ABUS padlock comparison 2026

The best ABUS padlocks, compared.

Top pick: ABUS 70IB/45 Aqua Safe padlock – Highest score: 4.6 from 1,173 reviews, a cap and drainage, for outdoor gates and sheds at about £19. Water from the top is already in the score. Best value: ABUS 64TI/45 Titalium padlock – About £6.99 with ABUS level 5 and a stated 7 mm shackle. The shared 4.5 from 4,131 and no weather cap keep it under the Aqua Safe. Updated October 2026.

An ABUS padlock is a keyed or combination lock with a shackle, sold under the ABUS brand on amazon.co.uk, for a locker, a box, a gate or a shed door. You are choosing a body size and a weather design inside a brand you already want. Match the printed ABUS security level, the shackle and the rain design to the staple you have. Water can still enter from the top, and this listing does not print an ABUS level. ABUS’s 1-to-10 number is not a BS EN 12320 grade and not Sold Secure. The [ABUS padlock buying guide](/hub/door-and-window-security/abus-padlock/sub/abus-padlock-buying-guide) sets the order: fit, then the printed level, then weather, then keys. The jobs in the listings are lockers, boxes, gates and shed doors. You are not shopping for padlocks in general. Quality here is a match, not a single star line. You need the staple hole, the thickness the shackle must pass, and the clear height and width.

The best ABUS padlocks in detail

ABUS 70IB/45 Aqua Safe padlock

Rank 1

ABUS 70IB/45 Aqua Safe padlock

∼£19

Our view

Across 1,173 amazon.co.uk reviews, the 70IB/45 Aqua Safe sits at 4.6 and about £19, ranked 48 in Keyed Padlocks. The brass body is 49 mm wide, with an 8 mm shackle, 24 mm of clear height, a protective cap, drainage channels and an encapsulated body. The title calls the shackle stainless, and reviews say two keys come in the box. Buyers fit it in place of rusted locks on gates, sheds and garage doors, and one report still opens after salt air near the Channel. The weatherproof wording is stronger than the reviews: several say water can still reach the mechanism from the top, and some still use a water-displacing spray. One reviewer said it does not like water, and another said it is not enough on its own for a bike. This listing does not print an ABUS security level. The ABUS sheet for this model is recorded as level 5. That number is not on the amazon.co.uk bullets, and it is not a BS EN 12320 grade.

Pros

  • Protective cap, drainage and an encapsulated brass body at about £19
  • 4.6 from 1,173 reviews, rank 48 in Keyed Padlocks
  • 8 mm shackle and 24 mm clear height; the title says stainless
  • Press the shackle to lock
  • Reports of opening after a British winter or Channel salt air

Cons

  • Water can still enter from the top
  • Only two keys, a repeated complaint
  • No ABUS security level printed on this listing
  • Not enough on its own for a bike, in one review

Best for: A garden gate, shed door or chain that gets rain, if the 20 mm clear width fits the staple.

Less suitable: A bike left on its own, or a hasp that needs more than 24 mm of clear height.

Common questions

Is the Aqua Safe described as weatherproof?

Yes. The bullets cite a protective cap, drainage channels and an encapsulated body. Several reviews still say water can get in from the top, so the listing claim and the review complaints both stand.

What is the shackle diameter?

The bullets say 8 mm, with 24 mm clear height and 20 mm clear width. The title calls the shackle stainless.

Does the listing print an ABUS security level?

No. It says the lock is for medium-sized valuables or an average risk of theft, and it does not print a level number. The ABUS sheet for the 70IB/45 is recorded as level 5. That is not the same as a BS EN 12320 grade.

ABUS 64TI/45 Titalium padlock

Rank 2

ABUS 64TI/45 Titalium padlock

Our view

Across a shared file of 4,131 amazon.co.uk reviews, the 64TI/45 is a 45 mm special-aluminium padlock at about £6.99, with a 7 mm hardened shackle and 24 mm of clear height. The highlight includes two keys, and the bullets print ABUS security level 5 for doors, roller shutters, lockers and toolboxes. Reviewers in that shared sample call it light for the size and still sturdy, and one says a pry-bar left only surface scratches. A back-gate user saw no early rust over a couple of years, while another lock sold as weatherproof seized after a couple of showers. The key jammed twice in less than a month for one buyer, and one reviewer said the lock can be opened with shims. Those complaints sit on the same review text as the 80 mm shackle, so they are not pinned to this 45 mm body alone. The listing states no protective cap and no drainage.

