A green cross line laser throws one horizontal line and one vertical line that meet as a cross. In the UK you use it for pictures, shelves, kitchen fitting and tiling, instead of holding a spirit level against the wall. The green colour makes the line easier to see indoors. It does not make the tool more accurate, and it does not make the line visible across a sunlit garden. You recognise a suitable tool by a stated accuracy that includes a distance, a pendulum you can lock, a Class 2 label with a power, and a mount that does not creep. The usual self-levelling window is about ±3° or ±4°. Outside that window the beam flashes. Manual mode locks the pendulum for a slope and is not a level line. Lock the pendulum before you carry the tool. The usual head thread is 1/4 in-20. IP54 means splashes, not immersion. How to read those checks is in the [green cross line laser buying guide](/hub/measuring-equipment/green-cross-line-laser/sub/green-cross-line-laser-buying-guide).

The best green cross line lasers in detail

DeWalt DW088CG-XJ

Rank 1

DeWalt DW088CG-XJ

∼£126

Our view

The DeWalt DW088CG-XJ is listed at £125.94 on amazon.co.uk, with 4.7 from 2,387 ratings. The listing states ±3 mm at 10 m and also 0.3 mm/m, IP54, a magnetic pivot with a 1/4 in thread, and 3× AA with a 16-hour claim. The title includes a carry case. Detector DE0892G is named for up to 50 m and is not in the box. UK reviews use it for tiling and fitting and say the line is hard to see in daylight. One return mentioned a missing pendulum lock, which is not a repeated fault in the sampled text. The degree window is not on the bullets. This is the top pick in this set because the rating, a stated accuracy with a distance, the case and the magnetic base are all on the listing.

Pros

  • 4.7 from 2,387 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • Accuracy stated as ±3 mm at 10 m
  • IP54 and a built-in magnetic pivot
  • Carry case and 3× AA on the listing

Cons

  • About £125.94, the highest price in this set

Best for: You want a stated millimetre rate, a magnetic base and a case, and you already own a tripod.

Less suitable: You need a line you can see across a sunlit site, or you want a stand in the box.

∼£56

Our view

The Huepar kit is listed at £55.99, with 4.5 from 8,119 amazon.co.uk ratings. The captured listing notes that the count may include a parent listing, so it is not treated as 8,119 reviews of this kit alone. The listing states a 4° window, Class II under 1 mW to IEC/EN 60825-1/2014, IP54, a built-in 1400 mAh pack with USB-C, and a 35–100 cm tripod. The title says 30 m and a bullet says the tool is not for outdoor use. Accuracy is printed as ±1/9 inch at 33 feet. UK reviews praise indoor tiling and fitting and call the included tripod flimsy. A magnet is not stated on the bullets.

Pros

Enventor EN011G

Rank 3

The listing states ±3 mm at 10 m, a 4°±1° window, Class II, IP54 and up to 25 m, and it says outdoor use is not recommended. The box lists a magnetic L bracket, a flannel bag and 2× AA, and it does not list a tripod. UK reviews treat the flash as a warning and treat the missing tripod as a contents expectation. This is the best value in this set because a stated millimetre figure, a class and a magnetic mount are printed at an entry price.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 1,642 amazon.co.uk ratings
  • Accuracy stated as ±3 mm at 10 m
  • Class II, IP54 and a magnetic bracket
  • About £24.99 with 2× AA and a bag

It does not state a range or a millimetre accuracy. The tripod and the magnetic bracket are not included. ∼£20

Our view

The LUODIRGB DLMN001 is listed at £19.99, with 4.4 from 5 amazon.co.uk ratings. The captured file has three UK review blocks, which is too few for a pattern. This is not a laboratory test and not a calibration. The 0–100 figure on each card is the amazon.co.uk star rating times 20: 4.2 is 84, 4.3 is 86, 4.4 is 88, 4.5 is 90 and 4.7 is 94. The four weights below are how those scores, the listing limits and the two awards are read. They sum to 100 and they do not add a second score on top of the star map. The top pick is the highest stored score among listings that also print a millimetre rate with a distance. The best value is the entry listing that still prints that rate, a class and a magnetic mount.

Amazon evidence

40%

The stored score is the star line times 20. DeWalt is 4.7 from 2,387, so 94. Huepar is 4.5 from 8,119, so 90, and that count may be a parent total. Enventor is 4.4 from 1,642. CIGMAN is 4.4 from 991. The Nikotek without a stand is 4.4 from 1,551. LUODIRGB is 4.4 from 5, which is too few for a pattern. The Nikotek kit is 4.3 from 5,312, and that count may be a parent total. Both RockSeed rows are 4.3 from 6,001 and share one UK review text, so that is one sample. Bosch is 4.2 from 579. ASOBRIS is 4.2 from 665.

