Cable ties comparison 2026

The best cable ties, compared.

Top pick: Armpow 50 × 450 mm × 9 mm black Best value: BEEWAY 120 mixed 3.6 mm black – Best value in this set: about £3.99 for four lengths at 3.6 mm, with 4.6 from 3,301 reviews. Heavier garden loads snap them. Updated 22.10.2026.

A cable tie is a strap with a locking head. In the UK, cable ties gather charger leads, hold a light loom, or strap a garden cane. Shop packs are usually one-way nylon. They differ by width, length, and whether the listing says the nylon is UV resistant. Black colour is not that proof. Choose by width, then by the tensile figure beside it. Seller charts, not a regulation, put about 8 kg on 2.5 mm, about 18 kg on 3.6 mm, about 22 kg on 4.8 mm, about 54 kg on 7.6 mm, and about 80 kg on 9 mm. That figure is a failure ceiling, not a daily working load. Prefer nylon 6.6 or PA66, and the words UV resistant if the tie stays in the sun. The lock stays shut unless the title says reusable. A plastic tie is the wrong sole support for fixed wiring on an exposed surface. BS 7671:2018 Regulation 521.10.202 points to steel or copper clips, saddles, or ties. Width, length, and the UV sentence are in the [cable ties buying guide](/hub/diy-supplies/cable-ties/sub/cable-ties-buying-guide).

The best cable ties in detail

Armpow 50 × 450 mm × 9 mm black

Rank 1

Armpow 50 × 450 mm × 9 mm black

∼£12

Our view

Armpow lists 50 black PA66 ties at 450 mm by 9 mm for £11.99, with 80 kg and 175 lb on the page, which agrees with the usual 9 mm trade figure of about 79.4 kg. The star line is 4.7 from 465 reviews, the highest stars in this set and a much smaller sample than the household packs. UK reviews describe a thick strap that held a VW campervan pop-top clip, a garden board in wind, and a greenhouse window hinge through winter weather. Reviewers also say the size is too large if you do not need it, that the pack holds only 50, and that the long tail needs cutting. The Maximum Diameter field repeats the 9 mm width, so read the length as 450 mm and measure the bundle yourself. The UV-resistant line and −35 °C to 85 °C are listing claims. Choose this when a 3.6 mm tie has already slipped on a wide loop.

Pros

  • 450 mm × 9 mm with 80 kg and 175 lb in agreement
  • 4.7 from 465 reviews
  • Reviews cite a camper clip, a garden board, and a greenhouse hinge
  • One review says a hand pull did not cut the skin

Cons

  • Too large for ordinary cable tidy, in reviews
  • Pack of 50, so the piece price is about £0.24
  • Long tail needs cutting
  • Maximum Diameter field repeats the width

Best for: A wide outdoor or workshop loop, such as a board, a mesh, or a strap you already know is beyond 4.8 mm.

Less suitable: Charger leads, a small loom, or anyone who wanted a bag of 100 slim ties.

Common questions

Can they be used outdoors?

The title says UV resistant and the bullets recommend indoor or outdoor use, with a temperature line of −35 °C to 85 °C.

What are they made of?

The bullets say industrial-strength PA66 nylon. The material field also says nylon and plastic.

Are they weatherproof?

The listing calls them weatherproof and UV resistant. That is the seller’s claim. Reviews describe garden, camper, and greenhouse use.

Gocableties 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Rank 2

Gocableties 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Our view

Gocableties lists 100 black nylon 6/6 ties at 300 mm by 3.6 mm for £6.99, with a minimum tensile line of 18.2 kg that matches the usual UK trade band for this width. On the saved amazon.co.uk page the score is 4.6 from 39,098 reviews, and the rank line is 1 in Cable Ties, so the sample is much deeper than the other bags in this set. Reviewers describe a lock that holds for ordinary organising, and one notes that the colour had not faded in recent hot weather, which sits beside the UV-resistant and −40 °C to +85 °C bullets as a listing claim. The same file says the ties were not strong enough for a puppy-pen panel. Some saved comments mention orange or mixed colours, and this SKU is the black pack of 100. For a straight household loom this is the top pick, because the size and the review depth agree. A panel, a fence, or a loop that needs 7.6 mm or 9 mm is a different job.

