The best Handsaws, compared.

Top pick: Spear & Jackson Predator triple pack Best value: Draper Venom 80874 second-fix saw – Lowest shelf price at about £6.50, with 4.5 from 832 reviews, for a 350 mm second-fix saw. Updated October 2026.

A handsaw, on amazon.co.uk, is a hand-powered saw with an open blade and no motor. You judge one by tooth pitch, blade length, stiffness and whether the listing rows agree with the title. Ignore rpm, battery and AC rows on a manual saw. A reciprocating saw, two hacksaws, a pull saw and a folding pruning saw were removed before scoring. Length, pitch and hardpoint life are set out in the [handsaw buying guide](/hub/power-saws/handsaw/sub/handsaw-buying-guide). Most listings are western push saws: a blade of about 350 mm or 550 mm, a plastic or handle, and impulse-hardened teeth you do not sharpen at home.

The best Handsaws in detail

Spear & Jackson Predator triple pack

Rank 1

Spear & Jackson Predator triple pack

∼£29

Our view

The triple pack lists three B9822 Predator saws for £28.95 with 4.8 from 30 reviews, far fewer texts than the single ASIN at 2,085. The bullets describe three 22 inch, 8 points per inch universal saws, and the pack is listed at 1.37 kg. Stocking a van, a shared workshop, or a spare when a hardpoint dulls is the practical reason to buy three at once. At £28.95 the unit price is about £9.65 if you use all three, against £10.79 for the single on the same shelf date. One UK review mentions blades bending after heavy use and a second pack feeling less sharp. Amazon places this ASIN in Fine Cut Saws, which is browse placement only, because the title still describes universal 8 ppi panel saws. Buy it when you know you need three identical 8 ppi panel saws.

Pros

  • Three identical B9822 saws
  • Repeat buyers of the Predator line
  • Unit price can beat three singles

Cons

  • Only 30 reviews on the pack ASIN
  • One report of a bend after heavy use
  • No tooth protector
  • More than you need for one DIY shelf project

Best for: Teams or households that get through hardpoint saws.

Less suitable: A buyer who needs one saw only.

Common questions

Is each saw the same as the single Predator?

The bullets state a pack of three B9822 universal saws with the same 22 inch, 8 points per inch description as ASIN B001E19U8C.

Is the triple pack cheaper per saw?

At £28.95 the unit price is about £9.65 if all three are used. Compare that with the single ASIN price on the day you buy.

Why does Amazon file it under fine-cut saws?

That is browse placement only. The title still describes universal 8 ppi panel saws.

Spear & Jackson Predator B9822

Rank 2

Spear & Jackson Predator B9822

∼£11

Our view

Spear & Jackson’s B9822 Predator is £10.79 with 4.7 from 2,085 reviews and a strong rank in amazon.co.uk Handsaws. It is the mass-market universal panel saw in this batch: 8 points per inch, a rigid-blade claim and a Suregrip handle. Reviews cover decking, logs and household timber. The amazon price is sometimes above local shop prices mentioned in reviews. It is the default 550 mm pick if the Bahco price is too high. It does not take the top badge, because the Bahco scores higher on stiffness themes and includes a tooth protector.

Pros

  • Very large review count on amazon.co.uk
  • 8 ppi general timber pitch
  • 45° and 90° moulded guides
  • Rigid blade claim in the bullets

Cons

  • Higher amazon price than some high-street shops
  • Hardpoint teeth are not sharpenable
  • Listing rpm and battery rows are noise
  • Chipboard dulls hardpoint teeth quickly

Best for: A first 550 mm handsaw for DIY, decking and general timber.

Less suitable: Visible second-fix work where a 350 mm saw at 12–15 TPI is easier.

Common questions

Is the Predator a fine-tooth trim saw?

The title states 8 points per inch on a 22 inch blade. That is a general universal pitch, not a 15 TPI toolbox saw.

Does the handle include angle guides?

The bullets incorporate 45° and 90° angle guides. Reviews mention them. Accuracy is not verified in the listing.

Can it cut chipboard?

The bullets list chipboard and MDF. Hardpoint teeth may dull quickly on abrasive boards, as UK hardpoint guides warn.

