Mobile sawmill comparison 2026

The best mobile sawmills, compared.

Top pick: XSLOER 36 inch chainsaw mill Best value: Zozen 36–92 cm chainsaw mill – Highest score under £80 with at least 50 reviews: 86 at about £69.99, with 4.5 from 337 reviews. Updated October 2026.

It is not a trailer sawmill, and the box does not contain a saw. Buyers are small woodland owners, arborists and home woodworkers. The title “portable sawmill” is used for a horizontal planking frame and for a vertical jig of about 1.5–2.5 kg, and those are different tools. Judge a listing by the mill type, the bar it really fits, and whether anyone in Britain has reviewed it. Type, bar and budget are set out in the [mobile sawmill buying guide](/hub/power-saws/mobile-sawmill/sub/mobile-sawmill-buying-guide). The same card’s weight and size rows contradict that length, so this page does not treat those rows as the mill. Naroote and do not state a bar length or a board thickness. Useful width is shorter than the title bar. Brian’s of Risborough, on the Granberg MKIV, is the dealer page behind a loss of about 2–4 inches to the saw body, the clamps and the nose roller. These frames do not state a minimum saw. A typical listing does not state a UKCA or CE mark. CE marking remains recognised in Britain alongside UKCA. That is not a test of these frames.

It is not a trailer sawmill, and the box does not contain a saw. Buyers are small woodland owners, arborists and home woodworkers.

The best mobile sawmills in detail

XSLOER 36 inch chainsaw mill

Rank 1

XSLOER 36 inch chainsaw mill

∼£125

Our view

The XSLOER 36 inch listing asks £124.70 for a horizontal frame that states a 14–36 inch bar, a 36 inch width and slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches, at 7.82 kg. Amazon.co.uk shows 5.0 from 1 review, and there is no review text, so that star is not a sample you can read. The package line lists the mill, an assembly-tool set and a manual, and not a chainsaw. The power row says petrol and 550 watts, which conflicts with a clamp-on frame and is not treated as a motor. Dimensions are not stated. At 70/100 the stated bar window keeps it with the horizontal frames, and the single rating keeps it off either award. You would be paying more than either Zozen for a specification nobody on this card has described in a review.

Pros

  • States a 14–36 inch bar and slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches
  • Lists a 36 inch width and 7.82 kg
  • Names a manual and an assembly-tool set

Cons

  • 5.0 from 1 review, with no review text
  • £124.70, above both reviewed Zozen frames
  • Power row says petrol and 550 watts on a frame
  • Dimensions are not stated

Best for: Only if you specifically want this card’s 36 inch width line and can accept a single rating.

Less suitable: Anyone who wants review text before spending more than either Zozen.

Common questions

Does the XSLOER mill include a chainsaw?

No. The bullets say it clamps to a 14–36 inch bar with no drilling, and the package line lists the mill, an assembly-tool set and a manual.

What cut does the XSLOER listing state?

Thickness from 1/2 inch to 12 inches and a width of 36 inches. Listed weight is 7.82 kg. Dimensions are not stated.

How many reviews does the listing show?

The star line is 5.0 from 1 review. There is no review text.

Zozen 36–92 cm chainsaw mill

Rank 2

Zozen 36–92 cm chainsaw mill

∼£70

Our view

The Zozen 36–92 cm listing is a horizontal frame at £69.99, stated for bars from 36 cm to 92 cm and slabs from 1.25 cm to 31 cm, at 8 kg. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.5 from 337 reviews. In the first 50 review texts, 14 are marked United Kingdom, and they call the frame solid once it is built and fiddly to assemble. One UK review says a 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar. The bullets say the spliced frame can be built in three sizes, and that longer splicing parts are a separate purchase. Four felling wedges are named, and the chainsaw is not in the box. The power row that says corded electric is not a motor on the mill, and one unused unit was called flimsy. At 86/100 it is the best value in this set: the highest score under £80 with more than 50 reviews, on a different card from the £89.45 zozen.

