Top pick: Gerber Shard (silver) – Score 94 from 4.6 stars and 5,463 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest sample, at about £10.00. A bladeless plate with a cross driver, not a lab test. Best value: Nite Ize DoohicKey (black) – About £6.00, score 92, the lowest saved price among rows scoring 84 or above, with 4.4 from 4,219 reviews. Updated 23 October 2026.
A multi tool key ring is a small steel tool for your keys, a bag clip, or a belt loop. In the UK you buy one because the house keys are already out when a parcel, a bottle cap, a loose screw, or a hose clip turns up. It is a plate or a mini folder, not a mower, secateurs, or a full pliers multitool. Judge it by construction and by the job you repeat, not by a printed function count. A few grams on a one-piece plate and about 100 g on a folding set are different pockets. Check whether the listing names a blade, a cutter, or a lock. Attachment is a lanyard hole, a spring clip, or a named key organiser. Imperial hex openings do not fit a metric hose clip unless the size matches. On GOV.UK the folding-pocketknife exception is a non-locking blade of no more than 3 inches. Read the [UK carry rules for a key-ring tool](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/multi-tool-key-ring/sub/multi-tool-key-ring-uk-carry-rules) before a pointed or locking tool goes into a public pocket. This is not legal advice.

Across 5,463 amazon.co.uk reviews, the Gerber Shard is a 16.8 g one-piece plate used as a pry, a bottle opener, and a screwdriver, including on cardboard and large staples. The listing names small and large flat drivers plus a cross driver, a pry bar, and a lanyard hole, with no blade and no lock. At about £10.00 its score of 94 is stars and review volume, not a strength test, and the material field says titanium while the bullets say stainless steel with a titanium nitride coating. Reviewers call it worth carrying on a cycling or camping key fob, and they also say it only gets you out of a hole. One UK reviewer found it poor on a keychain, and a pry used as a box cutter may not be sharp. The comparison notes hold 14 UK review bodies against that headline, and there is no carabiner or hex size.
Pros
Pry bar, bottle opener, and flat plus cross drivers on a 16.8 g plate
UK reviewers use it on cardboard and to pull large staples
No blade and no lock stated on the listing
4.6 from 5,463 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest sample in this set
Cons
Lanyard hole only, so it does not clip off the ring like a carabiner
Reviewers say it gets you out of a hole and is not a dedicated driver
One UK reviewer found it poor on a keychain
Material field says titanium; the bullets say coated stainless steel
Best for: You want a bladeless plate with a cross driver and you can live without a clip.
Less suitable: You need a carabiner, a ruler, or imperial hex openings.
The listing names no blade and no lock. Reviewers use the pry on cardboard. A pry used as a box cutter may not be sharp.
How does it attach?
It has a lanyard hole, not a carabiner. The item-weight field is 16.8 g and the saved price is about £10.00.
What do UK reviews repeat?
Reviewers name the pry, the bottle opener, and the screwdriver, including on cardboard and large staples. They also say it only gets you out of a hole, and one found it poor on a keychain.
The Orbitkey Multi-Tool V2 is a slim insert of about 13.6 g and 6.8 by 1.8 by 0.2 cm, made for an Orbitkey organiser rather than as a nine-piece kit. The saved price is about £9.95, with 4.5 from 490 reviews, and the bullets say 420 stainless steel with a titanium coating. Reviewers call it sleek and use the bottle opener and the box opener. Drivers are not split into flat and cross on the Amazon bullets, and some people say they have not tried the screwdrivers yet. One buyer returned it because the box cutter was useless, another found it small in the hand, and the black coating fades. A reviewer who sharpened the edge liked it more afterwards. Score 89 is listing arithmetic, and it does not replace a pliers multitool.
Pros
Fits an Orbitkey organiser and can also sit on a keyring
Bottle opener and box opener are the functions reviewers actually use
About 13.6 g and called sleek in UK reviews
4.5 from 490 amazon.co.uk reviews
Cons
Does not replace a pliers multitool or a penknife
A little small for some hands
One buyer returned it because the box cutter was useless
Black coating fades, and one reviewer sharpened the edge before liking it
Best for: You already use an Orbitkey organiser and want a slim insert on the same ring.
