Makita grass trimmer comparison 2026

The best Makita grass trimmers, compared.

Top pick: Hengriacly HY-08 red – 4.2 from 41 ratings, two batteries in the bullets, BL pack names, and Grass Trimmers rank 64, ahead of the grey twin. Best value: ConBlom AN01538 – About £59.99 and 3.7 from 79 ratings: the lowest price in this set and the largest review pool, with the battery left out of the highlight. Updated 23.10.2026.

Peter F.Editor

A grass trimmer cuts the strip a mower leaves against fences, walls, paths and borders. The checks that still hold if the models change are the name on the housing, the battery system, what the price includes, the cutting head, and the review sample. A model code from the maker's own range is not a title that only claims an 18 V fit. Cells a seller calls 21 V are not an 18 V pack, and an 18 V to 24 V span is the seller's wording. Packs in the box are not genuine platform batteries. If the battery is left out, the price is the body only. Nylon line is for a lawn edge. A metal blade or a circular saw disc is a different cutter, and chain flails should not be used. For a width up to 50 cm, outdoor-noise rules set a permissible sound power of 96 dB. A corded machine needs a BS 1363 plug, a fully unwound lead and a 30 mA RCD. The cutter types are compared in the [line or blade guide](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/makita-grass-trimmer/sub/makita-grass-trimmer-line-or-blade).

Question 1 of 2

What do you need in the box?

The best Makita grass trimmers in detail

Hengriacly HY-08 red

Rank 1

Hengriacly HY-08 red

∼£120

Our view

The red Hengriacly HY-08 is listed at about £119.98 with two batteries and a charger in the bullets. It is the top pick in this set on a narrow criterion: 4.2 from 41 ratings, two packs in the box, Makita BL names in the bullets, and Grass Trimmers rank 64, which is ahead of the grey twin. The written reviews are the same text as the grey listing, so those 41 ratings are not two independent sets. A shared review says the tool is not a Makita, that assembly failed because the nut would not fit, and that the buyer returned it. The width cell prints 10.0 with no unit. Included packs are also described as 21 V beside the 18 V claim.

Pros

  • 4.2 from 41 ratings, the joint-highest star line
  • Two batteries and a charger are in the bullets
  • A tap-and-go head is named
  • Grass Trimmers rank 64, the strongest rank in this set

Cons

  • Not a Makita tool, and a review says the compatible-with wording felt misleading
  • The nut would not fit in a return review
  • The written reviews are duplicated on the grey listing
  • The width cell has no unit, and a circular saw blade is in the box

Best for: You want the listing in this set with the highest star line, batteries included, and the better rank of the two HY-08 listings, and you accept it is not Makita.

Less suitable: You need a genuine Makita body, a unique set of reviews, or a width printed with a unit.

Common questions

Is the red HY-08 a Makita trimmer?

No. The brand is Hengriacly. A UK review in the shared text says it is not a Makita and that the compatible-with wording felt misleading. The bullets name BL18 packs and also included 21 V 4.0 Ah packs.

Why does this listing carry the top pick?

In this set it ties the highest star line, 4.2 from 41, among listings that name Makita BL packs and include two batteries. Its Grass Trimmers rank is 64, ahead of the grey HY-08 at 87. The written reviews are the same text as the grey listing, so the 41 is not a second sample. This is not a lab test.

What width does the specification cell print?

The cell prints 10.0 with no unit. Bullets also name a 9 inch circular saw blade and a 10 inch tap-and-go head. Listed weight is 2.2 kg. Do not treat 10.0 as a confirmed centimetre or inch figure.

Hengriacly HY-08 grey

Rank 2

Hengriacly HY-08 grey

∼£120

Our view

The grey Hengriacly HY-08 is the same model name, price, star line and written reviews as the red listing. It differs on the listing cells: colour grey, weight 2.36 kg, width cell 23 with no unit, size 41.3 to 59 inches, and Grass Trimmers rank 87. Bullets claim a 750 W motor, a tap-and-go head, two 4.0 Ah packs, and Makita BL compatibility across a seller span of 18 V to 24 V. A shared review says it is not a Makita and that the nut would not fit. It does not get a second badge, because the review text is not a second sample.

