Rechargeable or battery motion sensor light

Updated: 20.10.2026

You have chosen a puck or a bar, and the basket now offers a USB pack beside a unit that takes AA or AAA cells. A rechargeable or battery motion sensor light is that choice, and the day-count on the box is the part that misleads. The [motion sensor battery comparison](/hub/burglar-protection/motion-sensor-battery) lists the prices. This page does not crown a best model. It says when to pick a built-in cell, when to pick replaceable cells, and why 120 days collapses if the duty cycle is not yours. Alkaline here includes AA and AAA. Two power types in this set

USB, in this folder, means the BLS T61, the Oumida puck, the RAWNICE 003, the Demlaies N100 and the generic 20 cm bar. You unclip them and charge. Stated capacities are 1,800 mAh on the BLS, 600 mAh on the Oumida and 8,000 mAh on the RAWNICE. Demlaies and the generic bar do not state milliamp hours. Replaceable cells cover both AmmToo packs, the STAR-SPANGLED bars and 3.1 inch puck, the Detake and the Auraglow. Those cells are not in the box. The AmmToo eight-pack (B0B28VC6ZN, £18.04) looks rechargeable and is not: the power line says rechargeable, and the bullets still specify three AAA cells. A 600 mAh puck and an 8,000 mAh panel can both disappoint if the mode is wrong.

What the day-counts assume

The BLS claim is the clearest inside the folder: up to 120 days at 10 uses a day for 20 seconds, on the 1,800 mAh cell. Light use lasted weeks in reviews. Hours of use meant charging after a few days. Xiaomi’s UK page and IKEA’s GÖMPYSSLING, outside this set, publish a trigger count with the day figure. They are not rows in our table. Demlaies’ up to 180 days from a two-hour charge has no triggers and no milliamp hours, and at least one unit would not charge. RAWNICE splits its claim: 6–10 hours always on, or 30–60 days sensing, on 8,000 mAh.

When cells die in days

Daylight mode is the drain that turns a month into a few days. AmmToo reviews describe units that turn on in daylight and flatten AAA cells in about a month. That is a sensor that never sleeps, not a weak cell. On the Detake, one household changed the single AA every three or four days, and a rechargeable AA lasted about two weeks. There is no low-battery indicator. NiMH AAs belong only in a unit built for loose cells, such as the Detake or a STAR-SPANGLED AA puck. On IKEA’s cupboard light, a different fitting, NiMH looked dimmer than alkaline. Do not copy that onto the BLS, which has no AA slot. A socket night light is the honest answer where a BS 1363 socket is already on the route.

Which to buy, with one condition

Pick USB if you will unclip the light and the place is easy to reach. Pick replaceable cells if the light is awkward to take down and you will keep spares. The STAR-SPANGLED 3.1 inch puck and the Auraglow are the cell lights with the cleaner jobs in the reviews. The condition on both is the mode. A USB bar in day-and-night auto needs the cable long before 120 days. Set night-only, test it in daylight, then close the cover. Aim is on how to fit a battery motion sensor light. GOV.UK asks you to recycle portable batteries at a shop or a household waste centre. A sealed-in cell means the whole lamp is electrical waste. Shape is on the buying guide, and the job match is on best battery motion sensor light.

Common questions

Which lasts longer, a USB puck or AAA?
Whichever matches your use, not the larger milliamp-hour number. The BLS states 1,800 mAh and 120 days only at 10 uses of 20 seconds. Oumida states 600 mAh without a day-count the reviews have checked. AAA cells in an AmmToo that triggers all day were flat in about a month in one update.
Why did a 120-day light need charging in week three?
The BLS line assumes about 10 triggers a day for 20 seconds. Leaving the bar on for hours, or using day-and-night mode, spends that in days. Light-use reviews reported weeks. Heavy-use reviews charged sooner. Week three means heavier use than the test, or a cell that is not holding the claim. Those are different faults.
Are the batteries included?
Not on the AA and AAA listings. You buy three AAA for AmmToo, the 7 inch STAR-SPANGLED and the Auraglow, three AA for the 3.1 inch and 11 inch lights, and one AA for the Detake. USB models include a built-in cell. The eight-pack’s rechargeable wording does not replace its AAA bullets.
Can I use rechargeable AA cells in a Detake or STAR-SPANGLED unit?
AA-sized rechargeable cells fit the Detake and the STAR-SPANGLED 3.1 inch and 11 inch lights. The 7 inch bar and the Auraglow take AAA, not AA. On IKEA’s cupboard light, a different product, NiMH looked dimmer than alkaline. Check your own unit rather than assuming every PIR light behaves the same.
What is the always-on runtime on the RAWNICE panel?
The listing claims 6–10 hours always on, and 30–60 days in sensor mode, from 8,000 mAh after about four hours of charging. Always-on is the relevant band if the light must stay lit while someone stands still. One review reported a long shed charge, and another a poor battery after a few weeks.
Is the AmmToo eight-pack rechargeable?
The power line says rechargeable. The bullets say three AAA cells, not included, at about 0.5 W. The reviews do not show a built-in USB cell. Treat it as the same replaceable-cell family as the four-pack, which shares the 6,959 review count. For USB, look at BLS, Oumida, RAWNICE or Demlaies.
How do I throw a sealed pack away?
A loose AA or AAA goes to a shop battery point or a household waste centre. A lamp with a sealed cell is electrical waste as a whole unit. Tape exposed lithium terminals. Do not put either in the household rubbish.