OX Pro toolbox saw 350 mm

Rank 3

OX Pro toolbox saw 350 mm

Our view

The OX Pro is a 350 mm toolbox saw listed at £7.43, and the title states 15 TPI double-ground teeth for wood, MDF, plastic and insulation board. Across 356 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.7, buyers describe clean cuts in those materials and in acrylic, and they use it on doors, shed timber and small branches. The number-of-teeth row says 14, so the packet does not agree with itself on pitch. One review says the edge did not stay sharp, and another says a basic shop saw cut a 2x4 better. The blade carries 45° and 90° guide lines, and the review file barely says whether those marks are square. A sleeve turns up only in a review, not in the included-components field, which lists one hand saw. The power-source row says AC, with no voltage or plug, so that line is listing noise on a hand saw. For trim, MDF and plastic at a toolbox length, the stated pitch, the review file and the price sit together, with the 14-versus-15 clash left in the score.

Pros

  • 350 mm blade with 15 TPI stated in the title and the bullets
  • 4.7 from 356 reviews, with clean cuts in wood, MDF, plastic and acrylic
  • 45° and 90° guide lines printed on the blade
  • About £7.43, and several buyers treat OX as a known trade brand

Cons

  • Title says 15 TPI and the teeth row says 14
  • One report that the edge did not stay sharp
  • A coarser shop saw cut a 2x4 better in one review
  • No pouch in the included-components field, and an AC row on a hand saw

Best for: Trim, MDF panels, plastic and acrylic at a 350 mm toolbox length, if you can accept the 14-versus-15 pitch clash.

Less suitable: Wet logs, a long rip in thick timber, or a buyer who needs one agreed TPI figure before paying.

Common questions

Is the OX Pro saw mains powered?

The title and bullets describe a 350 mm hand saw. The power-source row says AC, and no voltage or plug is listed. Treat it as a hand saw.

What tooth pitch does it state?

The title and bullets say 15 TPI, double-ground and hardened. The number-of-teeth row says 14, so the two figures do not match.

Which materials do the bullets name?

Wood, MDF, plastic and celotex insulation board. The blade also has 45° and 90° guide lines.

Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP panel saw

Rank 4

Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP panel saw

∼£14

Our view

The Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP is listed at £13.85 with 4.6 from 349 amazon.co.uk reviews. Buyers praise the stiff thick blade for staying on line compared with thin budget saws, and several repeat-purchase reviews come from trade-style users. The included name states 9 TPI on 550 mm; a teeth row prints 22, which does not match, so treat the maker line as the pitch to check. Marketing RRP claims in reviews are widely dismissed. It is the top pick in this set for a general 550 mm panel saw when you want stiffness and a tooth protector, not the cheapest disposable blade.

Pros

  • Thick blade claim matches review themes on control
  • 4.6 from 349 reviews
  • Reusable tooth protector named in the bullets
  • 550 mm length for sheet and posts

Cons

  • Teeth row conflicts with the 9 TPI name
  • Fake RRP marketing in reviews
  • Not the cheapest panel saw
  • Thin ply can struggle without a finer saw

Best for: General 550 mm panel cuts in wood when you want a stiff hardpoint blade.

Less suitable: Metal, plumbing pipe, or a buyer who only needs 350 mm trim length.

Common questions

Does the Bahco listing include a blade guard?

The bullets name a reusable plastic patented tooth protector. That is not a full blade sheath, but it covers the teeth.

What tooth pitch does the maker name?

Included-components text names 550 mm and 9 TPI. A separate teeth row prints 22, which does not match 9 TPI. Treat the maker line as the pitch to check.

Is this saw mains powered?

The title describes a manual handsaw. Listing rows for rpm and batteries are listing noise on this saw.

Draper Venom 80874 second-fix saw

Rank 5

Draper Venom 80874 second-fix saw

Our view

The Draper Venom 80874 is a 350 mm second-fix toolbox saw at £6.50, the lowest price in this set, and the bullets state a 12 PPI double-ground blade. Across 832 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.5, buyers say it cuts wood easily for beginners and small jobs, including shrubs, fence panels and a first pallet project, and they like the TPR grip at 340 g. The same file includes snagging, a slightly rusty blade on arrival in one review, and a blade protector that is hard to refit. That protector is not in the included-components field. The listing also shows 4,500 rpm and one AAAA battery, which conflict with a manual saw. Draper’s own page states 11 TPI and 12 PPI for this model, while the amazon bullets print 12 PPI only. It is the best value here for a cheap second-fix push saw if you can live with snagging.

