The best 6 way extension leads, compared.

Top pick: Masterplug BSG210N Best value: Status S6W2MS12 – Lowest shelf price at about £6.97 for a plain 2 m six-socket lead, with 4.6 from 2,272 reviews. No surge claim and no switches. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

A 6 way extension lead, also called a 6 gang lead, gives you six UK socket outlets from one wall socket. People buy one when a desk, a television or a bedside table has more plugs than sockets. Quality starts with a BS 1363 three-pin plug, a 13 A BS 1362 fuse, and shutters that close. Six sockets do not mean six times 13 A. The whole bar shares one fuse, so add up what will run at once, and do not daisy-chain a second lead. Measure the run first. A short flex suits furniture next to the socket. A longer flex reaches across the room. Read surge protection only when the listing states joules and an indicator. A neon is not that figure. Switches turn a device off without unplugging. Use USB only when the port states the output. Indoor leads are not garden leads. A keyhole slot does not replace a wall socket. Details are in the [surge protection guide](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/6-way-extension-lead/sub/6-way-extension-lead-surge-protection).

The best 6 way extension leads in detail

Masterplug BSG210N

Rank 1

Masterplug BSG210N

Our view

The Masterplug BSG210N is the basic unswitched bar at £7.12, with the highest star line in the set, 4.8 from 263 reviews. One detailed review uses the six sockets and a 2 m cable for a simple desk and likes the slim profile where switches and surge are not wanted. The title says black and model BSG210NB, while a bullet describes a slim white profile and the box-contents line says a white lead, so the colour is not settled on the page. The table lists 1 joule. UK reviews say there is no surge protection, and buyers who expected it say they did not get it. One review describes the lead as a metre long against the 2 m title. The housing is listed at 380 g, and a reviewer who plugs and unplugs often says it does not feel very durable. A one-year manufacturer warranty is what the bullets state.

Pros

  • Low price at £7.12 from a familiar brand
  • 4.8 stars from 263 reviews for a plain unswitched bar
  • Slim bar that one review says fits a small space
  • Shutters and wall fixing claimed, with a BS 1363-2 line in the bullets

Cons

  • Title says black; a bullet and the box line say white
  • 1 J in the table, while reviews say there is no surge protection
  • No individual switches
  • Light build if you plug and unplug often, and one length comment of 1 m

Best for: A simple desk that needs six sockets on a short Masterplug lead and does not need surge protection or switches.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a settled colour, a stated surge rating, or a lead they will plug and unplug every day.

Common questions

Does this basic Masterplug lead have surge protection?

The title says basic power and unswitched. The table lists 1 joule. UK reviews say there is no surge protection. Treat 1 joule as not a meaningful surge claim.

Is it black or white?

The title says black and model BSG210NB. A bullet describes a slim white profile, and the box-contents line says a white lead. The listing does not resolve that.

Are the sockets switched?

The title says unswitched. Reviews describe it as a lead without individual switches, which matched buyers who did not want them.

Pro Elec PELB1755

Rank 2

Pro Elec PELB1755

∼£10

Our view

The Pro Elec PELB1755 is the 5 m lead in this set, black, £9.99, and rated 4.7 from 3,486 reviews, the largest review count here. Buyers praise the length, the black finish and having enough sockets for a desk, and they mention surge protection in their own words. The Amazon table says surge protection and does not give joules, so this comparison does not copy a joule figure from another shop's page for the same model. The table marks the lead indoor and not water resistant. One buyer reported a buzzing plug until the wires were reseated, one of two units arrived bent, and someone who opened the plug cover disliked the wiring. A listing question about a power switch is unanswered in the bullets. The stated load is 13 A and 3,250 W, which is still one fuse shared by all six sockets.