Pros

  • Two batteries and a charger are in the bullets
  • The size cell prints 41.3 to 59 inches
  • 4.2 from 41 on this listing's own star line
  • A tap-and-go head is named

Cons

  • The same written reviews as the red listing
  • The width cell has no unit
  • A review could not assemble it
  • Not a Makita-branded tool

Best for: You specifically want the grey listing and can see it is the same review text as the red HY-08.

Less suitable: You want a separate body of reviews, or a width that names centimetres or inches.

Common questions

How is the grey HY-08 different from the red one?

This listing is grey, listed weight 2.36 kg, width cell 23 with no unit, and Grass Trimmers rank 87. The red listing is 2.2 kg, width cell 10.0 with no unit, rank 64. The price is about £119.98 on both. The written reviews match.

Do the 41 ratings stack with the red listing?

No. The written review text is the same as the red HY-08. The amazon.co.uk line on this listing is still 4.2 from 41. Count that pool once.

What batteries do the bullets describe?

Two included 4.0 Ah packs, also called 21 V in the bullets, and a list of Makita packs from BL1820 to BL1860B under a seller span of 18 V to 24 V. The brand is Hengriacly.

YUTVCZO HY-13

Rank 3

YUTVCZO HY-13

∼£120

Our view

The YUTVCZO HY-13 is listed at about £119.99 with two batteries and a charger in the title. The same title says the tool is for a Makita battery and that the packs are 21 V 4.0 Ah. Stars are 4.2 from 19. Cutting width is 25 cm and listed weight is 2.39 kg. UK reviews call it light enough for edging and not as powerful as a petrol strimmer. One review says fitting tools for the heads were missing. The brand is YUTVCZO, not Makita. A 12-month replacement warranty is in a bullet, not in the specification block.

Pros

  • 25 cm is a stated width with a unit
  • Two batteries are included
  • 4.2 from 19 ratings
  • Reviews call it light for edging

Cons

  • 21 V packs are in the title beside a Makita-battery claim
  • No BL-series model list in the specification block
  • One review says the heads lacked fitting tools
  • 750 W is a bullet, not a specification cell

Best for: You want a 25 cm kit with two packs and a charger, and you will not assume those packs are 18 V LXT.

Less suitable: You need a named BL18 pack to click in, or you already own Makita chargers and want to share them.

Common questions

Are the included batteries Makita 18 V packs?

The title says for a Makita battery and, in the same line, two 4.0 Ah 21 V batteries. The specification cell says two lithium-ion batteries are included. It does not name a BL-series model. A review calls the packs Makita 21 V batteries. That is the reviewer's wording.

What width and weight are listed?

Cutting width is 25 cm. Item weight is 2.39 kg. Speed is 18,000 rpm. A bullet gives a shaft length of 102 cm to 142 cm, while the dimension cell is 70 x 23 cm.

What do the UK reviews say about using it?

The star line is 4.2 from 19. Reviews call it light and useful without a mains lead. One calls it noisy and rough, and says there were no tools to fit every head. One buyer chose it in order to use Makita batteries.

GfsGsjzc H510-01

Rank 4

GfsGsjzc H510-01

∼£100

Our view

The GfsGsjzc H510-01 is a cordless stick listed at about £99.99 with wheels, two nylon spools and metal blades, and with no battery. The cutting width is listed as 12 inches, about 30 cm. Stars are 4.1 from 14 ratings. Reviews that had a pack say an 18 V battery they already owned ran it, including on allotment weeds. The repeated complaint is the empty battery bay at this price. The bullets name BL1820 through BL1860B and say the nut tightens counter-clockwise. The brand is not Makita. A circular saw blade is in the contents list.

Pros

  • 4.1 from 14 ratings
  • 1.8 kg and 7,500 rpm on the listing
  • Wheels and two nylon spools are in the bullets
  • Bullets name a long BL18 list

Cons

  • No battery at about £99.99
  • Circular saw blades are in the box
  • Only 14 ratings
  • The G-series exclusion is not defined on the listing

Best for: You already own a listed BL18 pack and want wheels plus nylon spools on a body listed at 12 inches.