Less suitable: You need scissors, a thick pry, or a tool that works without that organiser.
The Uadme folder is about £8.99 and about 100 g, with cross and slot drivers in two sizes, a hex bit, a star bit, a bottle opener, a box opener, and a carabiner. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.5 from only seven reviews, so this row takes no badge. One UK review calls the stainless build solid and bigger than expected. Others call the layout clumsy, the blade blunt, and the driver count too high for the size. Only three UK review bodies are in the notes. Score 71 follows that thin count, and a 4.5 here is not the same evidence as 4.5 on the Orbitkey’s 490 reviews. You are buying a folding bunch with almost no UK commentary on the pivot.
Pros
Listing names cross, slot, hex, and star drivers plus a bottle opener
Carabiner for rings, loops, and backpacks
One review calls the stainless build solid and bigger than expected
Cons
Only seven amazon.co.uk reviews, and three UK bodies in the notes
Layout called clumsy, and the blade called blunt
Too many drivers for the size, in that small sample
About 100 g, so it is not a flat plate on the ring
Best for: You want a folding driver bunch and you have seen both the 100 g weight and the seven-review count.
Less suitable: You are reading 4.5 as if it were a large sample.
The listing has 4.5 from only seven reviews. Fewer than 50 reviews means no badge. The score of 71 is that thin count, not a failed strength test.
Is a lock stated?
No lock is stated. A box opener is listed, and a review calls a blade blunt. The carabiner is for rings, loops, and backpacks.
What do the few UK notes say?
One calls the build solid and bigger than expected. Others call the layout clumsy and the driver count too high for the size. Only three UK review bodies are in the notes.
At about £6.00 and about 9 g, the Nite Ize DoohicKey is a one-piece plate with a spring clip, a flat driver, a listed box cutter, a bottle opener, and openings of 1/4 in, 5/16 in, and 3/8 in. UK reviewers clip it on and off a keyring so a house key is not the bottle opener, and several say it stayed on the keys for a year. The listing does not claim a cross driver or a lock, and pry shows up in reviews rather than in the feature line. Buyers who like it say the metal does not bend, while others call it too small, the bottle opener slow, the pry almost useless for lack of leverage, and the box edge not sharp enough. Item weight is 9 g and a bullet says 12 g, on a plate about 65 mm long. Score 92 is 4.4 from 4,219 reviews, with 50 UK review bodies in the notes, which makes it the best value row on price among the high scores.
Pros
About £6.00 plate with a carabiner-style clip and three imperial hex openings
Reviewers keep it on the keys so a house key is not the opener
One-piece metal that UK buyers say does not bend
Box opener used on parcels
Cons
Flat driver only; no cross driver on the listing
Pry called almost useless when the keys stay on the ring
Bottle opener and box edge called slow or not sharp enough
Bullet weight 12 g and item weight 9 g do not match
Best for: You want the lower-priced clip-on plate and the imperial hexes, and you do not need a cross driver.
Less suitable: You need a cross driver, or a thin pry and a spring clip already annoy you.
No. The listing names a flat driver, a box cutter, a bottle opener, and imperial openings of 1/4 in, 5/16 in, and 3/8 in. No lock is stated.
How does it attach?
It uses a carabiner-style spring clip. The item-weight field is 9 g and a bullet says 12 g. The saved price is about £6.00.
What do UK reviews repeat?
Reviewers clip it on and off a keyring and say the metal does not bend. Others call it too small, the bottle opener slow, and the pry weak if the keys stay on the ring.
The gold FLRMINGE is a key-shaped flat at about £6.99 and 23 g, sharing one 4.4-from-237 review pool with the black and silver ASINs. The title says 20-in-1 while a bullet says 22 tools, so the tally is not a parts count you can trust. Shared UK reviews praise the key shape, gift use, and a working bottle opener. The same text complains about pocket catch, length against a latch key, wrong colours, and metal that feels soft. No lock is stated and no carabiner is named, and the hex wrench has no sizes. Treat this row as the gold finish of that one sample, not as a separate group of 237 people.
