PE film comparison 2026

The best PE films, compared.

Top pick: Fabater barrier film, 1,200 sheets Best value: G4GADGET pallet wrap 400 mm × 200 m – About £5.99 for one 400 mm by 200 m roll, the lowest 400 mm stretch price here, score 66 and 4.5 from 647. No micron is printed. Updated 23 October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

PE film is polyethylene film. In the UK you buy it as pallet stretch wrap, flat polythene sheeting, black mulch, or a small self-adhesive barrier sheet. Stretch wrap clings to itself, and households and small businesses mostly want it for a pallet, boxes, furniture or luggage. Sheeting lies flat for dust or a short cover. Mulch goes on soil. Sheeting, mulch and barrier film are the same polymer and the wrong tool for a pallet. Furniture and pallets use a hand roll about 400 mm wide. A narrower roll with handles suits parcels and is slow on a sofa. Where a micron is printed, trade guides, not a British Standard, put about 17 micron on an ordinary load and about 20 to 23 micron when corners tear. Treat the metre line as a claim. Clear film lets you read a label. Black hides the load and can hold dust. This film is not a BS 6515 damp-proof course, food cling or heat-shrink. Width, micron and that claim are in the [PE film buying guide](/hub/diy-supplies/pe-film/sub/pe-film-buying-guide).

The best PE films in detail

Fabater barrier film, 1,200 sheets

Rank 1

Fabater barrier film, 1,200 sheets

∼£17

Our view

The Fabater listing is a PE barrier roll of 1,200 sheets at £17.05, titled for dental, tattoo and microblading surfaces, with a self-adhesive backing in the bullets. The title says each sheet is 4 ft by 6 ft, while the bullets talk about sheets cut for a dispenser, so the size a buyer expects is not settled on the page. Across 3 amazon.co.uk ratings it is 5.0, and the capture has no review text behind that line. Thickness is not printed, the model field is blank, the item weight is 562 g, and the country of origin is China. A 5.0 from three ratings is not a large UK sample, and the listing does not state a medical-device class or that the film sterilises a surface. It is a barrier roll only if the sheet size on the live page matches the job, and it is not pallet wrap.

Pros

  • 1,200 sheets on a PE barrier roll at £17.05
  • Bullets say a self-adhesive backing
  • Title names dental, tattoo and microblading surfaces
  • Item weight is printed as 562 g, and China is printed as the country of origin

Cons

  • Title says 4 ft by 6 ft and the bullets talk about dispenser sheets
  • No review text behind 5.0 from 3 ratings
  • Thickness is blank and the model field is blank
  • The listing does not state that the film sterilises a surface

Best for: You want a tacky barrier sheet for a hard-to-clean surface and you will check the live sheet size before you pay.

Less suitable: You need pallet wrap, review text, or a stated medical-device class.

Common questions

Is this a pallet roll?

No. The title is a barrier film roll for dental, tattoo, and makeup surfaces.

How big is each sheet?

The title says 4 ft × 6 ft. The bullets talk about sheets cut for a dispenser. No review text confirms the size.

Does the 5.0 score mean it is the best film?

The capture shows 5.0 from 3 ratings and no review text. That is not a large UK sample.

TOUKBEAU polythene sheeting, 2 m × 6 m

Rank 2

TOUKBEAU polythene sheeting, 2 m × 6 m

∼£10

Our view

The TOUKBEAU YZJ-321344 is flat polythene sheeting at £9.58, not a cling roll, and the only review used it over seedlings in a frost. The title and bullets say 2 m by 6 m, clear, and 0.04 mm. Product dimensions say 600 by 300 by 0.1 cm, and the colour field says white, so size, thickness and colour conflict on the same page. The capture is 5.0 from 1 amazon.co.uk review, and the item weight is 150 g. A single 5.0 is the whole star line, not a sample you can lean on. It is a drape cover for frost, dust or paint when you can live with those conflicts, and it will not wrap a pallet.

