A biscuit joiner, also called a plate jointer, cuts a crescent slot for a compressed beech biscuit so two pieces of timber or board stay flush while the glue cures. In the UK you use one for carcasses, mitres, edge-glued panels, and as part of a kitchen worktop joint. Quality is a fence you can square and lock, and a true 4 mm slot, not a small gap in watts. Match the plug or the battery to the supply you have, and extract wood dust rather than sweep it. What to check before you pay is in the [biscuit joiner buying guide](/hub/workshop/biscuit-joiner/sub/biscuit-joiner-buying-guide). A biscuit is not the structural joint in a chair, a bed rail, or a specified fire door. The biscuits you will actually use are normally 0, 10 and 20.

The best biscuit joiners in detail

DeWalt DCW682B 20V MAX biscuit joiner

Rank 1

DeWalt DCW682B 20V MAX biscuit joiner

∼£274

Our view

The DeWalt DCW682B listing at £273.65 is a brushless tool-only joiner with a dual rack-and-pinion fence, a 0–90 degree bevel, and stops for sizes 0, 10 and 20. The page shows 4.8 from 430 reviews, but the first 50 reviews shown are mostly from the United States, Canada or Mexico, so that count is not British opinion. Those reviewers describe a smooth plunge and enough power for cabinet slots, and some prefer it to an older corded DeWalt. A dust bag or chute clogs for several of them unless they fit a hose, and this listing includes an AirLock port and an angled port rather than a bag. The battery line says 20V MAX XR lithium-ion and does not say a UK 18 V pack fits, so do not assume the yellow batteries in a UK van will run it. One UK comment is about the price being about £200 more than other sellers, and biscuits are sold separately. One US review says it does not cut F biscuits.

Pros

  • Dual rack-and-pinion fence, with tool-free depth, height and bevel in the bullets
  • Stops for sizes 0, 10 and 20, and a 0–90 degree bevel
  • AirLock port and angled dust port in the box
  • 2.71 kg on the listing
  • Brushless motor stated in the title

Cons

  • The 4.8 from 430 is mostly not United Kingdom reviews
  • Battery description is 20V MAX, and the listing does not say a UK 18 V pack fits
  • No battery, charger, case or dust bag in the included list
  • Dust port clogs in the non-UK reviews unless a hose is fitted

Best for: You have confirmed, from DeWalt rather than from this page alone, that your packs match a 20V MAX tool, and you will extract through a hose.

Less suitable: You need a listing that states UK 18 V compatibility, a dust bag in the box, or a price near the corded machines.

Common questions

Does this DeWalt listing include a battery?

No. The title says tool only. Included parts are the joiner, a 4 inch blade, two dust ports, a spanner and a T20 wrench.

Does the listing include a dust bag?

A dust bag is not in the included-components list. The box lists an AirLock-compatible dust port and an angled dust port.

Does the listing say it fits a UK 18 V DeWalt battery?

It does not. The battery line says 20V MAX XR lithium-ion. Biscuits are sold separately.

DeWalt DCW682NT-XJ 18V biscuit jointer

Rank 2

DeWalt DCW682NT-XJ 18V biscuit jointer

∼£278

Our view

The DeWalt DCW682NT-XJ at £277.99 is an 18 V XR brushless bare unit with preset depths for sizes 0, 10 and 20, a rack-and-pinion fence, and a mitre fence that stays on. The listing shows 4.8 from 21 reviews, and the listing holds eight short comments, several not from the United Kingdom, so that score rests on a thin sample. The UK lines say it looks right and works, with no fault described, while one French review calls the T-STAK poorer than other DeWalt boxes. The title is cordless and the compatible-devices line names DeWalt 18 V packs, while a technical field also says the power source is ac. The listed weight of 1 kg is what the page prints, and it is not a figure to plan a day’s carrying around. The bullets include a grooving cutter, dust bag, spanner, dust spout and T-STAK, while a second contents line says the bare unit only. It is the clearest trade fence in this set if you already own DeWalt 18 V batteries and you can accept 21 reviews rather than a long UK record.

Pros

  • Preset depths for sizes 0, 10 and 20, plus fine adjustment
  • Rack-and-pinion fence and anti-slide grippers in the bullets
  • Compatible-devices line names DeWalt 18 V packs
  • 4.8 from 21 reviews, with no defect in the short UK lines
  • Two-year manufacturer warranty stated on the listing

Cons

  • £277.99 before a battery and a charger
  • Only eight short reviews on the listing, several not from the United Kingdom
  • Power-source field says ac while the title is an 18 V bare unit
  • Listed weight is 1 kg, and one French review criticises the T-STAK

Best for: You already own DeWalt 18 V XR packs and you want preset biscuit stops rather than a corded machine near £65.

