Melting pot comparison 2026

The best melting pots, compared.

Top pick: Yaskyly 1.5 L electric wax melter Best value: Marsheepy 600 ml double boiler – About £9.98 with 4.6 from 4,786 reviews for a 600 ml hob jug. No element, so it will not melt solder or pewter. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A melting pot on amazon.co.uk is one of three tools, and they are not substitutes. An electric solder or pewter pot runs to about 450 °C at about 250 W and is ladled, not tipped like a jug. An electric wax or soap melter stays far cooler, often a keep-warm near 70–80 °C or a ceiling around 100–120 °C, and pours from a spout or a tap. You sit it in a saucepan of water. It has no element, so it will not melt pewter. None of these pots can melt gold, silver, copper or aluminium. The split between a 450 °C pot, a wax pot and a hob jug is set out in the [melting pot buying guide](/hub/workshop/melting-pot/sub/melting-pot-buying-guide).

The best melting pots in detail

Yaskyly 1.5 L electric wax melter

Rank 1

Yaskyly 1.5 L electric wax melter

∼£28

Our view

The Yaskyly listing is a 1.5 litre electric pot at £27.99, with a seller range of 50–100 °C and a line of up to 900 g of wax. The bullets say soy scorches above about 85 °C and that a separate thermometer is included so you can aim for 75–80 °C. Amazon shows 5.0 from 2 reviews, and no review text is stored, so the thermometer, the spout and the element are untested in the notes we have. A UK plug and a wattage are not in the technical lines. The included-components field says sticker only, while the bullets list wicks, centring devices, a spoon and a thermometer. Two ratings are not a sample you can judge a heater by. Treat the degree span as a seller claim until you measure it yourself.

Pros

  • Stated span of 50–100 °C and a 1.5 litre pot, up to 900 g of wax
  • Bullets include a separate thermometer
  • £27.99, in the same band as other 1.5 litre kits

Cons

  • 5.0 from only 2 reviews, with no review text stored
  • Plug and wattage are not stated
  • Box contents disagree between the bullets and the included-components line

Best for: A buyer who will check the thermometer on day one and can return the pot if the element is wrong.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs other owners' written experience before the first melt.

Common questions

How does the seller say you should check the temperature?

The bullets say soy scorches above about 85 °C and that a separate thermometer is included so you can aim for 75–80 °C. The stated span is 50–100 °C.

Is a UK plug stated?

No. The technical lines do not mention a plug or a voltage.

Are there written reviews stored?

The listing shows 5.0 from 2 reviews. No review text is stored, so praise and complaints are not available.

Plumaire 400 ml candle making set

Rank 2

Plumaire 400 ml candle making set

Our view

The Plumaire set is a 400 ml stainless pot at £7.99 with 60 wicks, wooden brackets, stickers and two metal brackets. It averages 4.7 from 4 amazon.co.uk reviews, and three short texts are stored. One describes the pot in a deep saucepan of water, used to turn leftover wax into a candle, and calls the job easy for a beginner. No defect is described in those three texts. No wattage or plug is listed, so this is a hob jug with a wick kit, not an electric melter. The bullets name paraffin, soy, palm wax, beeswax and gel. Four reviews cannot tell you whether the claimed nozzles on both sides pour cleanly. At 400 ml it is the smallest jug here, so even a large candle in one review starts from a small melt.

Pros

  • £7.99 with 60 wicks, brackets and stickers
  • 400 ml pot, with 304 stainless steel claimed
  • Used in a saucepan of water in a review
  • 4.7 from 4 reviews, and no defect in the three texts

Cons

  • Only 4 reviews
  • 400 ml is the smallest capacity in this set
  • No element and no thermometer
  • The dual nozzles are claimed, not described in the reviews

Best for: A first leftover-wax candle when you want the wicks in the same box.

Less suitable: Regular pouring, a big batch, or any metal casting.

Common questions

Is this set an electric melter?

No wattage or plug is listed. A reviewer put the small pot in a deep saucepan of water.

What capacity is in the title?

400 ml. The pot is described as 304 stainless steel with a heat-resistant handle and nozzles on both sides.