Pros
Key shape that shared reviews say belongs on a ring
Bottle opener used, and several buyers mention it as a gift
About £6.99, with no lock stated on the listing
Cons
The 237 reviews are shared with the black and silver ASINs
Title says 20-in-1 and a bullet says 22 tools
Pocket catch, and a soft-metal complaint in the shared text
Wrong-colour comments sit in the same review pool
Best for: You want this key-shaped plate in gold and you will not add the three colour counts together.
Less suitable: You need a review sample that belongs only to gold, or a short plate that will not catch in a pocket.
No. The gold, black, and silver listings share one 4.4-from-237 pool. Do not add the three counts together.
Is a lock stated?
No lock is stated. The bullets name a box opener and a cord cutter. The hex wrench has no sizes.
What do the shared reviews say?
They praise the key shape and a working bottle opener, including as a gift. They also mention pocket catch, length against a latch key, and wrong colours.
The black FLRMINGE is the same key-shaped family at about £6.99 and 23 g, with the same 4.4 from 237 reviews as the gold and silver listings. The title says 20-in-1 and one bullet says 21 tools, listing a hex wrench, pry bar, box opener, wire stripper, cable cutter, nail file, ruler, and protractor, without hex sizes. Shared reviews call it handy on a ring and sturdy, and they mention the bottle opener. They also say it is longer than short keys, catches on pocket fabric, and has sharp edges. Colour misses are in that shared text, including silver orders that arrived black. Score 85 matches the other two colours because the arithmetic is one pool.
Pros
Shared reviews call the build sturdy and the key shape handy on a ring
Bottle opener and hex openings are functions people say they use
Listing names a pry bar, box opener, and a short ruler
About £6.99, and no lock is stated
Cons
Same 237-review text as the silver and gold ASINs
Catches in the pocket because it is longer than short keys
Sharp edges in the pocket, and one soft-metal comment
Colour misses in the shared text, both ways
Best for: You want the black finish and you treat the reviews as one shared sample.
Less suitable: You need a measured blade length, or a review count that belongs only to black.
The silver FLRMINGE is a 23 g key-shaped plate at about £6.99, with the same 4.4 from 237 reviews and the same review text as the black and gold ASINs. The title and the bullet both say 20 tools, and reviewers say it looks like a key on a ring. They name a bottle opener, a screwdriver, and hex openings, although the bullet list itself does not say bottle opener. It is often bought as a card or a Christmas gift, and several people call the steel sturdy. It is also longer than short keys, catches on pocket fabric, and has sharp edges. At least one silver order arrived black, and there is no carabiner or lock on the listing.
Pros
Reviewers say it looks like a key and stays on the ring
Bottle opener, screwdriver, and hex openings are the jobs they name
Often bought as a card or Christmas gift
About £6.99 with no lock stated
Cons
The 237 reviews are not unique to the silver ASIN
Longer than short keys and catches on pocket fabric
Sharp edges in a pocket
Bottle opener is in the reviews, not in the bullet list
Best for: You want a silver gift plate and your pocket can take a key longer than a latch key.
Less suitable: You carry only short keys, or you are counting 237 reviews as silver alone.
The Lever Gear Clip KT is the dearest row here at about £17.95, a 21.2 g carabiner plate in 420 stainless steel that the listing says you unclip when you need a handle. The saved line is 4.3 from 96 reviews, and only nine UK review bodies are in the notes. Buyers who like it used it more than they expected, and one clipped it to a bag on a hike when a trekking-pole clamp needed help. The listing includes a bottle opener, a screwdriver, a box opener, a cord cutter, and a pocket pry, and it also says TSA approved, which is seller copy rather than UK cabin clearance. Reviewers call it well made and also pricey. The lifetime warranty on the listing excludes wear and tear, and score 79 follows the smaller sample.
Pros
Unclips from the keys so the plate can be held as a handle
Used on a bag and, in one review, on a trekking-pole clamp
Bottle opener, screwdriver, box opener, cord cutter, and pry are listed
420 stainless steel, 21.2 g
Cons
About £17.95, and reviewers call it pricey next to cheaper plates
Only nine UK review bodies against a headline count of 96
TSA approved on the listing is not UK hand-luggage permission
Lifetime warranty excludes wear and tear
Best for: You will pay more so the tool unclips for grip, and you will not treat the TSA line as cabin clearance.