Less suitable: You are buying a first battery system, or you want a review sample in the hundreds before you spend about £278.

Common questions

Is this DeWalt jointer cordless?

The title says an 18 V XR brushless bare unit. The technical field also says power source ac. Those two lines conflict. The compatible-devices line names DeWalt 18 V battery packs.

Does the listing include a carry case?

The bullets include a T-STAK carry case, plus a grooving cutter, dust bag, spanner and dust spout. Another contents line mentions only the bare unit.

Which biscuit sizes are on the depth stops?

The bullets say preset cutting depths for sizes 0, 10 and 20, with fine adjustment.

Einhell TC-BJ 900 biscuit jointer

Rank 3

Einhell TC-BJ 900 biscuit jointer

∼£65

Our view

The Einhell TC-BJ 900, at £65.00, is a 230 V, 860 W plate jointer with a stated maximum depth of 14 mm and a three-stage stop. Across 4,264 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.4, buyers describe acceptable slots for occasional DIY, including a run of about 60 biscuits and size 10 biscuits in 32 mm timber that sat flush. At 3.17 kg it is lighter than the Draper in this set, and several people say it is less tiring than they expected. The fence or base is often not square until you adjust it, and one casting could not be squared at all. The listing includes a case, yet several UK reviews say it was missing, and when a case did arrive it was called cheap, chipped or split. A depth adjuster seized on arrival for one buyer, and a blade smoked on plywood. It is the top pick here for a home socket and a large review sample, with the missing case and the fence as the limits.

Pros

  • 4.4 from 4,264 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • 3.17 kg, with a three-stage depth stop and a stated 14 mm maximum
  • Dust bag and extractor adapter on the contents line
  • Size 10 biscuits in 32 mm timber described as a flush fit
  • Two-year warranty stated on the listing

Cons

  • Case missing in several UK reviews despite the contents line
  • Fence or base not square until adjusted; one casting would not square
  • Depth adjuster seized on one unit
  • Blade smoked on plywood for one buyer

Best for: You want a corded jointer for carcasses a few times a year, and you will check the fence on scrap before the first joint.

Less suitable: You need a stated depth beyond 14 mm, or you are buying it mainly because the photos show a case.

Common questions

Can this Einhell make angled cuts?

The bullets say height and angle are adjustable and the manufacturer block states tilt to 90 degrees. It does not state stops at 45 degrees.

Does the TC-BJ 900 come with a case?

The included-components line lists a case. Several UK reviews say the case was not in the box.

What cutting depth does the listing state?

The item highlight says a maximum routing depth of 14 mm, with a 3-stage quick depth adjustment.

Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li biscuit jointer

Rank 4

Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li biscuit jointer

∼£87

Our view

The Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li Solo at £86.99 is an 18 V Power X-Change body with a stated 20 mm depth, six stages up to size 20, and a 100 mm cutter, spanner and dust bag in the box. The listing’s 419 reviews sit at 4.4, and many of them are not from the United Kingdom, so the star line is not a British-only sample. Reviewers who already own Einhell packs like the lack of a lead, and first cuts in MDF are described as doing the stated job. It weighs 2.58 kg before the battery, and once a pack is fitted several people call it heavy. The height knob moves only one end of the fence, so the other end wobbles until you lock it. A UK review says the dust chamber blocks after about 8–10 slots, and another UK unit did not run on arrival. It suits a shed that already has Power X-Change batteries, not a first 18 V system.

Pros

  • Body only at £86.99 if you already own Power X-Change 18 V
  • Six stages, a stated depth of 20 mm, and a 100 mm cutter in the box
  • 2.58 kg before the battery, lighter than the corded Draper
  • Dust bag and spanner listed, with no case claimed

Cons

  • Battery and charger sold separately
  • Many of the 419 reviews are not from the United Kingdom
  • The height knob moves one end of the fence, which wobbles until locked
  • Dust chamber blocked after about 8–10 slots in one UK review, and one UK unit did not run on arrival

Best for: You already keep Einhell 18 V packs charged and you joint away from a socket.

Less suitable: You need a first battery platform, a case, or a fence that stays put without a second lock.

Common questions

Which battery does this Einhell jointer use?

The listing says one 18 V Power X-Change lithium-ion battery, sold separately, and a charger sold separately.

Does it come with a dust bag?

Yes. Included components list a dust bag, a cutter and a spanner. A case is not listed.

Is the cutter change described as toolless?

The bullets say a spindle lock for cutter changes. A spanner is in the box, so it is not described as fully toolless.

