Thermostats

Updated: October 2026Hub-Seite

Thermostats covers frost thermostat, radiator thermostat, room thermostat, smart home thermostat, smart radiator valve and thermostat socket. Each comparison says what that product is for, and which checks still apply when the listings change.

Once you have the product type, the comparison is where the current listings live. Shelf prices and makers stay there.

Common questions about thermostats

What is the difference between a room thermostat and a TRV?
A room thermostat calls the boiler or pump for the whole zone it serves. A thermostatic radiator valve only throttles one radiator. Approved Document L expects a room stat or programmer plus TRVs on the other radiators. The room with the wall stat usually keeps a manual valve so the boiler can still shut off.
Can tado X join an existing tado V3+ home?
No. tado X and tado V3+ are separate generations in the comparisons here. Bridge X, Wireless Receiver X and X heads do not mix with a V3+ Internet Bridge or V3+ heads. Pick one line before you buy a starter kit or a spare head.
Why do many Wi-Fi thermostats ask for 2.4 GHz?
Many wall stats and plugs state 2.4 GHz only. A phone on 5 GHz during setup may never see the device. Splitting the band on the router, or a temporary 2.4 GHz SSID, is the usual fix when pairing fails and the boiler wiring is already correct.
What does Boiler Plus require in England?
From 6 April 2018, a new gas boiler in an existing English home needs time and temperature control plus automation or optimisation. That is a legal pattern for the install, not a badge on an amazon.co.uk box. Voice control or Alexa on the listing does not prove compliance by itself.
When is a thermostat socket the right product?
Use a plug-in thermostat socket for a greenhouse heater, reptile mat, fan or temporary cooler. It switches one appliance through a probe. It does not fire a gas boiler. Plan around a 13 A BS 1363 limit even when a bullet claims 16 A, and keep the probe in the air you want to control.
How do Danfoss RA and M30 heads differ?
Danfoss RA click and RAS liquid heads mount on Danfoss valve bodies. An M30×1.5 head fits many other TRV bodies when the thread matches. Read the old head before you order. A radiator head does not replace a wall stat on the boiler side.
Does a smart radiator valve start the boiler on its own?
A smart TRV can close one radiator, but the boiler still needs a room stat, programmer or brand gateway that is allowed to demand heat. Several listings in the smart radiator valve comparison need Hive Hub, Bridge X or a Zigbee coordinator in the house. A head alone is not a full heating system.
Electric or water: which underfloor thermostat fits?
Electric mats need a stat that can carry the load and use a floor sensor so the surface cannot overrun. Water underfloor needs an actuator or wiring-centre call. Meross MTS205 and MTS215 rows in the comparison are electric-only. Match the heat source on the listing before you trust a schedule.
