Linear guide comparison 2026

The best linear guides, compared.

Top pick: FUYU FSK40J stage, 700 mm title Best value: CNCMANS SBR16 600 mm rail set – About £34.33 with the highest value part among the rest, 14, and 4.1 from 36 sled reviews, including broken ball-race reports. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.
Peter F.Editor

A linear guide is a rail and a carriage that keep motion on one straight line, usually with recirculating balls. UK buyers on amazon.co.uk are fitting these kits to routers, router sleds, 3D printers and small powered axes. A supported round shaft, suits a wooden sled. A ball-screw stage already includes a 23 that still needs a driver. Stars on several listings are shared across lengths, so a 4.9 does not prove the title stroke. Nothing here states a accuracy class or a UKCA mark. The checks are in the [linear guide buying guide](/hub/workshop/linear-guide/sub/linear-guide-buying-guide). A profile rail, with an block, is the stiff option. A miniature rail, or a 9 mm slide, is for a light head.

The best linear guides in detail

FUYU FSK40J stage, 700 mm title

Rank 1

FUYU FSK40J stage, 700 mm title

∼£237

Our view

The FUYU FSK40J, listed at £237.35, is a low-profile aluminium module whose title says a 700 mm stroke, a NEMA 23, and a height of 47 mm. The average is 5.0 from 14 reviews, and none of the written reviews in the file is from the UK. Those reviews describe about 100 mm of travel and say limit switches are not included, so the star line is not a test of the 700 mm title. An Italian review says the module needs its own driver and that a small GRBL board was not enough. The bullet allows inverted mounting at a stated 10 kg, with 20 kg horizontal, on M5 holes. At the top of this set’s prices, you are buying a powered module whose reviews do not confirm the stroke printed on the page.

Pros

  • NEMA 23 included, title stroke 700 mm, at £237.35
  • Stated height 47 mm and M5 mounting holes
  • Seller states 20 kg horizontal and 10 kg inverted
  • 5.0 from 14 reviews on the listing average

Cons

  • Written reviews describe about 100 mm, not 700 mm
  • No UK review text in the file
  • Limit switches are not in the contents line
  • Needs its own driver; a small GRBL board was not enough for one reviewer

Best for: You want a low-profile powered module and you can verify the stroke and add limit switches yourself.

Less suitable: You need a reviewed 700 mm travel, switches in the box, or a hand-pushed sled rail.

Common questions

Does the module include the motor?

Yes. The title and the bullet name a NEMA 23. An Italian review says it needs its own driver and that a small GRBL board was not enough.

Can the listing be mounted upside down?

The bullet says yes, with a flip load of 10 kg. Horizontal load is stated as 20 kg. Mounting holes are M5.

Are limit switches included?

They are not in the contents line. More than one US review says you add your own. Those reviews also describe about 100 mm of travel, not 700 mm.

GooEquip HGR20 700 mm rail set

Rank 2

GooEquip HGR20 700 mm rail set

∼£41

Our view

The GooEquip HGR20 set, listed at £41.05, is two 700 mm profile rails and four HGH20CA blocks, at 4.27 kg, with no motor. The listing average is 5.0 from four reviews. The only review text in the file is Thanks, so the stars do not describe straightness, grease, or how the blocks feel on a 700 mm rail. The bullets say high rigidity and high load and give no figure and no accuracy class. One material field says carbon steel while the bullets say bearing steel and chrome plate. It is the cheapest profile pair in this set, and you are buying the specification rather than a reviewed sample of this length.

Pros

  • Two 700 mm HGR20 rails and four HGH20CA blocks at £41.05
  • Pre-drilled rails
  • Cheapest profile kit in this set
  • A pair of rails, not a single shaft

Cons

  • The only review text is Thanks
  • Four reviews do not describe this length
  • No stated load or accuracy class
  • Material fields disagree

Best for: You want a 700 mm HGR20 pair at the low end of this set and you can check the rails on the bench.

Less suitable: You want a review that describes straightness, or a motor already in the box.

Common questions

What is in the box?

Two 700 mm HGR20 rails and four HGH20CA blocks. There is no motor and no stated accuracy class.