Pros

  • £69.99 with 4.5 from 337 reviews
  • States 36–92 cm bars and 1.25–31 cm slabs
  • Spliced frame the listing says builds in three sizes
  • 14 of the first 50 review texts are marked United Kingdom

Cons

  • UK reviews call assembly fiddly
  • A 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar in one UK review
  • Longer splicing parts are a separate purchase
  • One unused unit was called flimsy

Best for: A few slabs from a saw you already own, when £69.99 matters more than the larger review file.

Less suitable: A buyer who wants one fixed length with no extra splicing parts, or who will mill often enough to look at a Granberg.

Common questions

Does the Zozen 36–92 cm mill include a chainsaw?

No. It is a frame. The bullets say it suits bars from 36 cm to 92 cm and slabs from 1.25 cm to 31 cm, and they name four felling wedges.

Can this Zozen frame be built in more than one length?

The bullets say the spliced frame can be assembled into three sizes. They also say longer splicing parts are a separate purchase.

What do the reviews say about setup?

The star line is 4.5 from 337. In the first 50 texts, UK reviewers call it solid once built and fiddly to assemble. One UK review says a 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar.

zozen 14–36 inch chainsaw mill

Rank 3

zozen 14–36 inch chainsaw mill

∼£89

Our view

The zozen 14–36 inch listing is a horizontal planking frame at £89.45, for a bar from 14 to 36 inches and slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches, at a stated 8.16 kg. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.4 from 1,129 reviews, the largest sample in this set, though only 4 of the first 50 review texts are marked United Kingdom. Those UK notes mention a strong frame and straightforward assembly, and one unit arrived missing a handle and a screw. The bullets name four felling wedges and do not include a chainsaw. The power row says manual and 0.73 horsepower, which is not a motor in the box. A useful width is shorter than the title bar: this card does not print that loss, and a UK review of the other Zozen, with a 16 inch bar, reported about 12 inches of cutting bar left. At 89/100 it is the top pick here because the bar window, the slab range and the review count line up. That score is not a lab test.

Pros

  • States a 14–36 inch bar and slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches
  • 4.4 from 1,129 amazon.co.uk reviews
  • Four felling wedges named in the bullets
  • Listed at 8.16 kg in aluminium alloy and steel

Cons

  • Chainsaw not included
  • Only 4 of the first 50 review texts are marked United Kingdom
  • One unit missing a handle and a screw
  • Power row is not a motor

Best for: A first horizontal frame when your bar is inside 14–36 inches and you want the largest review file in this set.

Less suitable: A narrow 2–6 inch board, or regular milling where a Granberg is the next spend.

Common questions

Does the zozen 14–36 inch mill include a chainsaw?

No. The listing is a clamp-on frame. The bullets name four felling wedges and say the mill suits a 14–36 inch bar.

What slab thickness does this zozen listing state?

The bullets state slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches, on a bar from 14 to 36 inches. Listed weight is 8.16 kg.

Are UK reviews the bulk of the 1,129 ratings?

The star line is 4.4 from 1,129. In the first 50 review texts, 4 are marked United Kingdom. Those mention a strong frame, easy assembly, and one unit missing a handle and a screw.

AGS vertical chainsaw jig

Rank 4

AGS vertical chainsaw jig

∼£28

Our view

The AGS listing is a vertical steel jig at £27.78 and 2.49 kg, not a wide planking frame. It claims any size bar and does not state a slab thickness. Amazon.co.uk shows 3.3 from 13 reviews. Of five review texts, four are marked United Kingdom. They describe a cut that binds, clamp metal that bent, and one toolbox jig used for fencing rails after the clamp was modified. The chainsaw is not included. At 53/100 it is the only mini guide in this set with review text, and that text is why it is not a slab mill. A stated 2–6 inch board is closer to the Tomedny’s title, which itself has no reviews.

Pros

  • £27.78 and a listed 2.49 kg
  • The only mini guide here with review text
  • A steel jig for a saw you already own

Cons

  • UK reviews describe a cut that binds and a clamp that bent
  • No stated slab thickness
  • “Any size” bar is a claim without a measurement
  • 3.3 from 13 reviews

Best for: A narrow trial cut, if you have read the UK reports of bind and a bent clamp.