Which waxes do the bullets name?

The wick bullet names paraffin, soy, palm wax and beeswax. The kit bullet also names gel and paraffin candles.

Marsheepy 600 ml double boiler

Rank 3

Marsheepy 600 ml double boiler

∼£10

Our view

The Marsheepy pot is a 600 ml stainless jug at £9.98, listed at 210 g, with no wattage, voltage or plug. It averages 4.6 from 4,786 amazon.co.uk reviews, which is the largest sample in this set by a long way. Buyers sit it in a saucepan for beeswax balm, leftover tealight wax, chocolate and skincare butters, and several say it holds heat long enough for a short pour. The listing says dishwasher safe and not oven safe. The limits that come up are the 600 ml size, wax that sticks, and drips. A handle weld failed in use, and one unit arrived with the larger handle already off. One buyer returned it because gel wax would not melt as they needed. It is best value when you already heat a pan and the batch fits in 600 ml.

Pros

  • £9.98 and 4.6 from 4,786 reviews
  • 600 ml stainless jug at 210 g, used over a saucepan
  • Reviewed for wax, balm, butter and chocolate
  • Dishwasher safe on the listing

Cons

  • No element, so it will not melt pewter or solder
  • 600 ml is small for a long candle session
  • Handle came off in use, and one arrived detached
  • Wax sticks, and gel wax failed for one buyer

Best for: Small wax, soap and food melts on a hob you already own.

Less suitable: Solder, pewter, or a batch much over 600 ml.

Common questions

Is this Marsheepy pot electric?

The listing does not state a wattage, voltage or plug. It is described as a double boiler. Reviews use it over a saucepan.

What size is listed?

600 ml or 20 oz. The capacity field also says 595 g. Item weight is 210 g and the size is 15.5 x 15.5 x 7.1 cm.

Is it listed as dishwasher safe?

Yes. Oven safe is listed as no. With lid is no, while a lid-material line still says stainless steel.

Ksedcon 1.5 L electric wax melter

Rank 4

Ksedcon 1.5 L electric wax melter

∼£24

Our view

The Ksedcon 1.5 litre pot states 220 V and 300–600 W, and the box lists a glass lid, a thermometer, a spoon and a wick kit. It is £23.99 and averages 4.6 from 274 amazon.co.uk reviews. Buyers call it an easy first set, and one says 500 g of soy melted in two to three minutes on high, which also means the heat is easy to overshoot. Instructions are called muddled, including the cleaning steps. A numeric temperature range is not printed, and a UK plug is not in the stored lines. One review says a metal holder got hot enough that something on the table caught fire, and that a glass holder failed in the same session. That is one report, not a rate, and it is a reason to stay with the pot on a clear, non-flammable surface.

Pros

  • 220 V and 300–600 W stated on the listing
  • 4.6 from 274 reviews
  • Thermometer, glass lid and wick kit listed
  • Fast soy melt in at least one report

Cons

  • One review describes a table fire from a hot metal holder
  • No printed degree span
  • UK plug not stated in the stored lines
  • Instructions called muddled, and high heat is easy to overshoot

Best for: A first electric candle kit if you already watch the thermometer and keep the bench clear.

Less suitable: Unattended melting, or a small-business tank.

Common questions

What power does the Ksedcon listing state?

The bullets say 220 V and 300–600 W. A numeric thermostat range is not printed.

What comes in the kit?

The included-components line lists the melter, 100 wicks, 100 stickers, 10 centring devices, a spoon, a glass lid and a thermometer.

Does a review mention fire?

Yes. One reviewer says a metal holder got hot enough that something on the table caught fire, and that a glass holder failed.

Bolosa 600 ml wax melting pot

Rank 5

Bolosa 600 ml wax melting pot

∼£10

Our view

The Bolosa POT400M is a 600 ml stainless jug at £9.99 with a V-shaped spout and a silicone spatula in the box. It averages 4.5 from 23 amazon.co.uk reviews, and seven texts are stored. Buyers say it heats quickly on a pan, wipes clean, and fits inside a small cooking pot, including candles for a wedding. The sharp complaint is the pour: it drips, and that reviewer wanted a larger cut in the spout, so you still pour slowly. Dishwasher safety is asked on the listing and not answered. There is no wattage, so there is no element failure to report. It is the hob jug to look at when a spout matters and you can live with fewer reviews than the Marsheepy jug.

