Peter F.Editor

Lawn edging is a border you set between grass and a bed, path, gravel or mulch so the line stays put and grass is slower to creep. In the United Kingdom you usually choose a flexible plastic strip with pegs, interlocking pieces you hammer in, recycled-rubber sections, galvanised steel, or weathering steel sold as corten. That word is not a steel grade. You tell a suitable edge by face height, whether the fixings are in the box, and whether the strip is thick enough to hold a straight line in your soil. Five centimetres marks a line. Around 8 to 14 cm holds low mulch. A short plastic face is a marker, not a root barrier, and a no-dig claim still fails in stone. A proud lip catches a mower or a strimmer. Fresh weathering steel can stain pale paving. Height, fixings and thickness are set out in the [lawn edging buying guide](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/lawn-edging/sub/lawn-edging-buying-guide).

The best lawn edging in detail

Nicoman scallop, grey

Rank 1

Nicoman scallop, grey

∼£47

Our view

The grey Nicoman pack is the same scalloped recycled-rubber format as the earth pack: four 120 cm sections, 4.8 m, 16 kg, concealed spikes, rank 3 in Garden Edging. The printed price is about £47.04, about £9.80 per stated metre, which is less than the earth file at about £63.80. The star line is the same 4.6 from 507, and the saved review text matches, so the grey listing does not bring a separate body of opinion. Reviewers called it easy and not the cheapest, missed the spikes at first, and drilled some holes. One buyer said the illustrated grey-versus-earth difference was not accurate. Pick grey if you want this rubber and the lower of the two saved prices. Do not buy both colours to double the evidence.

Pros

  • Lower saved price than the earth pack
  • Same stated length and weight
  • Spikes are listed
  • Rank 3 in Garden Edging

Cons

  • Still about £9.80 per metre
  • Only 4.8 m
  • Reviews are not an independent sample
  • Some holes needed drilling

Best for: You want this rubber profile in grey and you have compared the earth price on the day.

Less suitable: You need 10–20 m, or you think 507 reviews belong only to grey.

Common questions

How does the grey pack differ from the earth pack?

The saved file shows the same 120 cm scallop sections, the same 16 kg cell, and a lower price of about £47.04. The GTIN and the model code differ. The colour cell says Grey.

Why is the star rating identical?

Both files say 4.6 from 507 reviews and the same best-sellers rank. The United Kingdom review blocks in the two saved listings match, so this is shared text.

What should you check on arrival?

Look on every face of the pack for the concealed spikes. One shared review thought they had been left out. A couple of holes needed drilling.

Nicoman scallop, earth

Rank 2

Nicoman scallop, earth

∼£64

Our view

Nicoman’s earth pack is four scalloped sections of 120 cm, 4.8 m in total, in recycled rubber, at about £63.80. That is about £13.29 per stated metre, the highest in this set, and the weight cell is 16 kg. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 507 reviews and rank 3 in Garden Edging. The same star line and the same saved review blocks appear on the grey ASIN, so do not add the two counts together. Bullets include concealed spikes. United Kingdom reviewers found it easy, said it can sit on the grass, and also drilled a couple of holes and struggled to spot the spikes. One reviewer said the photo gap between grey and earth was not what they saw. It is the heavy, short-run option. It is a poor buy if you need 20 m.

Pros

  • Recycled rubber, scalloped profile
  • Concealed spikes are listed
  • 4.6 from 507 reviews
  • Can sit on the grass, in one UK review

Cons

  • About £13.29 per metre
  • Only 4.8 m in the pack
  • 16 kg to move
  • Review text is shared with the grey listing

Best for: You want a short run of heavy rubber and the earth colour, and you will look for the hidden spikes.

Less suitable: You need a long cheap line, or you are choosing on review count alone.

Common questions

How much lawn edging is in the earth pack?

Four sections of 120 cm, so 4.8 m, at about £63.80. The weight cell is 16 kg. The material cell says recycled tyres.

Are the spikes in the box?

The bullets say concealed installation spikes and pre-cut holes. One United Kingdom review thought they were missing, then found them in the pack.

Is the 4.6 from 507 reviews only about this colour?

The star line matches the grey ASIN, and the saved United Kingdom blocks match that file. Treat them as shared parent text, not a second sample.