Pros

  • 45 mm Titalium body at about £6.99 with ABUS security level 5 printed
  • 7 mm hardened shackle and 24 mm clear height
  • Highlight includes two keys
  • Shared 4.5 from 4,131 reviews, described as light and still sturdy

Cons

  • No protective cap or drainage stated
  • Key jams and a shim claim in the shared review text
  • The 4,131 reviews are the same file as the high-shackle listing

Best for: Everyday lockers, shutters and toolboxes at average risk, when 24 mm of clearance is enough.

Less suitable: A wet gate that needs a sealed body, or a staple the short shackle cannot reach.

Common questions

What ABUS security level is the 64TI/45?

The amazon.co.uk bullets say ABUS security level 5. They also give a 7 mm hardened steel shackle and a special aluminium body. That level 5 is not a BS EN 12320 grade 5.

Does it include keys?

The item highlight says the lock includes two keys. The included-components line only says padlock.

Is a weather cap listed?

No. The listing names doors, roller shutters, lockers and toolboxes, and does not mention a protective cap or drainage channels.

ABUS 64TI/50HB80 high-shackle padlock

Rank 3

ABUS 64TI/50HB80 high-shackle padlock

∼£18

Our view

The 64TI/50HB80 is the long-shackle Titalium at about £18.49, with a 50 mm special-aluminium body, an 8 mm hardened shackle and 80 mm of clear height. The bullets print ABUS security level 6. The amazon.co.uk listing shows the same 4.5 from 4,131 reviews, and the same review text, as the 64TI/45, so that sample is a family rating rather than proof about this 80 mm bar alone. Buyers in the shared text who wanted a longer shank mention a shed, alongside the same praise for a light, sturdy lock and the same complaints about a jammed key, a claimed shim opening, and a lock that seized after rain. The listing does not state a weather cap or a key count. Eighty millimetres of clear height reaches a deep staple or a chain, and it also leaves more bar exposed than the 24 mm shackle on the 64TI/45.

Pros

  • 80 mm clear height and an 8 mm hardened shackle
  • ABUS security level 6 printed on the listing
  • Shared 4.5 from 4,131 family reviews
  • Reaches staples and chains a 24 mm shackle misses

Cons

  • Same review file as the 64TI/45, so faults are not pinned to this shackle
  • No cap or drainage stated
  • More of the bar is left exposed
  • Key count not stated

Best for: A deep staple, a chain, or a roller shutter where 24 mm of clearance is not enough.

Less suitable: A tight hasp that a short shackle would close with less bar exposed, or a lock expected to be sealed against rain.

Common questions

How long is the shackle?

The bullets give a clear shackle height of 80 mm and a clear width of 28 mm, on an 8 mm hardened steel shackle.

What ABUS security level is listed?

The listing says ABUS security level 6. That is one level above the 64TI/45 bullets in this set. It is not a BS EN 12320 grade 6.

Are the reviews only for this long shackle?

The listing shows the same 4,131 reviews and the same review text as the 64TI/45. Treat them as a shared family rating.

ABUS 60/40 brass padlock

Rank 4

ABUS 60/40 brass padlock

Our view

At about £6.75 and 35 g, the ABUS 60/40 is a small brass-body padlock with a hardened steel shackle, rated 4.5 from 186 amazon.co.uk reviews and ranked 9 in Keyed Padlocks. Buyers who wanted a short shackle use it on shed doors, and one report covers wet weather, frost and snow without the key sticking. Several call it well made for the price, and some saw no early rust. The body is smaller than many people pictured: one reviewer called it tiny and said it was not security level 5, after an advert claimed level 5 and the box did not. Another lock rusted after two days of rain and was returned. This listing does not print an ABUS security level. The series table’s level 5 dimensions do not match this body, so it does not get a confirmed level. Ornamental gate bolts can be awkward for the clasp.