Pros

  • 600 ml with a V spout and a silicone spatula at £9.99
  • 4.5 from 23 reviews
  • Heats on a pan and wipes clean in the stored texts
  • Described as fitting a small cooking pot

Cons

  • Drips from the spout, in one review
  • Only 23 reviews, against thousands on the Marsheepy jug
  • No thermostat on the pot
  • Dishwasher safety is unanswered

Best for: Small candle pours on a water bath, when you want a spout.

Less suitable: Pewter, or a batch that will not fit in 600 ml.

Common questions

Is the Bolosa pot a mains heater?

The listing does not state watts or volts. A review says it locks onto a pan and fits a small cooking pot.

Is it listed as dishwasher safe?

The bullets ask and do not answer. That field is not stated.

How does it pour?

The bullets describe a V-shaped nozzle. One reviewer says it drips and that the pour cut should have been larger.

JULWHISPER 1.8 L wax melting pot

Rank 6

JULWHISPER 1.8 L wax melting pot

∼£30

Our view

The JULWHISPER pot claims 1.8 litres, says it holds melted wax at 70–80 °C, and puts a UK plug in the title. It costs £29.99 and averages 4.3 from 699 amazon.co.uk reviews. In the first 50 UK texts, buyers melt soy, wax-melt nuggets, beeswax chunks and recycled jar wax, and they like the non-stick surface plus the spoon and wick holders. One full beeswax fill took about 30 minutes on high. The complaint that repeats is the pour: there is no useful lip, and wax runs down the outside. Temperature steps are called harsh for soap and wax. A fixed 70–80 °C hold can melt many waxes and still miss a cooler pour on the wax sheet. Wattage is not printed.

Pros

  • 1.8 litre claim and 4.3 from 699 reviews
  • Seller hold of 70–80 °C, with a UK plug in the title
  • Non-stick surface and a starter wick kit
  • No repeated dead-element theme in the first 50 texts

Cons

  • Wax runs down the outside when you pour
  • Temperature control described as coarse
  • About 30 minutes for one full beeswax fill, in one report
  • Wattage and a numbered thermostat span are not printed

Best for: Home candle and melt makers who want a large review sample and will pour slowly.

Less suitable: A fine soy pour temperature, or any solder and pewter work.

Does the title say this pot has a UK plug?

Yes. The title ends with UK plug. Wattage and voltage are not in the technical lines.

What capacity is claimed?

1.8 litres, also written as 60 oz, with an inner pot about 17.8 cm wide and 17 cm deep.

Prince August solder melting pot

Rank 7

Prince August solder melting pot

∼£30

Our view

This Prince August pot, model AC-SWDT-31CUK, is a 250 W basin with a thermostat stated from 200 to 450 °C. It costs £29.95 and averages 4.3 from 112 amazon.co.uk reviews, and the listing ranks first in Solder Pots. Reviewers melt about 1 kg of pewter, cast small hobby pieces such as chess sets, and solder nipples onto motorbike cables. The bullets claim a titanium-plated basin and a UK plug. One reviewer received a US plug and blew the fuse on first use, so the pins in the box still need a look. Heaters that stop within a week, or in under a year, are a repeated complaint, and the dial is easy to leave too high. It is the top pick in this set for pewter and solder, and the wrong pot for wax.

Pros

  • 250 W with a stated 200–450 °C thermostat at £29.95
  • 4.3 from 112 reviews, and rank 1 in Solder Pots
  • Used for pewter castings and for tinning control cables
  • Titanium-plated basin claimed in the bullets

Cons

  • Heaters that die after little use come up more than once
  • One unit arrived with a US plug and the fuse blew
  • Gram capacity is not in the technical lines
  • The dial is easy to leave on high

Best for: White-metal casting and cable tinning, once you have checked the plug is a UK three-pin.