Less suitable: Slabs, or any job that needs a stated thickness and a horizontal rail.

Common questions

Is the AGS listing a wide planking mill?

No. The title says a vertical-cut attachment. It claims any size bar and does not state a slab thickness. Listed weight is 2.49 kg.

Does it include a chainsaw?

No. It is a steel jig for a petrol or electric chainsaw, as the bullets word it.

What do the UK reviews say?

The star line is 3.3 from 13. Of five review texts, four are UK. They describe a cut that binds, clamp metal that bent, and one toolbox jig used for fencing rails after the clamp was modified.

Alpha Forestry 14–36 inch mill

Rank 5

Alpha Forestry 14–36 inch mill

∼£110

Our view

The Alpha Forestry 14–36 inch listing is a horizontal frame at £110.15. The bullets state a bar from 14 to 36 inches, a cut from 0.5 inch to 13 inches thick and 36 inches wide, at 7.5 kg. The title says stainless steel and aluminium. The brand field says Generic, and a seller note says it is an international listing whose instructions may differ. The listing has no customer-reviews line and no review text, so the 31/100 score is not a star rating. Assembly tools are named, and the chainsaw is not in the box. You are being asked to trust a capacity line that nobody on the listing has described using.

Pros

  • States 14–36 inch bars and a cut from 0.5 inch to 13 inches thick
  • States a 36 inch width and 7.5 kg
  • Names assembly tools

Cons

  • No star line and no review text
  • Brand field says Generic against the Alpha Forestry title
  • £110.15 with less evidence than either Zozen
  • Seller note: international listing; instructions may differ

Best for: A shopper who wants the 13 inch thickness line in writing and can wait for reviews that are not on the listing.

Less suitable: A first mill you want other buyers on amazon.co.uk to have described.

What capacity does the listing state?

Cutting from 0.5 inch to 13 inches thick and 36 inches wide. Listed weight is 7.5 kg. The brand field says Generic.

Is there a star rating on the listing?

No. The listing has no customer-reviews line and no review text.

YXINAER chainsaw mill

Rank 6

YXINAER chainsaw mill

∼£252

Our view

The YXINAER title says a 48 inch planking mill, with 20, 24, 36 and 48 inch named, at £252.27. The specification rows on the same card say 500 g and 10 × 10 × 10 mm. Those figures cannot both describe a 48 inch frame, and this score does not treat the 500 g row as the mill. The listing has no review line and no review text. The bullets say the mill attaches to a chainsaw bar, and the chainsaw is not included. At 28/100 the title is scored as a horizontal claim and the value is marked down because the spec fights itself. Until the listing agrees with itself, there is no bar window you can plan a log around.

Pros

  • The title names 20, 24, 36 and 48 inch
  • The bullets describe a bar attachment, not a saw in the box
  • Country of origin row says China

Cons

  • Weight and size rows contradict a 48 inch mill
  • £252.27 with no review text
  • No stated slab thickness
  • The listing does not resolve the conflict

Best for: No one, until the weight and size rows stop contradicting the 48 inch title.

Less suitable: Any buyer who needs a weight and a cut you can check before paying.

Common questions

What size is the YXINAER mill?

The title says 48 inch, with 20, 24, 36 and 48 inch named. The specification rows say 500 g and 10 × 10 × 10 mm. Those figures conflict. The listing does not resolve them, and the 500 g row is not treated as the mill.

Does it include a chainsaw?

No. The bullets say the mill attaches to a chainsaw bar.

Is there a star rating?

No. The listing has no customer-reviews line and no review text.

Tomedny 2–6 inch chainsaw guide

Rank 7

Tomedny 2–6 inch chainsaw guide

∼£24

Our view

The Tomedny guide is a vertical steel bracket at £24.49 for boards the title says are 2–6 inches wide. The card states 21 × 21 × 7 cm and 1.69 kg. Amazon.co.uk has no review line, so the 23/100 score is a listing score, not a star rating. The included-components line says no, while the bullets mention a small wrench. The power row says AC/DC, which is not a motor in a 1.69 kg guide. It claims to fit most common saws and does not print a bar length. Against the horizontal frames at about 8 kg, this is a narrow guide, and the 2–6 inch line is the only width you can cite.