Pros

  • Flat polythene sheet at £9.58 for a temporary cover, not a cling roll
  • Title states 2 m by 6 m and 0.04 mm
  • The one review used it over seedlings in a frost
  • Model YZJ-321344 is printed

Cons

  • Product dimensions also say 600 by 300 by 0.1 cm
  • Colour field says white and the title says clear
  • 5.0 from 1 review
  • Item weight is 150 g, and the sheet does not cling

Best for: You want a flat sheet for frost, dust or paint and you will check which size line is live.

Less suitable: You need stretch wrap, or you need the title and the dimension line to name the same sheet.

Common questions

Is this pallet wrap?

No. It is flat polythene sheeting. The only review used it over seedlings in a frost.

Which size is right?

The title and bullets say 2 m × 6 m and 0.04 mm. Product dimensions say 600 × 300 × 0.1 cm. Colour is white in the spec field and clear in the title.

Does one 5.0 review make it the best sheet?

The capture has one UK review. The score is that single rating.

Triplast pallet stretch wrap, black, 17 micron

Rank 3

Triplast pallet stretch wrap, black, 17 micron

Our view

The Triplast PS250 black roll is cast stretch film, 17 micron, 400 mm by 250 m, at £6.79, and it is the top pick on this score: 4.6 from 7,259 amazon.co.uk ratings, with a stated gauge and United Kingdom printed as the origin. That is the largest review count in the set. A bullet still says a clear finish keeps contents identifiable, which does not match the black colour field, so you will not read a label through it. One review says about 150 m rather than 250 m, and the item weight is 925 g. One UK review says static holds dust, and that reviewer would still buy it again. Black is not extra thickness. It hides a pallet or a removal load, and you should skip it when the point of the wrap is to see what is underneath.

Pros

  • Black cast film, 17 micron, 400 mm wide, at £6.79
  • 4.6 from 7,259 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest file in this set
  • United Kingdom is printed as the country of origin, and the model is PS250
  • One UK review that mentions static dust would still buy it again

Cons

  • A bullet still describes a clear finish on a black roll
  • One review says about 150 m, not 250 m
  • One UK review says static holds dust
  • Black hides labels, and it is not thicker than the 17 micron clear Triplast

Best for: You want black 17 micron cast film to hide a pallet or a removal load, and you can accept a disputed 250 m line.

Less suitable: You must read a label through the film, or you wanted black to mean a heavier gauge.

Common questions

Will I be able to see labels through it?

The colour field is black, so contents are hidden. A bullet still says the clear finish keeps contents identifiable. That line does not match this variant.

Does black film attract dust?

One UK review says the black wrap builds static and collects dust, and that they would still buy it again.

Why is this the top pick in the table?

On the captured listing it is 4.6 out of 5 from 7,259 reviews at £6.79, with 17 micron stated. That is listing evidence, not a lab test.

G4GADGET pallet wrap 23 micron, 400 mm × 220 m

Rank 4

G4GADGET pallet wrap 23 micron, 400 mm × 220 m

Our view

The G4GADGET PalletWrap-1 is clear polyethylene at 23 micron, 400 mm by 220 m, at £8.99, the thicker stated gauge among these stretch rolls. Across 3,899 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.6. Reviews say it is stickier than a previous roll, one reviewer would add tape at the end, and covering furniture is described as a two-person job. The capture does not dispute the 220 m line, and the item weight is 1.2 kg. Number of items is 1 while the pack field says 2, and recycled content is printed once as post-consumer and once as pre-consumer. Choose it when corners are sharp enough that 17 micron is the wrong step, and confirm you are buying one roll.

Pros

  • 23 micron printed, 400 mm by 220 m, at £8.99
  • 4.6 from 3,899 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Reviews say it is stickier than a previous roll, and the capture does not dispute 220 m
  • Item weight 1.2 kg, model PalletWrap-1, and a recycled-content line is printed

Cons

  • Pack field says 2 while the item count says 1
  • Recycled content is printed as both post-consumer and pre-consumer
  • One review would add tape at the end
  • Furniture is described as a two-person job

Best for: You want a printed 23 micron on a 400 mm clear roll for a heavier or sharper load.

Less suitable: You need the pack count and the item count to agree, or you are wrapping alone and expected the film to finish without tape.