Pros

  • 300 mm × 3.6 mm with an 18.2 kg line in the usual width band
  • 4.6 from 39,098 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Lock described as holding for ordinary fixes
  • UV-resistant wording and −40 °C to +85 °C on the listing

Cons

  • Not strong enough for a puppy-pen panel, in one review
  • Some reviews describe other colours
  • One-way lock, with no release tab
  • Higher shelf price than the £3.99 mixed bag

Best for: A household that wants one 300 mm length for leads and light organising, and a large review sample behind that size.

Less suitable: Panels, fences, and any loop that needs a 7.6 mm or 9 mm strap, or the sole support of fixed wiring.

Common questions

Can these cable ties be used outdoors?

The bullets say UV-resistant nylon and a range of −40 °C to +85 °C, for indoor or outdoor use. That is a listing claim, not a PA66W certificate.

What are they made of?

The listing says nylon polyamide 6/6. The stated minimum tensile strength is 18.2 kg, which matches the 40.12 lb line.

Are they easy to tighten?

The bullets describe a self-locking tooth that holds once you pull the tail through. They are not described as releasable.

Oksdown 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Rank 3

Oksdown 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Our view

Oksdown sells 100 black nylon 6/6 ties at 300 mm by 3.6 mm for £5.99, listed at 18 kg, with 4.6 from 4,923 reviews. The title says heavy duty, and 18 kg is the ordinary 3.6 mm class. Reviewers find the lock easy for cable organising and say the length covers most household jobs. One garden note says they held where foxes had chewed other fixings. Other reviews say the ties snap under a moderate load, and some comments describe mixed sizes and colours that this SKU does not sell. There is no temperature line. The Maximum Diameter field prints 3E+2 mm, which is a listing artefact. It is a mid-price single-length bag if you want 300 mm ties and can accept those snap comments. The title does not move it into the 7.6 mm or 9 mm class.

Pros

  • 100 ties at 300 mm × 3.6 mm for £5.99
  • 4.6 from 4,923 reviews
  • 18 kg line matches the usual 3.6 mm band
  • UV-resistant nylon 6/6 in the bullets

Cons

  • Reviews report snaps under a moderate load
  • Title says heavy duty on an 18 kg tie
  • No temperature window on the listing
  • Some reviews describe other sizes and colours

Best for: Someone who wants a cheaper single 300 mm length than the rank-1 pack and will stay on light looms.

Less suitable: A job that has already snapped a slim tie, or a buyer who read heavy duty as a 7.6 mm strap.

BEEWAY 120 mixed 3.6 mm black

Rank 4

BEEWAY 120 mixed 3.6 mm black

Our view

BEEWAY’s bag is £3.99 for 120 black PA66 ties, 30 each of 100, 150, 200 and 300 mm, all 3.6 mm wide, with an 18 kg line. The saved amazon.co.uk score is 4.6 from 3,301 reviews. Reviewers like the mixed lengths for small and medium jobs and say the ties feel sturdy once fastened, including when they have used them to support plants. The same reviews say the ties break fairly easily and are not thick enough for heavier gardening. The unit-count field prints 1 while the pieces field prints 120, so count the four lengths rather than that field. The bullets claim UL 94 V-2, which is a flammability class, and a temperature line of −20 °F to 176 °F. This is the best value when you do not yet know which length you will use. A fence, or a drawer that only needs 300 mm ties, is a reason to pick a different row.

Pros

  • £3.99 for four lengths, all 3.6 mm
  • 4.6 from 3,301 reviews
  • 18 kg line in the usual 3.6 mm band
  • Reviewers use the mix for small jobs and plant support

Cons

  • Reviews say they snap on heavier garden and DIY loads
  • Unit count prints 1 against 120 pieces
  • UL 94 V-2 is not a fire-support rating
  • Only one width in the bag

Best for: A first drawer stock when the jobs range from a short lead to a 300 mm loom and the load stays light.

Less suitable: A single repeated 300 mm job, a fence, or any load that has already snapped a 3.6 mm tie.

Common questions

Can they be used outdoors?

The bullets say UV and heat resistant and suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and they claim UL 94 V-2. V-2 is a flammability class, not a fire-support rating.

Are they easy to use?

The listing describes a self-locking tooth that stops the tie at the length you pull to. Reviews mention the mixed lengths as handy for small jobs.

What are they made of?

The bullets say industrial-grade polyamide PA66, with a tensile line of 40 lb (18 kg).