Pros

  • States 2–6 inch boards
  • £24.49, with a listed 1.69 kg in steel
  • Dimensions given as 21 × 21 × 7 cm

Cons

  • No review line
  • No bar length printed
  • Included-components line says no, while a wrench is mentioned
  • Not a slab frame

Best for: A 2–6 inch board if you already own the saw and can accept a card with no review text.

Less suitable: Wide slabs, or a job that needs a stated bar window.

The title and bullets say 2–6 inch boards. Listed size is 21 × 21 × 7 cm and 1.69 kg.

No. The included-components line says no. The bullets mention a small wrench and say it mounts without drill pipes.

Is there a star rating?

No. The listing has no customer-reviews line and no review text.

Naroote mini chainsaw guide

Rank 8

Naroote mini chainsaw guide

∼£30

Our view

The Naroote listing is an orange mini guide at £30.24, with a stated size of 20 × 20 × 6 cm and 1.69 kg. It does not state a bar length or a board width. The included-components line says no, and the bullets describe a chainsaw guide for small jobs rather than a planking frame. There is no review line and no review text, so 23/100 is not a star rating. The power row says AC/DC on a guide that does not include a saw. You cannot tell from the card whether a 16 inch bar, or a 2 inch board, is what it was built for. At this price the Tomedny at least prints 2–6 inches, and the AGS at least has UK reviews, neither of which this card has.

Pros

  • States 20 × 20 × 6 cm and 1.69 kg
  • £30.24 for a guide you carry with your own saw
  • Bullets describe small jobs rather than a wide slab

Cons

  • No bar length and no board width
  • No review text
  • Included-components line says no
  • Nothing on the listing confirms it as a planking mill

Best for: A pocket guide only if you can check the bar fit yourself before you rely on it.

Less suitable: Any slab, or a buyer who wants a stated width.

No. The included-components line says no. The bullets describe a chainsaw guide for small jobs.

Is there a star rating?

No. The listing has no customer-reviews line and no review text.

Zisemeil chainsaw guide

Rank 9

Zisemeil chainsaw guide

∼£31

Our view

The Zisemeil guide is listed at £31.19, in alloy steel and aluminium, at 23 × 23 × 8 cm and 1.53 kg. The bullets name a screw, a nut and a wrench, and say it installs on a saw without a drill rod. They do not state a bar length or a board thickness. The listing has no review line, so 23/100 is not a star rating. It sits with the other unreviewed mini guides, below the AGS jig that at least has 13 ratings. The chainsaw is not in the box. A horizontal frame in this set weighs about 7.5–8.2 kg and states a slab range. This card states neither a slab nor a bar, and £31.19 does not buy the review file on the £69.99 Zozen.

Pros

  • Names alloy steel and aluminium
  • States 23 × 23 × 8 cm and 1.53 kg
  • Names a screw, a nut and a wrench

Cons

  • No bar length and no board thickness
  • No review text
  • Chainsaw not included
  • Higher sticker than the Tomedny, with no reviews either

Best for: A small guide if the stated 23 cm body is a size you can check in the hand.

Less suitable: Planking, or any purchase where review text matters more than a low sticker.

How we compared

Scores use the amazon.co.uk listings for these nine ASINs and the review notes already on the cards. This is not a lab test. None of the nine listings states a UKCA or CE mark. A clamp-on frame is still machinery if you supply it. CE marking remains recognised in Great Britain alongside UKCA. At work, PUWER 1998 applies. This is not legal advice. On the cards the points are capped at 40 for stars, 25 for the review sample, 22 for fit and 9 for price, which is 96 points. The weights below are those caps scaled so they sum to 100. The highest score is the top pick. Best value is the highest score under £80 with at least 50 reviews.

1

Amazon stars

42%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk. On the card a 5.0 scores 40 even from one review, a 4.5 scores 36, a 4.4 scores 35, a 3.3 scores 26, and no star line scores 0. The weight is that 40-point cap scaled to this share.

