mm.

Less suitable: A saw that is not 1400 mm, or a cut in steel.

TASP 1575 mm three-width set

Rank 10

TASP 1575 mm three-width set

∼£23

Our view

The TASP set is three 1575 mm carbon blades: 3.2 mm at 14 TPI, 6.35 mm at 6 TPI, and 10 mm at 6 TPI, at £22.99. That spread is useful when the manual asks for 1575 mm, because you get a narrow curve blade and two straighter 6 TPI blades in one order. The listing names Powertec BS900, WEN 3939T, Ryobi, Skil, Craftsman, and Grizzly models that need 1575 mm, and it tells you to confirm the size. It will not fit a 1400 mm bench saw of the Scheppach type. The star line is 4.2 from 14. In the raw file, one comment is from the United Kingdom and six are from the United States, so those notes are not a British workshop sample. One US comment said the narrow blade arrived broken and rusty. The bullets also mention non-ferrous metal.

Pros

  • Three widths at one 1575 mm length
  • A 14 TPI narrow blade plus two 6 TPI blades
  • Model names for saws that need 1575 mm
  • £22.99 for the set

Cons

  • Wrong length for a 1400 mm bench saw
  • Written comments are mostly from the United States
  • A US comment reported the narrow blade broken and rusty
  • The non-ferrous claim is not a UK cut in the file

Best for: A 1575 mm saw where you want a curve blade and a straighter blade together.

Less suitable: A 1400 mm UK bench saw, or a buyer treating US comments as local proof.

The listing score is 4.2 from 14. In the raw file, one comment is from the United Kingdom and six are from the United States. One US comment said the narrow blade arrived broken and rusty.

Xcalibur 1400 mm 14 TPI two-pack

Rank 11

Xcalibur 1400 mm 14 TPI two-pack

∼£25

Our view

This Xcalibur listing is two 1400 mm by 6.5 mm carbon blades at 14 TPI, described as ground regular tooth, at £24.99. The bullets aim them at clean cuts in softwood and hardwood and do not state a maximum thickness. The star line is 4.0 from 24 reviews. One UK reviewer received one blade instead of two, and that blade was rusty and blunt. Another said a 14 TPI blade dulled quickly in oak about 20 mm thick, which is thick enough that a coarser pitch usually clears the chips. A case is not listed, and there is no model list, so the fit check is 1400 mm rather than a brand name. You are paying more than several 6 TPI two-packs for a fine pitch that the oak comment already found too fine.

Pros

  • Two blades in the pack
  • 14 TPI ground regular tooth for thinner stock
  • 1400 mm, 6.5 mm, and 0.45 mm stated together
  • 24 reviews, more than the five-star singles

Cons

  • One review received a single rusty, blunt blade
  • Dulled quickly in oak about 20 mm thick
  • £24.99 for a fine pitch
  • No saw model list

Best for: Thin softwood, plywood, or plastic on a saw you have measured at 1400 mm.

Less suitable: Oak around 20 mm, or an order where both blades need to arrive sharp.

Starrett Univerz 733 mm 18 TPI

Rank 12

Starrett Univerz 733 mm 18 TPI

∼£30

Our view

The Starrett Univerz pack, model UNZ13A187333, is three blades at 733 mm by 13 mm by 0.35 mm and 18 TPI, listed at £29.99. The listing is for portable cordless saws, including Starrett S1005, Bosch GCB, and Hilti SB4-A22, and it will not fit a 1400 mm wood saw. The material line says an HSS edge and the cut attribute says metal. Screwfix lists the same part number as bi-metal for solid metal up to about 5 mm, at £26.99 including VAT. On amazon.co.uk the line is 3.9 from 17 reviews. One blade fitted a Starrett portable saw. Others reported a weld snap, teeth gone on M10 rod after about ten pieces, and teeth stripped on a second Unistrut cut. A case is not listed, and the reviews are about short life on small steel rather than about timber.

Pros

  • 733 mm, 18 TPI, three blades
  • Named cordless saws: Starrett S1005, Bosch GCB, Hilti SB4-A22
  • Sold as a metal blade, not a bench wood loop
  • One review fitted a Starrett portable saw

Cons

  • Will not fit a 1400 mm wood saw
  • A weld snap is reported
  • Teeth gone on M10 rod after about ten pieces
  • 3.9 from 17 reviews at £29.99

Best for: A named cordless metal saw and thin steel, with the short life in these reviews in mind.