Pros

  • 5 m cable, the longest in this set
  • 4.7 stars from 3,486 reviews
  • £9.99 for a six-socket lead with a surge claim
  • Black finish and a mountable claim

Cons

  • Joules are not stated on the amazon.co.uk table
  • Reports of a buzzing plug, a bent housing and a poor impression of the opened plug
  • Indoor only, not water resistant
  • No answered claim of a power switch

Best for: A socket across the room from a television or a desk, where 2 m will not reach and you can accept a surge claim without a joule figure.

Less suitable: Outdoor use, or a setup where you need a printed joule rating and a switch on every socket.

Common questions

How long is the Pro Elec lead?

The title and the item-length field say 5 metres. That is the longest cable among the six-socket leads kept in this comparison.

Does the listing state a joule rating?

The Amazon table says surge protection and does not give joules. The bullets describe surge protection and a neon indicator, and they say the lead is rated 13 A and BS 1363/A. This page does not copy a joule figure from another shop.

Can it be used outside?

The table says indoor and not water resistant. It does not claim a weatherproof rating.

Masterplug SRG6210N

Rank 3

Masterplug SRG6210N

∼£11

Our view

The unswitched Masterplug SRG6210N is a white 2 m bar at £10.82, rated 4.7 from 2,252 reviews, with a stated 370 J surge claim, surge and power LEDs, and the same connected-equipment wording of up to £1,000 within three years. Reviewers buy it again for desks and television units and say the 2 m reach is enough for a small office. The table weight is 480 g, and some buyers read the housing as lightweight. The specification table says six USB ports, but the bullets do not describe USB and a UK review says there are none. Reviews also say the supplied plug is moulded, while the pictures showed screws. The title says unswitched. If you want a switch on each socket, that is the SWSRG6210N listing, not this one. The table again says plug type B beside Type G.

Pros

  • 370 J claim, surge and power LEDs, and a 2 m cable
  • 4.7 stars from 2,252 reviews, often for desks and TV units
  • Connected-equipment wording up to £1,000 within three years
  • About £1.67 less than the switched Masterplug in this set

Cons

  • No individual switches
  • USB count in the table is not backed by the bullets or by a UK review
  • Pictures showed a screw plug; reviewers received a moulded plug
  • Some buyers find the housing lightweight

Best for: A television or small-office desk where you want the 370 J claim and do not need to switch sockets off.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs per-socket switches, USB charging, or a plug that can be opened and refitted.

Common questions

Is this Masterplug lead switched?

The title says unswitched. If you want a switch on each socket, that is the SWSRG6210N listing, not this SRG6210N.

Does it have USB ports?

The specification table says six USB ports. The bullets do not mention USB, and a UK review says there are no USB ports.

What surge protection is stated?

The table says 370 joules. The bullets add surge and power LEDs and a connected-equipment warranty of up to £1,000 within three years. That wording is not a lightning arrestor.

Masterplug SWSRG6210N

Rank 4

Masterplug SWSRG6210N

∼£12

Our view

Across 1,535 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.7 stars, the Masterplug SWSRG6210N is the 2 m bar that states both a 370 J surge claim and a switch on every socket. Reviewers use it for a kitchen counter of small appliances and for PCs, and they describe the switches as crisp rather than so loose they turn off by accident. The bullets also state power and surge LEDs and a three-year connected-equipment promise of up to £1,000. That promise, on Masterplug's own warranty page, is not a lightning arrestor and does not cover a daisy-chained lead. At £12.49 it sits above the plain Status bar and a little above the unswitched Masterplug SRG. Some buyers find the LEDs bright, and one measured the wall holes at 270 mm, which did not match an older switched bar. The specification table also says plug type B beside the Type G plug, so use the UK plug named in the title.

Pros

  • Switch on each of the six sockets, described as crisp in reviews
  • 370 J surge claim with power and surge LEDs
  • 2 m cable used for desks, PCs and a kitchen counter
  • Connected-equipment wording up to £1,000 within three years

Cons

  • LEDs bright enough that some buyers notice them
  • Wall-hole spacing of 270 mm may not match an older Masterplug bar
  • No USB ports described in the bullets

Best for: A desk or television with a PC, a monitor and a console, where you want each socket switched and a stated joule figure.

