Schuko plug comparison 2026

The best schuko plugs, compared.

Top pick: VINTAR UK to Schuko 5-pack Best value: VGUARD Schuko to UK fused adaptor – About £5.99, with 4.5 from 10,947 reviews and a stated 13 A fuse, for a short stay rather than a plug left on an appliance. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A Schuko plug is the earthed continental plug with two round pins, about 4.8 mm across, and side earth contacts. It does not enter a UK BS 1363 socket. UK listings use the name for a plug you wire, a UK-to-Europe adaptor, a Europe-to-UK conversion plug, a female coupling, or a short lead to a blue CEE inlet. Judge direction and earth first. The opposite adaptor does nothing useful. CEE 7/4 and hybrid CEE 7/7 are earthed, and a Type C Europlug is not. Type E uses a socket earth pin and Type F uses side clips. A travel adaptor changes pins only. UK and continental mains are nominally 230 V at 50 Hz, so skip a voltage converter unless the plate says otherwise. See the [Schuko plug buying guide](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/schuko-plug/sub/schuko-plug-buying-guide). The UK limit is 13 A. A printed 16 A or 4000 W line is not a safe continuous load through that plug, and the body has no fuse. Italy and Switzerland use different pins. IP44 or IP54 is a splash or dust claim, not a waterproof rating.

A Schuko plug is the earthed continental plug with two round pins, about 4.8 mm across, and side earth contacts. It does not enter a UK BS 1363 socket.

The best schuko plugs in detail

VINTAR UK to Schuko 5-pack

Rank 1

VINTAR UK to Schuko 5-pack

∼£18

Our view

The VINTAR 860de is a five-pack at £17.99, with 4.8 from 222 amazon.co.uk reviews, the highest star line in this folder. Buyers praise a secure fit and the pack price, one note covers an air fryer and a kettle that did not get hot, and one buyer says the adaptor seats upside down. The highlight says grounded Type E/F and 13 A / 3250 W, while the title says 3-pin to 2-pin and the plug-type field says Type E, so the earth path is not one sentence. The bullets exclude Italy and a British shaver plug, then still list a shaver and mention Switzerland, whose domestic socket is not Schuko. Size lines disagree, at 5.1 × 4.9 × 6.8 cm or 20 × 19 × 26 mm, no fuse is printed, and the 15-month warranty is a bullet rather than a document in the file. Buy the pack only after you have checked the earth clips on the body you receive, and skip it if you needed one adaptor and a named British Standard.

Pros

  • Five adaptors at £17.99, about £3.60 each on that shelf price
  • 4.8 from 222 amazon.co.uk reviews, the highest star line here
  • UK notes describe a secure fit for phones and, in one case, a kettle
  • Highlight states 13 A and grounded Type E/F
  • Light to carry, in the sampled reviews

Cons

  • Title says 2-pin while the highlight says grounded
  • One review: seats upside down in EU sockets
  • Italy excluded, and Switzerland is still named
  • No fuse printed, and the size lines conflict

Best for: You want several UK-to-Europe adaptors for phones and light loads, and you will check the earth clips when the pack arrives.

Less suitable: You need one adaptor, a consistent earth description, Italy or Switzerland, or a named British Standard.

Common questions

Is this an earthed Schuko adaptor?

The item highlight says grounded Type E/F. The title says 3-pin to 2-pin, and the plug-type field says Type E. Those lines do not match.

Does it work with a UK shaver plug?

The bullets say it is not suitable for a British shaver plug. They also list a shaver among compatible devices, which conflicts with that line.

Will it work in Italy?

The bullets say it will not work in Italy (Type L). They still list Switzerland, whose domestic socket is not Schuko.

Wandhill 4-way Schuko travel lead

Rank 2

Wandhill 4-way Schuko travel lead

∼£20

Our view

The Wandhill TM1504 is a 1 m lead with four UK sockets and a Type E/F plug, listed at £19.99, with 4.7 from 464 amazon.co.uk reviews. Buyers use it to replace several small adaptors in hotel rooms, including Menorca and Majorca, and several call it light and sturdy. The same notes say plugs can get hot, so one reviewer limits it to lighter charging, and that the block is too bulky for some suitcases. The bullets state 13 A and two USB-A ports, they do not print a fuse, and a field says Type E, 2-pin, against the Type E/F claim. A UK review says the pins fit 4.8 mm sockets, will not fit a 4 mm shaver socket, and miss some Italian three-pin sockets. The weight bullet says 240 g and the weight field says 0.24 g, so neither figure is a measured mass. It is a four-socket travel lead for a short stay on a Schuko wall, and a poor match if you need one fused conversion left on an appliance at home.