Less suitable: You expect a charger and a battery for about £99.99, or you do not want a circular saw blade in the kit.

Common questions

Is a battery included at about £99.99?

No. The bullets and the highlight say no battery. Several UK reviews say the missing pack was not obvious in the advert and that the tool cannot run until you add one.

Which Makita packs do the bullets name?

BL1820, BL1820B, BL1830, BL1830B, BL1840, BL1840B, BL1850, BL1850B, BL1860 and BL1860B. The bullets also say it is not compatible with G-series. The listing does not define G-series. One review says an 18 V drill pack ran it.

What cutting parts are in the box?

Two nylon spools, two weed brushes, two metal blades, two circular saw blades, and a set of wheels. Cutting width is listed as 12 inches, about 30 cm. Speed is 7,500 rpm. Listed weight is 1.8 kg.

ConBlom 0061

Rank 5

ConBlom 0061

∼£63

Our view

The ConBlom 0061 is a 30 cm cordless stick listed at about £62.99. The brand is ConBlom, and the title only claims Makita 18 V compatibility. The star line is 4.0 from 7 ratings, which is a thin pool. A UK review says normal strimming cord does lawn edges and does not do thick rye. Another calls it unbalanced and too heavy at the head as a replacement for a Makita strimmer. A bullet claims a 75 degree head tilt. No watt figure is in the specification block, and a battery is not stated as included.

Pros

  • 30 cm cut and 8,500 rpm on the listing
  • Normal cord did lawn edges in one UK review
  • The title claims a Makita 18 V fit
  • A head tilt of 75 degrees is in the bullets

Cons

  • Only 7 ratings
  • A review calls the build poor and the head too heavy
  • Thick rye was not cut on normal cord
  • A battery is not stated as included

Best for: You want a 30 cm cordless stick near this price and can accept a seven-review pool.

Less suitable: You are replacing a Makita strimmer and want the same balance, or you need thick rye cut on nylon line.

ConBlom ZF303

Rank 6

ConBlom ZF303

∼£90

Our view

The ConBlom ZF303 is listed at about £89.99 with a 20 cm cut and no battery. The size cell says no battery. Stars are 3.9 from 22, but only four written reviews in the captured file are from the United Kingdom. Those reviews call it easy and good value, a bit gutless, and dependent on an older Makita battery type. The box list includes metal saw blades as well as a cutting line. A bullet claims 800 W and a 99 to 135 cm shaft. The brand is ConBlom.

Pros

  • The package lists line, blades, a weed brush, goggles, gloves and a strap
  • 20 cm and 12,000 rpm are in the specification block
  • The title claims a Makita 18 V fit
  • A one-year warranty is in a bullet

Cons

  • No battery in the box
  • Listed weight is 3.8 kg
  • One UK review calls it gutless
  • Only four UK written reviews sit under the 22-rating line

Best for: You own an older Makita 18 V pack and want a 20 cm body with blades and a line in the box.

Less suitable: You need a battery included, or a wide nylon head for a long edge.

ConBlom AN01538

Rank 7

ConBlom AN01538

∼£60

Our view

The ConBlom AN01538 is a cordless third-party body listed at about £59.99, the lowest price in this set, with 3.7 from 79 amazon.co.uk ratings, which is the largest review pool here. That is why it is the best value pick: the lowest shelf price and the most ratings, not a lab result, and not a Makita tool. The highlight says the battery is not included, while a 2024 review describes two packs, so the box contents are not settled. Bullets name Makita BL18 packs and also a circular saw blade. The cutting width is listed as 9 inches, about 23 cm. Reviews praise a light setup and a run on the buyer's own 18 V packs. The complaints that return are a missing guard, a cut-out after a few seconds, and a lack of power to cut grass.