Less suitable: A run longer than 2 m, phone charging from the bar, or a room where indicator lights would be too bright at night.

Common questions

Does this Masterplug lead have a switch on every socket?

The bullets say six individually switched shuttered sockets. The title also says individual switches. It is the switched model SWSRG6210N, not the unswitched SRG6210N.

What surge figure does the listing give?

The specification table says 370 joules, and the bullets mention power and surge LED indicators plus a connected-equipment warranty of up to £1,000 within three years. Masterplug says that promise is not a lightning arrestor and does not cover a daisy-chained lead.

How long is the cable?

The title and the bullets say 2 metres. One review says the wall-mounting holes on this unit are 270 mm apart, which may not match an older switched bar.

Toomke 6-way

Rank 5

Toomke 6-way

∼£16

Our view

The Toomke is a white six-socket lead at £16.14, rated 4.7 from 488 reviews, with a switch on each outlet, a claimed 13 A fuse, safety doors and keyhole slots. Reviewers describe a heavy, strong-feeling plastic housing, indicator lights and a thicker cable, and they treat the switches as the reason to pay more than the cheapest bars. The title says 1.5 m and 3,250 W. Some UK reviews describe a 3 m cable, so the length on your order may not match the title. A couple of sockets need a hard press to connect. The bullets do not claim surge protection or a joule rating. At this price the switched Masterplug SWSRG6210N, at £12.49, adds a 370 J claim, though that bar is stated as 2 m rather than 1.5 m. The table weight is 600 g.

Pros

  • A switch on each socket, which reviews single out
  • Housing described as heavy and strong
  • 13 A fuse, safety doors and keyhole slots claimed
  • 4.7 stars from 488 reviews

Cons

  • Title length is 1.5 m; some reviews say 3 m
  • No surge claim
  • A couple of sockets need a hard press
  • Dearer than the switched Masterplug surge bar in this set

Best for: A kitchen or office where you want each appliance switched off at the bar and you do not need a joule claim.

Less suitable: A television or PC you want on a stated surge rating, or an order where the cable must be exactly 1.5 m.

Common questions

Does the Toomke lead have surge protection?

The listing asks the question and the bullets do not claim surge protection or a joule rating. They do claim a 13 A fuse, safety doors and a fire-resistant case.

What cable length should you plan for?

The title says 1.5 m. Some UK reviews describe a 3 m cable. Use the title length unless the seller confirms otherwise on your order.

Can each socket be switched off?

The bullets say each AC outlet has its own switch. Reviews praise that, and one says a couple of sockets need a hard press to connect.

Status S6W2MS12

Rank 6

Status S6W2MS12

Our view

The Status S6W2MS12 is the £6.97 lead in this set, rated 4.6 from 2,272 amazon.co.uk reviews, with a 2 m cable and a neon indicator. Reviewers say it does the basic job, that the sockets hold plugs, and that the white finish is fine for a desk or a television. The bullets do not claim surge protection, and they contrast the lead with bulky surge bricks. A review notes the lack of individual switches, so a socket stays live until you unplug it. UK reviews also say the plug is a sealed moulded plug, not the rewireable plug in the pictures, so you cannot take it off to shorten the flex. The bullets claim up to 3,120 W at 230 V, which is the same 13 A fuse as a listing that prints 3,250 W. Wall mounting is a question on the listing, not a claimed keyhole slot.

Pros

  • Lowest price in this set at £6.97
  • 2,272 reviews at 4.6 stars for a plain 2 m bar
  • Neon indicator and child-safe shutters claimed
  • Sockets that reviewers say hold plugs

Cons

  • No surge claim and no individual switches
  • Plug is moulded in reviews, not the rewireable plug in the pictures
  • Wall mounting is not described in the bullets

Best for: A desk or television that only needs six ordinary sockets on a 2 m lead, at the lowest price in this comparison.

