Security door handle comparison 2026

The best security door handles, compared.

Top pick: Yale adjustable chrome PVCu handle Best value: Yale adjustable chrome PVCu handle – Same price, about £30.43, with 4.4 from 265 reviews and adjustable holes. Standard security, size and thickness limits keep it off the top score. Updated October 2026.

A security door handle is the lever pair on a backplate for an external door, usually uPVC or composite. It covers the euro cylinder and bolts through from the inside. You are usually replacing a drooping or peeling handle, or adding a guard after a locksmith mentions lock snapping. The fit is the first test: PZ, screw centres and door thickness. High security on a title is not a printed star. Measure PZ, screws and thickness with the [security door handle buying guide](/hub/door-and-window-security/security-door-handle/sub/security-door-handle-buying-guide). PZ is the distance from the spindle centre to the keyhole centre. It is often 92 mm on modern uPVC, and it must match the lock.

Yale adjustable chrome PVCu handle

Rank 1

Yale adjustable chrome PVCu handle

∼£30

Our view

Across 265 amazon.co.uk reviews, the Yale P-PVC-RH-PC is the chrome set Yale labels standard security, at the same price of about £30.43, with a 92 mm centre and adjustable fixing points. The repeated praise is that the screws slide to old hole centres, including one door at 204 mm, and that a Pozidriv fit takes about 10 to 20 minutes once the Yale video is watched. Buyers use it to retire gold or white plastic handles on front, back and patio uPVC doors. It is not universal. An old Wickes pattern did not fit, one door over 70 mm was rejected, and more than one person found the backplate too big and sent it back. The lock hole is called large, and a new handle can leave the old cylinder looking wrong. The listing says plastic, stainless steel and PVC in different fields, and indoor/outdoor says indoor while the title says PVCu doors. No TS007 star is printed.

Pros

  • Adjustable screw points on a 92 mm uPVC handle
  • 4.4 from 265 reviews, the largest sample here
  • Same price as the MK3, about £30.43
  • Cylinder guard named in the title

Cons

  • Standard security, not a printed TS007 2-star handle
  • Backplate too large for some doors
  • One review says doors thicker than 70 mm do not fit
  • Material fields disagree

Best for: Swapping a worn 92 mm uPVC handle when the old screw pitch is awkward and a fixed 215 mm set would miss the holes.

Less suitable: A door over 70 mm, a non-92 mm lock, or a buyer who needs a Kitemarked 2-star handle rather than standard-security wording.

Common questions

Are the screw holes fixed?

The title and bullets say adjustable fixing points for the majority of multipoint locks. Reviews describe sliding fixings, including one fit at 204 mm. One old Wickes pattern still did not fit.

What is the handle made of?

The handle-material field says plastic, the metal field says stainless steel, and the material field says PVC. Reviews describe a heavy chrome set. The listing does not reconcile those lines.

Does it include the lock?

Lock type says key lock. The included-components line names the handle and a fixing pack, not a euro cylinder or a multipoint lock.

Yale MK3 chrome security handle

Rank 2

Yale MK3 chrome security handle

∼£30

Our view

Across 111 amazon.co.uk reviews, the Yale P-YSHMK3LL-PC is the chrome MK3 set at about £30.43, with a 92 mm centre, 215 mm fixing holes and a cylinder guard. Reviewers who already had that hole pattern describe a heavy chrome swap in about 10 minutes, and several say the covered barrel feels more secure than the handle it replaced. The guard is also the main complaint. One fitter says the lock cannot protrude even by 5 mm, another ground the lock opening, and a third called the guard more trouble than a snap-resistant cylinder. Screws that do not pull the halves together, squeaky new springs and metal shavings show up more than once. One handle snapped after a few weeks, and one return never produced a refund. The listing claims high security and more than 200,000 cycles. It does not print a TS007 star or a Kitemark number.

Pros

  • Cylinder guard on a 92 mm and 215 mm uPVC pattern
  • 4.4 from 111 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Spring cassettes, screws and spindle named in the bullets
  • Listed as left- or right-handed

Cons

  • A proud cylinder clashes with the guard
  • Screws, squeaky springs and metal shavings in reviews
  • No TS007 star printed, despite high-security wording
  • One lever snapped after a few weeks

Best for: Replacing a uPVC handle when the holes are already 92 mm and 215 mm and the cylinder sits almost flush.

Less suitable: A door whose cylinder sticks out, a non-92 mm lock, or anyone who needs a printed TS007 2-star mark on the listing.

Common questions

Does this set include a lock cylinder?

The included-components line names the chrome MK3 handle and a fixing pack. The bullets add spring cassettes, fixing screws and a spindle. A cylinder and a multipoint lock are not named.

Will it fit a wooden door?

The bullets say PVCu doors. One UK review fitted a solid metal garden door. The listing does not say the set is for timber.

Is a TS007 star rating printed?

The listing says high security and a cylinder guard, plus cycle and weather figures. It does not print a TS007 star, a Kitemark number or PAS 24.