2

Accuracy and range

30%

A millimetre figure counts only with a distance. DeWalt states ±3 mm at 10 m, also 0.3 mm/m. Enventor states ±3 mm at 10 m. Bosch states ±0.6 mm/m and up to 12 m. CIGMAN states ±0.3 mm at 1 m. Huepar states ±1/9 inch at 33 feet. Both RockSeed rows state ±2.5 mm with no distance. The Nikotek rows and ASOBRIS state no millimetre figure. A rate compounds: 0.3 mm/m is about 3 mm at 10 m. Naked-eye range is not one number on the DeWalt row.

3

Class, mount and box

15%

Prefer a stated Class 2 or Class II and a power. Enventor, Huepar, both Nikotek rows and ASOBRIS print Class II or Class 2 under 1 mW. DeWalt, Bosch, CIGMAN and both RockSeed rows do not. The usual thread is 1/4 in-20. Enventor and DeWalt print a magnetic mount. No detector is in these boxes. IP54 is splashes, not immersion. CIGMAN’s power lines disagree, and the RockSeed LV1GT title and package bullet disagree on the tripod.

4

Value

15%

About £24.99 buys Enventor with ±3 mm at 10 m, Class II, IP54 and a magnetic bracket, and outdoor use is not recommended. About £125.94 is the highest shelf price and is the top pick because the rating, a distance-based accuracy, the case and the magnetic pivot are on the listing. About £18.69 is the lowest shelf price and is not the best value, because range and accuracy are not stated. Shared RockSeed reviews are not two samples.

Green cross line laser buying guide

Start with accuracy and a distance, then the self-levelling window and the lock, then power and the box, then class and the mount. The notes below follow that order for these eleven listings. None of the scores is a laboratory test.

What is a green cross line laser?

A green cross line laser throws one horizontal line and one vertical line that meet as a cross. UK buyers use it for pictures, shelves, kitchen fitting and tiling, instead of holding a spirit level against the wall. The green colour makes the line easier to see indoors. It does not make the tool more accurate, and it does not make the line visible across a sunlit garden. A cross-line tool is one horizontal fan plus one vertical fan. Some listings cannot switch a single line off.

Best for

  • Pictures, shelves and indoor tiling when the listing states a millimetre rate with a distance
  • An entry price when Class II, IP54 and a magnetic bracket are printed, and the job stays indoors
  • A rechargeable head with a stand in the box, if you can accept a short or light tripod

Not ideal for

  • A sunlit garden or a long site without a green receiver in the box
  • Anyone who reads a green beam, or a millimetre figure with no distance, as higher accuracy
  • Structural set-out, drainage, grade or machine control

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Treating a flash as a fault

Outside about ±3° or ±4° the beam flashes because the pendulum is past its window. Level the base. A locked pendulum is a slope, not a level line.

  2. 2

    Reading IP54 as waterproof

IP54 on these listings is debris and splashes. It is not a claim that the tool can be immersed, and it is not outdoor range.

  3. 3

Ranking a millimetre figure with no distance

RockSeed prints ±2.5 mm and does not print a distance. That is not the same as ±3 mm at 10 m or 0.3 mm/m. A rate compounds with the run.

What to weigh up

Accuracy with a distance

High

Read the millimetre figure only when a distance sits beside it. A rate compounds: 0.3 mm/m is about 3 mm at 10 m. In this set DeWalt states ±3 mm at 10 m and also 0.3 mm/m. Enventor states ±3 mm at 10 m. Bosch states ±0.6 mm/m and up to 12 m, the shortest range here. CIGMAN states ±0.3 mm at 1 m. Huepar states ±1/9 inch at 33 feet. Both RockSeed rows state ±2.5 mm with no distance, and the same bullet also says a bright red cross on a green title.

Class, mount and what is outdoors

Medium

Class 2, or Class II on the older name, is visible light from 400–700 nm. Short accidental exposure is covered by blinking. Staring is not safe. UKHSA says some units labelled under 1 mW measure much higher. Prefer a stated class and a power. The head thread here is 1/4 in-20. Enventor includes a magnetic L bracket. DeWalt has a magnetic pivot and names detector DE0892G, which is not in the box. No detector is in any of these boxes. Included stands are often short or light in UK reviews.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Pictures and shelves

You want an indoor cross for pictures and shelves and you already have a 1/4 in tripod. The Nikotek without a stand is about £18.69, with 4.4 from 1,551 ratings, Class II under 1 mW, IP54 and a bag. Range and accuracy are not stated, and the magnetic bracket is not included.