Less suitable: Soy, soap, chocolate, or a bench that cannot spare an element that fails early.

Common questions

What control range does the listing give?

The bullets say a thermostat from 200 to 450 °C and 250 W. Voltage is not in the technical table.

Does this listing claim a UK plug?

Yes. The energy bullet says a UK standard plug and CE approval. One reviewer says their unit arrived with a US plug.

Is a capacity printed on the listing?

No gram or litre capacity is in the technical lines. A review says the pot held about 1 kg of pewter.

KAHOUI 900 ml candle wax pot

Rank 8

KAHOUI 900 ml candle wax pot

Our view

The KAHOUI pot is a 900 ml stainless jug at £8.99, sold with a stirring spoon and a carving needle. The title does not say it is electric, and no wattage or voltage is listed. It averages 4.0 from 6 amazon.co.uk reviews. Four short texts call it workable for beginners, small wax batches and wax melts, and one mentions a comfortable plastic handle rather than a fault. There is no electrical failure in those notes because there is no element to fail. Six reviews will not tell you how that handle lasts, which is the sort of fault the much larger Marsheepy sample does record. Graduations are claimed inside and out. It is a roomier hob jug than the 600 ml pots, still without a thermostat of its own.

Pros

  • 900 ml at £8.99, the larger hob jug in this set
  • Stirring spoon and carving needle listed
  • Short reviews call it easy to clean
  • Graduations claimed on the inside and the outside

Cons

  • 4.0 from only 6 reviews
  • No element and no temperature control on the pot
  • The handle is noted as plastic, without a long-term test
  • Dimensions are not in the technical lines

Best for: A slightly larger water-bath jug for small wax batches.

Less suitable: A powered pot, pewter, or a buyer who wants a large review sample.

What is in the box?

The included-components line lists the 900 ml pot, a stirring spoon and a coffee carving needle.

Prince August solder pot with ladle

Rank 9

Prince August solder pot with ladle

∼£40

Our view

The Prince August AC-SWDT-31CUKFL is a 250 W pot stated at 220 V, with a thermostat from 200 to 450 °C and a listed fill of about 1,200 g of pewter. The box lists flux and a metal ladle, which is the difference from the cheaper Prince August listing. Across 30 amazon.co.uk reviews the average is 3.9, and only three review texts are stored. One of those calls the set sturdy, with an on/off switch, a temperature control and a three-pin plug, and says it melts quickly. Another says the unit stopped after two uses, before any finished casting. The listing asks about gold and does not state a gold temperature. It is a hobby casting kit with a thin review sample, not a candle jug.

Pros

  • Thermostat stated from 200 to 450 °C, about 1,200 g of pewter
  • Ladle and flux listed in the box
  • One of three texts describes a three-pin plug, a switch and a dial
  • £39.95 against a maker-shop class of pot that Tiranti lists at £44.16 ex VAT

Cons

  • 3.9 from 30 reviews, with only three review texts
  • One unit stopped after two uses
  • £10 more than the Prince August pot without the ladle
  • No stated gold capability

Best for: Hobby pewter or solder casting when you want the ladle and flux in the same box.

Less suitable: Candles, soap, or a buyer who wants more than three written reviews before trusting the element.

The bullets ask the question and do not answer it. No gold temperature or gold claim is stated.

Bienslys 1.5 L digital wax melter

Rank 10

Bienslys 1.5 L digital wax melter

∼£10

Our view

The Bienslys BMX-M-C01 is a 1.5 litre digital pot at £9.99. The seller says the touchscreen holds temperature to about plus or minus 5 °C, but a degree range, a wattage, a plug and an automatic shut-off are not answered on the listing. It averages 3.8 from 176 amazon.co.uk reviews. Of the 11 stored texts, several say the temperature would not rise, the gauge failed, or the on/off control died after one use or after four or five uses. One unit worked twice and then failed with 500 g of soap base. Another says bubbling wax spat across a kitchen. A few buyers do melt wax in it, yet at this price the failure that matters is the control.