Number of items is 1. Number of packs is 2. The title reads as one 400 mm by 220 m roll.

Unihubys barrier film, 1,200 sheets, 4 in × 6 in

Rank 5

Unihubys barrier film, 1,200 sheets, 4 in × 6 in

∼£17

Our view

The Unihubys UTA-2015 is a blue PE barrier roll of 1,200 sheets, each 4 in by 6 in, with a dispenser, at £16.99, for dental and tattoo surfaces. Across 153 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.6. Of 38 reviews in the capture, 4 are marked United Kingdom, and one of those says it is sticky but does not stick to a lot of their surfaces. Thickness is not printed, the item weight is 820 g, the brand field says Unihuby while the manufacturer field says Unihubys, and the country of origin is China. The sheet size agrees on the page. The film does not replace cleaning under a dental practice policy. It is the small barrier roll when 4 in by 6 in is the patch you change, and it is the wrong film for a pallet.

Pros

  • 1,200 blue sheets of 4 in by 6 in, with a dispenser, at £16.99
  • 4.6 from 153 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Sheet size agrees on the listing, and model UTA-2015 is printed
  • Self-adhesive, for dental and tattoo surfaces

Cons

  • One UK review says it does not stick to a lot of their surfaces
  • Only 4 of 38 captured reviews are marked United Kingdom
  • Thickness is not printed
  • Brand field says Unihuby and the manufacturer field says Unihubys

Best for: You change small 4 in by 6 in patches on a hard surface and you want a dispenser in the box.

Less suitable: You need the film to hold on every surface, or you are wrapping a pallet.

Triplast pallet stretch wrap, clear, 17 micron

Rank 6

Triplast pallet stretch wrap, clear, 17 micron

Our view

The Triplast PS250 clear roll is cast stretch film, 17 micron, 400 mm by 250 m, at £7.99, and the bullets say a clear finish so you can identify what is inside. Across 5,874 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5. The listing prints 30% post-consumer recycled content and United Kingdom as the country of origin. Reviews estimate about 100 to 150 m rather than 250 m, and the item weight is printed as 100 g against that description. The bullets say it clings to itself with no adhesive residue. It is the clear cast roll when you must see a label, and the metre line and the 100 g weight are the reasons to doubt the stated length.

Pros

  • Clear cast film, 17 micron, 400 mm wide, so labels stay readable
  • 4.5 from 5,874 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 30% post-consumer recycled content and United Kingdom origin are printed
  • Bullets say it clings to itself with no adhesive residue
  • Model PS250 is named

Cons

  • Reviews estimate about 100 to 150 m, not 250 m
  • Item weight is printed as 100 g
  • £7.99 is more than the black Triplast roll in this set
  • The recycled-content line is a specification, not a tax exemption at checkout

Best for: You want clear cast film at 17 micron so you can see the load, and you will not treat 250 m as weighed.

Less suitable: You need to hide the contents, or you need a printed weight that matches a 250 m roll.

The listing prints 30% post-consumer recycled content. It does not say the shopper is exempt from a tax.

TPZ stretch film 400 mm × 250 m, 17 micron

Rank 7

TPZ stretch film 400 mm × 250 m, 17 micron

Our view

The TPZ STPW is a clear 17 micron stretch roll, 400 mm by 250 m, at £6.99, for pallets, furniture, tools and moving. Across 5,767 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5. The bullets claim cling, one UK review says it did not stick to itself or to anything else, and other reviews say the cling was good. Reviews also call the roll shorter than a normal industrial film, and the item weight is printed as 700 g. Country of origin is China, and the model STPW is named. It is a stated-gauge clear roll when you can accept a split on cling and a length that reviewers do not treat as a full industrial 250 m.

Pros

  • 17 micron and 400 mm by 250 m are both printed, at £6.99
  • 4.5 from 5,767 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Model STPW is named, and the bullets claim cling for pallets, furniture, tools and moving
  • Some reviews say the cling was good

Cons

  • One UK review says it did not stick to itself or to anything else
  • Reviews call the roll shorter than a normal industrial film
  • Item weight is printed as 700 g against a 250 m claim
  • No cast-film line and no recycled-content line on the page

Best for: You want a clear 17 micron 400 mm roll and you will check the live length rather than trust 250 m.