What do the reviews say about this 700 mm set?

The listing average is 5.0 from 4 reviews. The only review text in the raw file is Thanks, so it does not describe straightness or smoothness.

Does the listing state a load rating?

No. The bullets say high rigidity and high load without a figure. Weight is given as 4.27 kg.

iMetrx HGR20 600 mm rail set

Rank 3

iMetrx HGR20 600 mm rail set

∼£60

Our view

The iMetrx HGR20 set, listed at £59.99, is two 600 mm rails and four HGH20CA blocks, part iMetrx-1570, at 4.25 kg. The listing shows 4.9 from eight reviews, and the same texts appear on the 800 mm ASIN. Those reviews describe a 200 mm kit, including one priced at £39.99, so they are not a report on this 600 mm pair. A UK reviewer said the blocks move under their own weight on a vertical rail and are not free-sliding until lubricated, and that the parts arrive oiled. There is no motor. You are paying a mid-set price for a plausible HGR20 specification whose written reviews belong to a shorter rail.

Pros

  • Two 600 mm HGR20 rails and four HGH20CA blocks at £59.99
  • Bearing-steel rail and aluminium blocks named
  • Reviews mention oil and plastic retainers
  • Pre-drilled profile pair

Cons

  • The 4.9 from 8 reviews describes 200 mm rails
  • Same review texts as the 800 mm ASIN
  • Not free-sliding until lubricated
  • No motor

Best for: You want a 600 mm HGR20 pair and you will judge the rails yourself rather than the shared star line.

Less suitable: You want reviews that describe this 600 mm length, or a sled shaft at a lower price.

Common questions

Does the 4.9 rating describe this 600 mm pair?

The listing shows 4.9 from 8 reviews, and the same texts appear on the 800 mm ASIN. Reviewers describe a 200 mm kit, including one priced at £39.99.

Is a motor included?

No. You get two rails and four HGH20CA blocks. Reviews mention protective oil and plastic retainers.

Do the blocks slide freely when dry?

A UK reviewer said they move under their own weight on a vertical rail but are not free-sliding until lubricated. The parts arrive oiled.

iMetrx HGR20 800 mm rail set

Rank 4

iMetrx HGR20 800 mm rail set

∼£65

Our view

The iMetrx 800 mm set, listed at £64.99, is two HGR20 rails and four HGH20CA blocks, part iMetrx-1571, at 5.29 kg. It carries the same 4.9 from eight reviews as the 600 mm kit, and those texts talk about 200 mm rails rather than this length. The 600 mm kit is £59.99 and 4.25 kg, so the extra £5 and about a kilogram are the longer steel, not a separate test. The rails are described as pre-drilled, and the bullets do not say a manual is in the box. There is no motor. If you need 800 mm of profile rail, this is the longer iMetrx row, with the review limit stated up front.

Pros

  • Two 800 mm HGR20 rails and four HGH20CA blocks at £64.99
  • Heavier set at 5.29 kg, matching the longer title
  • Same block code as the 600 mm iMetrx kit
  • Pre-drilled rails

Cons

  • Reviews match the 600 mm listing and describe 200 mm rails
  • No written check of 800 mm straightness
  • No manual listed
  • £5 more than the 600 mm pair without a separate review set

Best for: You want the longer iMetrx HGR20 pair and you accept that the stars belong to a shorter rail.

Less suitable: You need a review of this 800 mm length, or a supported shaft for a wooden sled.

Common questions

How is this different from the 600 mm iMetrx kit?

The title says 800 mm rails and the part number is iMetrx-1571, at 5.29 kg and £64.99. The 600 mm kit is iMetrx-1570 at 4.25 kg and £59.99.

Do the reviews confirm 800 mm straightness?

No. The review texts are the same as on the 600 mm ASIN and talk about 200 mm rails. They do not describe this length.

Is a manual listed?

The listing asks whether a manual is included. The bullets do not say one is in the box.