Less suitable: Your budget stops near the cheaper clip-on plate and you do not need the unclip handle.
The listing says you unclip the carabiner plate when you need a handle. No lock is stated.
Does TSA approved mean UK cabin clearance?
No. That line is seller copy. Screwdrivers are hold-only under the UK hand-luggage rules, and the CAA recommends the hold for multi tools.
What do the UK notes say?
Nine UK review bodies sit against 96 ratings. Buyers who like it used it more than expected. Others call it pricey. The warranty excludes wear and tear.
At about £4.59 the BDHI is a 25 g key-shaped plate with 4.3 from 64 amazon.co.uk reviews. The listing names a screwdriver, a hex wrench, and getting a box open, without a cross-driver split or hex sizes. UK buyers mention gifts, opening Amazon boxes, and still using it as a screwdriver a year later. One says it looks like dull aluminium rather than shiny stainless steel, and not every etched function on the 24-in-1 tally had been used. A folded-knife size field on the listing is packaging copy for what is a flat key. Score 78 is stars and a modest review count, not a shed trial. It is a cheap key-shaped plate if that finish is acceptable.
Pros
About £4.59, the lowest priced reviewed key-shaped plate in this set
Buyers report opening Amazon boxes and using the screwdriver a year later
Small enough, in those reviews, to live with keys
Bought as a gift and called good quality by some
Cons
Looks like dull aluminium rather than shiny stainless steel, in one review
Screwdriver and hex wrench named without sizes or a cross-driver split
64 reviews, a much smaller sample than the Shard or the DoohicKey
A 24-in-1 tally, and not every etched function had been used
Best for: You want a cheap key-shaped plate at about £4.59 and you can accept the finish.
Less suitable: You need a named cross driver or a review sample in the thousands.
The GOWEILE is a folding set at about £8.69, about 105 g, with 4.2 from 53 reviews. The listing names large and small flat drivers, large and small Phillips drivers, a star driver, a hex driver, a bottle opener, and a box opener. A knife shows up in a review rather than as a measured blade, and that reviewer found it dull and hard to sharpen because it is tiny. Other buyers call it a compact gift and one hangs it on a photography bag, while the same sample calls it heavier, clunkier, and fiddly. Bits needed a diamond file before they worked properly. The listing says the parts open separately and that tightness is adjustable. If you wanted a plate near 15 g, this is a different pocket.
Pros
Folding flat, Phillips, star, and hex drivers on the listing
Bottle opener listed, and a clip one reviewer hangs on a bag
Called a compact gift and good value by some buyers
Listing says each part opens separately and tightness is adjustable
Cons
About 105 g, and reviewers call it heavier and clunkier than expected
A knife mentioned in a review is dull and hard to sharpen
Fiddly layout, and bits needed a diamond file before they worked
53 reviews, a thin sample next to the one-piece plates
Best for: You want several folding driver tips and you have already accepted about 105 g.
Less suitable: You wanted a plate near 15 g, or a sharp blade.
The SOL listing is the cheapest title in this set at about £3.99, and the saved page has no star rating, no named drivers, and no item weight. The title mentions a 4-in-1 keyring tool with a carabiner clip, which is almost the whole specification. A package line of 700 g is the parcel, not the tool in your pocket. Score 0 is the missing review line, not a failed strength test. There is no UK review text on an opener or a driver, because those parts are not stated. Buy it only if an about £3.99 carabiner title is enough and you can send it back when the contents disappoint. It cannot be compared on hex size, blade, or lock.
Pros
Lowest saved price in the set, at about £3.99
Title includes a carabiner clip
The function claim stops at 4-in-1, rather than a long etched tally
Cons
No star rating and no UK review text in the notes
Drivers, cutter, and pry are not stated
The 700 g figure is a package weight, not an item weight
Score 0 because the review line is missing
Best for: You will treat about £3.99 as a carabiner title and check the parcel on arrival.
Less suitable: You need named drivers, a real item weight, or reviews before you buy.