UAP Signature silver 219 mm handle

Rank 3

UAP Signature silver 219 mm handle

∼£26

Our view

The UAP Signature silver anodised handle is listed at about £25.99 with a 219 mm backplate, a 92 mm PZ in the title and 122 mm screw centres in the title. Only three amazon.co.uk reviews sit behind a 3.2 score. Two of them describe a heavy, smooth external handle and name the anti-drill and anti-snap lines as the reason for buying. The third says there is no adjustment for the euro cylinder, unlike other 2-star handles, and a shorter lock had to be bought. One of the positive reviews describes a gold finish, which does not match the silver anodised colour field. The bullets also mix 219 mm with 243 mm and 122 mm screw centres with 210 mm. The box contents are not itemised, and the listing prints no TS007 star, Kitemark or fire rating. At this review count the lower price is not evidence that it outperforms the Yale sets.

Pros

  • Lowest price in the set, about £25.99
  • Title names uPVC, composite and timber
  • Anti-drill, cylinder guard and anti-snap on the bullets
  • Country of origin on the listing is the United Kingdom

Cons

  • 3.2 from only 3 reviews
  • Title and bullets disagree on length and screw centres
  • No cylinder-length adjustment, on one review
  • Box contents not itemised, and no star printed

Best for: An external door that already matches a 219 mm backplate, 92 mm PZ and 122 mm screws, if you can check the holes in person.

Less suitable: A 210–215 mm uPVC pattern, a long cylinder, or a buyer who wants a large UK review sample.

Common questions

Which screw centres does this use?

The title says 122 mm screw centres and 92 mm PZ. One bullet says 210 mm screw centres, and another sentence mixes a 243 mm handle with a 219 mm backplate. Measure the door before you treat either figure as the fit.

Is a cylinder in the box?

Lock type says key lock. The listing does not name a cylinder, a spindle or a screw pack as included components.

Is it certified TS007 2 star?

The bullets say anti-drill, a cylinder guard and anti-snap. They do not print a TS007 star or a Kitemark number. One review compares it with other 2-star handles, which is not a certificate for this ASIN.

How we compared

Scores use the three amazon.co.uk listings on this page and the UK review notes already captured for them. There was no lab test. Stars and review counts are the UK figures on those listings. A high star rating with only a few reviews is marked down. The highest score is the top pick. The best price against a high score, for a clear job, is the best value. A TS007 2-star claim is not awarded unless that listing, or the manufacturer page for that exact model, prints it. The Yale Platinum handle is a different product from the MK3 in this set. Saved prices are the GBP figures used for the scores. A later view of the MK3 showed a higher shelf price, and the scores were not rebuilt on that figure.

Security door handle buying guide

Match the handle to the holes, then read whether a TS007 star is actually printed. A high-security sentence does not make a 2-star handle, and a cylinder guard does not replace a 3-star cylinder. The three listings here are the Yale MK3, the Yale adjustable chrome set and the UAP Signature. Prices in this comparison run from about £25.99 to about £30.43. None of them includes a euro cylinder, and none prints a TS007 star.

What is a security door handle?

A security door handle in the UK is the lever pair on a backplate for an external door, usually uPVC or composite. The security job is to cover the euro cylinder and to be bolted through from the inside. Shoppers replace drooping or peeling handles, or they add a guard after a locksmith mentions lock snapping. Quality is a measured fit first. PZ is the distance from the spindle centre to the keyhole centre. It is often 92 mm on modern uPVC, and it must match the lock.

Best for

  • A uPVC door already drilled to 92 mm and 215 mm
  • A 92 mm door whose old screw holes are not a fixed pitch
  • A short backplate you can measure before you order

Not ideal for

  • Anyone who needs a printed TS007 2-star handle on the listing
  • A door whose cylinder sticks out past the guard

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying on colour

Chrome, silver and the old gold or white plastic are finishes. They do not tell you the PZ or the screw centres. One UAP review describes a gold finish while the colour field says silver anodised. Match the holes first.

  2. 2

Reading high security as a 2-star mark

The MK3 says high security. The adjustable Yale says standard security. The UAP bullets say anti-drill and anti-snap. None of those lines is a printed TS007 star or a Kitemark number. The Platinum handle that does state 2 star is a different Yale product.

  3. 3

Fitting a guard over a proud cylinder

The Master Locksmiths Association says the outside cylinder should not protrude more than 3 mm beyond the door face or the furniture. On the MK3, reviewers found the guard clashes with a lock that sticks out, including one fitter who said even 5 mm was too much.

What to weigh up

PZ, screw centres and thickness

High

PZ is the spindle centre to the keyhole centre. On modern uPVC it is often 92 mm, and it has to match the lock already in the door. All three listings here put 92 mm on the title. Screw centres are a different measurement. The Yale MK3 states 215 mm. The Yale adjustable set slides the screws, and one review cites a fit at 204 mm. The UAP title says 122 mm, while a bullet also says 210 mm, and the backplate is given as both 219 mm and 243 mm.