GRUOIZ 800 × 3.6 mm mixed black

Rank 5

GRUOIZ 800 × 3.6 mm mixed black

∼£12

Our view

GRUOIZ lists 800 black nylon 66 ties at 3.6 mm, in lengths of 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 mm, for £11.95, with 4.6 from 2,693 reviews. The bullets print both 40 lb and 50 lb. The pack lines also disagree, because 100 of each of five sizes is 500 pieces, not 800. Reviewers like the length mix, the price, and the small profile on plants. A 2/5 review calls the strength and rigidity underwhelming and describes weak plastic. Outdoor wind and rain appear as a marketing line, with no UV grade and no temperature window. Included components say “Drywall Nosepeice”, which is not a cable-tie part, and the manufacturer line says TIMIZ US beside the GRUOIZ brand. One review claims the ties can be reused, while the bullets say that once locked they will not loosen. Count the bag yourself if you buy it for light jobs.

Pros

  • Five lengths at a stated 3.6 mm width
  • 4.6 from 2,693 reviews
  • Reviewers like the assortment for plants and small jobs
  • About £0.01 a piece at £11.95 if the bag really holds 800

Cons

  • 40 lb and 50 lb both printed
  • Pack-count lines do not add up to 800
  • Included components list a drywall part
  • A low-star review calls the plastic weak

Best for: Light organising and a plant cane, if you check the piece count when the bag arrives.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs one tensile figure, a UV grade, or a strap wider than 3.6 mm.

Common questions

Can they be used outdoors?

The page asks. Bullets mention outdoor wind and rain and do not print a UV standard or a temperature range.

Are they easy to use?

Bullets describe a self-locking head. Reviews call the length mix convenient and the ties easy, and several say they are not as strong as dearer brands.

What are they made of?

Bullets say nylon, including nylon 66. The included-components field says Drywall Nosepeice, which is not part of this product.

XINGO 1000 × 300 mm × 4.8 mm black

Rank 6

XINGO 1000 × 300 mm × 4.8 mm black

∼£25

Our view

XINGO’s 1,000-piece bag is black nylon 66 at 300 mm by 4.8 mm for £24.99, with 4.6 from 2,458 reviews. The specification table states 60 lb, which sits above the usual UK trade figure of about 22 kg, roughly 50 lb, for a 4.8 mm tie. Reviewers say the lock grips, the strap feels thicker than cheaper ties, and a thousand pieces last through house, garden, and workshop jobs. Some comments name red and purple ties on this black listing, so those colour notes describe another variant. The Maximum Diameter field of 0.14 inch also conflicts with the 4.8 mm width bullet. UV resistance is in the title, with a temperature line of −35 °C to 85 °C. Buy this when you already know you will use 300 mm by 4.8 mm in volume. Treat 60 lb as the printed table line, and keep the usual 22 kg band in mind when you choose the width.

Pros

  • 1,000 pieces at a stated 300 mm × 4.8 mm
  • 4.6 from 2,458 reviews
  • Reviewers describe a thicker feel and a lock that grips
  • About £0.02 a piece at the saved £24.99 price

Cons

  • 60 lb sits above the usual 22 kg band for 4.8 mm
  • Some reviews name red and purple ties
  • 0.14 inch diameter field conflicts with 4.8 mm
  • A large bag if you only need a handful of ties

Best for: A workshop or a busy household that will actually use a thousand 300 mm ties at 4.8 mm.

Less suitable: A first small pack, a 9 mm loop, or anyone treating 60 lb as a tested working load.

Common questions

Are they weatherproof?

The page asks. The title says UV resistant and the bullets give −35 °C to 85 °C. They also say fireproof, which is not a standard mark on the page.

Can they be used outdoors?

The title says indoor and outdoor. Some saved reviews describe red or purple ties, which are not this black SKU.

What is the length?

The title and the length field say 300 mm (30 cm), at 4.8 mm wide, pack of 1,000.

XINGO 1500 black mixed lengths

Rank 7

XINGO 1500 black mixed lengths

∼£20

Our view

This XINGO assortment is 1,500 black nylon 66 ties in five lengths from 100 mm to 300 mm for £19.99, scored 4.6 from 800 reviews. The model number says 2.5 mm while the bullets also print 3.6 mm, and the table states 50 lb, which is high for both of those widths. Reviewers like lengths packed separately and a ratchet that works with a tightening tool for home DIY. One review says the quality is not that great, without a measured failure. Included components print “NOT FIT”, which is not a parts list. UV resistance is in the title, with −35 °C to 85 °C on the listing. You can treat it as bulk drawer stock if you can live with two widths on one page. It is a weak choice when you needed a stated 4.8 mm strap or a single width you can quote.