Aslhuioo 10 m

Rank 3

Aslhuioo 10 m

∼£24

Our view

Aslhuioo is a black plastic roll at about £23.74. The title says 10 m, 5 cm high, with 30 pegs, and a bullet says 0.12 inch thick and PE. That is about 3 mm, and about £2.37 per metre if the title length is what arrives. The dimensions cell says 10 mm by 10 mm, so the length is not clean. amazon.co.uk shows 4.6 from 45 reviews, rank 175 in Garden Edging. The bullet says no dig, a rubber mallet, and that rocky soil may damage the stakes. Thirty-three United Kingdom reviews are in the file. They praise flexibility and a lawn-and-gravel split. Stakes snap, and the coil wants unrolling before a straight line. A cons line says avoid mowers. One review says the opposite. The star rating is high and the review count is small.

Pros

  • 30 pegs with a 10 m title
  • Thickness is stated as 0.12 inch
  • No-dig steps are in the bullets
  • Flexible, in UK reviews

Cons

  • Only 45 reviews
  • Dimensions cell conflicts with the title
  • Stakes snap
  • A cons line says not near a mower

Best for: You want about 10 m of pegged plastic and you will ignore the 10 mm dimensions cell.

Less suitable: You want a length that the listing states only once, or a large UK review count.

Common questions

How many pegs are in the Aslhuioo kit?

The title says 30 pegs with 10 m of edging, 5 cm high. A bullet says the stakes are 5.7 inches and that you should use one every two or three holes.

Which length figure should you trust?

The title says 32 ft or 10 m. The dimensions cell says 10 mm by 10 mm. Those cannot both describe the product. The price per metre above uses the title only.

What did UK reviewers say?

They called it easy and flexible. One said some stakes snapped but that plenty were supplied. A cons line in the saved listing advises against heavy traffic and use near a mower. Another review said it works with the mower.

UNIGARDIA 12 m, 55 mm

Rank 4

UNIGARDIA 12 m, 55 mm

∼£50

Our view

This UNIGARDIA set is 12 one-metre elements of black recycled plastic, 55 mm high and 4 mm thick, with 50 anchors of 18 cm, at about £49.99. That is about £4.17 per metre, dearer than the 20 m coils. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 641 reviews. The bullet says you connect the pieces and do not dig, and it claims more than 25 years, which is a listing sentence rather than a trial. The weight cell is 400 g. United Kingdom reviews praise a clean edge between chips and grass, and they warn that pegs bend or snap and that a kink fights a straight run. Buy it when you want short sections instead of one long coil. Skip it if about £50 for 12 m is more than you meant to spend.

Pros

  • 4 mm thickness and 50 pegs are stated
  • Pieces of 1 m are easier to place than a 20 m coil
  • 4.5 from 641 reviews
  • Made in Poland on the listing

Cons

  • About £4.17 per metre
  • Pegs bend or break in hard or stony ground
  • A kink can spoil a straight line
  • The 25-year line is a listing claim

Best for: You want 12 joinable sections and you will soften the soil before the pegs go in.

Less suitable: You want 20 m for under £20, or a steel edge.

Common questions

How long is one UNIGARDIA piece?

The listing says one element is 100 cm long and 5.5 cm high, 8 cm wide and 4 mm thick. Twelve pieces make the 12 m set.

Are 50 pegs included?

Yes. The title says 50 fixing pegs, and a bullet gives the anchor length as 18 cm.

What went wrong in UK reviews?

Pegs bend if the soil is not soft, and they break on stone. Some lengths have a slight kink, which makes a perfect straight line harder. Reviewers still called it solid once it was in.

Harbour Housewares 5 m steel

Rank 5

Harbour Housewares 5 m steel

∼£30

Our view

Harbour Housewares is the galvanised option in this set: 5 m of black steel in five pieces, an 8 cm face, and integral 8 cm spikes, at about £29.99. That is about £6 per stated metre. The dimensions cell includes 0.1 cm, which is 1 mm. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 224 reviews, rank 9 in Garden Edging. The listing allows straight runs or sweeping curves and does not print a step sequence. United Kingdom reviews like the look and the height, and they complain about clips, cutting a short piece, bent cardboard, and a later delivery that did not match the first. Choose it when you want steel rather than a plastic coil. It is not weathering steel, and the join is the awkward part.

