Body saw comparison 2026

The best body saws, compared.

Top pick: WorkPad WP01117 Best value: Bluespot 07948 – About £20.46 with 16 gauge, 90 psi, 4 cfm and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet on the bullets, the fullest air block in this set. Updated October 2026.

Peter F.Editor

A body saw on amazon.co.uk is a small pneumatic reciprocating saw for thin sheet metal, vehicle panels and exhausts. It is not a cordless jigsaw and not a wood saw. Look for a stated thickness, a stated air consumption at a stated pressure, a 1/4 inch inlet and a depth guard. Amazon often prints corded electric on an air tool. That cell is not the power source when the title and the pressure say air. HSE says a few minutes of panel removal with an air saw can push a day over the 85 dB(A) upper action value. Thickness, air use and the inlet are in the [body saw buying guide](/hub/power-saws/body-saw/sub/body-saw-buying-guide). A depth guard, where the listing has one, is a depth stop. It is not a fence that steers a long cut. Included blades are a weak point in UK reviews. On the 70833 the blade is held by a screw and a hex key, not a quick release.

Question 1 of 2

Which figure do you need on the listing?

The best body saws in detail

WorkPad WP01117

Rank 1

WorkPad WP01117

∼£49

Our view

The WorkPad WP01117, listed at £48.99, is a 650 g pneumatic car body saw whose bullets state 9,000 bpm and 85 litres a minute, with a 1/4 inch nipple and ten blades, five 24T and five 32T. The star line is 4.5 from 18 reviews, and the listing has no UK review text, so there is no workshop job to quote. The bullets say sheet metal, car bodies and thin wooden panels without a millimetre limit, and operating pressure is not on the listing. The Amazon title also says jigsaw; the specification is still an air body saw, not a woodworking jigsaw. A teeth line prints 280, which is not a tooth count you can buy blades against. At the top of the mid price band, the missing thickness and the empty UK write-ups hold the score down.

Pros

  • 9,000 bpm and 85 litres/min on the bullets
  • 1/4 inch nipple in the box
  • Ten blades: five 24T and five 32T
  • 4.5 from 18 reviews
  • Power cell says pneumatic

Cons

  • No millimetre cutting claim
  • No UK review text on the listing
  • Operating pressure and a depth guard are not stated
  • The title uses jigsaw for an air body saw

Best for: You want a stated air figure and a spare-blade pack, and you will set your own thickness limit from another source.

Less suitable: You want a millimetre claim on the listing and UK owners describing a cut.

Common questions

What air figure does the listing give?

The bullet says 9,000 bpm and an air consumption of 85 litres/min. Operating pressure in psi or bar is not on this listing.

Which blades are in the box?

The included-components line names a 5-piece 24T and 32T saw set and a 1/4 inch nipple.

Is a cutting thickness stated?

No. The bullets say sheet metal, car bodies and thin wooden panels, without a millimetre limit.

Bluespot 07948

Rank 2

Bluespot 07948

∼£20

Our view

The Bluespot 07948, listed at £20.46, is a 730 g air body saw whose bullets state 16 gauge (1.29 mm), 90 psi (6.2 bar), 4 CFM (113 litres a minute), a 10 mm stroke and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet. That is the only listing in this set with capacity, pressure, flow and inlet on the Amazon bullets. The star line is 4.3 from 13 reviews. Two of the three short UK texts describe stalling and very little power. The power-source cell says corded electric even though the title and the psi figure describe air. Included blades are not stated, and the listing does not say whether the saw needs oil. Blue Spot's own page repeats the 1.29 mm and 4 CFM figures and does not add owner reviews.

Pros

  • 16 gauge (1.29 mm) printed on the bullets
  • 90 psi, 4 CFM and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet in one block
  • 10 mm stroke at 9,000 strokes a minute
  • Lowest price in this set, at £20.46

Cons

  • Two of three UK texts say it stalls or has little power
  • Only 13 reviews
  • Power cell says corded electric on an air saw
  • Blades and an oil instruction are not in the spec block

Best for: You want the air numbers on the Amazon page and a price around £20, and you can live with a short review file.

Less suitable: Those stall reports are enough to put you off, or you do not have a compressor.

Common questions

What air supply do the bullets specify?

90 psi (6.2 bar), 4 CFM (113 L/min), and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet. Stroke length is 10 mm at 9,000 strokes per minute.

Why does the power cell say corded electric?

That is the printed power-source cell. The title is Bluespot 07948 Air Body Saw and the bullets specify air pressure, air consumption and a BSP inlet.

Does the listing say it needs oil?

The listing does not say whether the saw needs oil. No oil instruction is in the spec block.