Less suitable: Any bench wood saw, or a long run of rod and Unistrut.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk band saw blades were scored from the listings in this set. Shelf prices, stars and review counts are those listing lines. No laboratory cut was made. Stars contribute up to 40 points: the amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, times 40, rounded. The review sample contributes up to 25. Fit as a blade contributes up to 25. Value in this set contributes up to 10. The four weights sum to 100. If two scores tie, the higher amazon rating is the top pick, once. The highest value-part score that is not the top pick is best value, once. The AYAO 1400 mm 6 TPI two-pack scores 89 and is the top pick. The Xiansini 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack has the highest value part among the rest and is best value.

1

Stars

40%

The amazon.co.uk rating divided by 5, times 40, rounded. A 5.0 from one or two reviews is not treated as a cleaner cut than 4.5 from 500.

2

Review sample

25%

500 or more reviews score 25. 50 or more score 12. 20 or more score 8. 10 or more score 6. Fewer than 10 score 2. The cap is 25.

3

Fit as a blade

25%

Up to 25 points for a named length, a wood claim the reviews can support, and faults that are actually written down. A thickness cell that contradicts the title, a metal claim the reviews do not support, or a documented dulling or weld fault scores lower. A metal-and-wood title with one setup comment scores lower still.

4

Value in this set

10%

The cheapest two-pack with 20 or more reviews scores 9. A two-pack around £9 to £18 with a readable wood job scores 8. A three-width set or an unproven three-pack scores 6. A single mid-price loop scores 5. A dear pack whose reviews describe a short life, a missing blade, or no written comment scores 4.

Band saw blade buying guide

Choose the loop length in the manual, then the width, then teeth per inch, then carbon or bi-metal. A star line is not a laboratory cut, and a title that mentions steel is not a metal blade. Prices below are amazon.co.uk shelf prices from 19 October 2026.

What is a band saw blade?

A band saw blade is a toothed steel loop. On amazon.co.uk the same search mixes three different objects: bench wood blades around 1400–1575 mm, a longer workshop wood blade around 3380 mm, and a short loop around 733 mm for a cordless metal saw. You already own the saw. The loop has to match that machine, not a similar-looking throat. Length comes first. 1400 mm, about 55 1/8 inch, is the common UK bench size. 1425 mm and 1575 mm are different saws. 3380 mm and 733 mm are different again.

Best for

  • A 1400 mm bench saw and mixed timber, starting at 6 TPI with a spare blade
  • A confirmed 1425 mm or 1575 mm saw that needs a curve blade and a straighter blade

Not ideal for

  • Anyone ordering by an 8 inch label without the millimetre length in the manual
  • Stainless, structural steel, or a carbon blade whose title mentions metal

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Ordering by an 8 inch label

1400 mm, 1425 mm and 1575 mm are different loops. A listing that says most 8 inch saws is not a promise for every 8 inch saw. Read the manual in millimetres.

  2. 2

Using 14 TPI on thick oak

10–14 TPI is for thinner stock, plywood and plastic. A 14 TPI blade in this set was reported to dull quickly in oak about 20 mm thick. Coarser teeth clear a thicker cut.

  3. 3

Trusting a metal line on a carbon loop

A carbon bench blade whose title lists steel next to plywood is still a wood blade. Bi-metal at a fine pitch belongs on a slow metal saw or a cordless cutter. Leave the blade slack when the saw will sit idle.

What to weigh up

Length, width and teeth

High

Match the manual in millimetres before you compare prices. 1400 mm is the common UK bench loop. 1425 mm, 1575 mm, 3380 mm and 733 mm are other machines. Width in this set runs from about 3.2 mm to 13 mm. Wider tracks straighter. Narrower turns tighter. Seller radius charts do not agree, so treat them as guides. 6 TPI is the general wood pitch on one UK chart. 4 TPI suits thicker timber. 10–14 TPI suits thin sheet, plywood and plastic. A rule of thumb is at least three teeth in the cut.

Steel, pack and the weld

High

Carbon flex-back is the wood blade for a fast bench saw. Bi-metal, fine pitch, is the cordless or slow metal blade. A carbon title that says metal and wood is not evidence of a steel cut. Count the blades in the pack. Reviews here include a missing blade, rusty teeth, a lumpy weld and a weld that opened. Look at the joint before you tension the loop. Written comments on the two three-width sets are mostly from the United States. Do not read them as British workshop opinion.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

1400 mm bench, mixed wood

You own a bench saw whose manual says 1400 mm and you cut mixed timber, not thin sheet only. Start at 6 TPI, with a spare in the pack. The AYAO two-pack is about £17.99, with 4.5 from 500 reviews. Some reviews report a snapped weld. Skip it for a tight curve or any metal job.