Pros

  • Four UK sockets on a 1 m lead at £19.99
  • 4.7 from 464 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Used in hotel rooms in place of several small adaptors
  • Stated 13 A, with two USB-A ports
  • UK review: fits 4.8 mm sockets

Cons

  • Plugs can get hot, so one reviewer limits the load
  • Too bulky for some suitcases
  • No fuse printed, and a Type E 2-pin field conflicts with Type E/F
  • Will not fit a 4 mm shaver socket or every Italian three-pin socket

Best for: You want four UK sockets and two USB-A ports on one lead for a short stay in a Schuko hotel room, and you will keep heavy loads off it.

Less suitable: You need a fused conversion left on one appliance, a shaver socket, or a lead that must pack small.

Common questions

Does this lead take UK plugs?

Yes. The listing says four UK sockets on a 1 m lead, plus two USB-A ports. The plug end is described as Type E/F.

Will it fit a shaver socket?

A UK review says it fits 4.8 mm sockets and will not fit a 4 mm shaver-style socket. The listing does not claim shaver use.

How heavy is it?

The bullets say 240 grams. The weight field says 0.24 g. Those two figures cannot both be the product weight.

Double Dragon Schuko to CEE lead

Rank 3

Double Dragon Schuko to CEE lead

Our view

The Double Dragon EU-HUP-230 is a 42 cm lead at £7.48 from a Schuko plug to a 16 A CEE socket, stated at 230 V, 16 A, and 3680 W. It scores 4.7 from 258 amazon.co.uk reviews, with 47 UK texts in the stored listing. Those reviews describe French and Spanish pitches, a spare kept in the boot, and sometimes a generator, while several buyers had not used it yet, so durability is thinly evidenced. There is no repeated report of melting or a broken pin in the sampled UK text. The title and bullets claim IP44, EN 60309, and VDE, none of which is a certificate in the stored listing. Another field says indoor, another says Type E, and another says the product has no extension cord, against the 42 cm lead. Use it as a short fly lead for a nearby continental socket, and buy a longer lead if the hook-up is further than an arm’s length.

Pros

  • 42 cm Schuko-to-16 A CEE lead at £7.48
  • 4.7 from 258 amazon.co.uk reviews, 47 of them UK texts
  • UK reviews describe French and Spanish pitches
  • Stated 230 V, 16 A, and 3680 W
  • IP44 claimed, and buyers call it sealed

Cons

  • 42 cm will not reach a distant bollard
  • Several reviews are of the unused lead
  • A field says indoor, against the IP44 claim
  • Type E and “no extension cord” fields fight the title

Best for: A continental socket is beside the van and you need a short Schuko plug into a 16 A blue CEE inlet.

Less suitable: The bollard is across the pitch, you need a verified waterproof joint, or you wanted a UK travel adaptor.

Common questions

Will this feed a motorhome from a European socket?

That is the job in the title: a Schuko plug into a continental socket and a 16 A CEE socket for the caravan lead. UK reviews describe French and Spanish pitches.

Is it sold as splashproof?

The title and bullets claim IP44. Another field says indoor, and another says the product has no extension cord, against the 42 cm lead.

What load does the listing print?

16 A, 230 V and 3680 W. It does not print a fuse. EN 60309 and VDE appear as bullet claims, not as documents in the stored listing.

Brennenstuhl rubber Schuko plug

Rank 4

Brennenstuhl rubber Schuko plug

Our view

The Brennenstuhl 1082040020 is a rewirable plug at £5.19, stated at 230 V and 16 A, for a cable you supply in the 6–13 mm range. The star line is 4.7 from 255 amazon.co.uk reviews, but only three UK review texts are in the stored listing, so the sample behind the number is thin. Those notes call it solid, and one describes it outside a motorhome on an air fryer where the fit had to stay secure. The same UK note says thicker wire is fiddly to terminate. The title claims IP54 and outdoor use, which is a listing claim, not a lab result. The bullets say rubber while a material field says plastic, and the cupboard-handle lines in the listing are not this plug. There is no fuse in the body, and the listing does not add one. It is the only male plug in this set that you wire onto a flex, provided the diagram is on the body and the sheath fits the clamp.