Pros

  • About £59.99, the lowest price in this set
  • 3.7 from 79 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest pool here
  • Bullets name Makita BL1830 to BL1860B
  • The highlight states the battery is not included, so the price is a body

Cons

  • A missing guard in more than one UK review
  • Cuts out or lacks power to strim, in several reviews
  • Battery contents contradict a 2024 review that described two packs
  • A circular saw blade is in the bullets, and one review says power drops with it

Best for: You already own a Makita 18 V pack and want the cheapest body in this set, knowing the brand is ConBlom.

Less suitable: You need a battery in the box, a complete guard, or a Makita-branded tool.

Common questions

Does the AN01538 come with a battery?

The item highlight says the battery is not included. A May 2024 UK review says two 2,600 mAh packs were in the box. A June 2026 review says it does not come with batteries. Those lines stay separate.

Will it take a Makita 18 V pack?

The bullets name BL1830, BL1840, BL1850, BL1860 and B variants. One UK review says the buyer's Makita 18 V packs ran it. Another review says DeWalt 18 V packs ran it. The brand on the listing is ConBlom, not Makita.

What cutting width and speed does the listing print?

Cutting width is listed as 9 inches, about 23 cm. The specification cell prints 25,000 rpm. An 800 W figure appears only in a bullet. Item weight is 3.3 kg, and assembly is required.

Fiutazge YN-107

Rank 8

Fiutazge YN-107

∼£99

Our view

The Fiutazge YN-107 is listed at about £98.85 with two lithium-ion batteries included and a 4,000 mAh highlight. Stars are 3.6 from 41. The title says it is for a Makita battery, but UK reviews split: one says Makita packs work, and two say a Makita pack does nothing and the included packs do nothing on a Makita tool. Another review says the batteries do not work at all. Cutting width is not in the specification cell. A review used a 9-spline shaft with a hedge-trimmer attachment. The brand is Fiutazge. The part number on the listing is not the Hengriacly HY-08.

Pros

  • Two batteries are stated as included
  • 2.6 kg on the listing
  • One review praises the metal brush on paving weeds
  • 41 ratings, a larger pool than the seven-review ConBlom

Cons

  • 3.6 is the lowest star line in this set
  • A Makita fit is contradicted by two UK reviews
  • Batteries are described as dead in another review
  • No cutting width in the specification block

Best for: You want a kit with two packs in the box and will test the Makita fit yourself before you rely on it.

Less suitable: You need a proven BL18 fit, or a stated cutting width, before you pay about £98.85.

Common questions

Do the included batteries fit a Makita tool?

The specification cell says two lithium-ion batteries are included. Two UK reviews say those packs are not Makita packs: a Makita battery did nothing on this tool, and these packs did nothing on a Makita tool. One review says the opposite, that it works with Makita batteries.

What cutting width is listed?

The specification block does not print a cutting width. Item weight is 2.6 kg. Dimensions are 150 x 20 cm. Assembly is required.

Why is the star line 3.6?

amazon.co.uk prints 3.6 from 41 ratings. UK reviews include dead batteries, a head that would not fit, and no instructions, beside reviews that praise the brush wheel and the two packs.

How we compared

Eight amazon.co.uk listings are scored here. This comparison did not lab-test cutting power, runtime, noise, or whether a named pack actually runs the tool. The score is the amazon.co.uk star rating multiplied by 20 and rounded, so 4.2 becomes 84. That single rule is the whole score. The top pick is the listing that ties the highest star line, includes two batteries, names BL packs in the bullets, and has the better Grass Trimmers rank of the two listings that share one review text. Best value is the lowest price in the set, which is also the largest review pool. Neither badge means the tool is a Makita DUR or UR model.

1

Amazon.co.uk star rating

100%

The stored score is the amazon.co.uk star rating multiplied by 20 and rounded. A 4.2 becomes 84. A 3.7 becomes 74. It is not a lab test and not an editorial rank. Review-count size, a bare box, a duplicated review text and a 21 V claim stay in the written assessment. The method note prints no other percentage.

