Women's S1P safety shoes buying guide

Updated: 16 October 2026

You have a site note that says S1P, and an amazon.co.uk search that treats every black trainer with a hard toe as the same product. This women's S1P safety shoes buying guide puts the questions in the order that decides the purchase: the class your workplace named, the code on the shoe, the slip mark, and whether the last suits a narrower heel. The ten listings we kept are on the [women's S1P safety shoes comparison](/hub/burglar-protection/women-s-s1p-safety-shoes). This page is from the Products Compared editorial team, using those amazon.co.uk listings and public UK sources. We did not run a laboratory test. A qualifying purchase through our Amazon links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What S1P is asking the shoe to do

S1P is S1 plus a penetration-resistant midsole under EN ISO 20345. Many pairs in Britain are still marked to the 2011 edition. UK retailers often summarise the midsole test as 1,100 newtons. The 2022 edition splits that insert into P, PL and PS, and S1PL and S1PS stay dry-floor classes. Antistatic is not electrical insulation. Six of the ten trainers here leave the midsole unstated. Wet yards and S3, S3S, S6 or S7 are on the S1P versus S3 page.

What the listing must show

Check the class, the year of the standard, and a UKCA or CE mark with a declaration of conformity and instructions in English. Northern Ireland has a separate placing-on-the-market note. Stars are not the risk assessment. The Black Hammer Betsy, model 9006, is the only kept title that states women’s S1P SRC, at £36.90 with 4.2 stars from 84 reviews on 15 October 2026. Water-resistant on that title is not S2, S3 or WR. Who each listing is for is on the best women’s S1P safety trainers page.

A women’s last is a shape

A women’s last is a narrower heel relative to the forefoot. Rock Fall describes it that way. A smaller men’s shoe in a colour sold as for her is a different object. If the heel lifts, the foot can slide back from under the toecap. Men and women in an Amazon title is often that men’s shape. The department line is the quicker check: Women’s, Unisex, or Men’s.

Price comes last

On 15 October 2026 the entry band was about £25–£35. The mid band, about £36–£55, covers the Betsy header of £36.90, and a same-day snippet showed £43.95. Amblers Sophie at £42.90 and Black Hammer Mary at £44.99 are not rows here. If the assessment requires safety footwear, the 1992 PPE regulations, amended by SI 2022/8, require it free of charge, including for limb (b) workers from 6 April 2022. A private pair still has to match the named class.

Common questions

What does S1P include that S1 does not?
S1 already covers a 200 joule toecap, a closed heel, antistatic behaviour, an energy-absorbing heel and a fuel-oil resistant outsole. S1P adds a penetration-resistant midsole. Under the 2022 edition that midsole can be marked P, PL or PS, depending on whether the insert is metal and which nail diameter was used. A shoe marked only S1 has left the midsole out. If your site named S1P, an S1 trainer is a different product, even when the photos look alike.
Is SRC the same as the 2022 SR mark?
SRC belongs to the 2011 edition and was the mark for slip testing on both laboratory floors used then. SR is the optional extra mark in BS EN ISO 20345:2022, which retires SRC and starts from a basic slip test. A 2011 shoe that still says SRC has not been automatically withdrawn. A title that only says non-slip has shown neither code. HSE’s slip guidance explains what those laboratory floors represent, and where your own floor can differ.
Does a steel-toe title mean the shoe is S1P?
A steel-toe title states a toecap and usually omits the standard and the year. S1P also needs the rest of the S1 package and a penetration-resistant midsole. In the ten listings compared here, six state a steel toe and neither S1P nor a puncture claim. Three say puncture proof and still omit the class code. Only the Black Hammer Betsy title states S1P SRC.
What should I see besides the Amazon title?
Look for the class code, the standard and year, and a UKCA or CE mark. PPE on the GB market is also expected to come with a declaration of conformity and instructions in English, which is the paperwork HSE describes. Customer questions under the description are questions, not specifications. If the details block is silent on a midsole, treat the midsole as n/a until the shoe or the declaration says otherwise.
Is a women’s colourway a women’s last?
Colour and a for-women line describe the listing. A women’s last describes the heel relative to the forefoot, which Rock Fall treats as a narrower heel shape. A unisex or men’s-department trainer can feel fine at the toes and still slip at a narrower heel. Check the department field on the comparison, then that brand’s own chart, before you treat the colour as a fit.
Who pays if work requires the shoes?
When the risk assessment finds that safety footwear is required, the employer provides suitable PPE free of charge under the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, as amended in 2022, including limb (b) workers from 6 April 2022. Buying your own pair does not cancel that duty, and the pair still has to match the class the assessment named.
When should I look at S3 instead?
Look at S3 when water is part of the job. S1P has no water-resistant upper, and the words water-resistant on a trainer title do not create an S3 or WR mark. S3 adds water resistance in the upper and a cleated outsole. A dry warehouse with a real risk from nails can stay with S1P. A wet dock needs the other class.