Pros

  • Galvanised steel, not a rust finish
  • 8 cm face and integral spikes
  • 4.5 from 224 reviews
  • Five pieces with a locking join

Cons

  • About £6 per metre, dearer than the plastic kits
  • Clips are fiddly in UK reviews
  • No instruction sheet, in one review
  • A repeat order did not match, in one review

Best for: You want a black steel line with spikes already on the sections.

Less suitable: You want the cheapest length, or a rust-coloured corten finish.

Common questions

Is this Harbour Housewares edge galvanised steel?

Yes. The title says black galvanised steel, 5 m, with an 8 cm face. The material cell says steel.

Are the spikes separate?

No. The bullet says each panel has 8 cm spikes formed from the same piece of metal, plus a dual locking join.

What did UK reviewers say about fitting it?

They tapped it in with a mallet and cut it with a hacksaw or a multi-tool blade. Several found the clips fiddly, one had no instructions, and one repeat order arrived as a different product.

Velway 20 m black

Rank 6

Velway 20 m black

∼£35

Our view

Velway is a 20 m black plastic coil, 5 cm high, with 60 ground anchors, at about £35.41. That is about £1.77 per metre from the title, more than the brown 20 m kit at about £19.49. Thickness is not stated. The weight cell is 3.24 kg. amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 156 reviews, rank 25 in Garden Edging. Only four of the saved review blocks are from the United Kingdom. Those four call it easy to cut, and one says the pegs were too weak for the chosen ground. The unit-count cell says 1.0 millilitre, which does not describe a 20 m strip. Use it as a black 20 m kit with pegs, and do not treat the 156-review line as 156 United Kingdom write-ups.

Pros

  • 20 m and 60 stakes
  • About £1.77 per stated metre
  • Polypropylene is named in a bullet
  • Easy to cut, in a UK review

Cons

  • No thickness printed
  • Dearer than the other 20 m kit
  • Pegs failed in one UK garden
  • Most saved review text is not from the UK

Best for: You want a black 20 m coil with stakes and you have tested the soil.

Less suitable: You want a stated thickness, or you are comparing on UK review volume.

Common questions

What comes in the Velway box?

The style cell says 20 m with 60 ground anchors. The title says black flexible plastic, 5 cm high. Thickness is not stated.

How many United Kingdom reviews are in the saved file?

Four. The star line is 4.5 from 156 reviews. The other blocks in the first 50 are not United Kingdom reviews and were not used.

What did those UK reviews say about the pegs?

One reviewer said the plastic pegs were not strong enough for their circle and told you to test the ground first. Others called it easy to cut and good value.

VOUNOT 20 m brown

Rank 7

VOUNOT 20 m brown

∼£19

Our view

This VOUNOT listing is the clearest flexible-plastic kit in the saved set: 20 m of brown strip, 5 cm high, 4 mm thick, and 60 pegs of 20 cm, at about £19.49. That is about £0.97 per metre from the title length. amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 7,464 reviews, and the saved rank is 2 in Garden Edging. The bullet says you do not dig. United Kingdom reviews praise the price and the curves, and they also say grass can still creep, spikes can break, and solid ground needs a drill. It leads this set on review evidence and on price per unambiguous metre, which is why it is the top pick. The best-value badge is on a different listing, so this one does not hold both. It is a light bed line, not a steel mowing edge.

Pros

  • 20 m and 60 pegs at about £19.49
  • 4 mm thickness is stated
  • 4.4 from 7,464 reviews
  • Bullet says no digging

Cons

  • A 5 cm face does not stop all grass, in one UK review
  • Spikes can break
  • Hard ground needed a drill
  • Plastic, not a steel mowing strip

Best for: You want the longest cheap plastic kit in this set, with pegs in the box, for beds and gentle curves.

Less suitable: You need a straight steel line the mower can ride, or a face taller than 5 cm.

Common questions

Are the pegs included with this VOUNOT strip?

Yes. The title and the bullets say 60 anchoring pegs, 20 cm long, with 20 m of 5 cm plastic strip.

Does the listing say you have to dig a trench?

The bullet says no digging is required. You place the strip and secure it with the pegs. United Kingdom reviews still describe hard ground that needed a drill.

What did UK reviewers say about grass and the pegs?

Reviewers called it easy to bend and cheap for the length. One said it does not stop all grass. One said three spikes broke. Another used a drill where the ground was solid.