Draper 70833

Rank 3

Draper 70833

∼£35

Our view

The Draper 70833, listed at £34.95, is a 640 g pneumatic body saw whose amazon.co.uk bullets limit straight and scroll cuts to mild steel of 1.2 mm, for exhausts, silencers and body panels. Across 63 reviews at 4.2, UK buyers describe vibration, oil mist from the exhaust, a trigger catch that snags a glove, and a blade held by a screw and a hex key rather than a quick release. One review says a 100 litre compressor ran continuously while the saw was cutting, which is a report of that workshop, not a minimum tank size. Draper's own page states 90 psi, 2.5 cfm and 10,000 strokes a minute, while the Amazon speed cell prints 4500 RPM and leaves air consumption blank. The manual declares 92 dB(A) and 15 m/s²; that vibration figure is the maker's declaration, not a measurement we made. One unit in the review file arrived broken. The adjustable guard is a depth stop, and the two included blades are 18T and 24T.

Pros

  • Mild steel stated at 1.2 mm on the Amazon bullets
  • 4.2 from 63 reviews, the largest sample in this set
  • Safety trigger and an adjustable work guard
  • Power cell says pneumatic, matching an air tool
  • Maker page states 90 psi, 2.5 cfm and a 1/4 inch inlet

Cons

  • Amazon page omits air consumption and prints 4500 RPM
  • Blade is a screw and a hex key, not a quick release
  • UK reviews mention vibration, exhaust oil and a fiddly catch
  • One arrival reported broken

Best for: You want a stated 1.2 mm limit and the largest review file in this set, and you already have a compressor.

Less suitable: You need the air consumption printed on the Amazon page you order from, or you want a quick-release blade.

Common questions

What thickness does the listing claim?

The bullets say straight and scroll cuts on mild steel up to 1.2 mm, for exhausts, silencers and body panels.

Is it cordless?

No. The power-source cell says pneumatic. The bullets describe an air-powered saw.

How is the blade held?

The bullets include hex keys with two blades. A UK review says the blade is fixed with a screw, not a quick release.

Orientools air reciprocating saw

Rank 4

Orientools air reciprocating saw

∼£24

Our view

The Orientools air reciprocating saw, listed at £23.99, claims 1.6 mm steel or 2 mm aluminium at 8,500 strokes a minute, with 90 PSI and a 1/4 inch thread in the title. At 4.0 from 77 reviews it has the second-largest sample in this set. A UK reviewer cut a camper-van side panel, then snapped a blade on mild-steel seat rails and stopped. Another returned it because the blade was only a few inches long and would not do branches or logs. The low-vibration bullet conflicts with UK reviews that call it bouncy and loud. The power cell says corded electric, and the dimensions line prints 30 x 8 x 5 mm, which is not a plausible tool size. One review says it failed on a third use. Air consumption in CFM is not on this UK listing.

Pros

  • 1.6 mm steel or 2 mm aluminium on the bullets
  • Six blades (18T, 24T and 32T), a guard and an air nipple
  • 4.0 from 77 reviews
  • A UK review did complete a van side-panel cut

Cons

  • A UK review snapped a blade on mild-steel seat rails
  • The low-vibration bullet conflicts with reviews that call it bouncy
  • Power cell says corded electric on an air saw
  • No CFM figure on the UK listing

Best for: You are cutting thin sheet or a van side inside the 1.6 mm steel claim, not seat rails or logs.

Less suitable: You need seat rails, branches, or a vibration claim that matches the UK reviews.

Common questions

What thickness does the bullet claim?

1.6 mm steel or 2 mm aluminium at 8,500 strokes per minute. A UK review says mild-steel seat rails were too much and a blade snapped.

What is in the box?

Two 18T, two 24T and two 32T blades, one blade guard, two hexagon wrenches, one air nipple and one manual.

Does the listing call it low vibration?

Yes, one bullet says low vibration and quieter cutting. UK reviews in the same file describe bouncing, vibration and a loud tool.

WorkPad WP01118

Rank 5

WorkPad WP01118

∼£49

Our view

The WorkPad WP01118, listed at £48.99, is the same 650 g air-saw idea with five 24T blades, five 32T blades and a five-piece file set, at 9,000 bpm and 85 litres a minute. At 3.5 from 14 reviews it is the lowest star line in this set. One UK review calls it a pneumatic reciprocating saw and file, says the hose keeps it in the workshop, and reports a failure after about 10 minutes. The same review says the exhaust is loud and there is no quick release, which sits next to a noise bullet of 96 dBA. There is still no millimetre capacity, no inlet size and no operating pressure on the listing. The included-components line only says Attachments, while the bullets name the blades and the files.

Pros

  • Five files as well as ten saw blades
  • 9,000 bpm and 85 litres/min stated
  • Safety trigger on the listing
  • Noise bullet prints 96 dBA, so hearing protection is easy to plan

Cons

  • 3.5 from 14 reviews, the lowest star line here
  • One UK review describes a failure after about 10 minutes
  • No thickness, inlet or operating pressure
  • That review says there is no quick-release blade

Best for: You want the files in the same box as the saw, and you accept a thin, mixed review file.

