Weed and feed comparison 2026

The best weed and feed, compared.

Top pick: Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 360 m² Best value: Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg – Lowest price per claimed square metre in the set, about £0.04, at about £30.50 for a listing claim of 750 square metres. Updated October 2026.

Weed and feed is a granular lawn treatment for an established UK lawn. It combines fertiliser with a selective broadleaf herbicide, and usually iron sulphate so moss turns black. Buy it when dandelions, daisies, plantain or white clover are widespread and you want one pass to green the grass and knock those weeds back. A few weeds you can pull, a clover lawn kept for bees, or moss alone, are a different job. A suitable pack shows a gram rate for a lawn about six months old, an amateur MAPP number, and a season when the weeds are growing. Do not treat in drought or frost, and do not reseed inside the gap on the pack. Named weeds on the label are the herbicide's job. Black moss is the iron, not proof the weedkiller worked. Whether you need a combined treatment is set out in the [weed and feed buying guide](/hub/fertiliser-soil-and-bark-mulch/weed-and-feed/sub/weed-and-feed-buying-guide). People and pets go back only once the granules are watered in and the lawn is dry. Brush iron off paving. Do not wash it into a drain.

The best weed and feed in detail

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 360 m²

Rank 1

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 360 m²

∼£25

Our view

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 360 m², is about £24.94, with 4.5 from 309 reviews. The title claims 360 square metres, about £0.07 per claimed square metre, from April to September. Named weeds are dandelions, white clover and plantain. Children and pets go back once the granules are watered in and the lawn is dry. The listing expects a wheeled or multi-use spreader, which is not in the bag. Unit count 12,600 g matches 12.6 kg. UK review notes repeat greener, thicker grass within about a week and broadleaf weeds reported killed. Weeds left alive where rain was low, while moss was affected, is a repeated complaint. One reviewer said the 360 square metre claim did not match a 140 square metre lawn. A spill while filling the spreader left a bald patch.

Pros

  • Grass described as greener and thicker within about a week
  • Broadleaf weeds including clover and dandelions reported killed
  • Moss blackened and then raked out
  • Drop spreader used to hold the labelled dose on a large lawn

Cons

  • Weeds left alive where rain was low, while moss was affected
  • Claimed 360 square metres did not match one reviewer's 140 square metre lawn
  • Spill while filling the spreader left a bald patch
  • Bags arrived damaged or short on a multi-bag order

Best for: A larger established lawn from April to September, if you already own a spreader and the named weeds match the lawn.

Less suitable: A buyer without a spreader, or someone who will not store what a smaller lawn does not use from a 360 square metre claim.

What do the UK reviews repeat?

Greener, thicker grass within about a week, and broadleaf weeds including clover and dandelions reported killed, are repeated comments. Weeds left alive where rain was low, while moss was affected, is a repeated complaint. A spill while filling the spreader left a bald patch in one review.

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 80 m² spreader

Rank 2

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 80 m² spreader

∼£15

Our view

Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 80 m² spreader, is about £15.00, with 4.4 from 444 reviews. The title claims 80 square metres, about £0.19 per claimed square metre, from April to September. Named weeds are dandelions, white clover and plantain. Children and pets go back once the granules are watered in and the lawn is dry. A handheld spreader is in the title. Unit count 2,800 g matches 2.8 kg. UK review notes repeat weeds, including clover, blackened then dead, and a thicker lawn in about a week. Some reviews say weeds were untouched after five weeks while the grass greened. Scorch where granules clumped, and no grass seed in the mix, are the other repeated complaints.

Pros

  • Weeds, including clover, reported blackened then dead
  • Moss cleared and the lawn thicker and greener in about a week
  • Built-in spreader described as easy to refill
  • Repeat purchases across seasons

Cons

  • Some reviews say weeds were untouched after five weeks while grass greened
  • Grass scorched where granules were clumped or rain did not follow
  • No grass seed in the mix, which a few buyers expected
  • Container arrived smashed with granules spilt

Best for: A smaller established lawn from April to September, if you want named weeds and the handheld spreader in the title.