UNIGARDIA 20 m, 13 cm

Rank 8

UNIGARDIA 20 m, 13 cm

∼£25

Our view

This UNIGARDIA listing is a 20 m brown strip, 13 cm high and 3 mm thick, at about £24.99, about £1.25 per metre before you buy anchors. The bullet says the anchors are not in the box. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 355 reviews. Only 14 of the first 50 saved blocks are United Kingdom reviews. Those reviews like the wood effect and the length, and they say the strip will not stay down, looks flimsy, and was scratched by a strimmer. The bullet still claims mower resistance and a life over 30 years. The height is the point if you need a taller face. The missing pegs are the reason not to treat the headline price as a finished edge.

Pros

  • 13 cm face on 20 m
  • 3 mm is stated
  • Wood-effect brown
  • About £1.25 per metre for the strip alone

Cons

  • Pegs are not included
  • UK reviews could not hold a straight line
  • A strimmer scratched it, against the bullet
  • The 30-year line is a listing claim

Best for: You already have stakes and you want a taller brown plastic face.

Less suitable: You expect a complete no-dig kit, or a line that stays straight on its own.

Common questions

Do the ground anchors come with this 13 cm strip?

No. The bullet says anchors are not included and that you can buy them in a pack of 40. Photos that show stakes are what two United Kingdom reviewers called misleading.

How thick and how tall is it?

The listing says 3.0 mm thick and 130 mm high, 20 m long, brown polyethylene with a wood effect. The weight cell is 5.7 kg.

What happened when people tried to keep it straight?

United Kingdom reviews say it is too bendy for a straight edge, even with stakes every 50 cm, and that it does not stay without pegs. One strimmer scratched the face. The bullet claims resistance to string and rotary mowers.

Ergohortus 10 m

Rank 9

Ergohortus 10 m

∼£19

Our view

Ergohortus is a black polyethylene strip at about £18.99. The title says 10 m and 50 pegs, so about £1.90 per metre, and a highlight says 5 cm high. A bullet says 32 feet and 1.96 inches. Thickness is not printed. amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 87 reviews, rank 11 in Garden Edging. The no-dig bullet tells you to peg every three holes and to wet dry soil. United Kingdom reviews like it between stones and lawn once the ground is clear, and they also say the line walks sideways as you hammer and that it would not stay straight. It is a cheap short kit. It is a weak choice if a straight edge is the whole point.

Pros

  • 50 pegs named in the title
  • Low shelf price for a kit
  • No-dig wording is explicit
  • Useful between stones and lawn, in one review

Cons

  • Strip thickness is not stated
  • UK reviews could not keep it straight
  • Stones still have to come out
  • Only 87 reviews

Best for: You want a low-priced 10 m kit and a slightly wavy line is acceptable.

Less suitable: You want a crisp straight edge or a printed thickness.

Common questions

How many pegs does Ergohortus include?

The title and the closing bullet say 50 pegs with a strip the title calls 10 m. A bullet says each spiral peg is 5.9 inches. Strip thickness is not stated.

Is it really no-dig?

The bullet says you do not dig, and that you should moisten dry soil. It also says rocky soil may damage the stakes. United Kingdom reviews describe clearing stones before the pegs would go in.

Why did UK reviewers struggle with a straight line?

One said it would not stay straight. Another said hammering a peg pulls the border sideways. Another said there are not enough pegs for every hole.

Kasky hammer-in pieces

Rank 10

Kasky hammer-in pieces

∼£13

Our view

Kasky is interlocking recycled plastic you hammer in, made in the Czech Republic, at about £12.99. The title, unit count and dimensions say 2.14 m, the weight is 880 g, and number of items is 14. A bullet says 175 pieces and 26.7 m. That conflict is why it has no price per metre in the table. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 365 reviews, rank 10 in Garden Edging. The bullets promise no trench and hard-ground performance. United Kingdom reviews include a lawn the pieces would not enter, joints that separated, and a poor smooth curve. The listing’s temperature and trimmer lines are claims. Order it only if you accept the shorter title length unless the box proves otherwise.

Pros

  • Low shelf price
  • No separate pegs to lose
  • 4.2 from 365 reviews
  • Origin stated as the Czech Republic

Cons

  • Title length and bullet length disagree
  • May not enter firm turf
  • Joints separate while you hammer
  • Not a smooth curve, in one UK review

Best for: You want a short hammer-in edge and you will check the piece count on arrival.