CNCMANS SBR20 800 mm rail set

Rank 5

CNCMANS SBR20 800 mm rail set

∼£43

Our view

The CNCMANS SBR20 set, listed at £43.33, is the top pick in this comparison when the job is a supported sled axis rather than a stiff gantry. You get two 800 mm shafts and four SBR20UU blocks, at 6.25 kg, with 4.7 from 40 amazon.co.uk reviews. Reviewers use this family for router sleds. A UK review found the blocks gritty until they were cleaned and oiled, and another heard a scrape until PTFE was added, which cuts against the no-maintenance bullet. The title says stainless steel and the material field says carbon steel, with a silver-plating line in a bullet, so the metal is not settled. There is no motor. An open bearing on a round shaft still will not resist a cutter moment the way a profile block does, so this is the wrong top pick if that twist is the load you care about.

Pros

  • Two 800 mm SBR20 shafts and four blocks at £43.33
  • 4.7 from 40 reviews, the largest sample here
  • Pre-drilled support for a sled-style axis
  • UK reviews describe real sled use

Cons

  • Blocks reported gritty until cleaned and oiled
  • Title says stainless steel; the material field says carbon steel
  • No motor and no stated load
  • An open round bearing does not resist a cutter moment

Best for: You want an 800 mm supported pair for a router sled and you will oil the blocks before the first pass.

Less suitable: You need a profile rail for a gantry, a settled stainless-steel claim, or a screw and motor in the box.

Common questions

Does this listing include a motor?

No. The box line is two 800 mm SBR20 shafts and four SBR20UU blocks. You still need a frame and, if the axis is powered, your own drive.

Is the rail stainless steel?

The title says stainless steel. The material field says carbon steel, and a bullet also says silver plating. The listing does not settle that.

Do the reviews say the rails arrive ready to run dry?

The bullet says no maintenance. A UK review of this family found the blocks gritty until they were cleaned and oiled, and another heard a scrape until PTFE was added.

Akozon LML9B miniature rail

Rank 6

Akozon LML9B miniature rail

Our view

The Akozon LML9B, listed at £9.17, is a 9 mm miniature rail with a slide block, and the title says that rail is 100 mm long. The dimension field instead prints 40 × 30 × 20 mm, so you cannot treat 100 mm as settled. Across three amazon.co.uk reviews the average is 4.6, and one buyer found one rail about 5 mm longer than the other. The bullet describes a side oil inlet and names oil as the lubricant, with no load figure. Number of items is 2 while the unit count is 1.0. It is a very light slide at 58 g, and it is the wrong part if the next job is a router.

Pros

  • 9 mm rail and a slide block at £9.17
  • Side oil inlet named on the block
  • 4.6 from 3 reviews
  • Listed weight 58 g

Cons

  • Title length and dimension line disagree
  • One review found about a 5 mm mismatch
  • Item count and unit count conflict
  • No stated load

Best for: You want a very light slide and you can measure the rail before you design around it.

Less suitable: You need a settled 100 mm length, a load figure, or a rail for a cutter.

Common questions

How long is this rail?

The title says 100 mm and 9 mm wide. The dimension field says 40 x 30 x 20 mm. A UK reviewer found one rail about 5 mm longer than the other.

Does it include a carriage?

Yes. The title includes a slide block, and the bullet describes a side oil inlet. Number of items is 2 while the unit count is 1.0.

What lubricant does the listing name?

The compatible-lubricant field says oil. The bullet says to add oil through the inlet on the block. No load figure is stated.

DTGN MGN12 200 mm rail pair

Rank 7

DTGN MGN12 200 mm rail pair

∼£27

Our view

The DTGN kit, listed at £26.99, is two 200 mm MGN12 rails and two MGN12H blocks, plus keepers and a wrench. The rails are given as 200 × 12 × 8 mm and the blocks as 45 × 27 × 10 mm, in bearing steel, at 417 g for the set. One of the two UK reviews felt rough spots and stick. The other used a carriage as a bolt slide and said it ran freely. The listing tells you to wipe off the rust-prevention oil, fit a linear-guide lubricant, and push the block on parallel with the keeper in place. Two reviews and no stated load are a thin basis for a smoothness claim, and this remains a miniature rail.

