Schuko to CEE caravan adapter: short 42 cm fly lead

Updated: 23 October 2026

Your UK caravan lead ends in a blue 16 A connector, and the socket on a French or Spanish pitch is a domestic Schuko outlet beside the van. A Schuko to CEE caravan adapter joins those two patterns. It is not the cable that crosses a field, and it is not a voltage converter. Other products in the set are on the [Schuko plug comparison](/hub/sockets-and-extension-leads/schuko-plug). The plug on the wall and the plug on the van

A house socket on the continent takes a Schuko plug, two 4.8 mm pins and side earth. A UK van inlet expects the blue BS EN 60309-2 connector. Those ends do not mate. The fly lead puts Schuko toward the wall and a 16 A CEE socket toward the lead you own. If the site may be Italy, use the Schuko plug buying guide.

What the Double Dragon listing actually says

Double Dragon EU-HUP-230 is a 42 cm lead at £7.48, stated at 230 V, 16 A, and 3680 W. It scores 4.7 from 258 reviews. Several buyers had not used it. The title claims IP44, EN 60309, and VDE, without certificates in the stored listing. Other fields say indoor, Type E, and no extension cord, against the 42 cm lead. That length reaches a socket beside the van, not a bollard across the pitch.

10 A, 16 A, and which way is live

The Camping and Caravanning Club describes 10 A and 16 A supplies, about 2,300 W and 3,680 W at 230 V. The 3680 W line on this lead does not raise the breaker. Uncoil any reel, and do not bridge the gap with tape on a 13 A extension. On Type F, line and neutral swap if you turn the plug. On Type E, an earth pin stops the turn.

When a fly lead is the wrong tool

Use 42 cm when the socket is beside the van and your own lead does the rest, fully uncoiled. Further away, buy a longer Schuko-to-CEE cable that states length and conductor size. Stop if the sheath is cut or the blue socket is cracked. IP44 is a splash claim, and an indoor field contradicts it. Wiring a flex at home is the how to wire a Schuko plug page, not a live bollard.

Common questions

Why does my UK caravan lead not fit a European house socket?
The UK lead is built for a blue 16 A BS EN 60309-2 inlet or bollard. A European house socket is Schuko, with round pins and side earth. The patterns do not mate. A Schuko-to-CEE fly lead puts the Schuko plug in the wall and gives your blue connector a socket to enter. It does not replace the long lead, and it does not change the pitch from 10 A to 16 A.
Is 42 cm long enough?
It is long enough when the continental socket is next to the van and your existing lead covers the rest. UK reviews describe that use in France and Spain, and a spare kept in the boot. It is not long enough for a bollard across the pitch. Longer Schuko-to-CEE leads exist from other sellers, in the 1–20 m band, at prices that are not this £7.48 amazon.co.uk listing. Measure the gap before you treat 42 cm as the whole cable.
What current can a pitch actually give?
The Camping and Caravanning Club describes 10 A and 16 A supplies. As their arithmetic, that is about 2,300 W and about 3,680 W at 230 V. The site’s breaker is the limit, not the 3680 W line on the fly lead. A 10 A pitch stays a 10 A pitch. Uncoil reels, and do not share the supply with a second high-load heater if the bollard is already near its rating. If the breaker trips at once, reduce the load or ask the site. Do not bypass it.
What does reverse polarity mean on a Schuko socket?
On a Type F Schuko socket the plug can go in either way, so line and neutral can swap. That is what reverse polarity means in this context. Turning the plug over changes which pin is live. It does not rewire the van, and a Type E socket with an earth pin may not allow the turn. Use a tester if the van maker tells you to check, and follow the van’s instructions if a reversed supply is forbidden. Earth still has to connect.
Does IP44 mean I can leave the joint in a puddle?
No. IP44 on this listing is a splash claim, and another field on the same page says indoor. Neither line was verified here, and neither means waterproof. Keep the joint off the ground and out of standing water. A protective cap, where a product has one, is for the socket when it is unused, not a seal for a connection lying in a puddle. If the moulding is cracked, retire the lead.
When do I need an electrician instead of a fly lead?
When the sheath or the inlet is damaged, the supply trips with nothing switched on, or the fault is inside the van’s fixed wiring. A 42 cm lead cannot repair a burnt connector. Do not retape a household 13 A joint, and do not open the consumer unit on the pitch. An electrician, or the van dealer if the inlet has failed, is the stop line. The fly lead only joins a sound Schuko socket to a sound blue lead.