Less suitable: You need cling that UK reviews agree on, or you need a length reviewers treat as a full industrial roll.

G4GADGET pallet wrap 400 mm × 200 m

Rank 8

G4GADGET pallet wrap 400 mm × 200 m

Our view

The G4GADGET g4clear750gmPW is one transparent 400 mm by 200 m stretch roll at £5.99, the lowest shelf price among the 400 mm stretch rolls in this set, so it is the best value when an unstated gauge is acceptable. Across 647 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5. The listing says thick polyethylene and does not print a micron. One review found the roll slightly smaller than 200 m, and the item weight is 790 g. One UK review bought it for the floor and then said it is wrapping film, not floor film. Another review says two people are needed for a strong wrap on furniture. It clings to itself for pallets, furniture, moving and storage, and it is the wrong sheet to lay on a floor.

Pros

  • £5.99 for one 400 mm by 200 m transparent roll, the lowest 400 mm stretch price in this set
  • 4.5 from 647 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Listed for pallets, furniture, moving and storage, and the bullets say it clings and is waterproof
  • Model g4clear750gmPW is printed, and the item weight is 790 g

Cons

  • No micron is printed
  • One review found the roll slightly smaller than 200 m
  • One UK review says it is wrapping film, not floor film
  • One review says furniture wants two people

JeeJaan 2 rolls clear pallet wrap, 20 micron

Rank 9

JeeJaan 2 rolls clear pallet wrap, 20 micron

∼£11

Our view

The JeeJaan PW-NE is two clear 400 mm rolls at 20 micron, titled 250 m each and non-extended, at £10.85 for the pair. Across 352 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5. The core does not stick out as handles, so a dispenser is the usual partner. UK reviews say the 250 m line is not true, and one says not even 100 m. Cling reviews are mixed, while other reviews use the film so drawers and doors stay shut on a move. The item weight is 1.47 kg for both rolls. About £5.43 a roll only holds if both claimed rolls are full, which is why this pair is not the best value in the set.

Pros

  • Two clear 400 mm rolls with 20 micron printed, at £10.85
  • 4.5 from 352 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Non-extended core, model PW-NE
  • Reviews use it so drawers and doors stay shut

Cons

  • UK reviews say 250 m is not true, and one says not even 100 m
  • Cling reviews are mixed
  • A flush core usually wants a dispenser you supply
  • The unit price is only low if both rolls match the length the title claims

Best for: You want two clear 20 micron rolls and a dispenser for a flush core, and you will not budget on 250 m each.

Less suitable: You need a length UK reviews accept, or you wanted handles on the core.

WELSTIK PE stretch wrap with blue handles, 2 pack

Rank 10

WELSTIK PE stretch wrap with blue handles, 2 pack

∼£15

Our view

The WELSTIK W-WFBL is two narrow PE rolls with blue handles, about 13 cm wide and about 305 m each, at £14.99, for packing, moving and parcels. Across 143 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.5. The bullets say it clings without glue, and one UK review says it is cling film and not the shrink wrap they expected. The page prints both 20 micron and 0.08 in, and the colour field says blue while the title says clear film with blue handles. The item weight is 330 g, and the country of origin is China. About 13 cm is slow on a sofa or a wardrobe, where the 400 mm rolls in this set are the furniture width. It suits parcels and luggage when you want handles on a narrow roll.

Pros

  • Two rolls with blue handles, about 13 cm by 305 m, at £14.99
  • 20 micron is printed, and 4.5 comes from 143 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Bullets say it clings without glue
  • Model W-WFBL is named

Cons

  • About 13 cm wide, so a wardrobe is slow work
  • One UK review expected shrink wrap and received cling film
  • 20 micron and 0.08 in are both printed
  • Colour field says blue and the title says clear film with blue handles

Best for: You are wrapping parcels or luggage and you want handles on a narrow roll.

Less suitable: You are covering a sofa or a wardrobe, or you wanted heat-shrink film.

