PE film buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a pallet, a stack of boxes, or a sofa to hold together, and the amazon.co.uk results call all of it PE film. Polyethylene is the polymer. The thing in the basket might be stretch wrap, a flat sheet, black mulch, or a tiny barrier sheet. This PE film buying guide puts those families in order before you look at the price. The [PE film comparison](/hub/diy-supplies/pe-film) holds the twelve listings, the shelf prices in pounds, and the review counts. Here you decide which row you are allowed to compare. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. used amazon.co.uk captures from 21 October 2026. We did not weigh a roll.

Four films share a name

Start with the job, because the search box will not. Stretch wrap clings to itself and holds a pallet, furniture, or a parcel without a separate glue line. Flat polythene sheeting drapes for seedlings, dust, or a short paint job. Perforated black PE mulch lies on soil. Barrier film is a small tacky sheet for a surface you would rather not scrub between clients. BESPORTBLE at about £7.99 is 10 m by 0.95 m of perforated black mulch, with no star line in the capture. TOUKBEAU at about £9.58 is a sheet the title calls 2 m by 6 m. Fabater at about £17.05 and Unihubys at about £16.99 are barrier rolls of 1,200 sheets. None of those four is a pallet roll. Whether you can see a label is on clear or black pallet wrap.

Width, micron, and the core

Furniture and pallets in this set are 400 mm rolls. WELSTIK, at about £14.99, is two rolls about 13 cm wide, with blue handles and 20 micron on the title. Raja Pack and Agritel put about 17 micron on an ordinary load and about 20 to 23 micron when corners are sharper. That is a supplier rule of thumb, not a British Standard. Triplast and TPZ state 17. JeeJaan states 20. One G4GADGET roll states 23 micron, 400 mm by 220 m, at about £8.99. The £5.99 roll states 200 m and no micron. Only Triplast names cast film. JeeJaan prints a non-extended core, so a dispenser is the usual partner. The motion is on how to use pallet wrap.

The metres on the title

Treat every metre figure as a claim. UK reviews on Rainberg, both Triplast colours, TPZ, and JeeJaan say a roll titled around 250 m ran out nearer 100 to 150 m. Rainberg’s bullets say 400 mm by 250 m and the title also says 400 m. One review of the £5.99 roll found it slightly smaller than 200 m. About 1.5 kg is the rule of thumb for a true 400 mm by 250 m by 17 micron roll. We did not weigh these ASINs. Triplast clear is printed at 100 g and black at 925 g. Lindum reported that 91% of 67 rolls it tested were short. That is one firm's sample, not these listings.

What to leave on the shelf

TOUKBEAU’s title says clear 2 m by 6 m and 0.04 mm. The colour field says white, and the dimensions also say 600 by 300 by 0.1 cm. The single review used it over seedlings in a frost. Fabater’s 5.0 from three ratings has no review text, and the title’s 4 ft by 6 ft may not be the dispenser sheet. Unihubys prints 4 in by 6 in, and one UK review says it misses many surfaces. Barrier film does not replace cleaning under NHS England dental guidance, and none of these listings is a BS 6515 damp-proof course. A 30% recycled-content line is a specification. Plastic Packaging Tax sits on manufacturers and importers of 10 tonnes or more a year, not on one household roll.

Common questions

Is PE film the same as pallet wrap?
PE film means polyethylene film. Pallet wrap is the stretch member, usually a 400 mm hand roll in this set. Flat sheeting, perforated mulch, and barrier sheets are the same polymer, and they do not cling a pallet. If the title does not say stretch or pallet wrap, treat it as a different tool until the size line says otherwise.
What micron do I need for an ordinary load?
Raja Pack and Agritel put about 17 micron on an ordinary pallet and about 20 to 23 micron on a heavier or sharper load. That is a rule of thumb, not a test of these rolls. Triplast and TPZ print 17, JeeJaan prints 20, and one G4GADGET roll prints 23. A blank micron means you do not know which band you are holding.
Should I buy cast or blown?
Only the Triplast listings in this set name cast film. No listing here identifies blown film, so you cannot choose blown from the table. Buy the micron and the width you can read, and treat cast as present only where the title says it.
Is 400 mm the right width?
For a pallet, a sofa, or a mattress, the 400 mm rolls are the width this comparison is built around. A roll about 13 cm wide, such as WELSTIK, is for parcels and luggage. You can wrap a large item with it, and you will use far more passes.
How do I check a 250 m claim without a lab?
Put the roll on kitchen scales and compare it with about 1.5 kg, a rule of thumb for a true 400 mm by 250 m by 17 micron roll. We did not weigh these ASINs. Reviews on several rolls titled 250 m say the film ran out nearer 100 to 150 m. A 100 g weight, as on Triplast clear, cannot be that roll.
When do I buy sheeting instead?
Buy sheeting when you need a drape: frost, dust, or a brief cover. TOUKBEAU is the sheet in this set, and its size lines disagree. Do not buy stretch wrap as a dust sheet. One buyer of the £5.99 roll tried it on the floor and then said it was wrapping film.
Does 30% recycled content change the price I pay?
No. A printed 30% recycled-content line is a specification. It does not cut the shelf price, and it does not take a household order out of Plastic Packaging Tax, which applies to large manufacturers and importers. Councils differ on film at the kerbside, so check your postcode.