Less suitable: A new lawn, or a buyer who expected grass seed in the box. Some reviews saw weeds untouched after five weeks.

Westland Aftercut, pack of 2

Rank 3

Westland Aftercut, pack of 2

∼£17

Our view

Westland Aftercut, pack of 2, is about £17.00, with 4.3 from 1,117 reviews. It is the top pick because that star rating and review volume is the highest score here. The listing claims feed, weed control and moss control, as granules, from May to August. Each box title says 80 square metres plus 25% extra. This page does not turn the twin pack into one measured area. The bullets do not name a weed, and there is no pet line. Item weight is 3.32 kg and the unit count is 6,860 g, so those lines do not agree. UK review notes repeat greener grass within days to a week when the lawn was watered, weeds reduced but not always cleared, burnt grass when the powder was not kept wet, and lumps that would not break. There is no spreader in the box.

Pros

  • Moss killed and grass greener within days to a week when watered
  • Weeds reduced, though several reviewers say not all of them
  • Handful of pellets easy to spread; low price for a repeat buy
  • Used to recover a lawn after dry weather or builder damage

Cons

  • Lawn burnt when the powder was not kept wet
  • Lumps the size of a cherry tomato that would not break
  • No spreader in the box, so hand spreading left misses and patches
  • Moss killed more reliably than weeds in some reviews

Best for: An established lawn in May to August, if you can water the granules in and you already have a way to spread them.

Less suitable: A new lawn, a seed-only repair, or a buyer who needs a pet line the listing does not print.

Common questions

What area does the listing claim?

Each box title says 80 square metres plus 25% extra, and the listing is a pack of two. No single total is printed, so this page does not calculate a price per square metre. That area is a listing claim, not a measured lawn.

When does the listing say to use it, and which weeds does it name?

The season on the listing is May to August. The bullets say weeds and their roots and do not name a species. The jobs claimed are feed, weed control and moss control.

What do the UK reviews repeat?

Moss killed and grass greener within days to a week, when the lawn was watered, is a repeated comment. Several reviewers say weeds were reduced but not all of them. Burnt grass when the powder was not kept wet, hard lumps, and misses from hand spreading are the repeated complaints.

Doff Complete, 1 kg

Rank 4

Doff Complete, 1 kg

Our view

Doff Complete, 1 kg, is about £6.43, with 4.3 from 60 reviews. The bullets claim up to 30 square metres, about £0.21 per claimed square metre, and say spring or autumn. A retailer table for this brand says May to August, so read the pack. Weeds are described as broad-leaved, with no species on the listing. There is no pet line. Item weight is 1 kg. The review notes are short: a greener lawn, moss killed for at least one buyer, and easy to sprinkle. Buttercups still dug out after the moss died, and no sign of weeds dying, are the complaints.

Pros

  • Lawn looks greener or better in several short reviews
  • Moss killed for at least one buyer
  • Easy to sprinkle and water in
  • Low price for a small garden

Cons

  • Buttercups still being dug out after moss died
  • No sign of weeds dying while grass greened
  • One review calls it a waste of money
  • Covers a small area only

Best for: A small established lawn within the claimed 30 square metres, if broad-leaved weeds are the job and you read the season on the pack.

Less suitable: A large lawn, or a buyer who needs the weeds named as species. The review file is 60 ratings.

Greenforce, 3 kg

Rank 5

Greenforce, 3 kg

∼£15

Our view

Greenforce, 3 kg, is about £15.25, with 4.2 from 2,231 reviews. The coverage field claims 150 square metres, about £0.10 per claimed square metre. The form field says powder. The listing does not print a season, a named weed, or a pet line. Unit count 3,000 g matches the 3 kg item weight. UK review notes repeat moss blackened in a day or two and many weeds dying over the following weeks, including buttercups, dandelions or clover in some reviews. The same notes include mixed granule size and dust that blocked a spreader, moss killed while weeds remained, and grass killed in patches. One theme is that a weedy lawn needed more than the stated coverage.

