A parasol ground spike is a metal socket you drive, push or screw into turf, soil or sand so a round centre pole stands upright. On a UK lawn or beach it takes the place of a concrete foot. It is not a weighted patio base, and it is not a tent peg. You judge a fit by millimetres. Measure the pole, then read the printed window. A buried length you can believe matters as much as the throat: prefer a centimetre figure on the bullet, and treat a one-centimetre or six-centimetre dimension line as a clash, not a depth. A hammer-in spear and a screw-in auger need soil or turf. A spiral is sold for sand and grass. None of these holds on a patio or a deck. A long steel point can still meet a shallow cable. Search utility maps before you drive a deep spike, and stop if the shade is a cantilever. Type, throat and ground are set out in the [parasol ground spike buying guide](/hub/sun-shades/parasol-ground-spike/sub/parasol-ground-spike-buying-guide).

The best parasol ground spikes in detail

Loopunk galvanised parasol spike

Rank 1

Loopunk galvanised parasol spike

∼£17

Our view

Loopunk lists a galvanised parasol spike at about £16.79 and 790 g. Bullets say an adjustable diameter with no millimetres, fixing screws, a detachable top, and a four-corner hook. The dimension line is 8 × 5 × 2 cm. The star line is 4.5 from 5 reviews. One UK text is a small parasol on grass. The other is about delivery. The score of 61 reflects the missing size bullets. There is no badge.

Pros

  • Galvanised surface is named
  • Hook included for small items
  • Top and anchor detach
  • One UK text for a small parasol on grass

Cons

  • No millimetre range and no length bullet
  • 8 × 5 × 2 cm dimension line
  • Only five reviews, one of them about delivery
  • Beach use not confirmed by the product review

Best for: A small parasol on grass, if you can measure the adjustable throat before you rely on it.

Less suitable: A known 40 mm pole, a beach day, or a buyer who wants a printed diameter.

Common questions

What diameter does the Loopunk spike take?

The bullet says the holder is adjustable for diameter and does not print millimetres. The page asks if it holds large umbrellas and does not answer.

What is in the box?

The bullet says one steel parasol spike and one four-corner hook. It also says the top tube and the ground anchor come apart. A carry bag is asked and not listed.

What did UK reviews say?

One review calls it a good gadget for a small parasol on grass and is unsure about the beach. The other review is about delivery, not the spike. The listing is 4.5 from 5 reviews.

JVL 32–40 mm soil spear

Rank 2

JVL 32–40 mm soil spear

Our view

The JVL 19-180 is a galvanised hammer-in spear at about £6.74, with a plastic adaptor stated for 32–40 mm poles. The listing line is 4.4 from 7,962 reviews. The dimension line is 6 × 5 × 6 cm and 330 g, which is not a buried length. UK texts praise an easy drive into grass and also describe a loose insert, a bent rim, and a spike that stays half proud in hard ground. The score of 83 is that review sample and the shelf price, not a parasol wind test.

Pros

  • Printed 32–40 mm fit with a plastic adaptor
  • Galvanised steel on the bullet
  • Largest review count in this set, 7,962 at 4.4
  • UK texts include a garden parasol and a sun umbrella

Cons

  • 6 × 5 × 6 cm dimension line is not a length
  • Reviews describe a loose 32 mm insert
  • Reviews describe a rim bent by hammering
  • Hard ground left the spike half above the lawn

Best for: A 32 mm or 40 mm rotary-airer pole, with parasol use only where a review already matched that diameter.

Less suitable: A pole outside 32–40 mm, a patio, or a page that needs a printed buried length.

Common questions

What pole size does the JVL spear take?

The bullets say 32–40 mm with the plastic adaptor, for JVL rotary airers. They do not print a parasol range.

How is the JVL spear installed?

The bullet says quick installation into firm ground. Reviews describe hammering, and several say to put a piece of wood on the rim so the top does not bend.

Do UK reviews use it for a parasol?

Yes. Texts in the file call it perfect for a brolly, great for a sun umbrella, and sturdy under a garden parasol. Most of the 7,962 reviews are about washing lines.