Pros

  • Solid brass body at about £6.75, rank 9 in Keyed Padlocks
  • 4.5 from 186 reviews
  • Hardened steel shackle and stainless internals in the highlight
  • One shed user kept the key working through frost and snow

Cons

  • 35 g and 40 × 23 × 17 mm, smaller than buyers expected
  • No ABUS security level printed; one advert-versus-box dispute
  • Rust after two days of rain in one return
  • Key count not stated

Best for: A low-risk locker or a light gate, if this small body actually fits the staple.

Less suitable: A large staple, a buyer who needs a printed security level, or a lock left in driving rain.

Common questions

Is the 60/40 weatherproof?

The listing puts indoor and outdoor among recommended uses, and the highlight mentions stainless internal parts. It does not describe a cap or drainage. Reviews include both a shed that stayed workable in snow and rust after two days of rain.

What is the shackle made of?

The bullets say a hardened steel shackle. The body is described as solid brass. The listing does not print a shackle diameter or a clear height.

What security level does the listing state?

This amazon.co.uk listing does not print an ABUS security level. One reviewer said an advert claimed level 5 and the box did not. The series dimensions for level 5 do not match this body.

ABUS T65AL/40 myLOCK padlock

Rank 5

ABUS T65AL/40 myLOCK padlock

∼£14

Our view

The blue T65AL/40 is a 43 mm aluminium locker padlock at about £13.91, with ABUS security level 5, a 6.5 mm Nano Protect shackle and 23 mm of clear height. It locks when you press the shackle down, and the plastic casing can be written on with a felt-tip pen. Across 113 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.4, though only 15 review texts are recorded with the listing. Those texts mention a heavy feel, thick keys, and short spells of water on a back-garden gate and a patio-door bar. One buyer received the wrong colour, and another did not realise the coating was meant to be written on. A single review calls it easy to break, without saying how. The key count is not stated on the included-components line. Fifteen texts is a thin record next to the Titalium family’s thousands. ABUS’s own page for this series also lists EN 12320 class 2, so level 5 and class 2 are different scales.

Pros

  • ABUS security level 5, with a writable coating
  • Locks when the shackle is pressed, no key needed to close it
  • 6.5 mm Nano Protect shackle and 23 mm clear height
  • 4.4 from 113 reviews, easy to spot on a locker

Cons

  • Only 15 review texts recorded with the listing
  • One colour mismatch and one easy-to-break comment
  • Key count not stated
  • No drainage cap on the listing

Best for: A named school or gym locker, or a toolbox you lock by pushing the shackle.

Less suitable: A high-risk shed, or a buyer who needs a counted set of keys in the listing.

Common questions

ABUS 145/40 combination padlock

Rank 6

ABUS 145/40 combination padlock

∼£16

Our view

The 145/40 is a four-digit combination padlock at about £15.92, with an anodised aluminium body, ABUS security level 4, a 6 mm shackle and 26 mm of clear height. Across 472 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.2. Gym-locker buyers like the light body and a colour that is easy to spot, and they treat it as a way to stop casual access rather than a high-security lock. Dials stick, and some need a press on the body before they turn. Numbers can sit off the line so the shackle will not open. One unit would not lock or reset from the factory zeros and was replaced by Amazon. One school locker jammed after three days and had to be broken off. Outdoors, one report describes rust and a seized wheel within two months. A forgotten code is not recoverable from the reviews. The factory code on ABUS’s 145 sheet is 0000.

Pros

  • Resettable four-digit code, so there is no key to lose
  • ABUS security level 4, 6 mm shackle, 26 mm clear height
  • 4.2 from 472 reviews, used on gym lockers
  • Light anodised aluminium body

Cons

  • Dials stick or sit off the line
  • Not a high-security lock; one code was felt out in minutes
  • Rust and a seized wheel after outdoor use
  • A forgotten code cannot be recovered

Best for: A gym or school locker, or a cupboard, if you can keep the code.

Less suitable: A wet gate, or anything where a felt-out combination is a real risk.