Pros

  • Rewirable male plug at £5.19 for cable you supply
  • Stated 230 V, 16 A, types E and F
  • IP54 claimed for outdoor use
  • Accepts a cable diameter of 6–13 mm
  • UK notes call the body solid

Cons

  • Only three UK reviews in the stored listing against a 255 count
  • Thicker wire is fiddly to terminate
  • Rubber and plastic both appear in the specification
  • No fuse, and no cable in the box

Best for: You are repairing or making a flex and you can see the diagram and fit a 6–13 mm sheath in the clamp.

Less suitable: You wanted a ready-made travel adaptor, a large UK review sample, or a plug with a fuse in the body.

Common questions

Can this plug go on an extension cable?

The bullets say it is for connecting an extension cable or repairing a damaged one, at a stated 230 V and 16 A. You supply the cable.

Is it sold as outdoor?

The title and bullets claim IP54 and outdoor use. That is the listing’s claim, not a test result in this file.

What cable size does it accept?

The bullets say a cable diameter of 6–13 mm. A UK review says thicker wire is fiddly to terminate. Only three UK reviews are in the stored listing.

as-Schwabe Schuko rubber coupling

Rank 5

as-Schwabe Schuko rubber coupling

Our view

The as-Schwabe 60415 is a female rubber Schuko coupling at £5.99, stated at 230 V and 16 A, with no cable in the box and conductors up to 2.5 mm². The star line is 4.6 from 2,562 amazon.co.uk reviews, though only four UK review texts are in the stored listing, and later notes from Sweden and Spain are not UK opinion. Those UK notes praise the build and say it is easy to wire once you treat it as the socket end of a lead. One note says it stayed cool with 13 A flowing, which is one review, not a test. The bullets claim IP44 and a protective cap, while a field that says one wire and two poles conflicts with an earthed three-core coupler. A UK review also says it may not accept every high-wattage charger plug. It is the coupling in this set, not a male plug, and it does nothing until you supply a sound flex and can see the terminals.

Pros

  • Female rubber coupling at £5.99, model 60415
  • 4.6 from 2,562 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Stated 230 V, 16 A, conductors up to 2.5 mm²
  • IP44 and a protective cap claimed
  • UK notes call it straightforward once it is understood as a socket

Cons

  • Only four UK reviews in the stored listing
  • No cable supplied
  • A one-wire field conflicts with an earthed coupler
  • Chunky charger plugs may not seat

Best for: You need the socket end of a lead for a Schuko plug, and you can wire up to 2.5 mm² from a diagram you can see.

Less suitable: You wanted a male plug, a wall socket, or a coupler that accepts every bulky charger.

Common questions

Is this a plug you put on a flex?

No. It is the female coupling. The title says no cable. UK reviews describe wiring it as the socket end of a lead.

Does the listing claim a protective cap?

Yes. The bullets mention a protective cap and IP44. A field says the number of wires is 1, which conflicts with an earthed coupler.

What cable size is stated?

Up to 2.5 mm², at a stated 230 V and 16 A. One UK review says it stayed cool at 13 A. That is one review, not a test.

Vecbmn UK to Schuko USB adaptor

Rank 6

Vecbmn UK to Schuko USB adaptor

∼£10

Our view

The Vecbmn 5 IN 1 CT-UK at £9.99 puts one UK socket beside two USB-C ports stated at 5 V / 3 A and two USB-A ports at 5 V / 2.4 A, with a Type E/F plug. It scores 4.6 from 297 amazon.co.uk reviews. Buyers take it to Spain and Greece so one body covers a phone and a UK plug, though one note says the USB ports are not fast charging, against those milliamp bullets. The bullets claim 4000 W, say the brick is not a voltage converter, and say the appliance should accept about 100–250 V. A 4000 W line is not a UK 13 A rating, and the specification does not name a fuse. The listing excludes Italy, and some reviews describe Canada, which is not a Type E/F country, so they are weak evidence of a European fit. Use it for a phone and one dual-voltage UK plug on a short trip, and skip it for a kettle or any load you would treat as 16 A.