DIVCHI 56 cm screw-in spike

Rank 3

DIVCHI 56 cm screw-in spike

∼£11

Our view

DIVCHI Soil Spike_P is a zinc-plated screw-in socket at about £10.99. The bullet says 56 cm and poles from 2.5 cm to 5.5 cm, with three screws and a turn rod. The dimension line says 420 mm and 1.36 kg. The star line is 4.4 from 658 reviews. UK texts describe a firm parasol hold and also stones, a missing rod, a 36 mm measurement, and a thread that came apart. The score of 79 is the highest remaining total under £12.

Pros

  • Bullet range 2.5–5.5 cm and a 56 cm screw
  • Turn rod and three pinch screws named
  • UK reviews describe large parasols
  • Ranked 2 in Parasol stands & bases in the extract

Cons

  • 420 mm dimension line does not match 56 cm
  • One review measured 36 mm inside
  • Hard or stony ground stopped some buyers
  • Missing turn rod or stopper in individual reviews

Best for: A centre-pole parasol or airer whose pole you have measured against 2.5–5.5 cm, in soil that will take a screw.

Less suitable: A patio, a stony bed where reviews already stopped short, or a buyer who needs one length figure with no clash.

Common questions

What pole diameter does the DIVCHI spike claim?

The bullet says 2.5 cm to 5.5 cm. One UK review measured 36 mm inside and said that was not the 40 mm figure they had expected.

How do you fit the DIVCHI spike?

The bullet says to screw it in with the turn rod, then tighten three screws on the pole. Reviews also describe stony ground where it would not finish, and a socket left proud of the lawn.

Is a parasol named on the DIVCHI listing?

Yes. The title and bullets name a garden parasol as well as a rotary dryer. UK reviews mention a large parasol and a 4 m parasol.

Eidoct two-piece umbrella anchor

Rank 4

Eidoct two-piece umbrella anchor

∼£15

Our view

The Eidoct listing is two metal umbrella anchors at about £14.99, with a stated range of 22–35 mm. Package weight is 610 g. The star line is 4.4 from 62 reviews. UK texts include grass at a caravan, a small parasol, a beach day, a throat too small for 4 cm, and plastic parts called weak. The score of 70 has no badge. There is no buried-length bullet.

Pros

  • Printed 22–35 mm range
  • Two pieces at about £14.99
  • UK texts for grass, camping, and a small parasol
  • Ranked 16 in Parasol stands & bases in the extract

Cons

  • A reviewer said 3.5 cm will not take a 4 cm garden umbrella
  • Plastic parts and a short screw criticised
  • One review said sand did not work well
  • No buried length, and hardstanding failed in a review

Best for: A beach or small parasol whose pole is inside 22–35 mm, used on sand or grass.

Less suitable: A 40 mm garden parasol, hardstanding, or a buyer who needs a stated spike length.

Common questions

What poles fit the Eidoct anchor?

The bullet says 22 mm to 35 mm. A UK review measured about 3.5 cm and said a 4 cm garden umbrella would not fit.

Does the listing say it works on grass?

The page asks and does not answer. A UK review says it went into grass on a caravan pitch and would not enter hardstanding.

Is a carry bag included?

The page asks and does not answer. The bullets do not list a bag. The title says two pieces.

JuYue four-spike parasol stand

Rank 5

JuYue four-spike parasol stand

∼£17

Our view

JuYue home-182 is a galvanised four-spike stand at about £16.99. Bullets say 46 cm overall, a 26 cm spike, fastening screws, an adjustable angle, and a detachable design. Weight is 760 g. The star line is 4.4 from 20 reviews. UK texts mention camping, a beach parasol, a collar, and a burr that blocked a 34 mm pole. The score of 67 ties Harrms. Harrms ranks higher because it has 28 reviews against 20.

Pros

  • 46 cm and 26 cm agree with the dimension line
  • Angle adjustment is stated
  • Galvanised steel
  • Detachable, in the bullet

Cons

  • No printed pole diameter
  • A burr blocked a 34 mm pole until it was ground out
  • Carry-bag question is unanswered
  • 20 reviews, and one text is only Disappointing

Best for: A soft lawn or beach, with a pole near the 34–35 mm size a review measured, if you can check the throat yourself.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs a printed millimetre range, or a hard surface.