Pros

  • £9.99 for a stated 1.5 litre touchscreen pot
  • Some buyers do melt wax and soap base in it
  • Tapered spout and a non-stick interior are claimed

Cons

  • Temperature and on/off failures in the 11 stored texts
  • One report of hot wax spat across a kitchen
  • Shut-off, wattage and plug are not stated
  • 3.8 from 176 reviews, at the weak end of this set

Best for: Only a buyer who will test the touchscreen the day it arrives and return it if the gauge will not climb.

Less suitable: A soap or candle batch you cannot stop, and any melt you would leave unattended.

What accuracy does the seller claim?

The bullets say the touchscreen holds temperature to about plus or minus 5 °C. A degree range and a wattage are not in the stored lines.

What do the stored review texts say about heat?

Several of the 11 texts say the temperature would not rise or the control died. One says hot wax spat across a kitchen.

WUDLEP 10 L electric wax melter

Rank 11

WUDLEP 10 L electric wax melter

∼£80

Our view

The WUDLEP listing claims 10 litres, an adjustable thermostat and a bottom spigot, at £79.99 and a listed weight of 3.6 kg. Wattage, voltage, a UK plug and a full degree span are not in the stored lines. The seller mentions holding paraffin at 50 °C for beauty treatments and claims the spigot drains 98 percent, a figure that is not measured here. Four amazon.co.uk reviews average 3.8, and three texts are stored. Two buyers use the pot for butters, waxes, handmade soaps or beeswax candles. The third says it caught fire from the inside about two minutes after switch-on. That is one report in three texts, and it is not a substitute for a shop melter that prints watts and a 13 A plug.

Pros

  • 10 litre claim with a bottom spigot
  • Two of three texts use it for wax, soap or butter
  • Thermostat is described as adjustable

Cons

  • 3.8 from only 4 reviews
  • One report of an internal fire about two minutes after it was switched on
  • Wattage and plug are not stated
  • £79.99 for that amount of evidence

Best for: Only someone who will stay with it for every minute and return it at the first smell of burning.

Less suitable: A small-business tank, or any batch you would leave while it heats.

The bullets say the thermostat is adjustable and mention keeping paraffin at 50 °C for beauty treatments. A full degree span is not printed.

What do the three review texts say?

Two buyers use it for candles, soaps or butters. One says the unit caught fire from the inside about two minutes after it was switched on.

ZEROMX digital wax melter

Rank 12

ZEROMX digital wax melter

∼£20

Our view

The ZEROMX CDP001 is a digital wax pot at £19.54 with a detachable inner pot and a pouring spout. The bullets set the ceiling at 120 °C, written there as 250 °F as well. It averages 3.6 from 46 amazon.co.uk reviews, and four texts are stored. One says the plastic around the top of the inner pot cracked within two uses. Another calls the pot small and leaky, while saying the heat control worked. Two short reviews are positive and do not say what was poured. Shut-off is asked and not answered. The dimension line says 10 x 10 x 10 mm, which is not a usable size, and a 120 °C ceiling will not run a pewter melt.

Pros

  • Ceiling stated as 120 °C
  • Detachable inner pot and a spout
  • One review says the heat control worked

Cons

  • 3.6 from 46 reviews, with four texts
  • Rim plastic cracked within two uses, in one report
  • Called small and leaky
  • Printed size of 10 mm and no litre capacity

Best for: A small wax test if you watch the plastic rim and accept a thin review sample.

Less suitable: A pot you will fill hard and knock, or any metal casting.

Common questions

What maximum temperature does ZEROMX state?

The bullets say the display is adjustable up to 250 °F, which they also write as 120 °C.

Does the listing say the pot shuts off by itself?

The bullets ask and do not answer. Dishwasher safety of the inner pot is also asked and not answered.

What failed in the review texts?

One reviewer says plastic around the inner pot cracked within two uses. Another calls it small and leaky, while saying the heat control worked.

How we compared

Shelf prices and stars are the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 19 October 2026 already stored for these twelve listings. This is not a laboratory test. Job and stated temperature class, the size of the review sample, repeated failures in the review notes, and price for that job make the score. The highest score is the top pick. Best value is a different listing: the strongest price for a job the reviews actually support. A 5.0 from two reviews cannot lead. Fewer than 10 reviews is capped.