Draper Storm Force 900W biscuit jointer

Rank 5

Draper Storm Force 900W biscuit jointer

∼£61

Our view

Across 281 amazon.co.uk reviews, almost all from the United Kingdom, the Draper Storm Force 83611 at £61.32 cuts biscuit slots on a 230 V lead, with a stated 20 mm depth and a 100 mm TCT blade in the box. Reviewers use it for a first kitchen job and for edge-jointed desk planks, and one preferred that first joint to a dowel jig. It weighs 4.42 kg with a stiff cable, and the push-forward then press-down switch is often loose or awkward. Slots can come out wider or deeper than the biscuit until you square the fence, and one fine-adjustment screw arrived seized so the depth could not be increased. A bent blade on arrival was replaced within two days in one report, and the plastic case is often described as flimsy. It is the best value in this set if you work from a home socket and you will check the first slot on scrap.

Pros

  • 230 V, 900 W, stated depth 20 mm, with a 100 mm TCT blade in the box
  • 4.4 from 281 reviews, almost all from the United Kingdom
  • £61.32, the lowest price in this set
  • One reviewer preferred the first joint to a dowel jig
  • A bent blade was replaced within two days in one report

Cons

  • 4.42 kg, with a stiff cable
  • Switch stiff, loose, or awkward out of the box
  • Slots wider or deeper than the biscuit until the fence is squared
  • Fine-adjustment screw seized on one unit, and a flimsy plastic case

Best for: You joint cabinets a few times a year from a 230 V socket, and you will square the fence on scrap before the real boards.

Less suitable: You want a light tool for a long run, an acute mitre the fence will not reach, or a job away from a mains socket.

Common questions

What is the stated power of this Draper jointer?

The listing says 900 W, 230 V corded, 1.2 horsepower and 3.91 A. Maximum cutting depth is stated as 20 mm.

Does the Draper listing include a dust bag?

Yes. Included components list a dust bag, a 100 mm TCT blade, a hex key, a carrying case and a manual.

Does the listing say it is suitable for hardwood?

The listing asks the question and does not answer it in the bullets. Reviewers describe DIY joinery, not a hardwood rating.

LIVOWALNY 18V biscuit jointer

Rank 6

LIVOWALNY 18V biscuit jointer

∼£72

Our view

The LIVOWALNY listing at £72.29 is an 18 V jointer sold as compatible with Makita packs, with no battery in the box and no review line on the listing. The bullets claim 11,000 rpm, six depth settings and sizes 0, 10 and 20, plus Simplex, Duplex and Max, but they do not state a maximum depth in millimetres. The included-components line says the jointer only, while the bullets also claim a dust bag, an auxiliary module and biscuits, so you cannot tell what will arrive. Compatibility with Makita 18 V batteries is the seller’s claim, not a Makita statement on this page. At 3.13 kg before a pack there is still no UK review pattern for slot width or a square fence, and a best-sellers rank is a sales position rather than a test of the slot. Buy it only if you already own Makita 18 V packs and you accept an unreviewed listing.

Pros

  • £72.29 body-only price if a Makita 18 V pack you own actually fits
  • Six depth settings claimed for sizes 0, 10 and 20
  • Angle stated as 0–90 degrees
  • First listed on 28 February 2026, so the page is new

Cons

  • No star rating and no review text on the listing
  • Contents line and bullets disagree on the bag, the module and the biscuits
  • Makita fit is the seller’s claim only
  • No stated maximum depth in millimetres

Best for: You already run Makita 18 V batteries and you will check the first slot on scrap, with no review history to lean on.

Less suitable: You want a known UK review sample, a battery in the box, or a listing whose contents lines agree.

Common questions

Does this LIVOWALNY jointer include a Makita battery?

No. The listing says batteries are not included and that a battery is required. Compatibility with Makita 18 V packs is the seller’s claim.

Which biscuit sizes does the listing claim?

The bullets say six depth settings for No. 0, No. 10 and No. 20, and also Simplex, Duplex and Max. A maximum depth in millimetres is not stated.

Are biscuits in the box?

The bullets say No. 0, 10 and 20 biscuits are included. The included-components line says only the biscuit joiner. Those two lines conflict.

How we compared

Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the six amazon.co.uk listings, read on 19 October 2026. There is no laboratory test. The score runs from 0 to 100 across stars, the review sample, fit for a true slot, and value in this set. The highest score is the top pick, once. Best value is the highest value-part score, once, and it is not given to the top pick.

1

Stars

40%

Amazon stars divided by 5, then multiplied by 40, and rounded. A listing with no rating line scores 0 on this part.