Indoor tiling and fitting

You want a stated millimetre rate and a line you can see with the lights on. The DeWalt DW088CG-XJ is about £125.94, with 4.7 from 2,387 ratings, ±3 mm at 10 m, IP54 and a magnetic pivot. UK reviews use it for tiling and say the line is hard to see in daylight. The detector is not in the box.

A sunlit or long site

You need pulse mode and a green receiver from the start. None of these boxes includes a detector. The DeWalt listing names DE0892G for up to 50 m and does not include it. UK reviews on several rows say the line fails in daylight. A cross-line tool is the wrong shape for that job.

Common questions about green cross line lasers

Which green cross line laser is the top pick in this set?
The top pick is the DeWalt DW088CG-XJ at about £125.94. The amazon.co.uk line is 4.7 from 2,387 ratings. The listing states ±3 mm at 10 m, also written as 0.3 mm/m, plus IP54, a magnetic pivot, a 1/4 in thread, 3× AA and a carry case. Detector DE0892G is named for up to 50 m and is not in the box. UK reviews say the line is hard to see in daylight. The stored score is 4.7 times 20, not a lab measurement.
Which green cross line laser is the best value?
The best value is the Enventor EN011G at about £24.99, with 4.4 from 1,642 amazon.co.uk ratings. The listing states ±3 mm at 10 m, a 4°±1° window, Class II, IP54 and up to 25 m, and it says outdoor use is not recommended. The box lists a magnetic L bracket, a flannel bag and 2× AA. A tripod is not included. It is the entry listing that still prints a millimetre rate, a class and a magnetic mount.
How much does a green cross line laser cost on amazon.co.uk in this comparison?
These eleven captured shelves run from about £18.69 to £125.94. That range is this set, not a market average. Entry lines sit about £18.69 to £29.99. Mid lines sit about £35.99 to £65.60, including the Huepar kit at about £55.99 and the Bosch Quigo Green at about £65.60. The DeWalt DW088CG-XJ is about £125.94, the highest figure here. Figures are the captured listing prices, not a later live check.
What should you check before you buy a green cross line laser?
Read the accuracy with a distance first. A rate compounds: 0.3 mm/m is about 3 mm at 10 m. A figure with no distance is not the same. Then read the self-levelling window, about ±3° or ±4°. Outside it the beam flashes. A locked pendulum is a slope, not level. Then check power, the 1/4 in thread, Class 2 or Class II, and whether a detector is in the box. Unlock, mark and lock are in how to use a green cross line laser.
Does a green beam mean the laser is more accurate?
No. The green colour makes the line easier to see indoors. It does not make the tool more accurate than a red beam, and it does not make the line visible across a sunlit garden. Green diodes use more current than red, so runtime is the trade for visibility. Judge accuracy only from a stated millimetre figure that includes a distance. A Class 2 label is a safety class, not an accuracy class.
What does a flashing beam on a green cross line laser mean?
On these listings the beam flashes when the base is outside the self-levelling window, about ±3° or ±4°. That is a warning, not a dead diode. Level the base, or move to a flatter surface, and the flash should stop. Locking the pendulum holds the cross for a slope. That locked line is not level. Lock the pendulum before you carry the tool so the mechanism is not swinging in the case.
Is a Class 2 green cross line laser safe to stare at, and does IP54 mean waterproof?
No. BS EN 60825-1 Class 2 is visible light from 400–700 nm. Short accidental exposure is covered by blinking. Staring is not safe, and dazzle still matters on a ladder. UKHSA says Class 1 or Class 2 consumer products are unlikely to injure the eye or skin, and that some units labelled under 1 mW measure much higher. Class II on a listing is the older name for Class 2. IP54 is splashes, not immersion. Enhancement glasses are not protective eyewear.
When should you leave this green cross line laser table?
Leave it for structural or drainage set-out, for grade or machine control, or when you employ people and the Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations 2010 apply. A check that fails after a drop needs a qualified agent. A sunlit site needs pulse mode and a green receiver from the start. That job is a rotary laser, not a cross-line tool in this table. Child-appealing products must stay at Class 1 under BS EN 50689:2021.

Our verdict

In this set of eleven amazon.co.uk listings, the top pick is the DeWalt DW088CG-XJ at about £125.94, with 4.7 from 2,387 ratings, ±3 mm at 10 m, IP54, a magnetic pivot and a carry case. Detector DE0892G is not in the box, and UK reviews say the line is hard to see in daylight. The best value is the Enventor EN011G at about £24.99, with 4.4 from 1,642 ratings, ±3 mm at 10 m, Class II, IP54 and a magnetic bracket. Outdoor use is not recommended, and a tripod is not included. The lowest shelf price, the Nikotek at about £18.69, is not that pick, because range and accuracy are not stated. None of these scores is a lab test, and a green beam is not higher accuracy.