Less suitable: A PC or television you want on a stated joule rating, or a flex you planned to shorten by removing the plug.

Common questions

Does the Status lead include surge protection?

The bullets do not claim surge protection. They describe a 13 A, 2 m lead and contrast it with bulky surge bricks. The listing question about surge protection is unanswered.

Can you rewire the plug?

UK reviews say the plug is a sealed moulded plug, not the rewireable plug shown in the pictures, so it cannot be taken off to shorten the flex.

Are the six sockets switched?

A review notes the lack of individual switches. The special-features field lists a neon indicator, not switches.

Dewenwils 6-way

Rank 7

Dewenwils 6-way

∼£17

Our view

The Dewenwils is a black 3 m lead at £16.99, rated 4.6 from 2,224 reviews. The bullets say 13 A, 3,250 W and 270 J, plus a resettable breaker in the plug and a spare fuse, and reviewers buy it to protect a PC. They praise per-socket switches, indicator lights in the dark, the two screw mounts and a cable longer than some of them expected. One bullet says four individual switches on a lead the title sells as a 6 way with individual switches, and the reviews do not settle the number. The specification field labelled surge protection says 13 amps, which repeats the current rating rather than the joule figure. Switches can be stiff at first, and new plugs can be hard to push in. One reviewer says the build is not good enough for the price. It is the mid-length option between the 2 m Masterplug bars and the 5 m Pro Elec.

Pros

  • 3 m cable, longer than the 2 m bars
  • 270 J stated in the bullets
  • 4.6 stars from 2,224 reviews, including PC setups
  • Indicator lights, screw mounts, a resettable breaker and a spare fuse claimed

Cons

  • One bullet says four switches on a six-socket lead
  • Surge cell in the table says 13 amps, not joules
  • Stiff switches and tight sockets when new
  • £16.99, with one review saying the build does not match the price

Best for: A study where the socket is about 3 m away and you want switches plus a printed joule figure.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs the switch count to be unambiguous, or a 5 m run.

Common questions

How many switches does the Dewenwils listing describe?

The title says individual switches on a 6 way lead. One bullet says four individual switches. Reviews praise per-socket switches and do not settle the number.

What surge figure is in the bullets?

The bullets say 270 joules. The specification field labelled surge protection says 13 amps, which repeats the current rating rather than a joule figure.

How long is the cable?

The bullets and the item highlight say 3 metres. Reviews describe that length as longer than some buyers expected.

SE UKASE switched

Rank 8

SE UKASE switched

∼£24

Our view

The SE UKASE switched bar is the dearest lead in this set at £23.99, rated 4.6 from 155 reviews, with a stated 2 m cable, a switch on each socket, a separate USB switch, two USB-A ports, two USB-C ports and two keyhole slots. The bullets say DC 5 V at 5 A total, shared across the ports, and they do not state a Power Delivery wattage or a joule rating. Office reviewers like the USB control and the lights that show what is on, and one wanted the cable entry on the left. The same lights are too bright for a bedroom in one review. One buyer cut the moulded plug off to route the cable through a drawer, which is not routine use of a sealed plug. One review says the unit blew and cut the electricity after two weeks. The colour cell says SU 926U while the bullets say white. A one-year replacement is what the bullets offer.

Pros

  • Switch per socket plus a USB charging switch
  • 2 m cable and two keyhole slots
  • Two USB-A and two USB-C ports at a stated 5 V, 5 A total
  • Office reviewers describe it as useful when many plugs share a desk

Cons

  • Highest price in this set at £23.99, with no joule claim
  • LEDs too bright for a bedroom in one review
  • One report of the unit failing after two weeks
  • Colour cell says SU 926U; bullets say white

Best for: An office desk that needs six switched sockets and shared 5 V charging on a 2 m lead, and does not need a surge claim.

Less suitable: A bedroom, laptop USB-C charging, or a television you want on a stated joule rating.

Common questions

Does this SE UKASE bar claim surge protection?