Pros

  • One UK socket plus two USB-C and two USB-A ports at £9.99
  • 4.6 from 297 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Used on holidays in Spain and Greece
  • Listing says it is not a voltage converter
  • Lightweight for a suitcase, in the UK notes

Cons

  • 4000 W claimed, with no fuse printed
  • One UK review says the USB ports are not fast
  • Bullets exclude Italy
  • Some reviews describe the wrong country, including Canada

Best for: You want phone USB and one UK socket on a short trip to a Schuko or French wall, and the appliance is already dual-voltage.

Less suitable: You need Italy, a named fuse, or a kettle you would run near the 4000 W bullet.

Yes. Two USB-C ports are stated at 5 V / 3 A and two USB-A ports at 5 V / 2.4 A, plus one UK socket. One UK review says the ports did not feel fast.

Does it convert voltage?

No. The bullets say it is not a voltage converter and that the appliance should accept about 100–250 V.

Will the listing’s adaptor work in Italy?

The bullets say it will not work in Italy, and that some places may need a Type C plug. The same bullets claim a grounded Type E/F fit elsewhere.

GRIFEMA UK to Europe 2-pack

Rank 7

GRIFEMA UK to Europe 2-pack

Our view

The GRIFEMA GD605 is listed at £4.99 with 4.6 from 198 amazon.co.uk reviews, and only one UK review text is in the stored listing, which says it is good for travel. Later reviews from France, Italy, Germany, and Spain are not UK opinion. The bullets claim Type C, E, and F outputs together, plus 16 A and 4000 W on hair dryers and kettles, and they do not print a fuse. A 16 A figure is continental practice, not a clearance to pull that current through a UK 13 A travel adaptor. The bullets say two adaptors while the number-of-items field says 1, and a question about voltage conversion goes unanswered. Italy appears in the country list, while a separate bullet about accepting Type L as an input is not the same as fitting an Italian wall. At this price it looks like a saving, and the thin UK sample plus the watt claim are why it is not the best value in the folder.

Pros

  • Shelf price £4.99, the lowest in this set
  • 4.6 from 198 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • The one UK review says it works for travel
  • Bullets claim Type C, E, and F outputs
  • Compact body, 47 × 53 × 45 mm in the bullets

Cons

  • Only one UK review in the stored listing
  • 16 A and 4000 W claimed, with no fuse
  • Pack count conflicts: bullets say two, items field says 1
  • Voltage-conversion question is unanswered on the listing

Best for: You want a cheap UK-to-Europe body for a light travel load and you will ignore the 4000 W line.

Less suitable: You want a UK review sample, a named fuse, a settled pack count, or a kettle at the printed watt claim.

Common questions

Does the listing say it converts voltage?

A question in the stored listing asks that. The bullets do not answer it. They describe a pin adaptor with a 16 A and 4000 W claim.

How many adaptors are in the pack?

The bullets say two, and the unit count is 2. The number-of-items field says 1. Treat the pack size as conflicting.

Is 4000 W a UK 13 A figure?

No. The listing prints 16 A and 4000 W. It does not print a fuse. A 13 A UK travel adaptor is a lower limit than that claim.

VGUARD Schuko to UK fused adaptor

Rank 8

VGUARD Schuko to UK fused adaptor

Our view

The VGUARD adaptor, manufacturer part MPA-ATR-00100, is £5.99 and carries 4.5 from 10,947 amazon.co.uk reviews, the largest sample in this set. Buyers say it does the Europe-to-UK job and stays in the socket, and individual notes describe a snug fit on a fat fryer and a Black and Decker saw. The title says Schuko and BS 8546, while the bullets say a European 2-pin plug, a built-in 13 A fuse, and up to 3250 W. They do not print the words BS 1362, though reviews call the fuse a standard replaceable UK fuse, and the stored listing does not include a BS 8546 certificate. More than one reviewer calls the plastics thin or cheap, while another note calls the body less bulky, so the size complaint is split. It will not take a UK bathroom shaver plug, and one review describes a holiday in Europe, which is the opposite direction. It is the best value here for a guest’s short stay, on price against that review count, and it is not the conversion plug to leave on a kettle that lives in the kitchen.