Rainberg heavy-duty stretch film

Rank 11

Rainberg heavy-duty stretch film

Our view

The Rainberg PW-111 is a clear 400 mm stretch roll at £6.49, sold for pallets, furniture, luggage and parcels. Across 377 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.4. The bullets say 250 m and the title also says 400 m, so the two length lines on the same page do not agree. UK reviews in the capture say the roll was not 250 m. The bullets claim a strong cling, and reviews say it sticks to itself, including before you mean it to, until the technique is learnt. No micron is printed, and the item weight is 690 g. It is a clear hand roll when you can live with a disputed metre claim and no gauge on the page.

Pros

  • Clear 400 mm stretch roll at £6.49 for pallets, furniture, luggage and parcels
  • 4.4 from 377 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Bullets claim cling and a waterproof wrap
  • Model PW-111 is printed

Cons

  • Title says 400 m and the bullets say 250 m
  • UK reviews say the roll was not 250 m
  • No micron is printed
  • Reviews say it sticks before you mean it to, until the technique is learnt

Best for: You want a clear 400 mm roll and you will treat 250 m as a claim, not a measured length.

Less suitable: You need a printed micron, or you need the title and the bullets to name the same length.

Rank 12

BESPORTBLE perforated PE mulch, black

Our view

The BESPORTBLE listing is black perforated PE mulch, 10 m by 0.95 m, at £7.99, for greenhouse crops, weeds and soil moisture. The size line prints 0.01 cm as the thickness, and the item weight is 174 g. The capture has no star line and no review text, so there is no UK opinion on how the holes sit or how long the sheet lasts. A voltage line of 100 to 120 volts is printed with no electrical job, so treat that line as noise. Hole spacing is not stated. It lies on soil, and it will not cling a pallet or a sofa.

Pros

  • Black perforated PE, 10 m by 0.95 m, for soil rather than a pallet
  • Thickness is printed as 0.01 cm on the size line
  • A model code and China as the country of origin are both on the page
  • £7.99 for one mulch film

Cons

  • No star line and no review text in the capture
  • A 100 to 120 volt line is printed with no electrical job
  • Hole spacing is not stated
  • It does not cling, so it is the wrong film for furniture or parcels

Best for: You are covering soil in a greenhouse and you want perforated black PE at this size.

Less suitable: You need pallet wrap, a review history, or a stated hole spacing.

Common questions

Is this pallet wrap?

No. The title is perforated agricultural PE mulch for greenhouse crops, 10 m by 0.95 m.

How thick is it?

The size line is 1000.00 × 95.00 × 0.01 cm. Hole spacing is not stated

Why is a voltage printed?

The capture includes 100 to 120 volts and 50 hertz. No electrical function is described. Treat that line as noise.

How we compared

Shelf prices, stars and review notes are the amazon.co.uk snapshot stored for these twelve listings, dated 21 October 2026. This is not a lab test of length, cling or thickness. Each score adds five marks: the star line times eight, a sample mark from the review count, listing detail, UK review notes, and whether a manufacturer and a model are printed. The highest score, 83, is the top pick. Best value is a separate award: the lowest shelf price among the 400 mm stretch rolls, when an unstated gauge is acceptable. A 5.0 from one or three ratings is only the star mark plus a thin sample. Non-UK review text is not British opinion. None of these listings is scored as BS 6515, food cling or heat-shrink.

1

Star line

40%

The amazon.co.uk star line times eight, rounded to the nearest whole number. A 5.0 is 40, a 4.6 is 37, a 4.5 is 36 and a 4.4 is 35. No star line scores 0. Stars are not the whole score.

2

Review sample

16%

The amazon.co.uk count adds 16 from 5,000 ratings upward, 12 from 1,000 to 4,999, 9 from 300 to 999, 5 from 40 to 299, 2 from 2 to 39, and 0 below 2. A thin 5.0 cannot outrank a large sample on stars alone.

3

Listing detail

31%

Gauge, one printed width, whether the title agrees with colour and size, named extras for cast film, recycled content and United Kingdom origin, and the length line. A 400 mm roll titled at least 200 m and printed under 200 g loses 6. These points are not capped. This weight is the balance that brings the five criteria to 100.