Common questions

Does the 145/40 need a key?

No. The listing describes a 4-digit code and says no key is required. The factory code on ABUS’s 145 sheet is 0000. A forgotten code cannot be recovered from the reviews.

Can it live on an outdoor gate?

The listing does not call it weatherproof. Recommended use is Bag. Reviews include rust and stuck wheels after outdoor use, and gym-locker use where it is kept dry.

What security level is printed?

The bullets say ABUS security level 4, for medium-sized valuables or an average risk of theft. That is not a BS EN 12320 grade 4.

ABUS 83WP/63 Extreme padlock

Rank 7

ABUS 83WP/63 Extreme padlock

∼£47

Our view

The 83WP/63 is the heavy end of this set at about £47.41, with 526 g in the bullet, a plastic-coated hardened-steel body and an 11.5 mm Nano Protect shackle with 35 mm of clear height. The bullets print ABUS security level 9, a cylinder cover and sealed shackle holes, and a Z-bar that chooses key locking or locking by pressing the shackle. Across 85 amazon.co.uk reviews it sits at 4.1, with only 13 review texts recorded with the listing. Those texts call it heavy and solid, and one buyer fitted it on a shed because an insurer asked for a strong lock. A key snapped in a jammed barrel on a new lock, and another would not open after long periods unused. One reviewer warns that the shackle is too thick for a small staple hole. The model-name field says 83Wp/53 while the part number and the dimensions say 83WP/63. Level 9 is ABUS’s own scale, not Sold Secure Diamond and not CEN grade 6.

Pros

  • ABUS security level 9 and an 11.5 mm hardened shackle
  • Plastic-coated body, cylinder cover and sealed shackle holes
  • Z-bar chooses key locking or press-to-lock
  • Used where a buyer wanted a heavier shed lock

Cons

  • 4.1 from 85 reviews, and only 13 texts
  • Jammed barrel and a snapped key on a new lock
  • Seized after being left unused
  • 11.5 mm shackle misses a small staple; about £47.41 if it then fails

Best for: A shed, gate or tool store at higher risk, when the staple hole takes an 11.5 mm shackle.

Less suitable: A small hasp, a lock that sits unused for months, or a budget locker.

Common questions

What security level is on the listing?

The bullets say ABUS security level 9, for larger valuables or a high risk of theft. That number is not a BS EN 12320 grade, and this listing was not confirmed as Sold Secure approved.

Will the shackle fit a small staple?

The shackle diameter in the bullets is 11.5 mm, with 35 mm clear height. One reviewer says to check the staple hole because it is large.

Can it lock without the key?

The listing says the Z-bar lets you choose locking with a key or automatic locking by pressing the shackle.

How we compared

Seven amazon.co.uk ABUS padlock listings were scored on the star line and how many UK review texts sit behind it, on whether the listing prints an ABUS security level, a measurable shackle and a weather design, on faults in those reviews, and on the shelf price against that job. The two Titalium listings share one 4.5 from 4,131, so that file is not counted twice. Weights are Amazon evidence 30, fit and weather 30, review faults 25 and price for the job 15. Prices are the figures stored on 19 October 2026. This is not a laboratory test. An ABUS 1-to-10 number is not treated as a BS EN 12320 grade or as Sold Secure.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk, then a deduction when few UK review texts sit behind it. Fifteen texts at 4.4 do not outrank 1,173 reviews at 4.6. The 4.5 from 4,131 on the two Titalium listings is one shared family file. It is not counted twice.

2

Fit and weather

30%

Whether the listing prints an ABUS security level, a shackle that can be measured, and a weather design such as a cap, drainage or a coating, rather than a bare outdoor word. A long open shackle is not scored as a closed-shackle insurance condition.

3

Review faults

25%

Deductions for water that still enters, a key that jams or snaps, stuck code wheels, a shackle that misses the staple, a rust return, or a security-level claim the box does not carry.

4

Price for the job

15%

Shelf price against a stated ABUS security level for a clear everyday job. About £6.75 without a printed level is not better value than about £6.99 with level 5 and a stated 7 mm shackle. That is why the 64TI/45 is the best value, and the cheaper 60/40 is not.