Pros

  • 1,500 pieces across five lengths for £19.99
  • 4.6 from 800 reviews
  • Lengths described as packed separately
  • Ratchet noted as usable with a tightening tool

Cons

  • Width printed as both 2.5 mm and 3.6 mm
  • 50 lb is above the usual band for those widths
  • Included components say NOT FIT
  • One review calls the quality poor, without a measurement

Best for: Bulk indoor stock when several short lengths matter more than a single stated width.

Less suitable: A buyer who must know whether the strap is 2.5 mm or 3.6 mm before it arrives.

Common questions

Can they be used for gardening?

The page asks, and the bullets name garden and workshop use. Width is printed as both 2.5 mm and 3.6 mm, so this is not a heavy-duty width.

Are they easy to use?

The bullets describe bending the strap and pulling the tail through a ratchet. One review used them with a tightening tool.

XINGO 250 × 7.6 mm black

Rank 8

XINGO 250 × 7.6 mm black

∼£15

Our view

XINGO sells 250 black nylon 66 ties at 7.6 mm for £14.99, model 7.6×300, with 4.6 from 656 reviews. The title says 70 kg and the specification table says 120 lb, about 54 kg, which is the usual 7.6 mm trade class, so the page carries two different figures. UK comments that match a black heavy tie say the ties are strong and do the job. Much of the saved sample describes other brands and colours, so that pool is a weak guide to this SKU. Length is printed as 12 inches beside a 300 mm model. The title says indoor and outdoor, and the five bullets do not add a separate UV sentence. A bullet says fireproof with no UL class. Quote the table’s 120 lb when you compare widths, and keep the title’s 70 kg as a conflicting line. This width earns its place when a 3.6 mm strap has slipped on a wide loop.

Pros

  • 250 pieces at a stated 7.6 mm width
  • Table figure of 120 lb matches the usual 7.6 mm class
  • 4.6 from 656 reviews
  • Short UK comments that match a heavy black tie call them strong

Cons

  • Title says 70 kg while the table says 120 lb
  • Much of the saved review sample is other products
  • Fireproof appears with no UL class
  • No separate UV sentence in the five bullets

Best for: A wide loop where you want more than a 4.8 mm strap and you will trust the 120 lb table line.

Less suitable: A thin loom, or a buyer who would hang a load from the title’s 70 kg figure.

XINGO 1500 white mixed lengths

Rank 9

XINGO 1500 white mixed lengths

∼£20

Our view

The white XINGO assortment is £19.99 for 1,500 nylon 66 ties in five lengths from 100 mm to 300 mm, with 4.6 from 225 reviews. Width is printed as both 2.5 mm and 3.6 mm, and the table states 50 lb, the same conflict as the black sister pack. A short UK review calls them well made, and a longer one says they are strong enough for light use. Another says they snapped easily on a tarp and disputes the 50 lb claim, and that comment may belong to a different product. The saved sample includes other listings, including a black 300 mm by 4.8 mm title, and a cold-weather note from Montreal rather than a UK winter. UV resistance is in the title on a white tie. White nylon with only that title line is a weak case for a fence in British sun. Keep it for indoor colour-coding if you accept the mixed review pool.

Pros

  • 1,500 white ties across five lengths
  • 4.6 from 225 reviews
  • A short UK review calls them well made
  • Useful if you want a light colour indoors

Cons

  • Width printed as 2.5 mm and 3.6 mm
  • Review sample includes other products
  • A snap report may not be this white bag
  • UV line sits on a white title only

Best for: Indoor colour-coding when a white strap helps you see the loom and the load stays light.

Less suitable: A fence, a porch, or any outdoor job where you wanted a stabilised black tie.