1

Job and temperature class

30%

A 200–450 °C solder pot scores highest. A wax pot with a printed degree band scores next. A hob jug with no element is capped, because it cannot do pewter.

2

Amazon evidence

25%

Stars scaled, plus a volume bonus. Fewer than 10 reviews is capped. A 5.0 from two reviews with no text cannot lead.

3

Review sentiment

25%

Repeated dead heaters, a dead digital control, cracked plastic, a bad pour, and a fire report are deductions. One fire text is a deduction, not a rate.

4

Value for that job

20%

A working jug under £10 scores high when the reviews support the job. A £79.99 urn with four reviews does not. The value award is not the same listing as the top pick.

Melting pot buying guide

Buy the temperature class before the litre headline. A melting pot on amazon.co.uk is a solder pot, a wax pot, or a hob jug, and they are not substitutes. Solder and pewter need about 200–450 °C. Wax and soap stay far cooler, or they sit in a water bath. A jug under £10 has no element. On a mains pot, look for a BS 1363 plug and for reviews that mention a dead heater or a fire. None of these listings melts gold.

What is a melting pot?

A melting pot on amazon.co.uk is one of three tools, and they are not substitutes. An electric solder or pewter pot in this set runs to about 450 °C at about 250 W and is ladled, not tipped like a jug. An electric wax or soap melter stays far cooler, often a keep-warm near 70–80 °C or a ceiling around 100–120 °C, and pours from a spout or a tap. A stainless jug from about £8 to about £10 has no element. You sit it in a saucepan of water.

Best for

  • Hobby casters who need a stated 200–450 °C pot for pewter or solder
  • Home candle makers whose batch fits a wax pot or an £8–£10 hob jug

Not ideal for

  • Gold, silver, copper or aluminium, which sit far above a 450 °C ceiling
  • A weekly multi-kilo tank if the only large pot has four reviews and a fire report

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying on the phrase alone

Melting pot covers three tools. A 450 °C solder pot, a wax pot near 70–120 °C, and a hob jug with no element are not substitutes. A hob jug will not melt pewter.

  2. 2

One soy temperature for every grade

Candle Shack's soy notes put pour temperatures from the low 30s °C for S41 to about 55–70 °C for 464 grades. A pot stuck at 70–80 °C only covers the melt for many waxes.

  3. 3

Ignoring a dead element or a US plug

Stars do not mean the element lasts. Prince August reviews include heaters that die, and one US plug. Ksedcon and WUDLEP each have one fire report. A 10 litre headline with four reviews is not a shop urn.

What to weigh up

Job and temperature class

High

The first check is the job, because these listings are not substitutes. White metal and solder need a stated band around 200–450 °C. In this set only the two Prince August pots print that band, both at 250 W. The cheaper one is about £29.95 and is the top pick. The ladle kit is about £39.95. Soy, beeswax, paraffin and soap base need a wax-range pot or a water bath. JULWHISPER states a 70–80 °C hold. Yaskyly states 50–100 °C. ZEROMX states a ceiling of 120 °C.

Plug, failures and value

High

On a mains pot, the plug is the next check. UK mains are 230 V. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 expects a correctly fitted BS 1363 plug, or a proper conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse. The cheaper Prince August listing claims a UK plug, and one reviewer received a US plug. JULWHISPER puts a UK plug in the title. Several wax melters do not state a plug or a voltage. A CE bullet is not a published test pass.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Hobby pewter and solder

You cast white metal or tin cables and you need about 200–450 °C. The Prince August solder melting pot is the top pick at about £29.95: 250 W, 4.3 from 112 reviews. Check the plug is a UK three-pin. One reviewer received a US plug, and heaters that die early are the repeated complaint. It is the wrong pot for wax.

Home candles on a mains pot

You want an electric wax pot and a large review sample, and you will pour slowly. The JULWHISPER 1.8 litre pot is about £29.99, with a stated 70–80 °C hold and 4.3 from 699 reviews. Wax runs down the outside. That hold can miss a cooler soy pour on the wax sheet. It will not melt pewter.