ABUS padlock buying guide

You already want an ABUS padlock. The decision is which body, which shackle and which weather design match the staple you have. Seven amazon.co.uk listings cover that range, from a 35 g brass body to a coated level 9 lock. None of them is a closed-shackle lock, and none was confirmed as Sold Secure approved.

What is an ABUS padlock?

An ABUS padlock, for this comparison, is a keyed or combination padlock with a shackle, sold under the ABUS brand on amazon.co.uk. The jobs in the listings are lockers, boxes, gates and shed doors. You are not shopping for padlocks in general. You are choosing a body size and a weather design inside one brand. Quality here is a match, not a single star line. You need the staple hole, the thickness the shackle must pass, and the clear height and width.

Best for

  • A locker, toolbox or shutter when 24 mm of clearance is enough
  • A rainy gate or shed if you accept that water can still enter from the top

Not ideal for

  • A policy that names a closed shackle, Sold Secure or a CEN grade these listings do not show
  • A wet gate if the only option you are holding is the 145/40 code lock

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Reading ABUS level 5 as CEN 5

ABUS’s scale runs from 1 to 10. BS EN 12320 grades security from 1 to 6. The T65AL/40 is ABUS level 5 and EN 12320 class 2 at the same time. Sold Secure Bronze to Diamond is CEN 3 to 6. None of these seven listings was confirmed as Sold Secure approved.

  2. 2

Buying the 60/40 for a large staple

The 60/40 is 35 g, and the listing prints no shackle diameter, no clear height and no ABUS level. One reviewer said an advert claimed level 5 and the box did not. The series dimensions for level 5 do not match this body. If you need a printed level at a low price, the 64TI/45 states level 5 and a 7 mm shackle.

  3. 3

Using the 145/40 outdoors, or assuming one key

The 145/40 is a locker code lock. Reviews include rust and a seized wheel after outdoor use, and a forgotten code cannot be recovered. These amazon units are not supplied keyed alike. A locksmith is the next step if a key has snapped, if the 145 code is forgotten, or if the policy names a grade these listings do not show.

What to weigh up

Fit of the shackle

High

Measure the staple hole, the thickness the shackle must pass, and the clear height and width before you compare prices. Take the shortest shackle that still fits. Spare bar is leverage, and a long open shackle is not a closed-shackle insurance condition. The short bodies here are the 64TI/45 at 24 mm clear height on a 7 mm shackle, the Aqua Safe at 24 mm by 20 mm on an 8 mm shackle, the T65AL/40 at 23 mm on a 6.5 mm shackle, and the 145/40 at 26 mm on a 6 mm shackle.

Security level and weather

High

Use an ABUS security level only when the sheet or the listing prints one. Here that is level 4 on the 145/40, level 5 on the 64TI/45 and the T65AL/40, level 6 on the 64TI/50HB80, and level 9 on the 83WP/63. The 70IB/45 sheet is recorded as level 5, and the amazon listing does not print it. The 60/40 does not get a confirmed level, because the series table’s level 5 dimensions belong to a larger body. ABUS’s 1-to-10 number is not a BS EN 12320 grade. The T65AL is level 5 and class 2 at once.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A locker or toolbox

You want a short shackle and a printed ABUS level for a dry locker, shutter or toolbox. The 64TI/45 is the best value at about £6.99, with level 5, a 7 mm hardened shackle and 24 mm of clear height. There is no weather cap, and the 4.5 from 4,131 is shared with the long-shackle listing.

A wet gate or shed

The lock will sit in rain on a gate, shed door or chain. The 70IB/45 Aqua Safe is the top pick at about £19, with a cap, drainage and 4.6 from 1,173 reviews. Water can still enter from the top, and this listing does not print an ABUS level. The 20 mm clear width has to fit the staple.

A deep staple or a chain

A 24 mm shackle will not reach. The 64TI/50HB80 gives 80 mm of clear height on an 8 mm shackle and prints ABUS level 6, at about £18.49. More of the bar is left exposed, and the listing states no cap. The 4.5 from 4,131 is the same family file as the 64TI/45.