Can the holder angle change?

The bullet says the angle of the holder to the ground can be adjusted, and that fastening screws tighten the pole. It also says the stand is detachable.

What pole fitted in reviews?

No diameter is printed. One UK review put the opening at about 35 mm, ground out a burr, and then fitted a 34 mm pole. The same review used a table hole with a closed 2.7 m parasol.

GeZu Impex screw-in spike

Rank 6

GeZu Impex screw-in spike

∼£22

Our view

The GeZu Impex title is a hot-dip galvanised screw-in parasol and washing-line spike at about £22.08. The file prints no size bullets. It shows ASIN B08GCDTVMD on the URL and ASIN B0DS1FSLC7 in the body, with 4.3 from 129 reviews. UK texts include a garden parasol and a rotary line, and also a four-spike pack and a 50 mm sleeve. The score of 55 is the lowest here. The specification block is 6 after the missing sizes and the second ASIN. There is no badge.

Pros

  • Title names hot-dip galvanising and a screw-in spike
  • About £22.08 is printed
  • Two UK texts name a garden parasol
  • 129-review line is printed

Cons

  • No height, weight, or pole range
  • A second ASIN is printed in the file
  • Reviews describe four spikes and a 50 mm sleeve as well as a parasol
  • Cover and height questions are unanswered

Best for: Only as a row that shows a hot-dip screw-in title, until the live ASIN is read on its own.

Less suitable: Anyone who needs a pole diameter or a single product story from this file.

Which ASIN is on the page?

The product URL is B08GCDTVMD. The same file also prints ASIN B0DS1FSLC7 next to the 4.3 from 129 review line. Those two identifiers are not resolved here.

Do the reviews describe one product?

Some UK texts praise a parasol or a rotary line. Others mention four spikes with one missing, a 50 mm sleeve, and weak rings. The extract is mixed.

Harrms 43 cm spiral anchor

Rank 7

Harrms 43 cm spiral anchor

∼£16

Our view

Harrms model 51DZ is a black coated spiral at about £15.99. The bullet says 43 cm, three screws, and poles from 2.5 to 5.5 cm. Weight is 930 g. The dimension line is 1 × 1 × 1 cm. The star line is 3.8 from 28 reviews. UK texts include a full beach day, rust on that first beach use, and a stony-lawn limit. The score of 67 is level with JuYue, and the larger review count ranks Harrms first. No badge: it is not under £12.

Pros

  • 43 cm and 2.5–5.5 cm are both on the bullet
  • Three screws and a twist-in install
  • 930 g is listed
  • A UK review held a beach parasol for a day

Cons

  • 1 × 1 × 1 cm dimension line
  • Rust on first beach use in one UK review
  • 3.8 from 28 reviews
  • Stony subsoil named as a limit

Best for: A beach or lawn parasol inside 2.5–5.5 cm, where a coated spiral and a 28-review line are enough.

Less suitable: Salt water if the rust review matters, stony ground, or a buyer who needs the length line to match the dimensions.

One review says it kept a parasol up all day and is a bit heavy. Another says it rusted on first use at the beach. A third says it needs a lawn without a stony subsoil.

Kovvouk 3.6 cm lawn thorn

Rank 8

Kovvouk 3.6 cm lawn thorn

∼£11

Our view

Kovvouk lists a galvanised lawn thorn at about £10.99. Bullets give 35 cm overall, a 21.5 cm anchor, and a 3.6 cm opening. The dimension line is 4 × 10.03 × 2 cm and 360 g. The star line is 3.4 from 3 reviews, and the only UK text says it suited a parasol when camping. The score of 69 sits below the two badge rows. Only one UK review text is in the file.

Pros

  • 3.6 cm maximum is printed
  • 35 cm and 21.5 cm are printed
  • Galvanised finish named
  • Anchor detaches from the stand

Cons

  • Only three reviews, and one UK text
  • 4 × 10.03 × 2 cm clashes with 35 cm
  • No clamp detail beyond the tube
  • Questions on grass, assembly, and rust are unanswered

Best for: A pole at or under 3.6 cm for beach, lawn, or camping, if a three-review line is acceptable.

Less suitable: A pole over 36 mm, or a buyer who wants a large UK review sample.