DUNSOO 500 × 200 mm × 4.8 mm black

Rank 10

DUNSOO 500 × 200 mm × 4.8 mm black

∼£11

Our view

DUNSOO lists 500 black PA66 ties at 200 mm by 4.8 mm for £10.99, with a bullet of up to 23 kg, close to the usual 22 kg band for this width. The score is 4.6 from 125 reviews, a thinner sample than the thousand-piece 4.8 mm bag. Reviewers report useful strength for the money, including about 15 ties through a wire fence to close hedge holes, and the 500 pieces arrived across two packets. One person tried four or five ties before one worked. Another snapped a tie when tightening it with pliers, and one wanted a longer strap for the job. The listing claims UV resistance and −40 °C to +85 °C. Maximum Diameter prints 2E+2 mm, which is an artefact, so use 200 mm as the length. This is a short, slightly wider tie for repeated small loops. A 300 mm household loom needs a longer bag.

Pros

  • 500 pieces at 200 mm × 4.8 mm for £10.99
  • 23 kg bullet sits near the usual 4.8 mm band
  • UV-resistant wording and −40 °C to +85 °C
  • A review used them through wire fence on hedge holes

Cons

  • Only 125 reviews
  • One reviewer tried several ties before one locked
  • A tie snapped when pulled with pliers
  • 200 mm was short for one fence job

Best for: Repeated short loops around 4.8 mm wide, including light fence mesh, if 200 mm reaches.

Less suitable: A 300 mm loom, a wide post, or anyone who tightens nylon with pliers.

Common questions

Can they be used outdoors?

Bullets say UV-resistant PA66, indoor and outdoor, −40 °C to +85 °C.

Are they easy to use?

Bullets describe a pull-to-lock head. One review snapped a tie by tightening with pliers. Another wanted a longer tie.

Do they come in different colours?

The page asks. This SKU is black, 500 pieces, described by one reviewer as two packets.

Mistillion 12 × 8 cm reusable

Rank 11

Mistillion 12 × 8 cm reusable

Our view

Mistillion’s £5.19 pack is 12 reusable organisers at 8 cm, with a buckle, and it is not a nylon ratchet zip tie. The title says nylon and the included-components line says silicone. Model FSZ452 does not match part sfz963, and the brand Mistillion sits beside manufacturer KaCrypto. The listing shows 4.6 from three reviews, and the saved file has no review text, so there is no theme to quote and no award on this row. Bullets describe repeated use on headphones, chargers, travel, and curtains, and they say the ties suit thin and thick cables. There is no tensile figure, no width, no temperature window, and no outdoor claim. At about £0.43 a piece it costs more per strap than a 3.6 mm zip tie if you wanted a one-way lock. Use it to bundle a charger lead you will undo. A fence, a plant stem, or an 18 kg loop needs a different product.

Pros

  • 12 short ties with a buckle for repeated opening
  • 8 cm length aimed at leads and travel
  • Multicolour pack for sorting cables
  • Listing names thin and thick cables

Cons

  • Nylon in the title and silicone in included components
  • Only three ratings and no saved review text
  • No tensile figure, width, or temperature line
  • About £0.43 a piece for a short organiser

Best for: Headphones, chargers, and other leads you will bundle and release again.

Less suitable: A one-way nylon job, outdoor mesh, or any load you would size by kilograms.

Common questions

Are they weatherproof?

The page asks. The bullets do not answer. They describe headphone and charger leads, not outdoor tensile duty.

Can they be used for thick cables?

The page asks. Bullets say a buckle for thin and thick cables and an 8 cm length. No millimetre width or kilogram figure is printed.

Do they come in different colours?

The listing says multicolour, 12 pieces, so leads can be colour-coded. There is no review text in the saved file.

Yaluzibi 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Rank 12

Yaluzibi 100 × 300 mm × 3.6 mm black

Our view

Yaluzibi’s 100-pack is black PA66 at 300 mm by 3.6 mm for £3.98, with 4.5 from 1,128 reviews, the lowest star line among the single-length household bags. The tensile figures are 18 kg and 40 lb, and the bullets claim outdoor use in direct sunlight, with a window of −25 °C to 85 °C. One review says they were cheaper than a B&Q equivalent and fine for cables and privacy screens on fencing. A review title says about 5 percent failed. Another buyer found them shorter than expected and used them in pairs, and a comment written as a 1,200-pack says they are not for heavy-duty work. The title still prints heavy duty on an 18 kg tie. It is a cheap single length if you can spare a few failures in a hundred. The mixed BEEWAY bag is the best value row here, because it has a deeper review sample at a similar shelf price.