Small wax batches on a hob

You already heat a saucepan and the batch fits in 600 ml. The Marsheepy jug is best value at about £9.98, with 4.6 from 4,786 reviews and no element. It is used for wax, balm, butter and chocolate. It will not melt solder or pewter. A handle came off in use on some units.

Common questions about melting pots

Which melting pot is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Prince August solder melting pot at about £29.95. It scores 84. The listing says 250 W and a thermostat from 200 to 450 °C, with 4.3 from 112 reviews. Reviewers use it for pewter castings and for tinning cables. The bullets claim a titanium-plated basin and a UK plug. One reviewer received a US plug. Heaters that stop after little use are a repeated complaint. It is the wrong pot for wax or soap.
How much does a melting pot cost on amazon.co.uk?
The twelve amazon.co.uk rows kept here run from about £7.99 to about £79.99, using shelf prices stored for 19 October 2026. Hob jugs and one cheap digital pot sit at about £7.99 to £9.99. Hobby wax kits and the two Prince August solder pots sit at about £19.54 to £39.95. The WUDLEP 10 litre pot is about £79.99, with 3.8 from 4 reviews. These are stored prices, not a live check.
What should you check before you buy a melting pot?
Check the job before the word pot. White metal and solder need about 200–450 °C. Soy, beeswax, paraffin and soap base need a wax-range pot or a water bath. A hob jug will not melt pewter. Then check the control: a dial, a 70–80 °C hold, a thermometer, or a digital panel. On a mains pot, look for a BS 1363 plug. One Prince August reviewer received a US plug. Read dead-element and fire reviews before the star average.
Is a solder pot the same as a wax pot?
They are not the same tool. The Prince August pots state 200–450 °C at 250 W and are for solder and pewter, ladled rather than poured like a jug. Electric wax pots in this set stay near 70–120 °C, or they do not print a degree span. Hob jugs from about £7.99 have no element. A 70–80 °C hold can melt many waxes and still miss a cooler pour. Who should skip each type is on solder or wax.
Will any of these melt gold?
No. Gold melts near 1,064 °C. Silver, copper and aluminium are outside this category as well. The hottest stated ceiling here is 450 °C, on the two Prince August solder pots. A wax pot at 70–120 °C, and a hob jug with no element, are further away. The Prince August ladle listing asks about gold and does not state a gold temperature. Do not read a product title as a precious-metal furnace.
Is a UK plug stated on every mains pot?
No. Domestic kit on a BS 1363 socket needs a correctly fitted UK plug, or a proper conversion plug and a BS 1362 fuse, under regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The cheaper Prince August listing claims a UK plug, and one reviewer received a US plug. JULWHISPER puts a UK plug in the title. Several wax melters do not state a plug or a voltage. A CE bullet is not a published test pass.
What do the fire reviews mean?
Two stored reviews describe a fire. One Ksedcon review says a metal holder got hot enough that something on the table caught fire. One WUDLEP review says the pot caught fire from the inside about two minutes after switch-on. Each is one report, not a rate, and neither makes a thermostat fireproof. Wax is fuel. Keep ignition away from anything that burns, stay with the pot, and stop if a unit smokes, trips or catches fire.
Does a melting pot clean the casting?
A melting pot does not clean the casting. After pewter or solder work, small metal parts are a separate job, covered on the 10L ultrasonic cleaner comparison. Do not put a hot pot, wax or leaded alloy into a cleaner. Do not treat leaded casting metal and tin pewter as the same alloy. Wash your hands after leaded alloy. Wet metal can throw melt. These pots are not for cooking.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Prince August solder melting pot at about £29.95. It scores 84, the highest here: 250 W, a stated 200–450 °C thermostat, 4.3 from 112 reviews, and a titanium-plated basin claimed in the bullets. Heaters that die early, and one US plug, are the deductions. Best value is the Marsheepy 600 ml double boiler at about £9.98. It is a hob jug with no element, 4.6 from 4,786 reviews, for small wax, soap and food melts. It will not melt pewter. The WUDLEP 10 litre pot at about £79.99 does not take a badge: 3.8 from 4 reviews, including one fire report.