Makita grass trimmer buying guide

Separate a Makita model code from a title that only claims a Makita battery. Then check whether a pack is in the box, whether that pack is described as 18 V or as 21 V, and what the head actually cuts. Eight amazon.co.uk listings are on this page. The stored score is the star rating times 20. It is not a laboratory test.

What to check on a Makita grass trimmer

A Makita grass trimmer, in Makita UK's own range, is an 18 V LXT line trimmer such as the DUR190 or DUR192, or a corded UR3501. None of those models is among the eight amazon.co.uk listings on this page. The eight are third-party cordless sticks whose titles or bullets say they work with a Makita battery. You separate them by the brand on the housing, by whether a pack is in the box, by whether that pack is described as 18 V LXT or as the seller's 21 V cells, and by the amazon.co.uk star line.

Best for

  • You already own a Makita 18 V pack and will accept a third-party body
  • You want packs in the carton and will not treat 21 V cells as 18 V LXT

Not ideal for

  • You want a Makita DUR or UR tool rather than a compatibility claim
  • You need a proven BL18 fit, or a width printed with a unit, before you pay

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading a compatible-with title as a Makita model

Makita's own class here is a DUR190, a DUR192 or a corded UR3501. None of those codes is in this table. ConBlom, Fiutazge, GfsGsjzc, Hengriacly and YUTVCZO are the brands on the housings. A bullet that names a BL pack is a claim, not a DUR body.

  2. 2

Adding the two Hengriacly review counts

The grey and red HY-08 listings are both 4.2 from 41, the same model name, the same price and the same written reviews. Count that pool once. The red listing is ahead on rank, 64 against 87, which is why only the red listing is the top pick.

  3. 3

    Pricing a bare tool as a kit, or 21 V as 18 V LXT

A highlight that leaves the battery out is the body only. Packs in the box are not automatically genuine LXT. A title that says 21 V, or a bullet that says 18 V to 24 V, is the seller's wording. Makita UK prints 18 V for the DUR190U. Third-party packs sit outside Makita's warranty.

What to weigh up

Brand on the housing and the battery system

High

The name on the housing decides whether you are looking at a Makita tool. A DUR or UR code is Makita. ConBlom, Fiutazge, GfsGsjzc, Hengriacly and YUTVCZO are not. If you already own genuine LXT packs and want Makita's own trimmer, price a DUR body. Makita UK prints 18 V for the DUR190U. A seller's 21 V cells, or a span written as 18 V to 24 V, are not that pack. A bullet that names BL1830 or BL1850 is a claim.

What the price includes, the head, and the review pool

High

A bare highlight is the body only. On the current text that is the ConBlom AN01538, the ConBlom ZF303 and the GfsGsjzc H510-01. An older review that describes packs does not change the highlight. Fiutazge, both Hengriacly listings and the YUTVCZO state packs in the box, and included does not mean genuine LXT. Nylon is the head for a lawn edge. A metal blade or a circular saw disc is a different cutter, and it is not the nylon head Makita specifies on a DUR. Stop using chain flails.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A pack already in the shed

You already own a Makita 18 V pack and you want the lowest body price in this set. The ConBlom AN01538 is listed at about £59.99, with 3.7 from 79 amazon.co.uk ratings, the largest pool here. The highlight says the battery is not included. Bullets name BL1830 to BL1860B. Reviews also report a missing guard and a cut-out. The brand on the housing is ConBlom.

Two packs in the carton

You want batteries in the box and the joint-highest star line. The red Hengriacly HY-08 is listed at about £119.98, with 4.2 from 41 ratings, two packs in the bullets, and Grass Trimmers rank 64. The written reviews match the grey listing, so those 41 ratings are one pool. A shared review says it is not a Makita and that the nut would not fit.

A width printed with a unit

You want a stated cutting width and two packs, and you will not treat those packs as 18 V LXT. The YUTVCZO HY-13 is listed at about £119.99 with a 25 cm cut, 4.2 from 19 ratings, and two batteries the title calls 21 V. The title also says it is for a Makita battery. The specification block does not name a BL-series model.