Pros

  • Moss blackened in a day or two and many weeds died over following weeks
  • Buttercups, dandelions, or clover cleared in some reviews
  • Thicker greener grass after about two weeks when watered in
  • Seen as cheaper than bigger brands

Cons

  • Mixed granule size, chunks, and dust blocked a spreader and blew onto clothes
  • Moss killed while weeds remained, or the reverse
  • Grass killed in patches as well as the weeds
  • Needed more than the stated coverage on a weedy lawn

Best for: An established lawn around the claimed 150 square metres, if you can use a powder and your spreader can take mixed sizes.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs a pet line or a printed season. Dust and mixed sizes blocked spreaders in the review notes.

Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg

Rank 6

Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg

∼£31

Our view

Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg, is about £30.50, with 4.2 from 1,309 reviews. It is the best value because the listing claims 750 square metres, about £0.04 per claimed square metre, the lowest in this set. The form is granules. The listing does not print a season. It says all major weed types and names no species. There is no pet line. Bullets also say apply every 4 to 6 weeks, which you should check against the pack rather than treat as a reason to dose again soon. UK review notes repeat moss and many weeds clearing over several weeks when watered in, and also reviews where weeds or moss barely changed. The 750 square metre claim is disputed. A stopped spreader that dumped a pile burnt grass in the notes.

Pros

  • Moss and many weeds cleared over several weeks when watered in
  • Greener, faster grass on a large lawn at a low bag price
  • Used with a handheld or broadcast spreader
  • Bought again after a contractor treatment was dropped

Cons

  • Several reviews say weeds or moss barely changed
  • Coverage of 750 square metres disputed; one review also expected 20 kg and received 15 kg
  • Granules that did not dissolve, or dust and stripes from missed passes
  • Stopped spreader dumped a pile and burnt grass

Best for: A large established lawn where you will dose by grams and you want the lowest price per claimed square metre.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs a named weed and a printed season, or a new lawn. Reviews dispute the 750 square metre claim.

Westland Aftercut, 80 m² spreader

Rank 7

Westland Aftercut, 80 m² spreader

∼£15

Our view

Westland Aftercut, 80 m² spreader, is about £14.62, with 4.2 from 246 reviews. The coverage field claims 80 square metres, about £0.18 per claimed square metre, from May to August. The bullets do not name a weed. There is no pet line. The title is a spreader carton. Item weight is 2.56 kg and the unit count is 40 g, so those lines do not agree. UK review notes repeat weeds reduced and greener grass within about a week when the granules flowed. Caked lumps that stopped the spreader, clover left alive, and weeds still present after the labelled wait are the repeated complaints.

Pros

  • Weeds reduced and the lawn greener within about a week
  • Cardboard spreader called easy to use when the granules flowed
  • Moss gone quickly in reviews that saw a result
  • Repeat use through the year by some buyers

Cons

  • Granules caked into lumps or rocks so the spreader would not work
  • Clover left alive in more than one review
  • Weeds still present after the labelled wait
  • Carton arrived damaged and leaked

Best for: A lawn around the claimed 80 square metres in May to August, if you want the carton spreader and the granules flow.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs named weeds or a pet line. Clover was left alive in more than one review.

Doff Complete, 1.6 kg

Rank 8

Doff Complete, 1.6 kg

Our view

Doff Complete, 1.6 kg, is about £6.98, with 4.0 from 98 reviews. The bullets claim 50 square metres, about £0.14 per claimed square metre. The listing does not print a season, a named weed, or a pet line. Item weight is 1.6 kg. You scatter from the carton. UK review notes include easy scattering and some weeds blackening within a day. Several buyers thought the listing was grass seed or a patch repair. Burnt grey patches, little change after a month, and horsetail still growing in one review are the complaints. This comparison does not claim the product kills horsetail.

Pros

  • Easy to scatter from the carton
  • Some reviews report weeds blackening within a day and greener grass
  • Low price for a 50 square metre box

Cons

  • Several buyers thought the listing was grass seed or a patch repair
  • Burnt grey patches after application
  • Little visible change after a month for some
  • Horsetail still growing in one review while grass greened

Best for: A small established lawn around the claimed 50 square metres, if you will scatter from the carton and you are not buying seed.

