254 mm x 30 mm circular saw blade: the order of checks

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already own the saw, and the replacement is in the basket. A 254 mm x 30 mm circular saw blade earns that description only if the manual allows 254 mm and the arbor is 30 mm, or a ring steps the bore down. Then you need kerf and plate as two numbers, a tooth count, and a printed speed if the listing has one. Stars come last. Prices below are from eight amazon.co.uk listings on 20 October 2026, from £10.52 to £27.40. This is not a lab test. Diameter the saw allows

The model name is not the diameter. Einhell's TC-TS 254 U manual specifies 254 x 30 x 2.4 mm. Axminster's AP254TS manual allows a maximum of 250 mm and a 30 mm arbor, even though the model name says 254. A 254 mm blade does not fit that saw. Use the manual, not the badge on the cabinet. A 250 mm blade and a 255 mm blade were dropped because four millimetres changes the guard, the insert and the knife height. Once the diameter matches, the eight listings here all state 254 mm and a 30 mm bore. That is the start of the fit, not the end of it.

Bore and the ring

A 30 mm bore fits a 30 mm arbor with no ring. Any other arbor needs a ring that matches it and stays thinner than the plate. Saxton includes 16 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm. Starrett includes 16 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm. BGS states only 30 mm to 25 mm. METAK states 25.4 mm. Trend and BATIOPV state no rings. A 25 mm ring is not a 25.4 mm arbor. Saxton sells those as separate parts, and half a millimetre of slop lets the blade sit off centre. A 1 inch arbor wants the METAK adaptor. A 20 mm arbor is Saxton, not Starrett. A 19 mm arbor is the reverse. The ring must not stand proud of the plate.

Kerf, plate and one thickness field

The riving knife has to be thicker than the plate and thinner than the kerf. One figure on the title cannot tell you both. The distances are on the riving knife page. Saxton TCT25480T is the only card that prints both: plate 1.8 mm and kerf 2.6 mm, so Einhell's 2.0 mm splitter sits between them. The other Saxton cards print a 2.6 mm kerf and leave the plate blank. Trend prints a 2.4 mm kerf and no plate. Maker pages that add a plate do not fill a blank amazon field. BGS puts 3.2 mm in the title and 1.8 mm and 2.8 mm in the bullets. Starrett's thickness field says 30 mm, the bore copied into the wrong box, while a bullet calls 2 mm both thickness and kerf. METAK prints neither.

Teeth, speed and the conflicts to read first

Tooth count comes next: about 24 teeth for a fast rip, about 40 to 60 for mixed work, about 80 for sheet goods. BS EN 847-1:2017 expects the maker, the maximum speed, and diameter, cutting width and bore on the blade. Only BGS prints a maximum speed, 5,500 rpm, and BATIOPV prints 4,500 rpm. Einhell idles at 4,250 rpm. A blank speed line is a gap, not a promise. Read conflicts before the stars. The BGS details field says Metal, and the bullets do not describe steel. MPA on that card is not a British Standard. BATIOPV's model is HCS20.3T and the part number is HCS254-EU. A 5.0 from two reviews does not outrank 4.8 from 75. Who should skip each listing is the best 254 mm circular saw blade page.

Common questions

Is a saw called 254 the same as a 254 mm blade?
Not always. Einhell's TC-TS 254 U is specified as 254 x 30 x 2.4 mm, so the name and the blade agree. Axminster's AP254TS manual caps the blade at 250 mm even though the model name says 254. Read the maximum diameter in the manual before you treat the badge on the cabinet as the order size.
Is a 25 mm ring the same as a 25.4 mm arbor?
No. A 25.4 mm arbor is a 1 inch arbor. Saxton sells a 30-to-25 mm ring and a 30-to-25.4 mm ring as separate parts. In this set the METAK listing states a 25.4 mm adaptor. Rings marked 25 mm are for a 25 mm arbor. Half a millimetre of clearance lets the blade sit off centre.
What if the thickness field says 30 mm?
On the Starrett CCS254-60DW the item-thickness field says 30 mm and the bore is also 30 mm. A bullet calls blade thickness and kerf 2 mm. The 30 mm figure is the bore copied into the wrong box. Do not use it as the plate when you check the riving knife.
Which listings print a maximum speed?
Only two. BGS 3954 prints 5,500 rpm, and the BATIOPV listing prints 4,500 rpm. The Saxton blades, the Trend, the Starrett and the METAK do not print a maximum speed in the files read on 20 October 2026. Einhell's idle speed of 4,250 rpm is a fact about that saw, not a mark on the blade.
Can the BGS Metal field or the METAK steel line be treated as a steel-cutting blade?
No. The BGS details field says Metal, and the bullets do not describe iron or steel. A review from outside the United Kingdom expected iron and the blade did not cut it. METAK names mild steel, and UK reviews include an edge lost after one thin metal cut and wander above 38 mm. Neither line is a safe steel-cutting claim.