Less suitable: You want a stated thickness, or a saw that UK reviews have kept running past the first few minutes.

Common questions

Does the box include files as well as blades?

Yes. The bullets list a 5-piece 24T set, a 5-piece 32T set and a 5-piece file set. The included-components line only says Attachments.

What noise figure is printed?

One bullet states a noise level of 96 dBA. A review also says the exhaust is loud and that hearing protection should be worn.

Is an inlet size stated?

No. Air consumption is 85 l/min at 9,000 bpm. Pressure and inlet size are not on this listing.

How we compared

Shelf prices, stars and review counts are the amazon.co.uk listings in this comparison, captured on 20 October 2026. There is no lab test. The score is 0–100 from four parts. The highest score is the top pick, once. Best value is the highest value-part score that is not the top pick, once. A GS mark is not a UK approval, and a power cell that says corded electric does not turn an air saw into a mains saw.

1

Stars

35%

Amazon star rating divided by 5, then multiplied by 35, and rounded to the nearest integer. A half rounds up. The star line is the amazon.co.uk figure, not a UK-only average.

2

Review sample

20%

50 or more reviews score 14. From 10 to 49 reviews score 8. Fewer than 10 score 3. A high star line on a short file does not outrank a larger UK-readable sample.

3

Fit as an air body saw

30%

Points for a stated thickness, air consumption, pressure, a named inlet, a depth guard and a pneumatic power cell. No UK review text, a stall or an early failure, and a low-vibration bullet that UK reviews contradict, all deduct.

4

Value in this set

15%

Shelf price in GBP against what the Amazon bullets actually state. A full air block under £25 scores higher than a £48.99 row with no millimetre claim. The top pick does not also take this award.

Body saw buying guide

Buy the thickness and the air figures before the spare blades. A body saw only cuts what the listing states, and these five listings do not state the same limit. A compressor that can feed 2.5 cfm is not the same demand as one that must feed 4 cfm. A power cell that says corded electric is a cataloguing error when the title, the psi and the inlet say air. Ordinary saws in this snapshot sit under £50. The Draper Expert at about £94, with a 12 gauge claim, is outside this set.

What is a body saw?

A body saw, on the amazon.co.uk listings in this comparison, is a small pneumatic reciprocating saw for thin sheet metal, vehicle panels and exhausts. It is not a cordless jigsaw and not a wood saw. It runs from a compressor. A depth guard, where the listing has one, is a depth stop. It is not a fence that steers a long cut. Boxes quote 18T, 24T and 32T blades. Included blades are a weak point in UK reviews. On the Draper 70833 the blade is held by a screw and a hex key, not a quick release.

Best for

  • A DIY owner with a compressor, patching a wing, sill or exhaust inside the stated thickness
  • A mechanic making short panel or exhaust cuts who can read psi and cfm on the listing

Not ideal for

  • Chassis, seat rails, fuel lines, airbags, or any cut where you cannot see what is behind the panel
  • A buyer with no compressor, or anyone treating an Amazon corded-electric cell as a mains saw

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

    Trusting the corded-electric cell

The Bluespot 07948 and the Orientools listing print corded electric in the power cell. The titles and the pressure figures describe air tools. That cell does not mean a BS 1363 plug or a 230 V motor. You still need a compressor.

  2. 2

    Cutting past the millimetre claim

Seat rails, chassis and logs sit outside the 1.2 mm, 1.29 mm and 1.6 mm lines in this set. A UK Orientools review snapped a blade on mild-steel seat rails. More compressor pressure does not turn a thin-sheet saw into a heavy-steel saw.

  3. 3

Judging the saw by the free blades

Included blades are a weak point in UK reviews. The Draper holds its blade with a screw and a hex key, not a quick release. Ten blades do not replace a stated thickness. The WorkPad WP01117 has no millimetre claim and no UK review text.

What to weigh up

Thickness and evidence

High

Stay inside the millimetre figure the listing prints. The Draper 70833 bullets limit straight and scroll cuts to mild steel of 1.2 mm, for exhausts, silencers and body panels. The Bluespot 07948 states 16 gauge, printed as 1.29 mm. Orientools claims 1.6 mm steel or 2 mm aluminium at 8,500 strokes a minute. Both WorkPad tools name sheet metal, car bodies and thin wooden panels, and neither gives a millimetre limit. Seat rails, chassis and logs sit outside those claims.