2

Review sample

25%

1,000 or more reviews score 25, 200 or more score 20, 50 or more score 12, 10 or more score 6, and fewer than 10 score 2. No rating line scores 0. A raw sample that is mostly outside the United Kingdom scores 4. A 200-plus count mixed with non-UK text scores 12. That count is not treated as British opinion.

3

Fit for a true slot

25%

Occasional DIY slots, a stated depth that covers sizes 0, 10 and 20, and a fence you still have to square, score 16. A named 18 V platform with a fence or dust fault in reviews scores 14. Preset stops and a rack-and-pinion fence, with a thin sample and a conflicting power-source field, score 12. A 20V MAX listing that does not say a UK 18 V pack fits scores 8. No reviews and conflicting box contents score 4.

4

Value in this set

10%

The lowest corded price, with 200 or more mostly UK reviews and a blade and case listed, scores 10. A similar corded price with a huge sample but missing-case reviews scores 8. A body-only tool under £90 on a named battery platform scores 6. A low sticker with no reviews and conflicting contents scores 3. About £278 before a battery, on a thin sample, scores 2. A similar bare price whose listing does not confirm a UK pack scores 1.

Biscuit joiner buying guide

Buy the fence and the slot, then the plug or the battery. A biscuit joiner only pays off if both halves of the joint are referenced from the same face and the depth matches the biscuit you will glue. Corded machines in this set sit near £65. Cordless prices are body-only unless the listing says otherwise. Wood dust is an extraction job, and a worktop biscuit is used with adhesive and clamps or bolts.

What is a biscuit joiner?

A biscuit joiner, or plate jointer, cuts a crescent slot. You glue a compressed beech biscuit into that slot so two pieces of timber or board stay flush while the glue cures. In the UK the usual jobs are carcasses, mitres, edge-glued panels, and one part of a kitchen worktop joint. A biscuit is not the structural joint in a chair, a bed rail, or a specified fire door. The biscuits you will actually use are normally No. 0, No. 10 and No. 20. All three are 4 mm thick.

Best for

  • Shed woodworkers jointing cabinets a few times a year from a 230 V socket
  • Fitters who already own the matching 18 V battery platform

Not ideal for

  • Chairs, bed rails or a specified fire door, where a biscuit is not the structural joint
  • A 110 V site lead, or a first battery system bought only for this tool

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Trusting the angle scale

A dial that says 90 degrees is not a check. Reference the fence from the same face on both halves, and square it on scrap. Opposite faces put the slots out of line even when each scale looks right.

  2. 2

A size 20 biscuit in thin stock

No. 0, No. 10 and No. 20 are all 4 mm thick, but the length still has to sit inside the board. A size 20 biscuit in thin stock breaks out. H9 is 3 mm and needs another cutter.

  3. 3

Assuming the box matches the photo

Body-only means no battery and no charger. Several UK reviews of the TC-BJ 900 say the listed case was missing. The LIVOWALNY contents line and bullets disagree. A choked dust bag fills the slot with chips.

What to weigh up

Fence and biscuit depth

High

The first check is the fence. You square it and lock it, and you reference it from the same face on both halves of the joint. A dial that says 90 degrees is not that check. Reviewers of the corded Einhell and the Draper both describe slots that run wide or out of square until the fence is set on scrap, and one Einhell casting would not square at all. Depth stops should cover the biscuits you will use. No. 0, No. 10 and No. 20 are all 4 mm thick. H9 is 3 mm and needs another cutter.

Power, dust and the box

High

UK mains are 230 V and household plugs are BS 1363. The Health and Safety Executive says the nameplate must match the supply. Construction often uses 110 V. Do not put a 230 V jointer on a 110 V site lead. Buy cordless only on a battery platform you already own. Body-only means no battery and no charger. The Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li is Power X-Change at about £86.99. The LIVOWALNY is sold as Makita 18 V compatible at about £72.29, and that fit is the seller’s claim, with no review line.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Occasional carcass work

You joint cabinets a few times a year from a 230 V home socket, and you will square the fence on scrap. The Einhell TC-BJ 900 is the top pick: 860 W, a stated 14 mm maximum, a three-stage stop, and 4.4 from 4,264 reviews at about £65. Several UK reviews say the listed case was missing.

Lowest price on a home socket

You want the lowest shelf price in this set and a 230 V lead. The Draper Storm Force 900W is best value at about £61.32, with a stated 20 mm depth, a 100 mm TCT blade in the box, and 4.4 from 281 mostly UK reviews. It weighs 4.42 kg, and slots can run wide until the fence is squared.