Pros

  • Two 200 mm MGN12 rails and two MGN12H blocks at £26.99
  • Keepers and a wrench listed
  • Install note covers rust oil and a parallel push
  • One reviewer found the carriage free as a bolt slide

Cons

  • One of two reviews felt stick points
  • No stated load
  • Only two written reviews
  • Miniature rail, not a supported shaft

Best for: You are building a short printer or laser axis and you will grease the blocks before the first travel.

Less suitable: You need a router gantry, or a smoothness claim based on more than two reviews.

Common questions

Is this pair aimed at a 3D printer?

The listing asks that and the application bullet includes 3D printers, small CNC tools, and laser kit. It is a miniature rail, not a supported shaft.

What lubricant does the listing tell you to use?

Clean off the rust-prevention oil and replace it with a linear-guide lubricant. The install note says to keep the block parallel and push it on gently with the keeper fitted.

Were the carriages smooth in the reviews?

One UK reviewer felt rough spots and stick. The other used them as a bolt slide and said the carriage ran freely. There are only two written reviews.

GooEquip HGR15 1000 mm rail set

Rank 8

GooEquip HGR15 1000 mm rail set

∼£48

Our view

The GooEquip HGR15 set, listed at £48.05, is two 1,000 mm profile rails and four blocks, at 4.07 kg, with 4.5 from two reviews. One UK review says the rails were smooth and easy to fit. The title says four HGH15CA blocks, one bullet says HGH15, and another says HG150CA, so the carriage code is not consistent. The bullets claim an anti-rust surface and do not call the set weatherproof. No manual is listed, no load is stated, and there is no motor. Two reviews are enough to note an easy fit, and they are not a straightness survey of a metre of rail.

Pros

  • Two 1,000 mm HGR15 rails and four blocks at £48.05
  • One UK review calls the rails smooth and easy to fit
  • Pre-drilled profile rails
  • A longer pair than the 700 mm HGR20 kit

Cons

  • Only two reviews
  • Title and bullets disagree on the block code
  • No stated load and no manual listed
  • Not described as weatherproof

Best for: You want a metre of smaller profile rail and you can live with two reviews and a muddled block code.

Less suitable: You need a confirmed HGH15CA code, a load figure, or a large UK review sample.

Does it include a manual?

The listing asks that question. The bullets do not say a manual is in the box. They do say the rails are pre-drilled.

Is it described as weatherproof?

The listing asks. The bullets claim an anti-rust surface and do not say the set is weatherproof.

FUYU FSK40 stage, 50 mm title

Rank 9

FUYU FSK40 stage, 50 mm title

∼£164

Our view

The FUYU FSK40, listed at £164.40, is an aluminium ball-screw stage with a NEMA 23, and the title stroke is 50 mm on a C7 G1610 screw. The bullets also describe stroke options from 50 mm to 1,000 mm, and reviews mention 100 mm, 250 mm, and 350 mm units, so the title length is not what every buyer received. The average is 4.4 from 17 reviews. Stated loads are 25 kg horizontal and 20 kg vertical, with repeatability printed as 0.02 mm and speeds of 180 mm/s horizontal and 80 mm/s vertical. A controller is not in the contents line, and a UK reviewer was still waiting for one. Another noted thin instructions and no warranty sheet. The voltage cell prints 1.7 V and 350 W, which is a listing conflict rather than a UK mains specification.

Pros

  • NEMA 23 and a C7 G1610 screw at £164.40
  • Stated loads of 25 kg horizontal and 20 kg vertical
  • 4.4 from 17 reviews
  • M4 mounting holes named

Cons

  • Title says 50 mm; reviews describe other strokes
  • Controller not in the contents line
  • Thin instructions and no warranty sheet in one UK review
  • Voltage cell prints 1.7 V and 350 W

Best for: You want a short FUYU stage and you will confirm the stroke, and buy a driver, before you design the axis.

Less suitable: You need the 50 mm title to match every unit reviewers received, or limit switches in the box.