Common questions about ABUS padlocks

Which ABUS padlock is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the ABUS 70IB/45 Aqua Safe, about £19 on amazon.co.uk. It has the highest score in this set: 4.6 from 1,173 reviews, a protective cap, drainage and an encapsulated brass body, with an 8 mm shackle and 24 mm of clear height. It suits a rainy gate, shed door or chain if the 20 mm clear width fits the staple. Water can still enter from the top, and this listing does not print an ABUS security level.
How much does an ABUS padlock cost?
The seven amazon.co.uk prices stored on 19 October 2026 run from about £6.75 to about £47.41. Entry is the 60/40 at about £6.75 and the 64TI/45 at about £6.99. Mid is about £13.91 to about £19: the T65AL/40, the 145/40, the long-shackle 64TI/50HB80 and the Aqua Safe. The 83WP/63 is about £47.41. A closed-shackle CEN 6 ABUS is a different product and is not in this set. The lowest price is not the best value, because the 60/40 has no printed ABUS level.
What should you check before you buy an ABUS padlock?
Measure the staple hole and the clear height, then take the shortest shackle that still fits. Spare bar is leverage. Use an ABUS security level only when the listing or the sheet prints one. That 1-to-10 number is not a BS EN 12320 grade and not Sold Secure. A coated shackle is not a sealed lock. The Aqua Safe adds a cap and drainage. The 145/40 does not. These units are not keyed alike.
Is an ABUS security level the same as a BS EN 12320 grade?
No. ABUS’s own scale runs from 1 to 10. BS EN 12320:2021 grades padlock security from 1 to 6. In the usual code, corrosion is grade 1 indoors or 3 outdoors, and the last digit is security. The T65AL/40 is ABUS level 5 and EN 12320 class 2 at the same time, which is why the same number does not mean the same grade. Sold Secure’s 2025 ladder maps Bronze to Diamond onto CEN 3 to 6. None of these seven listings was confirmed as Sold Secure approved.
Which ABUS padlock suits a wet gate or shed?
For rain, the top pick is the 70IB/45 Aqua Safe at about £19. The listing describes a cap, drainage and an encapsulated body, at 4.6 from 1,173 reviews. Water can still reach the mechanism from the top. If the risk justifies a thicker shackle, the 83WP/63 at about £47.41 prints ABUS level 9 and an 11.5 mm shackle. It is 4.1 from 85 reviews, and it misses a small staple. Skip the 145/40 outdoors.
Are these ABUS padlocks supplied keyed alike?
No. These amazon.co.uk units are not supplied keyed alike. The 64TI/45 highlight says two keys. Aqua Safe reviews say two keys. The T65AL/40, the long-shackle 64TI and the 60/40 do not state a key count. The 145/40 has no key. It is a resettable four-digit code, and a forgotten code cannot be recovered. The factory code on the ABUS 145 sheet is 0000. If you need several locks on one key, that is a different order. See the padlocks keyed alike comparison.
Can the ABUS 145/40 live on an outdoor gate?
The 145/40 is a poor outdoor lock. The listing does not call it weatherproof, and the recommended use is a bag. It is ABUS level 4, with a 6 mm shackle and 26 mm of clear height, at about £15.92 and 4.2 from 472 reviews. Gym-locker buyers use it dry. Reviews include stuck dials, numbers off the line, rust and a seized wheel after outdoor use. A forgotten code cannot be recovered. Use it on a gym or school locker if you can keep the code.

Our verdict

The top pick is the ABUS 70IB/45 Aqua Safe at about £19. It has the highest score: 4.6 from 1,173 reviews, a protective cap and drainage, for outdoor gates and sheds. Water from the top is already in that score, and the listing does not print an ABUS level. The best value is the ABUS 64TI/45 at about £6.99, with level 5 and a 7 mm shackle for lockers and toolboxes. The shared 4.5 from 4,131 and the missing cap keep it under the Aqua Safe. The 60/40 at about £6.75 is cheaper and is not the best value, because no ABUS level is printed. The 83WP/63 at about £47.41 is the level 9 body when the staple hole takes an 11.5 mm shackle.