Thin sheet, lowest price

You have already measured a 1400 mm saw and you want a 10 TPI spare for plywood. The Xiansini two-pack is about £8.99, with 4.4 from 39 reviews. Reviewers report plywood cuts, a lumpy weld and one blade that came off the wheel. Skip it for steel.

Cordless thin steel

You cut tube or small steel on a named cordless saw, not on a bench wood saw. The Starrett pack is 733 mm, 18 TPI, three blades, about £29.99, with 3.9 from 17 reviews. Reviews describe a weld snap and teeth gone after a short run. It will not fit a 1400 mm wood saw.

Common questions about band saw blades

Which band saw blade is the top pick in this set?
The top pick in this set is the AYAO 1400 mm 6 TPI two-pack, about £17.99, with 4.5 from 500 amazon.co.uk reviews. It is two high-carbon wood blades, 6.5 mm wide and 0.4 mm thick, with a ground tooth and a raker set claimed. The listing names several UK bench saws. Some reviews report a snapped weld, including one that opened while the tie was undone, and some blades lost their edge quickly. Others report a long, straight cut. The listing score is 89. No laboratory cut was made.
Which listing is the best value?
The best value is the Xiansini 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack at about £8.99, with 4.4 from 39 reviews. It is the lowest price here, and the highest value part after the top pick. Several reviewers said the blades fitted and cut plywood. One said a blade came off the wheel. Another felt a pulse from a lumpy weld. The thickness cells do not agree. One reviewer would not cut carbon steel with these blades.
How do you choose the loop length?
Read the manual in millimetres. About 1400 mm is a common UK bench loop. 1425 mm and 1575 mm are different saws. A 3380 mm blade is a larger wood saw. A 733 mm blade is for a cordless metal saw and will not fit a bench wood saw. An 8 inch label is not a guarantee: one listing says most 8 inch saws, not all of them. A 13 mm blade tracks straighter and will not turn a tight curve.
Which teeth per inch suit wood?
6 TPI is the general wood pitch on one UK chart: crosscutting up to about 150 mm and ripping up to about 50 mm. Another chart suggests about 8 TPI at 6–12 mm, 6 TPI at 12–20 mm, and 4 TPI at 20–30 mm. 10–14 TPI suits thinner stock, plywood and plastic. Keep at least three teeth in the cut. A 14 TPI blade here dulled quickly in oak about 20 mm thick. These bands are seller guides, not a laboratory cut.
Can a band saw blade cut metal?
Only when the saw and the blade are the metal pair. Carbon loops here are wood blades, even when a title also says metal. The short pack is 733 mm at 18 TPI for named cordless saws, and reviews describe a short life on small steel. Do not put that loop on a 1400 mm wood saw. A tight internal cut in thin sheet is a different machine. See the scroll saw blade comparison.
What should you check on the weld and the pack?
Count the blades before you fit one. Reviews here include a two-pack that arrived as one rusty blade, a weld that opened, and a lumpy weld felt as a pulse. A second blade is the point of a two-pack. If the joint looks open, or the blade clicks once tensioned, do not run it. A click can mean a cracked blade. Isolate the saw and follow the manual. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers a pack that is not as described.
What safety rules apply in the UK?
If the saw is work equipment, PUWER 1998 applies. The Health and Safety Executive sheet on woodworking bandsaws covers the correct blade, tension, tracking, enclosed pulleys, the top guard down to the work, a guard under the table, and a push stick for a narrow cut. Over-braking can snap the loop. Home hobby use still follows the manual. Isolate the power before a change. Teeth on a vertical saw point downward at the front. Slack the blade if the saw will sit idle.
What should you not treat as proof?
Do not call any listing the best blade in Britain. No laboratory cut was made. Do not say a blade fits every 8 inch bandsaw. Do not treat an item-thickness field as the gauge when it conflicts with the title. Several listings store a bad unit in that field. Do not read United States comments on the three-width sets as British workshop opinion. The star line is the amazon.co.uk figure. A bi-metal life claim from a blade maker is their statement, not a measured result for these packs.

Our verdict

In this set the top pick is the AYAO 1400 mm 6 TPI two-pack. It scores 89, at about £17.99, with 4.5 from 500 amazon.co.uk reviews, two high-carbon wood blades and named 1400 mm bench saws. Some reviews report a snapped weld and a quick loss of edge. The best value is the Xiansini 1400 mm 10 TPI two-pack at about £8.99, with 4.4 from 39 reviews. Reviewers report plywood cuts, and also a lumpy weld and a blade that came off the wheel. Neither result is a laboratory cut. Match the loop length in the manual before either pack.