The Moineefo is a folding keyring tool at about £9.48 with a stated fold-out blade and secure locking positions. The highlight describes a 7 cm stainless tool, a ruler from 0 to 4 cm, a bottle opener, and a screwdriver, and the item-weight field is 15 g. There is no customer-review line, so the score stays at 0 and nobody in the comparison notes has commented on the lock or the edge. The 7 cm figure is the whole tool, not a measured cutting edge. A locking blade is a carry question before it is a gift, because GOV.UK’s pocketknife exception is a non-locking blade of no more than 3 inches, and that is a pointer rather than advice on your case. The listing says it clips to a keychain, backpack, or belt loop. With no review text, you cannot tell whether the 15 g weight matches what arrives.
Pros
Listing states a bottle opener, a screwdriver, and a 0 to 4 cm ruler
Item-weight field is 15 g, lighter than the 100 g folders
Clip for a keychain, backpack, or belt loop, on the listing
Cons
Fold-out blade and locking positions are stated, with no UK reviews
No star rating, so the score is 0
The 7 cm highlight is the whole tool, not a measured cutting edge
A lock sits outside the non-locking pocketknife exception on GOV.UK
Best for: You have read the lock and blade lines and will check the carry rules yourself before you buy.
Less suitable: You wanted a bladeless plate, or a tool with a UK review sample.
Yes. The listing states a fold-out blade and secure locking positions. The 7 cm highlight is the whole tool, not a measured cutting edge.
Is there a star rating?
No. There is no customer-review line, so the score is 0. Nobody in the notes has commented on the lock or the edge.
How is it carried, and what does it weigh?
The listing says it clips to a keychain, backpack, or belt loop. The item-weight field is 15 g. The saved price is about £9.48.
How we compared
Scores use the amazon.co.uk star rating and review count saved with these twelve listings on 22 October 2026. The figure is the stars divided by five, times 70, rounded, plus review volume capped at 30. No star line scores 0. Fewer than 50 reviews, or no rating, means no badge. The top pick is the highest score. The best value is the lowest saved price among products that score 84 or higher. A tie breaks to the higher review count, then the lower saved price. This is not a lab test of pry strength, edge life, or carry.
1
Amazon.co.uk stars
70%
Seventy points of the score are the amazon.co.uk star rating divided by five and multiplied by 70, then rounded. A 4.6 line contributes 64 and a 4.4 line contributes 62. There is no separate lab mark for steel, torque, or edge life.
2
Review volume
30%
Up to 30 points come from the amazon.co.uk review count, as floor of log10 of that count times 10, capped at 30. A missing rating line scores 0. Fewer than 50 reviews bars a badge even when the stars look high. Three colour listings that share one pool are one sample.

Multi tool key ring buying guide
Use this guide to separate a plate from a folder, then match the named job, then read any blade or lock. The table is twelve amazon.co.uk listings with saved prices. The scores are star ratings and review volume, not a workshop test. If a personal carry question is why you are here, the rules below are a pointer to GOV.UK, not advice on your case.
What is a multi tool key ring?
A multi tool key ring is a small steel tool that shares a ring with your house keys, or clips to a bag or a belt loop. You buy one for the moment the keys are already in your hand: parcel tape, a bottle cap, a loose screw, or a garden hose clip. It is a plate or a mini folder. It is not a lawnmower part, a pair of secateurs, or a full pliers multitool, and it will not shift a rusted padlock or a mower blade.
Construction comes first. A one-piece plate has no pivot.
Best for
House and garden keys, for a bottle notch and a small driver
A gift buyer who matches the colour on the listing
Not ideal for
A mower blade, a gas fitting, a ladder bolt, or electrical work
Cabin baggage only, unless the tool goes in the hold or stays at home
Mistakes to avoid
1
Buying the biggest function number
A tally of 12, 20, or 24 only helps if the implement is named. Bullets on the same key-shaped family disagree about the number. Count the job you repeat, not the etched list.
2
Adding three colour counts
The gold, black, and silver key-shaped plates share one 4.4-from-237 pool, including wrong-colour comments. Adding the three figures counts the same reviews more than once. Match the colour ASIN you actually want.
3
Trusting the wrong weight or metal line
Imperial hex openings are not a metric hose clip unless the size matches. A material field that says titanium can disagree with bullets that say coated stainless steel. A 700 g line on the cheapest listing is a package weight, not the tool.
