Cordless or corded biscuit joiner

Updated: 2026-10-21

You want the lead out of the way on a kitchen fit, and the titles mix 230 V machines with body-only 18 V tools and a 20V MAX page. A cordless biscuit joiner is the right buy only when the battery on your shelf is the one the listing names. A corded jointer is the right buy for a normal UK socket, once you have checked the plug. The [biscuit joiner comparison](/hub/workshop/biscuit-joiner) holds the prices. Products Compared used the amazon.co.uk listings and HSE's note on supply voltage, not a lab, on 19 October 2026. A lead in the shed

In a shed with a 230 V socket, the lead is the power system, not just a nuisance. On 19 October 2026 the Draper Storm Force 83611 was £61.32, 900 W and 230 V, stated depth 20 mm, weight 4.42 kg. The Einhell TC-BJ 900 was £65.00, 860 W and 230 V, stated 14 mm maximum, weight 3.17 kg. Draper reviewers mention a stiff cable. You still clamp the work. HSE says the tool has to match the supply. These listings state 230 V. They do not state a 13 A BS 1363 plug. Look at the pins. A Schuko-only plug is not fixed with a shaved adapter. Forty watts is not the reason to pick one lead. Screwfix listed the Makita PJ7000/2, outside this set, at £229.99 including VAT as 240 V with a plug. That line does not transfer to the Draper or the Einhell.

A 110 V site

Sites often run tools at 110 V through a transformer, and HSE expects the nameplate to match. A 230 V jointer does not become a 110 V tool on a yellow lead. None of these six listings is described as 110 V. Do not invent that version from a colour or from the word site in a review. If the job is on 110 V, you need a nameplate that says so, or a cordless tool on a battery you already carry. If you are employed on site, the voltage sits with the site rules and with PUWER.

Four cordless listings, three platforms

The cordless rows are not one battery at four prices. The Einhell TE-BJ 18 Li Solo at £86.99 is Power X-Change 18 V, body only, stated depth 20 mm, six stages, 2.58 kg before the pack. It runs on Einhell packs, not Makita or DeWalt. A UK review says the dust chamber blocks after about 8 to 10 slots. The LIVOWALNY at £72.29 claims Makita 18 V compatibility. That is the seller's claim, with no review line, and the contents lines conflict. The DeWalt DCW682NT-XJ at £277.99 names DeWalt 18 V packs and presets for sizes 0, 10 and 20. A technical field also says the power source is ac, and the printed weight is 1 kg. Treat that ac line as a conflict. The DCW682B at £273.65 says 20V MAX and does not say a UK 18 V XR pack fits. Who each model suits is on the best biscuit joiner page.

What body only does not include

Body only means no battery and no charger. The cordless Einhell lists a cutter and a dust bag, not a case. The DeWalt 18 V page lists a T-STAK in one line and the bare unit in another. The DCW682B lists a 4 inch blade and two dust ports, and no bag, case or battery. The LIVOWALNY components line says the jointer only, while the bullets claim a bag and biscuits. The corded pair at about £61 to £65 include the means of running them, subject to the plug check. The DeWalt bare units at about £274 to £278 do not. One UK comment on the 20V MAX listing said the price was about £200 more than other sellers. The fence and the 4 mm slot are next, on the buying guide.

Common questions

Should I buy a corded or a cordless biscuit joiner?
Buy corded if the work is at a 230 V socket and you do not already own a matching battery. The Draper at £61.32 and the Einhell TC-BJ 900 at £65 are that pair. Buy cordless only if the listing names packs you already charge, and add the battery price before you call it cheaper. A lead in a small shed is awkward. It is still cheaper than a new 18 V system for a few carcasses a year.
Will a 230 V jointer run on a 110 V site transformer?
Do not plan on it. HSE says the tool must match the supply. These corded listings are 230 V, and this set has no 110 V model. A yellow site lead is for tools whose nameplate says 110 V. On that supply, use a cordless tool on a battery you know fits, or a different jointer whose plate matches.
Which batteries fit the Einhell cordless model?
The TE-BJ 18 Li uses Einhell Power X-Change 18 V packs and a charger, both sold separately. It is not a Makita or DeWalt platform. The 419 reviews at 4.4 include many from outside the UK. One reviewer wanted a larger pack, written as 5 Ah, before the tool felt right. Budget for the pack you will fit, not for the body-only price alone.
Does the LIVOWALNY take my Makita 18 V pack?
The seller says it does. Makita does not say so on this listing, and the raw file has no reviews. The page also disagrees with itself about a dust bag and biscuits. If you try one, cut a scrap slot the same day and return it if the pack will not seat or the kerf is wide. Do not buy a second Makita battery just to test the claim.
Does the DeWalt 20V MAX listing take a UK 18 V XR battery?
The DCW682B page does not say that. It says 20V MAX, tool only, at £273.65. The DCW682NT-XJ at £277.99 is the listing that names DeWalt 18 V packs. Confirm either tool against your packs before you pay. The 430 reviews on the 20V MAX page are mostly from outside the UK, so they do not answer the UK fit question.
What does body only leave me to buy?
A battery and a charger, and sometimes a bag, a case or biscuits. The cordless Einhell lists a cutter and a dust bag, not a case. The 20V MAX DeWalt lists two dust ports and no bag. The LIVOWALNY's contents lines do not match. Add those prices before you compare the sticker with a corded machine at £61 to £65 that runs from the socket, once the plug is a UK one.