Einhell batteries already owned

You already keep Power X-Change 18 V packs charged and you joint away from a socket. The Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li is body only at about £86.99, with six stages, a stated 20 mm depth and a 100 mm cutter. Many of the 419 reviews are not from the United Kingdom. A battery and charger are extra.

Common questions about biscuit joiners

Which biscuit joiner is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Einhell TC-BJ 900 at about £65. It is a 230 V, 860 W plate jointer with a stated maximum depth of 14 mm and a three-stage stop. On 19 October 2026 the amazon.co.uk listing showed 4.4 from 4,264 reviews, and the score is 84. The fence or base is often not square until you adjust it, and several UK reviews say the listed case was missing. Check the first slot on scrap.
How much does a biscuit joiner cost on amazon.co.uk?
On 19 October 2026 the six amazon.co.uk listings ran from about £61.32 to about £277.99. The Draper Storm Force is about £61.32 and the Einhell TC-BJ 900 is about £65. Body-only cordless tools are about £72.29 for the LIVOWALNY and about £86.99 for the Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li, and neither price includes a battery. The DeWalt DCW682B is about £273.65 and the DCW682NT-XJ is about £277.99, both before a battery. B&Q showed higher shelf prices for some of the same names that day. These figures are a snapshot.
What should you check before you buy a biscuit joiner?
Square and lock the fence, and reference it from the same face on both halves. A scale that reads 90 degrees is not that check. You want depth stops for the biscuits you will use, normally No. 0, No. 10 and No. 20, all 4 mm thick. Match 230 V and a BS 1363 plug to a home socket, or buy cordless only on a battery platform you already own. Read the contents line. Body-only means no battery and no charger.
Should you buy a corded or a cordless biscuit joiner?
Choose a 230 V machine with a BS 1363 plug if you joint at home from a socket. Choose cordless only when you already own the matching packs. The Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li is Power X-Change, body only, at about £86.99. The DeWalt DCW682NT-XJ is an 18 V XR bare unit at about £277.99. The DCW682B listing says 20V MAX and does not say a UK 18 V pack fits. Do not run a 230 V jointer from a 110 V site lead.
Do biscuits replace bolts on a kitchen worktop?
No. A biscuit keeps the two worktop edges flush while adhesive cures. B&Q’s fitting guide uses biscuits with adhesive and clamps or bolts. It does not treat the biscuit as the only fixing, and it does not replace a fitter when the joint is doubtful, especially near a sink. This comparison does not call a biscuit the strongest joint, and it does not quote a pull-test. If you cannot bolt and clamp the joint, call a fitter.
How should you deal with wood dust from a biscuit joiner?
Extract wood dust. Do not sweep it or blow it. The Health and Safety Executive expects at least a class M vacuum for clean-up, and required local exhaust ventilation examined at least every 14 months. WIS23 adds respiratory protection if exposure remains. A dust bag on the jointer is a start. HSE does not describe that bag as approval. For the vacuum side of the same job, see the dust extractor comparison. Employers who put staff on the machine are also in PUWER 1998.
Does the DeWalt 20V MAX listing fit a UK 18 V pack?
The DeWalt DCW682B listing at about £273.65 does not say so. The title says tool only, and the battery line says 20V MAX XR lithium-ion. The 4.8 from 430 reviews is mostly from outside the United Kingdom, so that count is not British opinion. The DCW682NT-XJ is the separate 18 V XR bare unit in this set, at about £277.99. Its compatible-devices line names DeWalt 18 V packs, while a technical field also says the power source is ac.
When is a biscuit the wrong joint?
A biscuit is for alignment while glue cures: carcasses, mitres, edge-glued panels, and part of a worktop joint. It is not the joint you rely on for a chair, a bed rail, or a specified fire door. One Draper reviewer preferred a first kitchen joint to a dowel jig. That is a single report, not a ranking of methods. Sizes 0, 10 and 20 are the usual 4 mm biscuits. H9 is 3 mm and needs another cutter. Skip the dry fit and the slot can sit proud or open.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Einhell TC-BJ 900 at about £65. It scores 84, the highest here: 4.4 from 4,264 reviews, a three-stage stop and a stated 14 mm maximum on a 230 V lead. The fence still needs squaring, and several UK reviews say the listed case was missing. Best value is the Draper Storm Force 900W at about £61.32, the lowest price in the set, with 4.4 from 281 mostly UK reviews, a stated 20 mm depth and a 100 mm blade in the box. It weighs 4.42 kg, and slots can run wide until you square the fence. If you already own a matching battery, a bare cordless unit is the other fork. The DCW682B listing does not say a UK 18 V pack fits.