Less suitable: A buyer who wanted grass seed or a patch repair. Horsetail was still growing in one review.

How we compared

Eight amazon.co.uk listings were scored from the stored pages and the UK review notes already on file. Shelf date 21 October 2026. There is no lawn trial. The number on each card is the star rating scaled to 70 points, plus a review-count term capped at 30. The top pick is the highest of those scores. The best value is the listing with the lowest price per claimed square metre, and it does not also take the top score. Coverage is the listing's claim, not a measured lawn. The weights below sum to 100.

1

Star rating

70%

Stars out of five on the amazon.co.uk listing, scaled so five stars would be 70 points. Miracle-Gro 360 m² is 4.5. Westland Aftercut, pack of 2, is 4.3. Doff 1.6 kg is 4.0. The star block is what separates the top of the table.

2

Review volume

30%

A term from the review count on that listing, capped at 30 points. Greenforce 3 kg has 2,231 reviews and hits the cap. Doff 1 kg has 60, so the file adds less. The cap means a huge file cannot outrun the stars.

Weed and feed buying guide

Buy the job before you buy the star line. A combined feed, weed and moss granule is not a feed-only bag, a liquid weedkiller, or a seed repair. Prices below are amazon.co.uk shelf prices on 21 October 2026. This is not a lawn trial.

What to match before you buy

Weed and feed is a ready-to-spread granule for an established lawn. It pairs a fertiliser with a selective broadleaf herbicide, and it usually adds iron sulphate so moss turns black. Buy it when dandelions, daisies, plantain or white clover are spread through the grass and you want one walk to feed the lawn and knock those weeds back. A few plants you can pull, a clover lawn kept for bees, or moss on its own point to hand weeding, a feed with no herbicide, or an iron treatment.

Best for

  • An established lawn with widespread broadleaf weeds
  • A large lawn where you will dose by the gram rate
  • A small lawn where you want named weeds and a spreader in the pack

Not ideal for

  • A new lawn or a seed-only repair
  • Moss on its own, or a clover lawn you are keeping for bees
  • A buyer who needs a pet line the listing does not print

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading black moss as a dead weed

Iron sulphate blackens moss. That is not proof the herbicide killed the broadleaf weeds. Judge the species named on the label, after the wait the pack prints.

  2. 2

Stretching the bag to the printed area

Coverage on a listing is a claim. If the bag runs out at the labelled gram rate, buy more. Do not thin it out to hit 750 or 360 square metres.

  3. 3

Going back before the lawn is dry

The Miracle-Gro line is children and pets once the granules are watered in and dry. Westland's grazing-animal line is longer: keep them off until the weeds have died and been removed. Listings with no pet line do not become safe by omission.

What to weigh up

Job, season and named weeds

High

Buy this only for widespread broadleaf weeds on an established lawn about six months old. A few dandelions, a clover lawn kept for bees, or moss alone point elsewhere. Miracle-Gro's UK label is April to September and names dandelions, white clover and plantain. Westland is May to August. The amazon bullets on the Westland packs here do not name a species, though the maker page adds daisies among 12 types.

Gram rate, claimed cover and re-entry

High

Rate first, then the area on the bag. Miracle-Gro publishes 35 g per square metre, twice a year, three months apart. Westland and the Doff table use 32 g. A UK retailer page for Greenforce 15 kg prints 20 g and a claim of 750 square metres, and MAPP 16369. Doff retailer text prints MAPP 18963. Confirm both on the pack. If the bag runs out, buy more. On 21 October 2026 the 15 kg bag is about £0.04 per claimed square metre and the 1 kg box about £0.21.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

An established lawn in season

You have widespread broadleaf weeds, you can water the granules in, and you want the pack with the most review volume at a high star rating. Westland Aftercut, pack of 2, is the top pick at about £17.00, with 4.3 from 1,117 reviews. The listing season is May to August. Each box title claims 80 square metres plus 25% extra. The bullets do not name a weed, and there is no pet line.