The listing is 3.4 from 3 reviews. The only UK text says it did the job for a parasol when camping. It names no fault.

How we compared

Scores use the eight amazon.co.uk extracts in this comparison. Prices and star lines are those extracts. There is no laboratory wind test. A missing star line would score 0 on the star block and on the review block. None of these eight is missing a star line. The blocks sum to 100. The highest total is the top pick in this set only. Best value is the highest remaining total among products under £12. One product does not take both. A tie on the total goes to the listing with more amazon.co.uk reviews, which places Harrms above JuYue at 67.

Parasol ground spike buying guide

You are choosing a metal socket for a round centre pole in turf, soil or sand. The eight amazon.co.uk listings in this set run from about £6.74 to about £22.08. A hammer-in spear, a screw-in auger, a beach spiral and a short lawn thorn are the shapes. Tent pegs are not included. The top pick is the JVL spear when a 32–40 mm airer pole is the job and you accept that most of the 7,962 reviews are washing lines.

What is a parasol ground spike?

A parasol ground spike is a metal socket that you drive, push or screw into turf, soil or sand so a round pole stands upright. UK shoppers meet four shapes: a hammer-in spear often sold first for a rotary washing line, a longer screw-in auger, a beach spiral, and a short multi-prong lawn thorn. Tent pegs do not hold a parasol mast, so they are not in this set. There is no laboratory wind test and no British Standard that certifies these spikes. Pole diameter is the first check.

Best for

  • A centre-pole parasol on soil or turf, once you have measured the pole
  • A beach or lawn day with a short pole and a coating the page names

Not ideal for

  • A patio, a deck or hardstanding
  • A cantilever parasol, or a canopy you mean to leave open in strong wind

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying tent pegs from a spike search

Tent pegs do not hold a parasol mast. This comparison keeps sockets with a throat for a round pole and drops pegs.

  2. 2

Trusting a fit with no millimetres

Measure the pole. A review on the 22–35 mm anchor says about 3.5 cm will not take a 4 cm garden umbrella. JuYue and Loopunk print no millimetre range.

  3. 3

Believing a 1 cm or 6 cm dimension line

Prefer the centimetre bullet. A 6 × 5 × 6 cm line is not a buried length. A 1 × 1 × 1 cm line does not match a 43 cm bullet. Hammer a bare rim and reviews say the top bends. Put a wood block on it.

What to weigh up

Pole diameter and ground

High

Measure the pole, then match a printed window. In this set those windows are 22–35 mm, up to 3.6 cm, 32–40 mm with a plastic adaptor, and 2.5–5.5 cm. A UK review says about 3.5 cm is too small for a 4 cm garden umbrella. Another opening was put nearer 35 mm than 36 mm. A spear or an auger needs soil or turf. A spiral is sold for sand and grass. None of these is a patio base, and hardstanding stopped one beach anchor. If the shade is a cantilever, a single lawn spike does not replace the foot.

Length, clamp and sample

High

Prefer a centimetre bullet and record a clash with the dimension line. 46 cm overall with a 26 cm spike can agree with the dimension line. 56 cm against 420 mm, 43 cm against 1 × 1 × 1 cm, and 35 cm against a 4 cm pack line do not. A 6 × 5 × 6 cm line is not a length. Plastic adaptors and pinch screws stop the pole rocking. A review count in the thousands can be mostly airers. Three, five or twenty reviews do not outrank that on stars alone. A file that prints a second ASIN is a dirty extract.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

An airer socket that sometimes holds a parasol

You already use a 32 mm or 40 mm rotary-airer pole, and a parasol only if that diameter matches. The JVL 32–40 mm soil spear is the top pick at about £6.74, with 4.4 from 7,962 reviews. Most of those reviews are washing lines. UK texts also name a garden parasol, a loose insert and a rim bent by hammering.

A centre pole in soil, without concrete

You have measured the pole against 2.5–5.5 cm and the soil will take a screw. The DIVCHI 56 cm screw-in spike is best value at about £10.99, with 4.4 from 658 reviews, a turn rod and three screws. One review measured 36 mm inside. The bullet says 56 cm and the dimension line says 420 mm.

