Fingerprint padlock for a shed

Updated: 20.10.2026

You would rather not cut another key for the neighbour who waters the plants. A fingerprint padlock for a shed is only worth that if the door can hold the lock and you can still get in when the pad is wet. None of these nine listings shows Sold Secure or BS EN 12320. The [fingerprint padlock comparison](/hub/burglar-protection/padlock-fingerprint) lists them from 19 October 2026. We read the listings, the UK review notes on file, and guidance from ProtectUK, Secured by Design and Sold Secure. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two hasps, not one clever lock

ProtectUK starts with the door, not the gadget. A shed door should carry two hasps, with closed or shrouded shackles, and the hinges should use security screws. Lock guidance points padlocks on hasps at BS EN 12320 or an equivalent, and prefers a concealed shackle. Secured by Design wants coach bolts or clutch-head screws, and the tools that could lever those fixings locked away. The screws are the lock. That layout is not a claim that any fingerprint body here meets a grade. If the timber is thin or the insurer has named a grade, use a locksmith or a graded mechanical padlock. The job before the model is on the fingerprint padlock buying guide.

Which listings are shed-shaped

Even the heavier locks need a key and a plan for a dry sensor. The Pebble is 349 g at £59.95, with IP65, two keys and 4.2 from 765 reviews. Its table lists an 8 mm shackle hole, under Insight Security’s 11 mm rule of thumb for the lowest insurance grades. The Pebble Plus is 295 g with a key and an app. The P15 is 658 g, with four keys, a warning not to immerse it, and five reviews. The TenixLox claims IP66, and 2.9 from eight reviews includes a report that any finger opened it. Leave the 40 g HS0480, the cable lock and the 0.4 cm P8BF off a garden staple. Who each listing is for is on the best fingerprint padlock page.

IP65 is rain jets, not a wet finger

Clarion describes IP65 as dust-tight and protected against low-pressure water jets. It is not immersion, and it says nothing about a wet fingertip. The Pebble and the Pebble Plus claim IP65. The TenixLox claims IP66. The P15 says not to immerse it. A title that only says waterproof, as on the P6BF, is a weaker claim, and that lock is not a shed body. The Pebble table lists −20 °C to 60 °C. That is the seller’s claim, not a test we ran. If the pad is wet, use the backup key, kept in the house, or wake the lock and use the app while you stand next to it. Enrolment and that wake step are on how to set up a fingerprint padlock.

If the policy names a grade, leave this set

ProtectUK points buyers at BS EN 12320 or an equivalent. Sold Secure runs from Bronze to Diamond, and the 2025 catalogue maps those names onto CEN grades 3 to 6. Some policies say nothing about the lock. Some name a Sold Secure level or a CEN grade. If yours names a grade, none of these nine listings shows that mark, so buy the graded mechanical padlock the wording describes. ASTM Grade 3 on the Prezlock pages, with a stated pull over 453 kg, is a US claim. Do not file it as CEN grade 3 or as Sold Secure Bronze.

If you still want that trade-off

Use the comparison for the Pebble or the Pebble Plus, keep the key off the shed, and treat TenixLox’s review file as too rough for IP66 to carry the decision. The P15 is the heavy multi-way lock only if you can live with five reviews and a warning not to immerse it. If the hasp is only screwed from outside, or the door is too thin for coach bolts, the next call is a locksmith, not another sensor.

Common questions

Will a fingerprint padlock work on a garden shed in winter?
IP65 is low-pressure jets on the housing, not a promise that a cold wet finger will read. The Pebble table lists −20 °C to 60 °C, which is the seller’s claim. Use the key when the pad is wet.
Is IP65 enough for a shed?
IP65 describes rain jets on a dust-tight case. It does not make the lock an outdoor security product. The Pebble and the Pebble Plus claim it. If the policy names a grade, the IP line does not replace it.
Does my insurer accept a fingerprint padlock?
Read the schedule. ProtectUK’s frame is BS EN 12320 or an equivalent, and Sold Secure maps Bronze through Diamond to CEN grades 3 to 6. None of these listings shows those marks. If the policy names a grade, buy that graded mechanical lock instead.
What is ASTM Grade 3 worth on a UK shed?
It is a US listing claim on the Prezlock pages, with a stated pull over 453 kg. It is not BS EN 12320 grade 3 and it is not Sold Secure. You cannot send ASTM Grade 3 to an insurer as if it were the grade on the schedule.
Which of these listings is even a shed lock?
Start with the Pebble and the Pebble Plus. The P15 is the heavy lock only if you can live with five reviews and a warning not to immerse it. Leave the 40 g HS0480, the cable lock and the 4 mm P8BF for bags and lockers.
What if my fingers are cold or wet at the gate?
Dry the finger and the pad, or use the mechanical key, stored in the house. An app still needs you beside the lock, and it may need a touch on the sensor before the phone can open it.
