Ring Alarm vs Yale

Updated: 20.10.2026

You already have the shortlist down to two names, and the monthly fee is the part the listings do not agree on. Ring Alarm vs Yale, in the kits captured on amazon.co.uk, is a choice about the outside siren, the assistant you already use, and what a plan buys on the day you check out. Yale's two cartons in this set both include an external siren. Only two of the five Ring packs do. Peter F. used those listings and the brands' UK pages, not a lab test. What is actually in the box

Yale IA-320 is a mains kit at about £199.04: one contact, two PIRs, a keypad and an external siren, at 4.3 from 1,766 reviews. It claims up to 40 devices and 200 m, and it names Alexa, Google Assistant and Philips Hue. Yale HSA Essentials is the battery kit at about £81.88: two PIRs, one door contact and an external siren rated at 104 dB, at 4.4 from 997 reviews. The bullets say there are no monitoring fees. Both start with a single contact, so a second door is an extra sensor. Ring's five packs have no star line on the listings we checked. The outdoor siren is in the L siren pack and in Pack XL, and the L siren runs on batteries until it is wired. Whether that box belongs on a flat is on burglar alarm for a flat UK.

Phone, Alexa and Google

Yale's UK page describes Sync as the app alarm, with Alexa, Google Home and Philips Hue, and no monthly fee on that range. HSA does not copy that assistant list. Ring's listings name Alexa, not Google Assistant, and they tie app or Alexa arming to a subscription. A Ring doorbell and a Yale alarm will not share one arming screen.

The fee

The amazon listings say a subscription is required for app or Alexa arming, Alarm Calls and cellular backup. Ring's UK plans page lists Solo at £4.99, Multi at £7.99, Pro at £15.99 and Guard Response at £29.99 a month. A footnote says a subscription is required for digital arming and some in-app features. Check the listing and the plan page on the day. Yale's Sync app tier has no monthly fee. Paid rows are cellular backup at £5, Secure at £9 and Secure Pro at £36, while a separate page says £29. Do not average those figures, and do not paste the £5 plan onto HSA. Guard Response at £29.99 is an exterior check, not a police unique reference number. What the fee is buying is on the wireless home alarm system UK page.

When the broadband fails

Yale's Sync FAQ says the hub and the sensors still run without internet, and the app does not. IA-320 is a mains hub, so a power cut is a separate failure from a broadband drop, and no GSM path is stated. HSA runs on the included batteries and still has no stated mobile path. Ring's alarm page states a backup battery of up to 24 hours, which is the maker's claim. Cellular backup when the router is down sits on the paid plan. Choose Yale when the outside siren has to be in the first box and a stated no-fee app matters. Choose Ring when a doorbell and Alexa are already in the house and you have read the plan. Neither path calls the police.

Common questions

Which one has no monthly fee?
Yale's HSA listing says there is no monitoring fee and no contract. Yale's Sync pages say the app tier has no monthly fee. Ring's captured listings require a subscription for app or Alexa arming, and the plans page starts at £4.99 a month. Check both on the day you buy.
Does Ring work with Google Assistant?
Not on the evidence in this set. The Ring listings name Alexa for arming, and they tie that arming to a subscription. They do not name Google Assistant. Yale's Sync page names Alexa, Google Home and Philips Hue, and the IA-320 listing repeats that list. If you already use Google speakers, that is a point for Sync. HSA does not inherit the Sync assistant list, because it is a different kit.
Does Yale include the outside siren?
Both Yale kits in this comparison do. IA-320 and HSA each include an external siren with one contact and two PIRs. Ring includes an outdoor siren only on the L pack sold with that siren and on Pack XL. Pack S, Pack M and the plain Pack L use the base station.
What do I get for a Ring plan?
Ring's plans page lists Solo at £4.99, Multi at £7.99, Pro at £15.99 and Guard Response at £29.99 a month. The captured listings tie app or Alexa arming, Alarm Calls and cellular backup to a subscription sold separately. You are not buying a police URN.
Is Guard Response the police?
No. Guard Response is £29.99 a month on Ring's plans page, and Ring describes an exterior check that does not enter the home and does not detain anyone. It is not a unique reference number. The National Security Inspectorate's position is that these amazon kits are not a URN by themselves. A neighbour who hears the siren may still call 999. The plan has not arranged that call.
Which Yale is the battery one?
HSA Essentials is the battery kit, with six AAA cells, a 30 m claim and no monitoring fee on the bullets. IA-320 Sync is the mains kit, with the 200 m claim and Alexa, Google Assistant and Philips Hue on the listing. Do not apply Sync's cellular plan to the HSA. Both still ship with one contact.