A beach day with a short pole

You can carry a spiral and you expect salt to attack a thin coating. The Harrms 43 cm spiral anchor is about £15.99, with a printed 2.5–5.5 cm window and 3.8 from 28 reviews. One UK text held a parasol for a beach day. Another says it rusted on that first beach use. The dimension line is 1 × 1 × 1 cm.

Common questions about parasol ground spikes

What is the top parasol ground spike in this comparison?
The top pick is the JVL 32–40 mm soil spear at about £6.74. It scores 83, the highest total in this set: 4.4 from 7,962 reviews, a galvanised hammer-in spear and a plastic adaptor. The specification block is only 15, because 6 × 5 × 6 cm is not a buried length. Most of those reviews are washing lines. UK texts do name a garden parasol, and they also describe a loose insert and a rim bent by hammering. This is not a wind test.
Which parasol ground spike is best value?
Best value is the DIVCHI 56 cm screw-in spike at about £10.99. It scores 79, the highest remaining total under £12. The bullet prints 2.5–5.5 cm, a 56 cm screw, a turn rod and three screws. The review block is cut because one buyer measured 36 mm inside and some orders arrived without the rod. The dimension line says 420 mm, which does not match 56 cm. It is not the same row as the top pick.
How much does a parasol ground spike cost?
Prices in the stored extracts run from about £6.74 to about £22.08. Under about £8 is the JVL spear. About £10.99 is DIVCHI and Kovvouk. About £14.99 to £16.99 covers Eidoct, Harrms, Loopunk and JuYue. GeZu is about £22.08. The cheap end is the heavily reviewed airer spear. Beach anchors and short thorns sit in the mid-teens. The dearest row is a hot-dip title whose file also prints a second ASIN.
What pole size should I measure?
Measure the pole in millimetres before you buy. Printed windows here are 22–35 mm on Eidoct, up to 3.6 cm on Kovvouk, 32–40 mm with a plastic adaptor on JVL, and 2.5–5.5 cm on DIVCHI and Harrms. JuYue and Loopunk print no millimetres. A review on Eidoct says about 3.5 cm will not take a 4 cm garden umbrella. A JuYue review put the opening nearer 35 mm. A line that says it fits most, with no millimetres, is not a size.
Will a ground spike work on a patio?
No. A spear or an auger needs soil or turf. A spiral is sold for sand and grass. None of these listings is a patio base, and a review could not get the Eidoct anchor into hardstanding. A deck or a slab needs a foot you can weight. That is a different product, covered in the parasol base comparison. A single lawn spike also does not replace a cantilever foot.
Is there a wind-speed rating for these spikes?
No listing in this set has a wind-speed rating, and there is no laboratory wind test. BS EN 581-3 covers outdoor tables. A published 2017 copy shows a 30 N test for tables designed to support a parasol. That is not a spike class, and a table hole is not a base. The Met Office says to secure or bring in garden furniture before strong wind and gives no parasol speed. Do not leave a canopy open because a bullet says strong winds.
What should I check before I drive a spike into the lawn?
Search utility maps before you drive a long steel point. LSBUD is a free search of maps from more than 160 asset owners. HSE CIS65 says to get service plans and to keep power tools off a suspected cable route. A garden spike is not a construction job, but it can still hit a shallow cable. Call 105 for an electricity emergency. Stop if the only route is through a structural deck. Hammer a spear through a wood block so the rim does not bend.

Our verdict

The top pick is the JVL 32–40 mm soil spear at about £6.74. It scores 83, the highest total here: 4.4 from 7,962 reviews, a galvanised hammer-in spear and a plastic adaptor for 32–40 mm. The specification block is only 15, because 6 × 5 × 6 cm is not a buried length. JVL leads on the review sample and the shelf price, not because a parasol wind test exists. Most of those reviews are washing lines. UK texts name a garden parasol and a sun umbrella, and they also describe a loose insert, a bent rim, and a spike left half proud in hard ground. Best value is the DIVCHI 56 cm screw-in spike at about £10.99. It scores 79, the highest remaining total under £12: a printed 2.5–5.5 cm window and a 56 cm bullet, with the review block cut for a 36 mm measurement and missing parts. The dimension line says 420 mm.