4

UK review notes

10%

Start at 8 when the capture records a UK job or a UK fault, 1 when there is a star line and no review text, and 0 when there is no star line. Short-roll complaints, split cling, and a film that misses many titled surfaces are deducted. Floor 0, cap 10. Text from outside the UK is not British opinion.

5

Identity

3%

3 when the manufacturer and a model code are both printed, 1 when only one of those is printed, and 0 when neither is printed. A blank model counts as missing.

PE film buying guide

You are choosing polyethylene film for a pallet, a move, a short cover, soil, or a surface you wipe between uses. Those are different objects. Stretch wrap clings to itself. Sheeting drapes. Mulch lies on soil. Barrier film is a small tacky sheet. On this amazon.co.uk capture, one 400 mm stretch roll runs from about £5.99 to about £8.99. The top pick is the black 17 micron cast roll when you want to hide the load and you can live with a disputed metre line.

What is PE film?

PE film is polyethylene film. Household buyers and small businesses in the UK mostly meet it as hand stretch wrap for a pallet, a stack of boxes, furniture or luggage. The same polymer is also sold as flat polythene sheeting, black mulch, and small self-adhesive barrier sheets. Stretch wrap clings to itself. Sheeting lies flat for dust, paint or a brief cover. Mulch goes on soil. Barrier film is a tacky patch for a hard-to-clean surface.

Best for

  • A pallet, a stack of boxes, furniture or luggage
  • A short dust cover, soil, or a small barrier sheet

Not ideal for

  • A damp-proof course, food cling, or heat-shrink
  • Asbestos, or a surface that must be cleaned rather than covered

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Using wrap as a dust sheet

Stretch wrap clings to itself. It is the wrong sheet to lay on a floor. One UK review of a 400 mm roll bought it for the floor and then said it is wrapping film, not floor film. Flat sheeting is the drape. Mulch goes on soil.

  2. 2

Trusting 250 m, or reading shrink as heat

UK reviews on several rolls titled 250 m say the film ran out nearer 100 to 150 m. A true 400 mm by 250 m by 17 micron roll is about 1.5 kg of film, as a density check, not a lab weigh-in. Do not heat this film. One UK review expected shrink wrap and received cling film.

  3. 3

Black film, or 13 cm, on the wrong job

Black hides labels and can hold dust. It is not extra thickness. A roll about 13 cm wide is slow on a sofa or a wardrobe. The 400 mm rolls are the furniture width in this set. Do not wrap asbestos, and do not treat a barrier sheet as a sterilised surface.

What to weigh up

Job, width and micron

High

Match the job before the brand. Stretch wrap clings to itself and is the film for a pallet, boxes, furniture or luggage. Flat sheeting lies on a surface for dust, paint or a short cover. Black PE mulch goes on soil. Barrier film is a small tacky sheet for a hard-to-clean surface, changed between uses, and it is not a pallet roll. Width is the next check. Furniture and pallets in this set are 400 mm rolls. A roll about 13 cm wide suits parcels and luggage and is slow on a sofa or a wardrobe.

Length, colour and disposal

High

Treat the metre line as a claim. UK reviews on several 400 mm rolls titled 250 m say the film ran out nearer 100 to 150 m. A density check, not a lab weigh-in, puts a true 400 mm by 250 m by 17 micron roll at about 1.5 kg of film. If the printed item weight is far below that, do not budget the job on the title length. A two-pack looks cheaper per roll only if both rolls are full. Choose clear when you must scan a label, and black when you want to hide the load.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A house move

You want a 400 mm clear roll that clings, so drawers and a mattress stay covered and you can still see a label. The clear Triplast cast roll is about £7.99, 17 micron, 4.5 from 5,874 reviews, score 81. Reviews estimate about 100 to 150 m, and the printed weight is 100 g. It is not the film that hides the load.

A small warehouse

You want a stated micron, a 400 mm width, and a length the capture does not dispute. The G4GADGET 23 micron roll is about £8.99, 400 mm by 220 m, 4.6 from 3,899 reviews, score 82. The pack field says 2 and the item count says 1. It is the thicker stated gauge, not the cheapest roll.