Pros

  • £5.99 with 4.5 from 10,947 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Built-in 13 A fuse stated, called replaceable in UK reviews
  • UK notes describe a snug fit, including a fat fryer
  • Does the Europe-to-UK job without a lead
  • Listing says it is not a voltage converter

Cons

  • Title says Schuko and the bullets say 2-pin
  • BS 8546 is a title claim, with no certificate in the file
  • Plastics called thin or cheap by more than one reviewer
  • Bulk is disputed, and it will not take a UK shaver plug

Best for: A guest is bringing a European 2-pin plug into a UK socket for a short stay, and you will read the fuse in the body.

Less suitable: The appliance will stay plugged in at home, you need a stated earth for a true Schuko plug, or you are travelling from the UK to Europe.

Common questions

Does the listing include a fuse?

Yes. The bullets say a built-in 13 A fuse and up to 3250 W. They do not print the words BS 1362. UK reviews call the fuse a standard replaceable UK fuse.

Will a UK shaver plug fit?

No. The bullets say it only fits European 2-pin devices and will not take a UK bathroom shaver or toothbrush plug.

Is BS 8546 shown as a certificate?

The title says BS8546 certified. The stored listing does not include a certificate. The bullets describe a 2-pin adaptor, while the title says Schuko.

Mr. Gadget Schuko to UK converter

Rank 9

Mr. Gadget Schuko to UK converter

Our view

The Mr. Gadget ST-6 at £8.49 is a screw-lid converter that takes a CEE 7/7 or CEE 7/16 plug and presents a UK Type G plug. It scores 4.4 from 300 amazon.co.uk reviews, the lowest star index in this folder. Buyers use it on coffee makers, chargers, and small kitchen appliances without cutting the flex, and they call it sturdy when the plug seats fully. The bullets state BS 1363-5, a 13 A BS 1362 fuse, a lid that must close before it will plug in, and that it is not a travel adaptor. The same reviews describe a large body, a lid that can need force, and a loose connection, including one report of intermittent power within three months, which is one report rather than a failure rate. Input and output are both given as 230 V AC, so it does not convert voltage. It is the top pick here when a European appliance stays in a UK socket, and the wrong buy if the body must be small or the plug will not seat.

Pros

  • Screw-lid conversion at £8.49, not sold as a travel adaptor
  • Listing states BS 1363-5 and a 13 A BS 1362 fuse
  • Fits a CEE 7/7 or CEE 7/16 plug without cutting the flex
  • UK reviews cite coffee makers and chargers when the plug seats fully
  • 230 V in and out, so it is not a voltage converter

Cons

  • Lowest star index in the folder: 4.4 from 300 reviews
  • Large body, and the lid can need force to close
  • Connection can be loose, with one intermittent failure within three months
  • Does not fit every European plug buyers tried

Best for: A European appliance will stay in a UK socket and you can seat the plug fully, close the lid with a screwdriver, and live with a larger body.

Less suitable: You need a small travel adaptor for a week away, or the European plug will not sit home in the lid.

Common questions

Is this a travel adaptor?

The bullets say it is not. They describe a screw-lid conversion for a CEE 7/7 or CEE 7/16 plug, with the lid closed before it will plug in.

What fuse does the listing specify?

A BS 1362 13 A fuse. The bullets say to replace it only with that fuse. Input and output are both given as 230 V AC.

Do you need a tool to fit it?

Yes. Two screws lock the lid. A UK review mentions a Phillips screwdriver. Reviews also describe a large body and, in one case, a loose connection.

How we compared

Nine amazon.co.uk listings were kept: one rewirable plug, four UK-to-Schuko travel products, two Schuko-to-UK products, one coupling, and one 42 cm caravan lead. An unearthed Type C plug and two wall sockets were removed before scoring. The printed score is the amazon.co.uk star line times 20. It is a listing-star index, not a weighted safety score. Review count, a named fuse, a named British Standard, earth conflicts, and a 16 A or 4000 W bullet are not folded into that number. They are used when the badge is chosen. The weights below are those checks. They sum to 100. They do not rebuild the star index. No lab test was run. Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the stored amazon.co.uk figures from 21 October 2026.