Pros

  • £3.98 for 100 ties at 300 mm × 3.6 mm
  • 18 kg line in the usual 3.6 mm band
  • 4.5 from 1,128 reviews
  • One review cites a lower price than a B&Q equivalent

Cons

  • A review title says about 5 percent failed
  • One buyer found the length shorter than expected
  • A saved review describes a 1,200-pack
  • Heavy duty on an 18 kg title

Best for: A low shelf price on one 300 mm length for cables and light fence screens, with a few spares assumed.

Less suitable: A job where a failed lock in the first handful would strand you, or a heavy panel.

Common questions

Are they weatherproof?

The page asks. Bullets say PA66, −25 °C to 85 °C, and use in direct sunlight. That is a listing claim.

Can they be used for gardening?

Gardening is named in the bullets. One review used them on trellis. A review title says 5% failed.

Do they come in other colours?

The page asks. This SKU is black, pack of 100.

How we compared

Scores on the twelve amazon.co.uk cable-tie packs in this set use the star line and the review count, then whether the stated kilograms match the usual band for that width, then review themes that match the SKU, then whether a household can use the length. They are not a laboratory test and not a declaration to BS EN IEC 62275. The highest total is the top pick. Best value is the low shelf price among packs a household can use without stepping up to 7.6 mm or 9 mm. A review about another colour is not treated as this SKU. The weights below sum to 100.

1

Amazon evidence

40%

The amazon.co.uk star score, scaled from 5, plus a review-count band. Tens of thousands of reviews outrank a higher star line from a few hundred. Stars are not a tensile test.

2

Width honesty

20%

Stated kilograms or pounds should sit in the usual UK trade band for that width: about 18 kg at 3.6 mm, 22 kg at 4.8 mm, 54 kg at 7.6 mm, and 80 kg at 9 mm. A conflict between title and table loses points.

3

Review outcome

20%

Themes from reviews that match this SKU. Snaps, failed pieces, and a review pool that describes another colour or another pack lose points.

4

Everyday fit and value

20%

A household can use the length and the width. Piece price is not compared across a 9 mm tie and a 3.6 mm tie as if they were the same object.

Cable ties buying guide

Width decides the ceiling. Length decides whether the tail reaches. A mixed bag is several lengths at one width, which helps a drawer and fails if you needed several widths. Read the tensile line as a failure figure. Store nylon sealed and cool, because it takes up moisture. Cut the tail at the head with flush cutters, not with a knife under the cable.

What is a cable tie?

A cable tie, often called a zip tie, is a flexible strap with a head that locks the tail in one direction. You wrap it around a bundle, pull the tail, and the pawl holds. Cutting the tail flush is part of fitting it. The packs in ordinary UK shops are nylon, usually nylon 6.6 or PA66. Stainless steel ties, releasable trade ties, and metal clips are a different product family. Width is the first check.

Best for

  • Household looms and charger leads at about 3.6 mm
  • A light garden cane where the listing states a UV claim
  • A wide loop you already know needs 7.6 mm or 9 mm

Not ideal for

  • The sole support of fixed wiring on an exposed surface
  • Salt spray, or heat above the listing's temperature window

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Calling 3.6 mm heavy duty

About 18 kg is the usual band for a 3.6 mm strap. A heavy-duty word in the title does not move it into the 7.6 mm or 9 mm class. Read the millimetres.

  2. 2

    Treating black as UV-stable

Black pigment is not a stabilised grade. The listing needs the words UV resistant or UV stabilised if the tie stays in the sun. White nylon with only a title line is a weaker outdoor case.

  3. 3

Reading maximum diameter as the bundle

On some of these pages that field repeats the strap width, or prints a scientific-notation artefact. Use the stated length, and measure the bundle yourself. A one-way tie does not open because the page asks if it is reusable.

What to weigh up

Width and the tensile line

High

Width sets the class of the strap, and the tensile line should sit in the usual band for that width. About 18 kg belongs with 3.6 mm, about 22 kg with 4.8 mm, about 54 kg with 7.6 mm, and about 80 kg with 9 mm. A 3.6 mm tie printed as heavy duty is still a 3.6 mm tie. A title that says 70 kg beside a table that says 120 lb is two claims, and the table figure is the one that matches the usual 7.6 mm class.