The listing asks the question. The special-features field says USB slot only, and the bullets do not give a joule rating.

Can the USB ports be switched off?

The bullets describe a USB charging switch as well as independent switches for the sockets. Reviews mention that USB control and also say the LEDs are bright for a bedroom.

Is it wall mountable?

The bullets say two keyhole slots on the rear. The cable length in the title is 2 m. The bullets state DC 5 V at 5 A total, shared, and do not state a Power Delivery wattage.

SE UKASE tower

Rank 9

SE UKASE tower

∼£17

Our view

The SE UKASE tower is a white six-socket unit at £16.99, rated 4.6 from 81 reviews, with two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports. The bullets state a shared DC 5 V output at 4.2 A total, not a USB Power Delivery wattage, so a laptop that expects 20 W or more is outside what this listing prints. When the ports work, reviewers like having USB-A and USB-C together and say the inline sockets take bulky plugs more easily than a tight block. UK reviews also report USB-C ports that do not work, including a buyer who says four white units failed, and USB plugs that became intermittent. The bullets claim surge protection and a surge light without a joule figure, and they do not describe socket switches. One review says the buyer expected switches and the unit does not have them. Cable length is absent from the table. The title says 2,990 W, while the current cells list both 2 A and 13 A.

Pros

  • Tower shape that reviewers say takes bulky plugs
  • Two USB-A and two USB-C ports on the unit
  • Shared 5 V at 4.2 A total, stated in the bullets
  • 13 A fuse in the plug claimed

Cons

  • UK reviews report dead or intermittent USB-C ports
  • No USB Power Delivery wattage and no stated cable length
  • No socket switches in the bullets
  • Surge claimed without joules, and the current cells disagree

Best for: A desk that needs a tower of six sockets and shared 5 V charging for phones, if you can return it when a USB-C port is dead.

Less suitable: Laptop charging, a bedroom that needs switches, or anyone who needs a measured cable length before they order.

Does the tower have switches?

The bullets do not describe socket switches. One UK review says the buyer expected switches and the unit does not have them.

The specification table does not state a cable length. Reviews mention a useful length for a desk, without a measurement.

Desiretech 6-gang

Rank 10

Desiretech 6-gang

Our view

The Desiretech is a white six-gang lead at £8.99, rated 4.5 from 85 reviews, with a 1 m cable in the bullets, the shortest stated length in this set. The bullets claim BS 1363A, safety shutters, a 13 A fuse and hanger holes, and they do not claim surge protection. Reviewers say the sockets fit and the cable feels secured, and one longer review describes a fused lead with an active light. One buyer measured 88 cm against the 1 m title, and others found the lead while looking for 3 m. Several reviews describe scuffed, dirty or second-hand-looking condition on arrival. With 85 reviews the evidence is thinner than for the Status lead or the Masterplug surge bars. The table weight is 320 g. It is a close-to-the-socket bar, not a lead for the far side of a room.

Pros

  • 1 m cable when the wall socket is beside the furniture
  • BS 1363A, shutters and a 13 A fuse claimed in the bullets
  • Hanger holes for wall mounting
  • White finish that reviewers accept for a bedroom or office

Cons

  • Shorter than some buyers expected, including one measurement of 88 cm
  • No surge claim
  • Scuffed or dirty arrivals in several reviews
  • Only 85 reviews

Best for: A bedside table or a desk that sits next to the socket, where a 1 m flex will not trail across the floor.

Less suitable: A 3 m or 5 m run, surge protection for a television, or a buyer who wants a large review sample.

Common questions

How long is the Desiretech cable?

The bullets say 1 metre. One UK review measured 88 cm and another said the cable was shorter than expected.

Does it have surge protection?

The bullets do not claim surge protection. A review describes it as a fused lead with a light and without surge protection.

Can it be fixed to a wall?

The bullets say it has hanger holes so the strip can be mounted. They do not include screws.