Less suitable: You are buying it as 26.7 m because one bullet says so.

Common questions

Is this Kasky kit 2.14 m or 26.7 m?

The title, the unit count, the dimensions cell and the highlight say 2.14 m. One bullet says 175 pieces of 15 x 13 cm and a total of 26.7 m. Number of items is 14. Both are in the saved listing. Do not pick the longer one for a price per metre.

How does it fix?

The bullets say you hammer the pieces in with a rubber mallet and that you do not dig a trench. There is no separate peg pack. A bullet claims resistance to lawn trimmers and a range of -40 °C to 80 °C.

What did UK reviewers find in the ground?

One could not get the pieces into a lawn even after rain. Others said joints came apart while hammering, and that a smooth curve does not work. It was fine where the ground was not solid.

UNIGARDIA corten 10 m

Rank 11

UNIGARDIA corten 10 m

∼£38

Our view

UNIGARDIA’s corten listing is 10 m long, 14 cm high and 0.6 mm thick, at about £37.99, about £3.80 per metre, with gloves and no named stakes. The bullet says it is corten alloy rather than a rust spray, and that a patchy patina on arrival is not a defect. amazon.co.uk shows 3.8 from 696 reviews, the lowest star line in this set, rank 12 in Garden Edging. Forty-four United Kingdom blocks were read. They like the colour and say the gloves keep rust dust off the hands. They also say the coil will not lie straight, bends under a foot, and needs a trench. Nothing on the listing shows an EN 10025-5 grade. Buy it only if a thin rust-coloured ribbon is enough. Do not expect a rigid landscape edge.

Pros

  • 14 cm face and a stated 0.6 mm gauge
  • Gloves are in the box
  • Colour is what reviewers praise
  • About £3.80 per metre

Cons

  • 0.6 mm is thin for a straight line
  • 3.8 from 696 reviews
  • Kinks and bends if stepped on
  • No grade and no stakes named

Best for: You want a low-cost rust colour and you will trench a line that may wave.

Less suitable: You want a crisp edge, pale paving hard against the steel, or trade-thickness metal.

Common questions

How thick is this UNIGARDIA corten strip?

Are stakes included?

A pair of assembly gloves is included. Separate ground stakes are not named. United Kingdom reviews describe digging the strip in.

Why is the rating 3.8 from 696 reviews?

That is the saved amazon.co.uk line. United Kingdom reviews praise the colour and the gloves, and they say the metal is thin, wavy, kinked, and bends if you step on it.

Laitejituan corten 5 m

Laitejituan corten 5 m

Our view

Laitejituan is a 5 m corten-style border at about £28.99, about £5.80 per stated metre. The dimensions cell is 5 m by 0.15 m and the weight is 2 kg. Gloves are included. Thickness, stake count and a steel grade are not in the file. The saved amazon.co.uk saved listing has no star line and no reviews, and the rank is 88,739 in Garden and 491 in Garden Edging. Bullets say you can shape curves or straight lines and that rusting continues. There is no United Kingdom review to confirm either claim. It is an incomplete listing next to the 0.6 mm corten coil, which at least prints a gauge and has 696 reviews. Do not treat the missing stars as a score of zero, and do not assume the metal matches trade weathering steel.

Pros

  • 5 m at about £28.99
  • Gloves are mentioned
  • A height figure exists on the dimensions cell
  • Curves are claimed

Cons

  • No star line and no reviews
  • No thickness and no stake count
  • No steel grade
  • Rank 491 in Garden Edging

Best for: You only need a placeholder rust-colour strip and you will inspect gauge on arrival.

Less suitable: You want reviews, a printed thickness, or a known grade.

Common questions

Is there an amazon.co.uk star rating in the saved file?

No. There is no Customer Reviews line and no review text. The missing line is not a zero-star rating from buyers.

What size is printed?

The title says 5 metres. The dimensions cell says 5 m by 0.15 m. Weight is 2 kg. Thickness and stake count are not stated. The material cell says corten steel and the colour cell says Iron.

Does the listing show a steel grade?

No. It describes a weathered rust look and says the rust continues. It does not name EN 10025-5 or a thickness.