Common questions about Makita grass trimmers

Is a listing that says it takes a Makita battery a Makita grass trimmer?
No. Makita UK's own class is an 18 V LXT line trimmer such as the DUR190 or DUR192, or a corded UR3501. None of those models is among the eight amazon.co.uk rows. The brands on the housings are ConBlom, Fiutazge, GfsGsjzc, Hengriacly and YUTVCZO. A title or a bullet that says the stick works with a Makita battery is a compatibility claim. It is not a DUR or UR model code, and it is not a test that a BL pack runs the tool.
Which listing is the top pick, and which is best value?
The top pick is the red Hengriacly HY-08: 4.2 from 41 amazon.co.uk ratings, two batteries, Makita BL names in the bullets, and Grass Trimmers rank 64. The grey HY-08 uses the same written reviews, so those 41 ratings are one pool. Best value is the ConBlom AN01538 at about £59.99, 3.7 from 79 ratings, the lowest price and the largest pool. The highlight leaves the battery out. Neither tool is a Makita model.
What should you check before the star rating?
Start with the brand on the housing. Then the battery. Makita prints 18 V for the DUR190U. A seller's 21 V cells, or an 18 V to 24 V span, are the seller's wording. A bare highlight is the body only, and packs in the box are not automatically genuine LXT. Nylon is for lawn edges. A metal disc is a different cutter, and chain flails should not be used. Read the stars after those checks. A thin pool can still print a high average.
Do the two Hengriacly 4.2 scores add up to 82 reviews?
No. The grey listing and the red listing are both 4.2 from 41, the same HY-08, the same about £119.98 price, and the same written reviews. Count that pool once. The red listing is ahead on Grass Trimmers rank, 64 against 87, which is why the red listing is the top pick and the grey listing does not take a second badge. The width cells print 10.0 and 23 with no unit. Do not treat either figure as confirmed centimetres or inches.
What do the prices in this set cover?
Captured amazon.co.uk lines run from about £59.99 to about £119.99. The two lower ConBlom rows are about £59.99 and about £62.99. The middle rows are about £89.99, about £98.85 and about £99.99. The top of this set is about £119.98 and about £119.99. A bare highlight is not a kit. Packs stated as included are not automatically genuine 18 V LXT batteries. Prices move. These are the captured lines, not a promise of the next shelf price.
Is a 21 V pack the same as an 18 V LXT battery?
No. Makita UK prints 18 V for the DUR190U. A title that says two 21 V batteries, or a bullet that says 18 V to 24 V, is the seller's wording. Naming BL1830 or BL1850 in a bullet is a claim, not proof the pack fits and runs. On one listing, UK reviews disagree about whether a Makita pack works. Third-party packs sit outside Makita's warranty. If you own no Makita packs, a 21 V kit does not join the LXT system. The detail is in the 18 V battery claims.
When should you stop and call a professional?
Call a professional when the ground hides wire, the growth is woody and a brush cutter is new to you, a cut mains lead needs an electrician, the tool will be used at work without training, or a lithium pack is swollen or unbranded. Do not splice a cut flex. Check long grass for hedgehogs before you start. Neighbour noise is a council matter, not a national Sunday ban.
Where do other cordless strimmer listings sit?
This page is one compatibility claim, not Makita's own range. A wider set of cordless sticks is in the cordless grass trimmer comparison. That page is a different comparison. It does not replace the checks here: the brand on the housing, whether a pack is in the box, whether the cells are described as 18 V or as 21 V, and whether two listings share one review text. Stars on either page are still not a lab test of cutting power.

Our verdict

The top pick is the red Hengriacly HY-08, listed at about £119.98. It ties the highest star line in this set, 4.2 from 41 amazon.co.uk ratings, includes two batteries, names Makita BL packs in the bullets, and has Grass Trimmers rank 64, ahead of the grey twin. The written reviews match that grey listing, so the 41 is not a second sample, and the tool is not a Makita DUR or UR model. Best value is the ConBlom AN01538 at about £59.99, 3.7 from 79 ratings: the lowest price and the largest pool. The highlight says the battery is not included.