CNCMANS SBR16 600 mm rail set

Rank 10

CNCMANS SBR16 600 mm rail set

∼£34

Our view

The CNCMANS SBR16 set, listed at £34.33, is the best value in this comparison if you are building a wooden router sled and you will check every block. You get two supported 600 mm shafts and four SBR16UU blocks, at 3.36 kg, with 4.1 from 36 amazon.co.uk reviews that are mostly sled builds. More than one review describes a ball race that broke or was missing. The bullet says the set needs no maintenance, while reviewers found the bearings dry and planned to grease them. Some comments on the listing discuss a 1,500 mm purchase, so the 600 mm title is the length you have to confirm at checkout. There is no motor, and an open round bearing will not hold a cutter that is trying to twist the carriage.

Pros

  • Two 600 mm SBR16 shafts and four blocks at £34.33
  • 36 reviews, mostly router sleds
  • Pre-drilled support
  • Lowest supported-shaft price in this set

Cons

  • Ball races reported broken or missing
  • Bearings arrived dry despite a no-maintenance bullet
  • 4.1 is the lower star line of the two shaft kits
  • Other lengths appear in the same review set

Best for: You want a cheaper supported pair for a wooden sled and you will inspect each block before you mount it.

Less suitable: You need a profile rail that resists a cutter moment, or a set with no failed-race reports.

Common questions

What length is this SBR16 set?

The title says two 600 mm shafts and four SBR16UU blocks. Some reviews discuss 1,500 mm purchases on the same listing, so check the length you order.

Have reviewers reported failed blocks?

Yes. More than one UK review describes a ball race that broke or was missing. Others used the set for a router sled and were satisfied.

Does the listing include a motor?

No. It is a supported-shaft kit with pre-drilled holes. The bullet says it needs no maintenance; reviewers found bearings dry and planned to grease them.

Zeberoxyz SFU1605 200 mm stage

Rank 11

Zeberoxyz SFU1605 200 mm stage

∼£89

Our view

The Zeberoxyz stage, listed at £88.90, is one dual-shaft actuator with an SFU1605 screw and a NEMA 23, and the stated stroke is 200 mm with a 5 mm lead. The bullets claim 30 kg horizontal, 15 kg vertical, 0–100 mm/s, and repeat positioning of ±0.03 mm. The average is 3.8 from 16 reviews. The written reviews on the listing praise the ball screw and describe play in the linear bearings, including about 1 mm and later about 1.8 mm at the tool, and none of those texts is a UK review. The dimension field prints 0.04 × 0.01 × 0.01 cm, which does not match a 200 mm stage. You still need a driver, and the play reports are the reason this is not the stage to buy if the tool must hold position.

Pros

  • NEMA 23 and SFU1605 included at £88.90
  • Stated stroke 200 mm and a 5 mm lead
  • Seller states 30 kg horizontal and 15 kg vertical
  • Lowest motorised-stage price in this set

Cons

  • 3.8 from 16 reviews, the lowest star line here
  • Written reviews describe about 1 mm to 1.8 mm of play
  • Those written reviews are not UK reviews
  • Printed dimensions do not match a 200 mm stage

Best for: You want a short powered axis with the stepper already fitted and you can tolerate shaft play.

Less suitable: You need a stiff tool position, a UK review of this stroke, or a rail-only sled kit.

Common questions

Does this stage include the stepper?

Yes. The contents line is one dual optical-axis actuator with a NEMA 23. Lead is stated as 5 mm per turn and stroke as 200 mm.

What load and repeatability does the listing claim?

Horizontal load 30 kg, vertical load 15 kg, speed 0–100 mm/s, and repeat positioning ±0.03 mm. Those are seller bullets, not a test in this file.

What do the reviews say about the bearings?

German and Italian reviews praise the ball screw and criticise play on the guide shafts, including about 1 mm and later about 1.8 mm at the tool. No UK review text is in the raw file.

How we compared

Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk listings in this comparison, read on 19 October 2026. There is no lab test. The score is 0–100 from four parts: stars, the size of the review sample, fit for the job the listing claims, and value in this set. The highest score is the top pick, once. The highest value part that is not the top pick is best value, once. A 5.0 from a handful of reviews does not outrank a 40-review sled listing.