How we compared

Twelve amazon.co.uk listings were scored from the saved files on 23 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test and not a garden trial. The badge arithmetic multiplies the star rating by 16, rounds it, adds a review-count bump, then applies penalties. A 4.4 line from 7,464 reviews is 70 plus 12, which is 82, the highest result, so that listing is the top pick. Best value is the highest result at or under £30 with at least 100 reviews, excluding that top pick: the galvanised 5 m listing, 77 after a deduction for the 1 mm cell. The figure on each card is the saved editorial score on a 1 to 10 scale. Prices and stars are the saved amazon.co.uk figures.

1

Star rating

80%

amazon.co.uk stars multiplied by 16, then rounded. Five stars is 80, which is the weight. A 4.4 line is 70 before the sample bump. The star line is the saved UK listing, not a laboratory score.

2

Review sample and listing checks

20%

The bump is 12 at 1,000 reviews or more, 8 at 100 or more, 4 at 30 or more, 0 at 10 or more, and minus 8 under 10. A missing Customer Reviews line scores 0. Shared review text is minus 6, missing anchors are minus 4, and a spec cell that contradicts the title is minus 3. This share is weighted 20 so the two criteria sum to 100.

Lawn edging buying guide

Choose the job first: a cheap curve, a straight mowing line, a heavy short section, or a rust-coloured feature. Then check the fixings are in the box, the face height, and the thickness in millimetres. Measure along the curve. If the title and a bullet disagree, do not use the longer length. A proud lip catches a mower, and fresh weathering steel can stain pale paving.

What is lawn edging?

A lawn edge is the line between grass and whatever sits beside it: a bed, a path, gravel or mulch. You buy lawn edging so that line stays put and grass is slower to creep. In the United Kingdom the usual choices are a flexible plastic strip with pegs, interlocking pieces you hammer in, short recycled-rubber sections, galvanised steel, and weathering steel sold as corten. A word such as corten is not a grade.

Best for

  • A long bed edge where you will test one peg in the soil
  • A straight galvanised line if you will accept a fiddly join

Not ideal for

  • Stony ground if you are relying on plastic pegs and a no-dig claim
  • Pale paving hard against fresh weathering steel

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Measuring the curve as a straight line

Length is the run along the curve, plus overlap. A straight measurement on a plan comes up short once the edge bends. If the title and a bullet disagree, do not use the longer figure to invent a price per metre.

  2. 2

    Reading no-dig as any ground

A no-dig bullet means you peg or hammer without a trench. Plastic pegs still bend or snap in stone, and hammer-in pieces may not enter firm turf. United Kingdom reviews describe drills, snapped stakes and stones that had to come out first.

  3. 3

Counting pegs the box does not contain

Photos can show stakes that are a separate pack. A tall strip without anchors will not stay put. Two colours that share one review text are one sample, not two. The highest star line is not automatically the edge that fits your soil.

What to weigh up

Face height, fixings and thickness

High

Face height is the part you see and the part that holds mulch. Five centimetres marks a line. It does not stop grass. Around 8 to 14 cm holds low mulch. A taller plastic face still needs anchors. If the listing says those anchors are a separate pack, the headline price is the strip alone, and photos of stakes can be what reviewers later call misleading. Thickness is whether the line stays straight. Read the millimetres. Trade steel is often a few millimetres thick.

Length, soil and the mower

High

Length is the distance along the curve, plus overlap, not the straight line on a plan. A coil that looks long on a drawing comes up short once it bends. If the title and a bullet disagree, do not use the longer number to invent a price per metre. One saved listing prints 2.14 m in the title and 26.7 m in a bullet. Another prints 10 mm against a 10 m title. Use the title length, then check the box. Soil comes next. Plastic pegs are for ground you can push into.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A long bed edge

You want a long plastic line and you will test one peg in the soil before you commit. The VOUNOT kit is 20 m of brown strip, 5 cm high and 4 mm thick, with 60 pegs, at about £19.49. It is 4.4 from 7,464 reviews. A 5 cm face does not stop all grass.

A straight steel line

You want a galvanised line and you will accept a fiddly clip. Harbour Housewares is 5 m of black steel, an 8 cm face and integral spikes, at about £29.99, with 4.5 from 224 reviews. Reviews mention a mallet, a hacksaw and clips that are awkward. It is not weathering steel.