Pros

  • About £6.50, the lowest price in this set
  • 4.5 from 832 reviews
  • 350 mm second-fix saw with a TPR grip, listed at 340 g
  • Buyers report easy cuts on fence panels, shrubs and a first pallet

Cons

  • Prone to snagging, including in foam on acoustic panels
  • One review of a dull, slightly rusty blade on arrival
  • Blade protector is hard to refit and is not in the included-components field
  • Listing rows for 4,500 rpm and an AAAA battery conflict with a hand saw

Best for: A cheap second-fix push saw for panels, fence boards and small timber, if snagging is acceptable.

Less suitable: A flush dowel cut, or anyone who reads the rpm or battery row as a powered saw.

Common questions

Does the Draper 80874 need a battery?

The power source is manual. The listing also shows 4,500 rpm and one AAAA battery. Those rows conflict with the hand-saw title.

What does 12 PPI mean on this saw?

The bullets state a 12 PPI tooth design with double-ground, hardened teeth. Draper’s page for 80874 states 11 TPI and 12 PPI. Do not treat 12 PPI as 12 TPI.

Is it described as a second-fix saw?

Yes. The title and the item type call it a second-fix double-ground toolbox saw, 350 mm, with a TPR soft grip.

Vigaoc 11 TPI fine-cut saw

Rank 6

Vigaoc 11 TPI fine-cut saw

∼£15

Our view

The Vigaoc is a 350 mm, 11 TPI fine-cut saw at £14.99, weighing 350 g, with 45° and 90° marks on both sides of the handle and a blade listed as stainless steel, 1 mm thick. The title says Vigaoc. The brand and manufacturer rows say Viganoc. The model is V030. Across 103 amazon.co.uk reviews at 4.3, the short texts praise a comfortable grip and clean cuts in moulding and household wood, and some buyers use it on small logs and garden waste. One buyer says it rusted immediately, one says it would not cut, and others say it is hard work once the section gets bigger. Fourteen UK texts were in the file, and several are a single line, so the star line does not show how long the edge lasts. The title includes gardening, and plastic appears only in a review, not in the bullets. It is an occasional 11 TPI saw for small mouldings if the blade arrives bright, and a weak choice for a larger section.

Pros

  • 11 TPI and 350 mm stated, with a 1 mm blade
  • 4.3 from 103 reviews, with clean cuts in moulding and household wood
  • 45° and 90° marks on both sides of the handle
  • 350 g, and some buyers cut small logs and garden waste

Cons

  • One saw rusted immediately
  • One buyer says it would not cut, with no further diagnosis
  • Hard work once the section gets bigger
  • Only 14 UK texts in the file, several of them one line

Best for: Small mouldings and household wood, if you wipe the blade and the section stays modest.

Less suitable: Larger sections, or a buyer who wants a longer account of edge life than a one-line review.

Common questions

Which brand name is on the listing?

The title says Vigaoc. The brand and manufacturer rows say Viganoc. The model is V030.

Is the blade stated as stainless?

The blade-material row says stainless steel. The bullets claim tri-ground, laser-hardened teeth and do not name a grade. One review reports immediate rust.

11 TPI, 350 mm, 1 mm thick, with 45° and 90° marks on the handle. No blade cover is listed.

Hanpex 330 mm adjustable pipe saw

Rank 7

Hanpex 330 mm adjustable pipe saw

∼£16

Our view

Hanpex’s 330 mm saw, model X083-UK, is listed at £15.99 with 4.1 from 21 ratings and a weight of 310 g. The title emphasises pipe, drywall and tight spaces, and the materials row names PVC, ABS, wood, drywall and plastic, with an adjustable cutting angle. It is included here as a compact option for plumbing and drywall access, not as the main wood panel recommendation. Non-UK reviews dominate the file, so the star line is a thin UK evidence base next to the Predator or the Draper. The compatible materials row also includes metal, which does not turn this into a substitute for a 550 mm timber rip. One review criticises corrosion and balance. Skip it unless the job is tight access in PVC or drywall.

Pros

  • Adjustable angle for awkward cuts
  • Compact 330 mm length
  • Title claims PVC, drywall and plastic

Cons

  • Small and mixed review base
  • Not a 550 mm panel rip saw
  • Corrosion and balance criticism in one review

Best for: Drywall or pipe access in a tight cupboard.

Less suitable: General timber framing or a first handsaw purchase.

Common questions

The compatible materials row includes metal. That does not make it a replacement for a wood panel saw.