How we compared

Ten amazon.co.uk listings were scored for this page. Weights sum to 100. Shelf date 19 October 2026. Stars, review counts, joule wording, switches and cable length come from those listings. A joule figure is what the page claims, not a measured surge test. There was no lab test, and a BS 1363 line on a listing is not a test this page carried out. The best value badge is the lowest shelf price for a plain 2 m six-socket lead with a large review count. It is not the second-highest score.

Stated joules in the bullets or the surge cell add 4. A 1 J cell that reviews treat as no surge protection does not earn this. A joule figure is not a lightning claim.

4

Switches, cable and USB

10%

A switch on each socket adds 3. A cable of 3 m or longer adds 2. A USB block that states a shared 5 V total adds 1. Shared 5 V current is not a USB Power Delivery wattage.

5

Conflicts and faults

10%

One material listing conflict subtracts 4. A repeated fault theme subtracts 3. A 1 J cell that reviews treat as no surge protection subtracts 2. A price above £20 with no joule claim subtracts 2.

6 way extension lead buying guide

The checks run in this order: UK plug and fuse, the shared 13 A limit, the cable length you measured, then joules and switches, then USB only if the port states an output. The table is the ten stored listings from 19 October 2026. Joule figures stay seller claims. None of these leads was surge-tested in a lab for this page.

What is a 6 way extension lead?

A 6 way extension lead, also called a 6 gang lead, gives you six UK socket outlets from one wall socket. You use it when a desk, a television or a bedside table has more plugs than the wall provides. UK mains are nominally 230 V and the plug is Type G. The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 require a standard plug to contain or be accompanied by a BS 1362 fuse.

Best for

  • A desk or television with several low-power plugs on one 13 A fuse
  • A measured run of 2 m, 3 m or 5 m where the wall socket is not beside the furniture

Not ideal for

  • Kettles, toasters and microwaves sharing one bar
  • Garden use, or a second lead plugged into the first

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading six sockets as 78 A

The bar shares one fuse. 2,990 W, 3,120 W and 3,250 W on these listings are the same 13 A fuse at 230 V, 240 V and 250 V. Kent Fire and Rescue Service says do not exceed 13 A or 3,000 W in total. Do not daisy-chain.

  2. 2

Trusting the plug in the photo

UK reviews of the Status lead, and of the unswitched Masterplug SRG, say the plug that arrived was moulded, while the pictures showed a plug that could be opened. You cannot shorten the flex by taking that plug off.

  3. 3

Treating USB-C or a neon as more than it is

The SE UKASE ports state shared 5 V current, not a laptop Power Delivery wattage, and tower reviews report dead USB-C ports. A neon on a non-surge lead is not proof that surge parts are fitted or still working.

What to weigh up

Plug, fuse and shared load

High

Start with a BS 1363 three-pin plug, a 13 A BS 1362 fuse, and shutters that close. The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 require a standard plug to contain or be accompanied by a BS 1362 fuse. BEAMA's checklist looks for BS 1363-1 on the plug and BS 1363-2 on the portable sockets. A BS line in the bullets is the seller's claim. This page did not test it. Then read the current, not the socket count. Six outlets still share one fuse.

Length, surge, switches and USB

High

Measure the run. This set runs from 1 m to 5 m, and the SE UKASE tower does not state a length. The Toomke title says 1.5 m and some UK reviews say 3 m, so use the title unless the seller confirms the order. A cable of 3 m or longer is the Dewenwils at 3 m and the Pro Elec at 5 m. Surge protection is worth paying for only when you are protecting electronics and the listing states joules and an indicator. The Masterplug SRG and SWSRG state 370 J.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Desk with a PC or television

You want each socket switched and a printed joule figure on a 2 m lead. The Masterplug SWSRG6210N is the top pick at about £12.49, with 4.7 from 1,535 reviews and a stated 370 J claim. The LEDs are bright for some buyers, and the connected-equipment wording is not a lightning arrestor.