What to weigh up
Construction and the job
High
Construction is the first buying check because a one-piece plate, a key-shaped flat, an organiser insert, and a folding set are different pockets. A plate in this category can be about 9 g to 25 g. A folding set sits near 100 g to 105 g. That gap matters more than a printed function count. Name the job you actually repeat: a bottle notch, a parcel edge, a flat driver, a cross driver, an imperial hex, or a pry tip. It counts only if the listing or the reviews name it.
Blade, lock, and the review sample
High
A blade, a point, or a lock is a carry question before it is a gift. The GOV.UK exception for a folding pocketknife is a cutting edge of no more than 3 inches that does not lock. A stated locking position sits outside that exception. A box cutter on a plate is still an edge, even when no lock is named. A 7 cm highlight on a folding tool can be the whole tool, not a measured cutting edge.
Which option suits you?
Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.
🔑
House and garden keys
You want a bottle notch and a small driver on the keys, and you stop before a mower blade or a rusted padlock. The Gerber Shard is a 16.8 g plate at about £10.00, with 4.6 from 5,463 amazon.co.uk reviews, flat and cross drivers, and no blade or lock stated.
You want the tool to clip on and off the ring, and you use 1/4 in, 5/16 in, or 3/8 in openings. The Nite Ize DoohicKey is about £6.00, with 4.4 from 4,219 reviews. It is a flat driver only, and a box cutter is listed.
You are buying a key-shaped plate around £7 and you must match the colour, because wrong-colour comments exist. The silver FLRMINGE is about £6.99. Its 4.4 from 237 reviews is the same pool as the black and gold listings, not a separate sample.
Which multi tool key ring is the top pick on this page?
The top pick is the Gerber Shard, a 16.8 g one-piece plate at about £10.00. The score is 94, from 4.6 stars and 5,463 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest sample in this set. The listing names flat and cross drivers, a pry bar, a bottle opener, and a lanyard hole, with no blade and no lock. The score is listing arithmetic, not a strength test. Reviewers also say it only gets you out of a hole.
Which multi tool key ring is the best value?
The best value is the Nite Ize DoohicKey at about £6.00. It scores 92, from 4.4 stars and 4,219 amazon.co.uk reviews, and it is the lowest saved price among rows scoring 84 or above. It is a one-piece plate with a spring clip, a flat driver, a listed box cutter, and imperial openings of 1/4 in, 5/16 in, and 3/8 in. It does not claim a cross driver. The score is not a lab test.
How much does a multi tool key ring cost?
In this set the entry listings sit under £7, the middle is about £8 to £12, and the dearest saved price is about £17.95. Past £10 you are not automatically buying a larger review sample. Other UK shelves have listed the same kinds of plate at different figures, and shelf prices move. Treat the table as the amazon.co.uk prices saved with these listings, not as a market survey.
What should you check before you buy a multi tool key ring?
Start with construction, then the job you repeat, then any blade, point, or lock in the bullets. A function count only helps if the implement is named. Check the attachment, because clips wear. Then look at the price in pounds and a real review count. Three colour listings can share one review pool, so do not add those counts together. Under 50 reviews, or no rating line, is a thin sample.
Can you carry a multi tool key ring in public in the UK?
A blade or sharp point in public in England and Wales needs a good reason or lawful authority, under GOV.UK and section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988. The exception is a folding pocketknife with a non-locking cutting edge of no more than 3 inches. A lock-knife is outside that exception. Scotland has the same 3 inch exemption under section 49. A screwdriver is not itself a bladed article. This is not legal advice.
Can you take a multi tool key ring in hand luggage?
Screwdrivers and wrenches are hold-only under GOV.UK’s rule for work tools, and the CAA recommends the hold for multi tools. A title that says airline safe or TSA approved is seller copy. It is not a UK cabin clearance. If you are travelling with cabin baggage only, put the tool in the hold or leave it at home. Northern Ireland follows the same section 139 carry offence.
When should you stop and use a proper tool?
Stop when the job is a mower blade, a gas fitting, a ladder bolt, electrical work, or any pry that bends the plate. A key-ring tool covers a small snag. It does not replace a driver, a spanner, or pliers. If you need jaws or a longer lever, a mini multi tool is the nearer comparison. For a personal carry question, use GOV.UK or a qualified adviser rather than a product title.