Schuko practice goes up to 16 A. A UK socket and a BS 8546 travel adaptor are a 13 A system. A printed 16 A or 4000 W line is not treated as a safe continuous load through a UK plug.

4

Fuse and named standard

18%

The plug body has no fuse. When the UK side is involved, a stated 13 A BS 1362 fuse matters. A BS 1363-5 or BS 8546 line is what the listing states, not a certificate opened for this page.

5

Review sample and conflicts

15%

A large review count supports a short-stay badge. A thin UK sample does not. Conflicting pack counts, earth lines, weight fields and indoor lines are kept as conflicts. They are not used as features.

Schuko plug buying guide

The checks run in this order: the job and the direction, the earth path, the current against a 13 A UK plug, then the fuse and how long the arrangement stays. The table is the nine stored amazon.co.uk listings. Standards named on a listing stay seller claims. None of these plugs was tested in a lab for this page.

What is a Schuko plug?

A Schuko plug is the earthed continental plug with two 4.8 mm round pins and side earth contacts. Continental practice rates it up to 16 A. It does not go into a UK BS 1363 socket. On amazon.co.uk the same search covers five jobs: a plug you wire onto a flex, a UK-to-Europe adaptor, a Europe-to-UK adaptor or conversion plug, a female coupling, and a short lead from that plug to a 16 A blue CEE inlet. Judge direction and earth first, then the current, then any BS 1362 fuse on the UK side.

Best for

  • A European appliance that stays in a UK socket, with a stated BS 1362 fuse
  • A short trip to a Schuko wall, or a flex you are repairing with a diagram you can see

Not ideal for

  • Italy, Switzerland, or a shaver socket with smaller pins
  • Anyone treating 16 A or 4000 W as a safe continuous load through a UK 13 A plug

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying the adaptor the wrong way round

UK pins have to point at a Schuko wall, or Schuko pins at a UK wall. A coupling is the socket end of a lead you wire. A caravan fly lead is a Schuko plug into a blue CEE inlet. None of those jobs replaces the others.

  2. 2

    Reading 4000 W as a UK 13 A rating

A printed 16 A or 4000 W line is continental wording, not a clearance to pull that current through a UK plug. The body of a Schuko plug has no fuse. A BS 8546 travel adaptor is not above 13 A.

  3. 3

Treating a standards line as a certificate

UKCA, CE, VDE, BS 8546 and BS 1363-5 on these listings are claims in the text. This page did not open a certificate. IP44 or IP54 is a splash or dust claim, not a waterproof rating. Italy and Switzerland are not this system.

What to weigh up

Direction, earth and current

High

Start with the job. A rewirable plug and a female coupling both need a flex you supply. A UK-to-Schuko adaptor, including a four-way lead or a USB body, points UK pins at a continental wall. A Europe-to-UK body does the reverse. A 42 cm lead from a Schuko plug to a 16 A CEE socket is only a short fly lead. Then read the earth. CEE 7/7 is the hybrid that is meant to fit Type E and Type F. A Type C Europlug is unearthed, and one was removed from this set before scoring.

Fuse, stay or travel, and the exceptions

High

A Schuko body does not contain a fuse. Two listings in this set state a 13 A fuse on the UK side: the screw-lid converter, which names BS 1363-5, and the short-stay adaptor, whose title names BS 8546 while the bullets say a 2-pin plug. BS 8546 is the travel adaptor and excludes voltage conversion. BS 1363-5 is the fused conversion plug and excludes travel adaptors.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A European appliance that stays

The appliance will live in a UK socket and you can close a screw lid. The Mr. Gadget ST-6 is the top pick at about £8.49. The listing states BS 1363-5 and a 13 A BS 1362 fuse. It is not sold as a travel adaptor. Reviews describe a large body and a lid that can need force.

A guest on a short stay

Someone is bringing a European plug into a UK socket for a short stay. The VGUARD adaptor is the best value at about £5.99, with 4.5 from 10,947 reviews and a stated 13 A fuse. The title says Schuko and the bullets say 2-pin. Read the fuse in the body before you leave it on an appliance.