A rust-coloured edge

You want weathering steel, you have read the thickness, and pale slabs are not against the metal. The UNIGARDIA corten listing prints 0.6 mm, 14 cm high and 10 m, at about £37.99, with gloves and no named stakes. The line is 3.8 from 696 reviews. It can kink, and it does not show an EN grade.

Common questions about lawn edging

What is lawn edging?
Lawn edging is a border between grass and a bed, path, gravel or mulch. You use it so the line stays put and grass is slower to creep. In the UK the usual materials are flexible plastic with pegs, hammer-in pieces, recycled rubber, galvanised steel, and weathering steel. A 5 cm face marks a line. It does not stop every root. Around 8 to 14 cm holds low mulch. Check that the fixings are in the box, and read the thickness in millimetres before you compare two coils.
How much does lawn edging cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this saved set, flexible plastic with pegs is about £19 to £36 for 10 to 20 m. A 12 m recycled-plastic set sits around £50. Galvanised steel is about £30 for 5 m. Thin corten coils are about £29 to £38 for 5 to 10 m. Recycled-rubber sections are about £47 to £64 for 4.8 m. If two length figures conflict, do not rank on the cheaper one. These are printed prices from the saved files, not a live crawl.
What should you check before you buy lawn edging?
Check the job first: a cheap curve, a straight mowing line, a heavy short section, or a rust-coloured feature. Then check that pegs or spikes are in the box. A tall strip with anchors sold separately will not stay put. Read face height and thickness in millimetres. Measure along the curve and add overlap. Plastic pegs fail in stony ground. A proud lip catches a mower. Fresh weathering steel can stain pale paving. A word such as corten is not a steel grade.
Does no-dig lawn edging work in any soil?
No. A no-dig claim means the listing says you peg or hammer the edge without a trench. It still fails in stone. Plastic pegs bend or snap in hard ground, and United Kingdom reviews on several coils describe a drill, snapped stakes, or stones that had to come out first. Hammer-in pieces may not enter firm turf. Moistening dry soil is a listing tip, not a promise for rocky ground. Test one peg before you buy a long run.
Will corten lawn edging stain paving?
It can. Weathering steel is meant to go orange, and early runoff is rust-coloured water. Straightcurve and The Metal Hut both warn that this stains pale paving. A title that says corten has not shown an EN 10025-5 grade, and a thin coil is not trade steel. Keep pale slabs off the metal, or accept marks. A patchy patina on delivery is described on one listing as normal, not as proof of a grade. Gloves in the box do not change the runoff.
Can you return lawn edging that is not as described?
You claim against the seller of that offer. The Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 22, gives 30 days to reject goods that are not as described. A length bullet that disagrees with the title, or photos of pegs the box does not contain, is the sort of mismatch that right is for. It is not a thickness standard. Nothing here sets a compulsory gauge for domestic lawn edging. Keep the listing text that you relied on.
When should you get someone in to fit lawn edging?
Call someone in when the strip must hold a bank, when plans show a service, when you strike anything unexpected, or when the run is a listed building or a highway boundary. Before a trench by the house, use LinesearchbeforeUdig. Plans only indicate a service. A low bed edge is landscaping. A tall boundary is not, and in England enclosure height limits are a different rule. Steel borders in more depth are in the metal lawn edging comparison.
Is a 5 cm plastic face a root barrier?
No. Five centimetres marks a line between grass and a bed. It does not stop all grass, which is what United Kingdom reviews on the short plastic coils say as well. Around 8 to 14 cm holds low mulch. A taller strip still needs fixings in the box, or it will not stay down. Treat a no-dig sentence as a way of placing it, not as a promise that roots will stop at the plastic.

Our verdict

The top pick is the VOUNOT 20 m brown plastic kit. On the badge arithmetic, 4.4 from 7,464 reviews is 70 plus a sample bump of 12, which is 82, the highest result in this set. It includes 60 pegs, a stated 4 mm and a 5 cm face, at about £19.49. It is a light bed line, not a steel mowing edge. The best value is Harbour Housewares 5 m galvanised steel at about £29.99, 4.5 from 224 reviews, scored 77 after a deduction for the 1 mm cell. That is the highest result at or under £30 with at least 100 reviews, once the top pick is set aside. Neither figure is a garden trial.