How strong is the UK review base?

The listing has 21 ratings and few UK review texts compared with the Predator or the Draper.

How we compared

Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk listings captured for these seven handsaws on 20 October 2026, plus the review themes on those listings. A reciprocating saw, two hacksaws, a Japanese pull saw and a folding pruning saw were removed before scoring. Products Compared did not lab-test these saws. Weights sum to 100. The highest score is the top pick, once. Best value is the best remaining price for a saw that matches its title job, once.

1

Amazon evidence

30%

Star rating on amazon.co.uk, then review count. Very low counts are deducted.

2

Listing fit

Handsaw buying guide

Match length and tooth pitch to the cut before you chase the lowest sticker. These seven amazon.co.uk listings are hand saws, not motors. Prices on 20 October 2026 run from about £6.50 to about £28.95. The top pick is the Bahco 550 mm panel saw. Best value is the Draper 350 mm second-fix saw. rpm, battery and AC rows on these titles are listing noise. The score uses amazon.co.uk evidence, listing fit, review outcomes and value. It is not a laboratory cut.

What is a handsaw?

A handsaw, for a UK shopper on amazon.co.uk, is a hand-powered saw with an open blade and no motor. Most listings in this set are western push saws: a blade of about 350 mm or 550 mm, a plastic or TPR handle, and impulse-hardened teeth you do not sharpen at home. Seven amazon.co.uk ASINs remain after a reciprocating saw, two hacksaws, a Japanese pull saw and a folding pruning saw were removed. Shelf prices in the files, read on 20 October 2026, run from £6.50 to £28.95.

Best for

  • Boards, sleepers and general timber on a 550 mm blade
  • Second fix, skirting and plastic on a 350 mm toolbox saw

Not ideal for

  • Metal pipe, which needs a hacksaw
  • Filing hardpoint teeth, or a structural joist

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Trusting rpm or a battery row

These titles are manual saws. The Draper listing still shows 4,500 rpm and one AAAA battery. The OX listing says AC, with no voltage or plug. Those rows do not make the saw a power tool. Score them as noise.

  2. 2

    Filing hardpoint teeth

Impulse-hardened teeth are not a sharpen-at-home edge. Axminster’s guide says chipboard and abrasive boards dull them, and the answer is a new saw. A blunt blade on arrival is a Consumer Rights Act question, not a filing job.

  3. 3

Using 15 TPI on wet logs

A fine toolbox pitch is for a clean face on trim, MDF and plastic. Wet logs and a long structural rip want a coarser 550 mm panel saw, or a different tool. A flexible blade on a long rip wanders unless you keep a guide line.

What to weigh up

Length and tooth pitch

High

Length decides whether the blade can finish the piece. A 550 mm panel saw has no spine, so it suits posts and sheet goods. A 350 mm toolbox saw suits skirting and a site bag, and it is the wrong length for a comfortable long rip. BuildWiz puts general panel saws at 500–550 mm and toolbox saws at 250–350 mm. Pitch decides the face. Lower TPI is faster and rougher. Higher TPI is slower and cleaner. RS puts 7–11 TPI in the medium band and 12 TPI and above as fine.

Hardpoint life and listing noise

High

Hardpoint teeth last longer than a soft traditional edge and they are not meant for routine resharpening. Axminster’s guide is clear that abrasive boards, including chipboard, dull them, so you replace the saw. A tooth protector, named on the Bahco and missing as a spec on most of the others, only covers the teeth in storage. It is not a sheath for the whole blade. Listing noise is the other trap. Ignore rpm, battery count and an AC row when the title is a hand saw.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Boards and general timber

You cut boards, sleepers and general timber and you want a 550 mm blade with no spine in the way. The Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP at about £13.85 states 9 TPI in the included name, claims a thicker hardpoint blade, and has 4.6 from 349 reviews. The Predator at about £10.79 is the cheaper 8 ppi alternative if you do not need the tooth protector.

Second fix and plastic

The cut will show, or you are trimming skirting rather than ripping a post. The Draper Venom 80874 at about £6.50 is a 350 mm second-fix saw with 4.5 from 832 reviews. The bullets state 12 PPI. Draper’s page states 11 TPI and 12 PPI. The OX Pro at about £7.43 states 15 TPI if you want a finer toolbox pitch.