2

Review sample

26%

Review count on the listing. The 1,129-review zozen takes 25 on the card, the 337-review Zozen takes 20, the AGS file of 13 takes 6, and one review or no review line takes 2. The weight is that 25-point cap scaled to this share.

3

Fit

23%

A horizontal frame with a stated bar window scores 22 on the card. A mini guide scores 12. The YXINAER title is scored as a horizontal claim at 22 even though the weight and size rows contradict it. The weight is that 22-point cap scaled to this share.

4

Value

9%

Shelf price in GBP. Guides around £25–£32 score 9 on the card, the £69.99 Zozen scores 8, the £89.45 zozen and the £110.15 Alpha score 7, the £124.70 XSLOER scores 6, and the £252.27 title scores 4. The weight is that 9-point cap scaled to this share.

Mobile sawmill buying guide

A mobile sawmill comparison starts with the mill type, not the word sawmill in the title. The nine amazon.co.uk listings here mix horizontal planking frames at about £69.99–£124.70 with mini guides at about £24.49–£31.19, plus one £252.27 title whose weight and size rows contradict the length. Prices are the shelf figures from 20 October 2026. The top pick is the zozen 14–36 inch frame when you want the largest review file.

What is a mobile sawmill?

A mobile sawmill in this amazon.co.uk set is a clamp-on chainsaw mill. The chainsaw is not in the box. A horizontal frame is for slabs. A vertical jig of about 1.5–2.5 kg is for a narrow board or a trial. The title “portable sawmill” is used for both, so the mill type is the first check, then the bar the listing actually fits, then the price.

Best for

  • Home woodworkers with a petrol saw and a few logs to turn into boards
  • A small woodland owner who will check the England felling allowance before buying a frame

Not ideal for

  • Regular milling or valuable hardwood, where a rail mill or a bandsaw is the next step
  • Anyone who needs a chainsaw in the box, or a slab from a mini guide

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Buying the title, not the type

Portable sawmill is used for an 8 kg horizontal frame and for a 1.5–2.5 kg vertical jig. A bracket does not cut a slab. Read the mill type and the weight before the price.

  2. 2

Treating the title bar as the slab width

Brian’s of Risborough notes about 2–4 inches lost to the saw body, the clamps and the nose roller on a Granberg-style frame. A UK review of the £69.99 Zozen said a 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar.

  3. 3

Reading the power row as a motor

Corded, petrol, battery and horsepower lines sit on clamp-on frames and guides. None of these nine listings includes a chainsaw. The XSLOER power row says petrol and 550 watts, which is not a motor in the box.

What to weigh up

Type, bar and the saw you bolt on

High

A horizontal planking frame cuts slabs. A vertical jig is for a narrow board or a trial. In this set the frames that state a window sit at about £69.99–£124.70 and name a bar around 14–36 inches, which is 36–92 cm. The zozen states slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches. The Zozen states slabs from 1.25 cm to 31 cm. Useful width is shorter than that bar. These Amazon frames do not state a minimum saw. Logosol asks for at least 5.3 kW on its F3 rail mill, a different machine listed at £1,500.

Stiffness, fasteners and evidence

High

UK reviews praise extruded aluminium once a frame is built, and they also report fiddly assembly, missing small parts and loose bolts. The £69.99 Zozen is the card where UK reviewers call setup fiddly and the built frame solid. The £89.45 zozen has the larger star sample, with four United Kingdom texts in the first 50. The AGS jig is the only mini guide with review text, and that text describes bind and a bent clamp. A 5.0 from one review, on the XSLOER, is not a sample you can read.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

A few slabs from your own saw

You already own a petrol chainsaw and you want boards from a few logs, not a trailer. The Zozen 36–92 cm frame is best value at about £69.99: bars from 36 cm to 92 cm, slabs from 1.25 cm to 31 cm, and 4.5 from 337 reviews. UK reviews call assembly fiddly, and a 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar in one of them.