Plain sockets at the lowest price

You only need six ordinary sockets on a 2 m lead. The Status S6W2MS12 is the best value at about £6.97, with 4.6 from 2,272 reviews and a neon indicator. It has no surge claim and no individual switches, and reviews say the plug is moulded.

A socket across the room

2 m will not reach. The Pro Elec PELB1755 is the 5 m lead at about £9.99, with 4.7 from 3,486 reviews and a surge claim that does not state joules. It is marked indoor and not water resistant.

Common questions about 6 way extension leads

Which 6 way extension lead is the top pick?
The top pick is the Masterplug SWSRG6210N, at about £12.49. The amazon.co.uk line in this file is 4.7 from 1,535 reviews, with a switch on each socket and a stated 370 J claim. The LEDs are bright for some buyers. The connected-equipment wording, up to £1,000 within three years, is not a lightning arrestor and does not cover a daisy-chained lead.
What does a 6 way extension lead cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this 19 October 2026 capture, entry bars run about £6.97 to £9.99. Mid listings run about £10.82 to £16.99. The SE UKASE switched bar is about £23.99. The lowest price, the Status at about £6.97, is the best value because it is a plain 2 m lead with 2,272 reviews. Confirm the live amazon.co.uk price before you buy. These figures are stored shelf prices, not a quote.
Do six sockets mean you can draw 78 A?
Six sockets share one fuse. They do not provide 78 A. A 13 A fuse at 230 V is 2,990 W, at 240 V is 3,120 W, and at 250 V is 3,250 W. Listings print all three. They are the same fuse unless the lead is marked lower. Kent Fire and Rescue Service says do not exceed 13 A or 3,000 W in total. Do not daisy-chain a second lead.
Are 2,990 W and 3,250 W different capacities?
On these 13 A leads they are the same fuse. 13 A times 230 V is 2,990 W and 13 A times 250 V is 3,250 W. The listings are printing that fuse at different nominal voltages. Treat them as one shared limit, and keep kettles, toasters and microwaves off the same bar.
Will the USB-C ports charge a laptop?
Both SE UKASE leads state a shared 5 V current, 4.2 A total on the tower and 5 A total on the switched bar. They do not state a USB Power Delivery wattage, so a laptop that expects 20 W or more is outside what these listings print. UK reviews of the tower also report USB-C ports that do not work. Use them for phone charging, and check the port on day one.
Does a joule rating stop a lightning strike?
Masterplug's warranty page says the lead is not a lightning arrestor. The SRG and SWSRG state 370 J, and the Dewenwils bullets say 270 J. The connected-equipment promise excludes lightning and daisy-chaining. A 1 J cell on the basic Masterplug, or a neon on a non-surge lead, is not surge protection. A surge claim with no joules, as on the Pro Elec table, is not a printed joule rating.
When should you call an electrician?
Call a qualified person if the fuse blows again after you remove the heavy appliance, if you see scorch marks or bare cores, if you want permanent extra sockets, or if you need power in a bathroom or outdoors. Stop using a lead that smells hot, scorches, buzzes or blows a fuse again. Cutting and reterminating the flex is also a job for a qualified person. A keyhole slot does not replace a new wall socket.
What if you need more than six sockets?
An eight-socket bar is a different comparison. See the extension lead 8-way page. More sockets still share one fuse. This table stays at six outlets. A shorter bar is a separate comparison too, and an 8 way lead was outside the six-socket set kept here.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Masterplug SWSRG6210N at about £12.49, with 4.7 from 1,535 reviews, a switch on each socket and a stated 370 J surge claim. Some buyers find the LEDs bright, and the connected-equipment wording is not a lightning arrestor. The best value is the Status S6W2MS12 at about £6.97, with 4.6 from 2,272 reviews, a 2 m cable and a neon indicator. It has no surge claim and no individual switches. The Dewenwils lead scores higher than the Status bar. It is not the value pick, because that badge is the lowest shelf price for a plain 2 m six-socket lead with a large review count.
