Burglar protection

Updated: 16 October 2026Hub page

Burglar protection covers video door intercoms, winter safety shoes, bike alarm, glass break detector, motion sensor outdoor battery and water leak alarm, and the other product types on the cards below. Each comparison says what that product is for, and which checks still apply when the listings change.

The cards are the way in. A comparison holds the current listings, including who makes them and what they cost, because both move.

Common questions about burglar protection

What is a video door intercom?
A video door intercom is an outdoor camera station, a call button, two-way audio and at least one indoor screen. You buy it to see and speak to a caller without a phone as the only handset. Nine amazon.co.uk listings run from about £58.99 to about £207.99. They differ by 2-wire, 4-wire or radio, by whether the screen stays on charge, and by whether unlock includes a lock. Listings were read on 15 October 2026. Products Compared did not fit the stations and did not run a lab test.
What is a wireless video door intercom?
A wireless video door intercom puts a camera and a speaker at the door and a screen indoors, linked by radio. You either buy a private-radio kit with no app, or a Wi-Fi kit that also calls a phone. Seven amazon.co.uk listings run from £52.99 to £207.99. Judge a kit by the indoor screen, how it records, and whether the link still works through your walls. If the lens films the pavement or a neighbour, UK data protection rules apply to you.
What is a wireless doorbell without a battery?
A wireless doorbell without a battery is a kinetic bell push. The press makes a short pulse, so the outdoor button does not take a coin cell. In each of the three amazon.co.uk kits the indoor chime plugs into a mains socket. The button is battery-free and the sounder is not. A coin cell or a camera is a different product. All three listings claim up to 400 m. Other UK kinetic makers publish about 30–40 m through walls. Those figures are listing claims, not a lab test.
Does a Wi-Fi water leak alarm shut the water off?
A Wi-Fi water leak alarm is a battery contact sensor that warns you when water reaches its probes or a short cable, then tries to reach your phone. A siren in an empty house is not an alert. None of the seven amazon.co.uk listings closes the stopcock. A sound unit joins 2.4 GHz itself or includes the base. Shelf prices on 15 October 2026 run from about £13.59 to about £59.99. Products Compared did not wet-test these sensors.
What does a wireless alarm system on this hub do?
A wireless alarm system is a burglar alarm whose sensors talk to a panel by radio. The kits on this hub are self-fitted. They sound a siren, send a phone alert, or auto-dial numbers you store. None of them is a police Unique Reference Number system. Ask the police (Q75) says forces attend NPCC-compliant alarms, and that most domestic alarms are audible only. Ten listings run from about £53.19 to about £309.99.
How do a window alarm and a window lock differ?
A window alarm is usually a vibration puck on the glass, or a magnetic contact that sounds when the window or door opens. It is a local deterrent, not a monitored burglar alarm. Eight listings run from about £12.74 to about £27.97. A window lock here is a second device on a sash that already locks through the espag handle: a keyed cable restrictor, a surface timber latch, or a hook catch. Nine listings run from about £5.99 to about £20.98. A screw-on cable is not a PAS 24 window.
What do the women's safety shoe comparisons cover?
Women's S1 safety shoes are low-cut trainers with a protective toecap for dry indoor work. Under BS EN ISO 20345:2022, S1 does not include a puncture-resistant midsole or a waterproof upper. Nine listings run from about £25.49 to about £39.99, and none prints S1 in the product details. Women's S1P safety shoes add that puncture sole across ten listings in the same price band, and S1P is not waterproof. Women's safety sandals are two Portwest listings with a protective toecap.
What counts as a winter safety shoe or a Zosi camera here?
A winter safety shoe is protective footwear for cold ground: a toe defence, a warm lining or a cold mark, and a sole meant to grip when it is wet. Seven listings cost £17.99 to £45.99, and none states EN ISO 20345, S3, CI, WR, or a joule rating. A Zosi security camera is budget home CCTV from Ansjer Electronics: a wired add-on, a plug-in Wi-Fi camera, or a DVR kit. Twelve listings run from about £17.99 to about £275.49. Stars between 3.8 and 4.4 are not a lab score.