1

Amazon stars

45%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk, scaled out of 45. A 5.0 scores 45. A 4.7 scores 42. A 4.1 scores 37. A 3.8 scores 34. This is the listing average, not a lab score.

2

Review sample

15%

Forty or more reviews score 15. Sixteen to 39 score 12. Five to 15 score 8. Fewer than five score 4. A perfect average from two or four reviews cannot fill this part.

3

Fit for the claimed job

25%

Up to 25 points for whether the family, the length and the written reviews match the job on the title. A supported pair whose UK reviews describe sled use scores higher than a profile pair whose only review text does not describe the rail, or a stage whose reviews describe a different stroke.

4

Value in this set

15%

Up to 15 points for the shelf price against the evidence in this set. The £43.33 supported pair with 40 reviews takes the top of this part. The £34.33 supported pair is next. The highest total is not also the value award.

Linear guide buying guide

Buy the family before the size number. HGR, SBR and a motorised stage are different parts, and 20 does not make them equivalent. Then read the block code, subtract the block from the rail to get travel, and check that the reviews describe this length. Shipping oil is rust protection. If a NEMA 23 is in the box, you still need a driver. Nothing here is a stated HIWIN class or a UKCA mark.

What is a linear guide?

A linear guide is a rail and a carriage that keep motion on one straight line, usually with recirculating balls. On amazon.co.uk the kits in this comparison are for CNC routers, router sleds, 3D printers and small powered axes. Shelf prices run from about £9.17 to about £237.35. The family is the decision. A profile rail, HGR with an HGH block, is the stiff option. A supported round shaft, SBR, suits a wooden sled. A miniature rail, MGN or a 9 mm slide, is for a light head.

Best for

  • A hobby CNC builder who wants a stiffer axis than V-wheels and can mount to a metal datum
  • A woodworker making a router sled, where a supported shaft is the usual amazon.co.uk choice

Not ideal for

  • You need a stated HIWIN accuracy class, a UKCA mark, or a load figure the listing does not print
  • You are placing machinery on the Great Britain market, or wiring a driver to 230 V, without that competence

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Buying length instead of stroke

A 200 mm rail is not 200 mm of travel. Subtract the block. Two blocks on a short rail can leave almost no travel. The title stroke on a stage is not settled when the reviews describe a different length.

  2. 2

    Trusting a shared star rating

The iMetrx 4.9 is the same eight reviews on the 600 mm and 800 mm ASINs, and the texts describe 200 mm rails. The FUYU 5.0 describes about 100 mm, not the 700 mm title. Read the review, not only the average.

  3. 3

    Running the rail dry

Shipping oil is rust protection. Wipe it off and fit a linear-guide lubricant before the first travel. SBR bullets that say no maintenance are contradicted by reviews of gritty or dry blocks. Do not treat SBR as maintenance-free.

What to weigh up

Family, block and stroke

High

The first decision is the family, not the size number printed on the box. A profile kit in this set is HGR15 or HGR20 with square carriages, sold as two rails and four blocks. A miniature is the MGN12H pair at 200 mm, or the 9 mm LML-style rail whose title length and dimension line disagree. A supported shaft is SBR16 at 600 mm or SBR20 at 800 mm, again two rails and four open bearing blocks.

Reviews, grease and drive

High

Straightness and grease are the next check, and the written reviews have to describe the length in the title. Shipping oil is rust protection, not the service lubricant. Lubricate before use. Dry or twisted rails show up in the SBR reviews. The SBR20 bullet says no maintenance, while a UK review of that family found the blocks gritty until they were cleaned and oiled. Do not treat an SBR set as maintenance-free. Shared stars are a separate trap.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Wooden router sled

You are flattening a slab and you want the supported-shaft pair with the largest review sample. The CNCMANS SBR20 800 mm set is the top pick at about £43.33, with 4.7 from 40 reviews. Oil the blocks first. The title says stainless steel and the material field says carbon steel. If you want the lower spend, the SBR16 set is best value and you inspect every block.