Security wording and a printed TS007 star

High

DHF TS 007 reaches three stars with a Kitemarked 3-star cylinder, or a Kitemarked 1-star cylinder plus Kitemarked 2-star furniture. Stars are not added past that. You need the 2-star handle only to complete a 1-star cylinder. If the cylinder is already a genuine 3-star, the handle does not have to carry a star for that total. None of the three listings prints a TS007 star or a Kitemark number. The MK3 says high security and names a cylinder guard.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Replacing a 92 mm and 215 mm handle

You have a uPVC door already drilled to 92 mm PZ and 215 mm fixing centres, and you want the chrome replaced with a cylinder guard. The Yale MK3 is the top pick at about £30.43, with 4.4 from 111 reviews. The cylinder needs to sit almost flush. The listing does not print a TS007 star.

Old screw holes that are not a fixed pitch

The lock is still 92 mm, but the old screws are not on a 215 mm line. The Yale adjustable chrome set is the best value at about £30.43, with 4.4 from 265 reviews, and the fixings slide. Yale calls it standard security. One review rejected a door over 70 mm, and some backplates were too big.

A short backplate you can measure

The door is uPVC, composite or timber and the holes already match a short backplate, 92 mm PZ and 122 mm screws. The UAP Signature is about £25.99. Only 3 reviews sit behind a 3.2 score, and the bullets also mention 243 mm and 210 mm. Check the door before you treat the title as the fit. No TS007 star is printed.

Common questions about security door handles

Which security door handle is the top pick in 2026?
The Yale MK3 chrome set is the top pick. It has the highest score of these three amazon.co.uk listings, 84, at about £30.43, with 4.4 from 111 reviews. The listing states a 92 mm centre, 215 mm fixing holes and a cylinder guard, and the bullets name spring cassettes, screws and a spindle. It does not print a TS007 star. Cylinder projection, screws and one snapped lever are already in that score. Choose it when the door already uses that hole pattern and the cylinder sits almost flush.
How much does a security door handle cost?
The three prices in this comparison are about £25.99 for the UAP Signature and about £30.43 for both Yale sets. A public view of the MK3 on 19 October 2026 showed £39.99 new, so the shelf price moves. Yale’s own shop listed the MK3 chrome at £31.99 in a promotion from £40. The TS007 2-star Platinum, a different handle, was £52 from £64.99. The adjustable Yale is the best value at the same comparison price as the MK3. The cheaper UAP set has only three reviews.
What should you measure before you buy a security door handle?
Measure PZ first, the spindle centre to the keyhole centre. On modern uPVC it is often 92 mm, and all three titles here use 92 mm. Screw centres are separate. The MK3 states 215 mm, the adjustable Yale slides, and the UAP title says 122 mm while a bullet also says 210 mm. Home Secure Shop’s recent sales were roughly four in ten at 122 mm and one in three at 210–215 mm. That is that shop’s mix, not a census. Then check door thickness against the screw pack.
Is a high-security handle a TS007 2-star handle?
No. DHF TS 007 reaches three stars with a Kitemarked 3-star cylinder, or a Kitemarked 1-star cylinder plus Kitemarked 2-star furniture. Stars do not add past that. None of these three listings prints a TS007 star or a Kitemark number. The MK3 says high security. The adjustable Yale says standard security. The UAP bullets say anti-drill and anti-snap. Yale’s Platinum chrome handle states 2 star and KM 532920, and it is a different product. You need a 2-star handle only to finish a 1-star cylinder.
Do these sets include a euro cylinder?
No. The MK3 names the handle and a fixing pack, and the bullets add spring cassettes, screws and a spindle. The adjustable Yale names the handle and a fixing pack. The UAP listing does not itemise a cylinder, a spindle or a screw pack. A field that says key lock is not a euro cylinder in the box. These sets do not fit every uPVC door. If the cylinder is the part you are changing, that is a separate product from the handle.
Should the outside be a lever or a pad?
Use lever-lever if you lift the handle to throw the multipoint lock. Use lever-pad if the outside is a fixed pull and you enter with the key. The three sets here are lever handles for an external door, not a pad set. The MK3 and the adjustable Yale are both listed as left- or right-handed. The UAP listing does not state handing. Match the lever to the way you already lock the door, then match the holes.
When should a locksmith fit the security door handle?
Fit it yourself only with the door open, the outside plate the right way round, and the cylinder almost flush with the guard. The order of work is in the guide to fitting a security door handle. Call a locksmith if the hooks do not move, the cylinder is already snapped, the door is a certified set whose maker forbids the swap, or this is the only exit and you cannot measure the holes.

Our verdict

The Yale MK3 is the top pick. It has the highest score of these three amazon.co.uk listings, 84, at about £30.43, with 4.4 from 111 reviews, a cylinder guard, and stated 92 mm and 215 mm centres. Cylinder projection, screws and one snapped lever are already deducted, and the listing does not print a TS007 star. The Yale adjustable chrome set is the best value at the same price, about £30.43, with 4.4 from 265 reviews and screws that slide. Standard security, backplate size and a door over 70 mm keep it off the top. The UAP Signature at about £25.99 scores 58. Three reviews, and measurements that disagree inside the listing, are why the lower price is not the best-value award.