A surface you change

You change small patches on a hard surface between clients, and you want a dispenser in the box. The Unihubys roll is 1,200 sheets of 4 in by 6 in at about £16.99, 4.6 from 153 reviews. One UK review says it misses many surfaces. It does not replace cleaning, and it is not pallet wrap.

Common questions about PE films

Which PE film is the top pick in this comparison?
The top pick is the Triplast black cast roll at about £6.79. It scores 83, the highest in this set: 17 micron, 400 mm, United Kingdom printed as the origin, and 4.6 from 7,259 amazon.co.uk ratings. A bullet still describes a clear finish, one review says about 150 m, and one UK review says static holds dust. Skip it when you must read a label through the film. Black is not a heavier gauge. It is not a lab test.
How much does PE film cost on amazon.co.uk?
On this amazon.co.uk capture, one 400 mm stretch roll runs from about £5.99 to about £8.99. The £5.99 roll states 200 m and no micron. Triplast black is about £6.79, TPZ about £6.99, Triplast clear about £7.99, and the 23 micron roll about £8.99. A two-roll pack is about £10.85, the narrow two-pack about £14.99, sheeting about £9.58, mulch about £7.99, and the barrier rolls about £16.99 and £17.05. These are stored shelf prices, not a live survey.
What should I check before I buy PE film?
Start with the job. Stretch wrap clings to itself. Sheeting lies flat. Mulch goes on soil. Barrier film is a small tacky sheet. Then read the width: 400 mm is the furniture and pallet size here, and about 13 cm is for parcels. Where a micron is printed, about 17 micron is the ordinary load and about 20 to 23 micron is for sharper corners. Treat 250 m as a claim.
Should I choose clear or black stretch wrap?
Choose clear when you must read a label or see what is inside. Choose black when you want to hide a pallet or a removal load. Black is not extra thickness. On the black Triplast roll, one UK review says static holds dust. Carbon-black pigment is also a sorting problem in the GOV.UK flexible-packaging assessment. A bullet on that black listing still describes a clear finish, which does not match the colour field.
Can I trust a 250 m length on the title?
Treat 250 m as a claim. UK reviews on Rainberg, both Triplast colours, TPZ and JeeJaan say a roll titled 250 m ran out nearer 100 to 150 m. A density check, not a lab weigh-in, puts a true 400 mm by 250 m by 17 micron roll at about 1.5 kg of film. Printed weights are often lower, including 100 g on the clear Triplast roll.
Do I pay Plastic Packaging Tax on one household roll?
No. Plastic Packaging Tax falls on UK manufacturers and importers of 10 tonnes or more of finished plastic packaging a year, at £228.82 per tonne from 1 April 2026 if recycled content is under 30%. GOV.UK lists pallet wrap as in scope. One household roll is not a tax return. A printed 30% recycled-content line is a specification, not a checkout discount. Film is not reliably in the household bin, so check your postcode.
Is stretch wrap the same as shrink wrap or a damp-proof course?
No. Stretch wrap clings to itself. It is not heat-shrink, food cling or a floor sheet. None of these listings is BS 6515, black polyethylene around 0.5 mm for masonry. Barrier sheets do not sterilise a surface and do not replace cleaning under NHS England HTM 01-05. HSE says untrained householders should not repair or remove asbestos. Do not wrap asbestos in this film.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Triplast black cast roll at about £6.79. It scores 83, the highest in this set: 17 micron, 400 mm, United Kingdom printed as the origin, and 4.6 from 7,259 amazon.co.uk ratings. It is not a lab test. A bullet still describes a clear finish, one review says about 150 m, and one UK review says static holds dust. Skip it when you must read a label through the film. Black is not extra thickness. Best value is the G4GADGET 400 mm by 200 m roll at about £5.99, score 66, 4.5 from 647 ratings. That is the lowest shelf price among the 400 mm stretch rolls here, and no micron is printed. The 23 micron G4GADGET roll scores 82 and the clear Triplast scores 81. JeeJaan is about £5.43 a roll only if both claimed rolls are full, and UK reviews say the 250 m line is not true, so that unit price is not this award.