Stiffer CNC axis

You want a profile rail rather than an open round shaft, and you can mount to a metal datum. The GooEquip HGR20 700 mm set is the highest-scoring profile pair here, at about £41.05, with four HGH20CA blocks. The listing average is 5.0 from four reviews, and the only review text is Thanks, so you are buying the specification and checking the rails yourself.

Short printer or laser

You only need a short miniature rail and you will grease it before the first travel. The DTGN MGN12 pair is two 200 mm rails and two MGN12H blocks at about £26.99, with keepers and a wrench listed. One of two UK reviews felt stick points. There is no stated load. It is the wrong part for a router.

Common questions about linear guides

Which linear guide is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the CNCMANS SBR20 800 mm set at about £43.33. It scores 92. You get two supported shafts and four SBR20UU blocks, with 4.7 from 40 amazon.co.uk reviews that describe sled use. Oil the blocks before the first pass. The title says stainless steel and the material field says carbon steel. It is the wrong pick if you need a profile rail against a cutter moment, or a screw and motor in the box.
How much does a linear guide cost on amazon.co.uk?
Shelf prices in this set, read on 19 October 2026, run from about £9.17 to about £237.35. The 9 mm rail is about £9.17, the MGN12 pair about £26.99 and the SBR16 pair about £34.33. Mid profile kits and the SBR20 sit about £41 to £65. The motorised stages are about £88.90, £164.40 and £237.35. Prices move. These are stored shelf figures, not a market study.
What should you check before you buy a linear guide?
Start with the family. A profile rail, a supported shaft and a motorised stage are not interchangeable, and the number 20 does not make them so. Then check the block code and how many blocks you get. Subtract the block from the rail length, because a 200 mm rail is not 200 mm of travel. Read whether the reviews describe this length. If a motor is included, you still need a driver, a supply and limit switches.
Should you buy a profile rail or a supported shaft?
Choose a profile rail when you want the stiffer block and you can mount to a metal datum. Choose a supported shaft when the job is a wooden router sled, which is what the larger UK review samples here describe. SBR is not maintenance-free. One open round bearing will not resist a cutter moment the way a profile block does. A miniature rail is only for a light head.
Does a motorised stage include a driver?
No. The Zeberoxyz stage and both FUYU rows include a NEMA 23. They do not include a driver, a supply or, on the FUYU contents lines, a controller or limit switches. A UK reviewer of the 50 mm FUYU title was still waiting for a controller. An Italian review of the 700 mm title said a small GRBL board was not enough. Do not read a stepper voltage as a UK 230 V plug.
Do the stars prove the length in the title?
No. Several listings share a rating across lengths. The iMetrx 4.9 from eight reviews appears on both the 600 mm and the 800 mm ASINs, and the texts describe 200 mm rails. The FUYU 5.0 from 14 reviews has no UK review text in the file, and those texts describe about 100 mm rather than the 700 mm title. A high star line is not evidence of the stroke on the page.
Is a home kit UKCA marked, and does PUWER apply?
Nothing in this set states a UKCA mark. A rail and carriage with no drive are components. The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 apply when someone places machinery, or partly completed machinery, on the Great Britain market. PUWER 1998 applies to work equipment, not to a private hobby bench. Call a professional if you are supplying a machine, or wiring a driver to 230 V, without that competence.
When is a cross table the closer comparison?
A linear guide on this page is a rail kit or a small powered stage for a sled, a printer or a short axis. A compound slide under a drill or a mill is a different part. That workshop category is the cross table comparison. Do not treat an HGR pair as a ready-made milling table. Do not treat a stage voltage line as a mains specification either.

Our verdict

The top pick is the CNCMANS SBR20 800 mm set at about £43.33. It scores 92, the highest here: two supported shafts, four SBR20UU blocks, and 4.7 from 40 reviews that describe sled use. Grit until the blocks are oiled, and a stainless-steel title against a carbon-steel field, are the limits. An open round bearing still will not resist a cutter moment. Best value is the CNCMANS SBR16 600 mm set at about £34.33. Its value part is 14, the highest among the rest, with 4.1 from 36 reviews that are mostly router sleds. More than one review describes a ball race that broke or was missing.