A large lawn, dosed by grams

The cash outlay changes when the lawn is hundreds of square metres and you do not stretch the bag. Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg, is the best value at about £30.50. The listing claims 750 square metres, about £0.04 per claimed square metre, with 4.2 from 1,309 reviews. It does not print a season or a named weed. Several reviews dispute that coverage.

A small lawn with named weeds

You want the weeds printed on the listing and a spreader in the pack. Miracle-Gro 4 in 1, 80 m² spreader, is about £15.00, with 4.4 from 444 reviews. The title claims 80 square metres, the season is April to September, and the listing names dandelions, white clover and plantain. Children and pets go back once the granules are watered in and the lawn is dry.

Common questions about weed and feed

Which weed and feed is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is Westland Aftercut, pack of 2, at about £17.00. It scored highest because amazon.co.uk shows 4.3 from 1,117 reviews. Each box title claims 80 square metres plus 25% extra. The season on the listing is May to August, and the bullets do not name a weed species. Review notes include greener grass when the lawn was watered, and burnt grass when it was not kept wet. There is no pet line on the listing. The score is stars plus review volume, not a lawn trial.
Which pack is the best value?
The best value is Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg, at about £30.50. The listing claims 750 square metres, about £0.04 per claimed square metre, the lowest figure in this set. amazon.co.uk shows 4.2 from 1,309 reviews. It does not print a season or a named weed. Several reviews say weeds or moss barely changed, and some dispute the 750 square metre claim. A UK retailer page prints 20 g per square metre. Confirm the rate on the pack. Do not stretch the bag.
What is weed and feed, and what will it not kill?
Weed and feed is a granular treatment for an established lawn. It combines fertiliser with a selective broadleaf herbicide, and it usually includes iron sulphate to blacken moss. You buy it for widespread dandelions, daisies, plantain or white clover, not for a few plants you can pull and not for moss alone. It does not kill grass weeds or horsetail. Black moss shows the iron, not that the herbicide worked. The Royal Horticultural Society does not recommend lawn weedkillers.
When should you apply weed and feed?
Use it when the weeds are growing, on a lawn about six months old, and not in drought or frost. Miracle-Gro's UK label is April to September. Westland, and a retailer table for Doff, say May to August. The Doff 1 kg amazon listing instead says spring or autumn, so read the pack in your hand. Do not reseed inside the gap on the label, about six weeks for Westland and about eight for Miracle-Gro. Do not mow straight away, and do not fill the spreader on the grass.
Does weed and feed kill clover?
White clover is named on the Miracle-Gro listing, with dandelions and plantain. A Doff retailer table adds creeping buttercup, plantains, trefoils and white clover among others. Westland's maker page adds daisies among 12 types, while the amazon bullets on these Westland packs do not name a species. Horsetail is not on those lists. Clover left alive appears in Westland spreader reviews. Treat only weeds the label names. A feed without herbicide is a different product: see the lawn fertiliser comparison.
When can children and pets go back on the lawn?
Go back when the granules are watered in and the lawn is dry. That is the condition on the Miracle-Gro listings in this set. It is not a claim that the product is safe with no wait. Westland's maker page says keep grazing animals off until the weeds have died and been removed. The Westland, Greenforce and Doff amazon listings here do not print a pet line. Brush iron sulphate off paving. Do not wash it into drains. Keep the product on the treated area.
When should you stop and not treat?
Stop if the pack is for professional use only, the site is a school or a public pitch, product has entered water or a drain, or eye irritation persists. Doff's safety data sheet classes the mixture as causing serious eye irritation and as harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects. A lawn that is almost all weed needs renovation, not a second dose. New turf and a seed-only repair are the wrong job. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers a pack that leaks or does not match its description.

Our verdict

The top pick is Westland Aftercut, pack of 2, at about £17.00. It has the highest score: 4.3 from 1,117 reviews. Each box title claims 80 square metres plus 25% extra, the season on the listing is May to August, and the bullets do not name a weed species. The best value is Greenforce 4 in 1, 15 kg, at about £30.50. The listing claims 750 square metres, about £0.04 per claimed square metre, the lowest in this set, with 4.2 from 1,309 reviews. Several reviews dispute that coverage. None of these scores is a lawn trial.