The largest review file

You want the horizontal frame with the most amazon.co.uk reviews before you pay. The zozen 14–36 inch mill is the top pick at about £89.45, with 4.4 from 1,129 reviews, slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches and four felling wedges named. Only four of the first 50 review texts are marked United Kingdom. The chainsaw is not in the box.

A narrow board, not a slab

You want a 2–6 inch board, not a wide slab. The Tomedny guide states that width at about £24.49 and 1.69 kg, and the listing has no review line. The AGS jig is the only mini guide here with review text, and those UK reviews describe bind and a bent clamp. Neither is a planking frame.

Common questions about mobile sawmills

Which mobile sawmill is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the zozen 14–36 inch frame at about £89.45. It scores 89, the highest of these nine. The listing states a horizontal frame, a 14–36 inch bar and slabs from 1/2 inch to 12 inches, at 8.16 kg. On amazon.co.uk it shows 4.4 from 1,129 reviews. Four of the first 50 review texts are marked United Kingdom. The chainsaw is not included. That score is not a lab test.
Which listing is best value?
Best value is the Zozen 36–92 cm frame at about £69.99. It scores 86, the highest score under £80 with at least 50 reviews. The listing states bars from 36 cm to 92 cm and slabs from 1.25 cm to 31 cm, at 8 kg, with 4.5 from 337 reviews. UK reviews in that sample call it solid once built and fiddly to assemble. One review says a 16 inch bar left about 12 inches of cutting bar. Longer splicing parts are a separate purchase.
Does a mobile sawmill include a chainsaw?
No. Every listing in this set is a clamp-on frame or a small guide. The zozen and Zozen bullets name four felling wedges and do not include a saw. The XSLOER package line lists the mill, an assembly-tool set and a manual. The Tomedny included-components line says no. A power row that says corded, petrol, battery or a horsepower figure is not a motor in the box.
How much of the bar can you actually use?
Less than the title bar. Brian’s of Risborough, writing about the Granberg MKIV, is the dealer note behind a loss of about 2–4 inches to the saw body, the clamps and the nose roller. That is a rule of thumb for this kind of frame, not a measurement of these nine cards. A UK review of the £69.99 Zozen, using a 16 inch bar, reported about 12 inches of cutting bar left. Plan the slab from that remaining length, not from the title.
Do you need a felling licence in England?
A mill does not license the felling. In England, felling growing trees needs a Forestry Commission licence unless an exception applies. GOV.UK states a personal allowance of 5 cubic metres a calendar quarter, and no more than 2 cubic metres of that may be sold. The usual diameter is 8 cm over bark at 1.3 m, or 15 cm for coppice. Gardens, orchards, churchyards, public open space, and topping or lopping, are among the exceptions. Scotland and Wales have their own forestry authorities. This is not legal advice.
Is a mini guide the same as a planking frame?
No. The horizontal frames here weigh about 7.5–8.2 kg and state a slab range. The mini guides weigh 1.53–2.49 kg. The Tomedny title says 2–6 inch boards and has no review line. The AGS jig is the only mini guide with review text, at 3.3 from 13, and UK reviews describe bind and a bent clamp. Naroote and Zisemeil do not state a bar length or a board thickness. A low sticker does not turn a bracket into a slab mill.
When is a bandsaw the next machine?
When you mill often, or the timber is valuable hardwood, a chainsaw frame is the slow option. A rail mill or a bandsaw is the next step. Logosol’s F3 rail mill is listed at £1,500 and asks for at least 5.3 kW. A Granberg MKIV from Brian’s of Risborough is listed at £344.52–£453.60. The Chilterns note on on-site sawmilling contrasts a chainsaw mill with a bandsaw. Benchtop bandsaws, not trailer mills, are on the bandsaw comparison. None of these nine listings is a bandsaw.
Why is the 48 inch title not an award?
The YXINAER title says 48 inch, and also names 20, 24, 36 and 48 inch, at about £252.27. The specification rows on the same card say 500 g and a 10 mm cube. Those figures cannot both describe a 48 inch frame, and this page does not treat the 500 g row as the mill. There is no review line. The score is 28. Until the listing agrees with itself, there is no bar window you can plan a log around.