Length, lock, and sun wording

High

Length has to reach around the bundle with tail to spare. Five times the diameter is a practical minimum from trade guides, not a law. Mixed bags in this kind of shopping are several lengths at one width. They suit a first drawer. They do not suit a job that is always 300 mm, and they do not suit a job that needs 7.6 mm and 3.6 mm in the same packet. Count the pieces if the unit-count field and the pieces field disagree. The head is a ratchet.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

One household length

You want a single 300 mm by 3.6 mm length for leads and light organising, with a large review sample. The Gocableties pack is about £6.99, with 4.6 from 39,098 reviews and an 18.2 kg line. Skip it for a fence or a 9 mm loop.

A first mixed drawer

You do not yet know which length you will use, and the load stays light. The BEEWAY bag is about £3.99 for 120 black PA66 ties in four lengths, all 3.6 mm, with 4.6 from 3,301 reviews. Reviews say they snap on heavier garden loads.

A wide loop

A 3.6 mm tie has already slipped, and you need about 450 mm by 9 mm. The Armpow pack is about £11.99, with 4.7 from 465 reviews and an 80 kg line. It is too large for charger leads.

Common questions about cable ties

What width of cable tie should I buy?
Width comes first, then the tensile figure beside it. About 18 kg matches a 3.6 mm strap, about 22 kg a 4.8 mm strap, about 54 kg a 7.6 mm strap, and about 80 kg a 9 mm strap. Those numbers are failure ceilings from seller charts, not a daily working load and not a law. A heavy-duty word on an 18 kg tie has not changed the width. If the title and the table disagree, keep both figures.
How much do cable ties cost?
On the amazon.co.uk packs in this set, a bag of about 100 ordinary 3.6 mm ties sits around £4 to £7. A mixed-length bag can be under £4. Wider straps, and bags of 500 to 1,500 pieces, run from about £11 to £25. A higher piece count is more ties, not a certified trade brand. Compare price per piece only inside the same width. A 9 mm tie is a different object from a slim one.
Can I use nylon cable ties outdoors?
Only if the listing says UV resistant or UV stabilised, and only for a job a plastic strap is allowed to do. Black is not automatically stable in the sun. A temperature line on the page is the seller's claim. Nylon still takes up moisture, so a bag left on a radiator or in a hot shed ages before you use it. A nylon tie must not be the only support of fixed wiring on an exposed surface.
Are cable ties suitable as the only support for fixed wiring?
BS 7671:2018 Regulation 521.10.202 says a wiring system must not collapse early in a fire. The notes say non-metallic ties must not be the sole means of support where cables are fixed direct to exposed surfaces or hung under tray. Steel or copper clips, saddles, or ties are the note's answer. A wider nylon strap does not meet that note. BS EN IEC 62275 does not test the tie as insulation.
How do I remove a cable tie without nicking the cable?
Cut the head, not the jacket. Flush cutters at the locking head leave the cable alone. A knife under the strap is how jackets get nicked. These nylon ratchets do not undo. The short reusable organiser is the exception, and it is for leads you will open again, not for an 18 kg loop. If a failed tie is holding something that can fall on a person, stop and change the fixing.
What if I need to pull a cable, not tie one?
A cable tie locks a bundle that is already in place. It does not draw a cable through a conduit, a cavity, or a joist void. For that job, look at a cable pulling aid, which is a different comparison. Lubricant and a draw tape belong with the pull, not with a nylon ratchet. If the jacket is already nicked, or the duty is hotter than the listing window, leave this nylon set.
What does a reusable cable tie do?
A reusable tie in this kind of set is a short organiser with a buckle, about 8 cm, for headphones and charger leads you will bundle and release. It is not a one-way nylon ratchet, and a missing kilogram figure means you cannot size it as a zip tie. Check whether the title says nylon while another line on the page says a different material. Once a standard ratchet is locked, it is meant to stay locked.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Gocableties pack of 100 black nylon ties at 300 mm by 3.6 mm, about £6.99, scored 8.8. The listing states 18.2 kg, in the usual band for that width, and the amazon.co.uk line is 4.6 from 39,098 reviews. It is a one-way lock for a household loom, not a 9 mm strap and not the sole support of fixed wiring. Best value is the BEEWAY mixed bag at about £3.99, scored 8.2, with 120 black PA66 ties in four lengths, all 3.6 mm, and 4.6 from 3,301 reviews. Reviews say those ties snap on heavier garden loads. Armpow is the 450 mm by 9 mm row at about £11.99 when a slim tie has already slipped. XINGO's 7.6 mm pack prints 70 kg in the title and 120 lb in the table. The Mistillion pack is 12 short organisers, with nylon and silicone both printed, and only three reviews.