Van or shared shed

You already know you will dull more than one hardpoint saw. The triple pack is three Spear & Jackson B9822 saws at about £28.95, about £9.65 each if you use all three, against about £10.79 for the single. The pack has 4.8 from 30 reviews, far fewer than the single ASIN. Buy it for three identical 8 ppi panel saws, not for one shelf project.

Common questions about Handsaws

Which handsaw is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP, ASIN B0001IX7OC, at about £13.85. It has the highest score in this set, 86, with 4.6 from 349 amazon.co.uk reviews. The included name states a 550 mm blade at 9 TPI, and the bullets claim a thicker hardpoint blade plus a reusable tooth protector. A separate teeth row prints 22, which does not match 9 TPI, so check the maker line. It is the stiff 550 mm panel saw here, not the cheapest.
How much does a handsaw cost on amazon.co.uk?
In this set the stored prices on 20 October 2026 run from about £6.50 to about £28.95. Under £8 are the Draper Venom at about £6.50 and the OX Pro at about £7.43. The Spear & Jackson Predator single is about £10.79, the Bahco about £13.85, the Vigaoc about £14.99 and the Hanpex about £15.99. The triple Predator pack is about £28.95, about £9.65 a saw if you use all three. Figures are from that date, not a live price check.
What tooth pitch should a handsaw have?
Lower pitch cuts faster and leaves a rougher face. Higher pitch is slower and cleaner. RS Components puts 7–11 TPI in the medium band and 12 TPI and above as fine. Homebuilding uses 7–10 TPI for rough timber and 11–15 TPI for a finer finish. In this set the Predator is 8 points per inch and the Bahco name says 9 TPI. The Draper bullets say 12 PPI, and Draper’s page states 11 TPI and 12 PPI. Do not read 12 PPI as 12 TPI.
Can you sharpen a hardpoint handsaw?
Plan to replace the saw, not file the teeth. Axminster’s hardpoint guide states that hardened teeth are not designed for routine resharpening, and that chipboard and other abrasive boards dull them quickly. The seven saws in this set are impulse-hardened push saws, not traditional blades you sharpen at home. A blunt saw on arrival is a quality problem under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, not a cue to file the teeth. Store the blade where it cannot cut through a bag.
Is a 550 mm panel saw better than a 350 mm toolbox saw?
It depends on the cut. A 550 mm panel saw, such as the Bahco or the Predator, has no spine limit, so it suits thick posts and sheet goods. A 350 mm toolbox saw, such as the Draper or the OX Pro, fits a site bag and skirting, and it will not rip a long board as comfortably. BuildWiz puts general panel saws at 500–550 mm for structural timber and 250–350 mm toolbox saws for visible trim.
Do these handsaws need mains power or a battery?
No. A handsaw in this comparison is hand-powered, with an open blade and no motor. Several amazon.co.uk rows still print rpm, an AC power source or a battery. Those rows were treated as listing noise. The Draper file shows 4,500 rpm and one AAAA battery beside a manual title. The OX file says AC, with no voltage or plug. Ignore those lines unless the title itself shows a motor. None of these seven titles does.
When is a hacksaw the better tool?
Use a handsaw for timber, sheet goods and, where the listing says so, plastic or drywall. Use a hacksaw when the job is metal pipe or a thin metal section. A wood pitch will not replace a metal blade, and a hacksaw frame is a poor rip saw for a 550 mm panel cut. This set excluded hacksaw listings on purpose. Metal saws are compared on the hacksaw page. A metal line on the Hanpex row still does not make it a timber panel saw.
When should you stop and call a joiner?
Call a carpenter or joiner when the cut is structural, such as a joist, a stair string or a load-bearing stud, or when the accuracy affects building control sign-off. Stop if the material may be asbestos cement. At work, PUWER 1998 applies when an employer provides the saw as work equipment. HSE’s woodworking ACOP L114 covers machinery and excludes hand-held tools, so do not copy circular-saw guarding onto a panel saw. At home, keep the workpiece stable and your fingers clear of the cut.

The top pick is the Bahco 2600-22-XT-HP, a stiff 550 mm hardpoint panel saw at about £13.85 with 4.6 from 349 reviews and a tooth protector named in the bullets. Best value is the Draper Venom 80874 at about £6.50, a 350 mm second-fix saw with 4.5 from 832 reviews. The Predator single at about £10.79 has the largest review file, 2,085, and it does not take the top badge because the Bahco scores higher on stiffness and includes a protector. The triple pack is for three identical Predator saws, not a first handsaw.
