Circular saw guide rail buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have plywood against the garage wall, or a worktop that needs one clean crosscut, and the saw wanders off the pencil line. This circular saw guide rail buying guide covers the rail type your saw can use, the length of the cut, and what the box line actually lists. The five amazon.co.uk listings sit on the [circular saw guide rail comparison](/hub/saw-accessories/circular-saw-guide-rail), from about £23.99 to about £90.27. Listings were checked on 15 October 2026, with no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two different rails share this search

Search for a circular saw guide rail on amazon.co.uk and two tools share the name. A grooved track has a raised rib that a plunge saw, or a matching circular saw, slides along. The Evolution ST1400-G2, the ST2800-G2 and the Einhell 2 x 1000 mm rail are tracks. A clamp edge, such as the BORA NGX, is a straight bar. You run the shoe against its edge. A track holds the saw, and a splinter strip can be trimmed to the kerf. The BORA included line lists the clamp edge only, with no strip. The Divove guide is also titled as a caliper, and the table does not state a length. The track rail vs clamp edge page stays on that choice.

Length before brand

The rail has to be longer than the cut, so the saw can start before the blade enters and finish after it leaves. BuildWiz UK's rule of thumb is roughly 100 mm of run-on at each end. That is one site's figure, not a British Standard. About 1.4 m of rail leaves roughly 1.2 m of cut: most worktops and the 1,220 mm side of a sheet. A full rip needs about 2.7 to 2.8 m. The Einhell joins to 2 m, still short of 2,440 mm in UK reviews. The BORA is stated at 2,438 mm. Only the ST2800-G2 is titled at 2.8 m. Full sheets are on the guide rail for 8x4 sheets page.

Fit is a model check, not a slogan

On a track, universal means a range of bases may sit on the rib, not that yours will. The Evolution G2 bullets name Festool, Titan, Makita, Bosch, Triton, Erbauer, Metabo, Scheppach and Evolution saws with an X in the name. UK reviews name a Bosch GKS 190 and a Bosch UniversalCirc 18V-53 that did not fit, an Erbauer track-lock knob that did not catch, and a Makita that was not held on a bevel. Check the model before you order. Einhell names an Einhell plunge saw or an Expert handheld circular saw. A clamp edge only needs a flat shoe, so a saw that misses the Evolution rib can still run along a BORA, with a bare edge and no splinter strip.

Read the box line, not the saw fields

Several amazon.co.uk pages reuse a saw template. Voltage, wattage and tooth-count cells describe a saw, not the rail. Use the stated length and the included-components line. The Evolution kits list two tracks, two connector bars, two clamps and a bag. The Einhell line says only 2 x 1000 mm guide rail. The BORA lists one clamp edge. Divove lists the guide. The BORA dimensions cell of 29 x 12 x 10 cm clashes with 96 in. The ST1400-G2 is 3.8 kg on amazon.co.uk and 3.2 kg on Toolstation.

Common questions

What length of guide rail do I need for a kitchen worktop?
A rail of about 1.4 m covers most worktop crosscuts. BuildWiz UK's rule of thumb is roughly 100 mm of run-on at each end, which leaves about 1.2 m of usable cut on a 1.4 m rail. A longer rail works too, but it is heavier to carry and harder to position on a short board.
Will a universal guide rail fit my Bosch or DeWalt circular saw?
Not necessarily. A universal claim means the maker expects a range of bases to sit on the rib. UK reviews report specific Bosch models that did not fit an Evolution track, and one review says the Divove guide does not fit DeWalt. Check your exact model, or choose a clamp edge, which only needs a flat shoe.
Should I ignore the voltage and tooth-count cells on a rail listing?
Yes. Several amazon.co.uk guide rail listings reuse a saw template, so voltage, wattage, battery and tooth count describe a saw, not the rail. Decide from the stated length, the material, the weight and the included-components line, which shows whether clamps, connectors and a bag are in the box.
Is a higher star rating a sign of a better rail?
Not on its own. The Divove guide has the highest star line here at 4.4 from 27 reviews, yet the specification table does not state a length and one UK review returned it as too short. A rating describes the item buyers received. It does not say the rail is long enough for your cut.
What can I do if clamps or connectors are missing from the box?
If the included-components line names a part that did not arrive, the goods do not match their description. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you can ask the seller for a repair, replacement or refund, and Which? explains the 30-day short-term right to reject. Photograph the contents and the box line before you contact the seller.