Travel to a Schuko wall

You are taking UK plugs to France, Germany or Spain, and you will check Italy separately. The VINTAR five-pack is about £17.99, with 4.8 from 222 reviews. The highlight says grounded Type E/F and the title says 2-pin, so check the earth clips on the body you receive. It is not a voltage converter.

Common questions about schuko plugs

Which Schuko plug is the top pick?
The top pick is the Mr. Gadget ST-6 screw-lid converter at about £8.49. The listing states BS 1363-5 and a 13 A BS 1362 fuse for a European plug that stays in a UK socket. It is not sold as a travel adaptor. The star line is 4.4 from 300 reviews, the lowest in this set, so this is not the highest star index. UK reviews describe a large body, a lid that can need force, and a loose connection.
Which Schuko plug is the best value?
The best value is the VGUARD MPA-ATR-00100 at about £5.99, with 4.5 from 10,947 reviews and a stated 13 A fuse. The title says BS 8546 and Schuko. The bullets say a European 2-pin plug. The badge is the price against that review count for a short stay, not a clearance to leave it on an appliance. A cheaper listing claims 16 A and 4000 W with no fuse, and only one UK review is in the stored listing.
Does a Schuko plug fit a UK socket?
No. The two round pins and the side earth contacts do not enter a BS 1363 socket. You need a UK-to-Schuko adaptor to take a UK plug to a continental wall, or a Europe-to-UK adaptor or conversion plug to bring a European plug into a UK socket. The opposite product does nothing useful. A travel adaptor changes pins only. It does not convert voltage. UK and continental mains are both nominally 230 V at 50 Hz.
Is 16 A or 4000 W safe on a UK adaptor?
No. Schuko practice goes up to 16 A. A UK socket and a BS 8546 travel adaptor are a 13 A system. A printed 16 A or 4000 W line is not a safe continuous load through a UK plug. The plug body has no fuse. When the UK side is involved, look for a stated BS 1362 fuse. A higher watt bullet does not raise the 13 A limit of the UK plug.
Is a travel adaptor the same as a conversion plug?
No. BS 8546 is the travel adaptor: no voltage conversion, and not above 13 A. BS 1363-5 is the 13 A fused conversion plug, and it excludes travel adaptors. An appliance that stays in the UK wants a standard plug or a conversion plug, not a holiday adaptor. A British Standard line on a listing is the listing's claim, not a certificate this page opened.
Will these plugs work in Italy or Switzerland?
No. Italy uses Type L and Switzerland uses Type J. Neither is Schuko. A shaver socket uses smaller pins, so a 4.8 mm pin is the wrong fit. Type F is unpolarised, so line and neutral can swap. Do not read a Europe line as every country on the continent. A listing that names Switzerland, or that says it will not work in Italy, needs to be read as a limit, not as a wider promise.
What lead do you need on a caravan pitch?
A short lead from a Schuko plug to a 16 A blue CEE inlet is a fly lead for a nearby continental socket, not a UK travel adaptor. The Camping and Caravanning Club specifies BS EN 60309-2 leads and 2.5 mm² for a typical 16 A pitch, with the cable fully uncoiled. For a longer run, see the CEE cable reel comparison. IP44 on a listing is a splash claim, not a waterproof rating.
When should you call an electrician?
Call an electrician if the sheath is damaged, the diagram is missing, the work is fixed wiring, or the body is hot or cutting out. Harmonised colours are brown, blue, and green/yellow. No diagram means stop. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 requires a standard plug, or a non-UK plug with a conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse. Do not treat a UKCA, CE or VDE line as a certificate.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Mr. Gadget ST-6 at about £8.49. The listing states BS 1363-5, a screw lid, and a 13 A BS 1362 fuse for a European plug that stays in a UK socket. It is not sold as a travel adaptor. The star line is 4.4 from 300 reviews, so this is not the highest star index. UK reviews describe a large body, a lid that can need force, and a loose connection. The best value is the VGUARD MPA-ATR-00100 at about £5.99, with 4.5 from 10,947 reviews and a stated 13 A fuse. The title says BS 8546 and Schuko. The bullets say a European 2-pin plug. That badge is the price against the review count for a short stay, not a clearance to leave the adaptor on an appliance. A cheaper listing is not the best value: one UK review is in the stored listing, and the bullets claim 16 A and 4000 W with no fuse. This page did not run a lab test.