Air, inlet and blades

High

Match the saw to air you can supply. The Bluespot 07948 bullets state 90 psi (6.2 bar), 4 cfm (113 litres a minute) and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet, with a 10 mm stroke at 9,000 strokes a minute. Both WorkPad tools state 9,000 bpm and 85 litres a minute. The WP01117 includes a 1/4 inch nipple. Operating pressure is not in that file. Draper's page for the 70833 states 90 psi, 2.5 cfm (78 litres a minute) and 10,000 strokes a minute.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

DIY restorer with a compressor

You are patching a wing, a sill or an exhaust and you already have air. The Draper 70833 is the top pick at about £34.95. The bullets state mild steel to 1.2 mm, the power cell says pneumatic, and 4.2 from 63 reviews is the largest sample here. The Amazon page does not print the cfm.

The Bluespot 07948 is best value at about £20.46: 16 gauge (1.29 mm), 90 psi, 4 cfm and a 1/4 inch BSP inlet. Two of three UK texts describe stalling. The power cell says corded electric. The title and the psi figure say air.

Saw and files in one box

You want files as well as blades, and you accept a thin review file. The WorkPad WP01118 is about £48.99, with five 24T blades, five 32T blades and five files, at 9,000 bpm and 85 litres a minute. It is 3.5 from 14 reviews. One UK review reports a failure after about 10 minutes. There is no millimetre claim.

Common questions about body saws

Which body saw is the top pick in 2026?
The top pick is the Draper 70833 at about £34.95. It scores 75, the highest of these five amazon.co.uk listings. The bullets limit mild steel to 1.2 mm, the power cell says pneumatic, and 4.2 from 63 reviews is the largest sample here. The Amazon page leaves air consumption blank and prints 4,500 rpm. Draper's own page states 90 psi, 2.5 cfm and 10,000 strokes a minute. UK reviews mention vibration, exhaust oil and a screw-held blade.
How much does a body saw cost on amazon.co.uk?
The five amazon.co.uk rows here were captured on 20 October 2026. The Bluespot 07948 is about £20.46 and the Orientools air saw is about £23.99. The Draper 70833 is about £34.95. Both WorkPad tools, the WP01117 and the WP01118, are about £48.99. Ordinary saws in this snapshot sit under £50. A Draper Expert 22414, not in this set, was about £93.94 with a 12 gauge claim. These are stored shelf prices, not a live check.
What should you check before you buy a body saw?
Check the thickness in millimetres before the free blades. The Draper states 1.2 mm mild steel, the Bluespot 16 gauge (1.29 mm), and Orientools 1.6 mm steel or 2 mm aluminium. Both WorkPad listings give no millimetre figure. Then check air: psi or bar, litres a minute or cfm, and a 1/4 inch inlet. Ignore a power cell that says corded electric when the title and the pressure say air. Seat rails and chassis sit outside these claims.
Is a body saw the same as a cordless reciprocating saw?
No. A body saw in this set is a pneumatic tool for thin sheet, panels and exhausts, and it needs a compressor. A cordless reciprocating saw uses a battery and a longer blade, which suits work with no air supply, or wood and branches. When to pick each one is set out in body saw versus a cordless reciprocating saw. An Amazon title that says jigsaw, on the WorkPad WP01117, is still an air body saw.
What air supply do these body saws need?
There is no single cfm figure for every body saw. The Bluespot 07948 states 90 psi (6.2 bar), 4 cfm (113 litres a minute) and a 1/4 inch inlet. Both WorkPad tools state 85 litres a minute. The WP01117 includes a 1/4 inch nipple. Draper's 70833 page states 90 psi and 2.5 cfm, while Amazon leaves air consumption blank. One UK review says a 100 litre compressor ran continuously. That is one workshop, not a minimum tank size.
How loud is a body saw, and does vibration matter?
HSE motor-vehicle repair guidance puts air saws up to 107 dB(A). About six minutes of panel removal can put a day over the 85 dB(A) upper action value. Draper's 70833 manual declares 92 dB(A) and 15 m/s². That is the maker's declaration, not a measurement of these five saws. A worked example at that magnitude reaches the 2.5 m/s² action value in about 13 minutes. The WorkPad WP01118 prints 96 dBA. Wear hearing protection for panel work.
When should a bodyshop do the cut instead?
Call a bodyshop for chassis, belt anchors, airbags, fuel tanks, fuel lines and brake lines, and when you cannot identify what is behind the panel. These listings are for thin sheet, panels and exhausts inside a stated thickness. A low-vibration bullet is not a substitute for a noise and vibration check at work. If the saw arrives broken or is not as described, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies. None of these five rows was lab-measured for noise.
What if you do not have a compressor?
These five saws are pneumatic. Without a compressor they will not cut. A cordless reciprocating saw is the other route for work away from a hose, and for wood these short blades are not sold to cut. Start with the Bosch cordless reciprocating saw page if you want a battery saw rather than an air body saw. Do not buy the Bluespot or the Orientools because the power cell says corded electric. Those cells are mislabels on air tools.

Our verdict

The top pick is the Draper 70833 at about £34.95. It scores 75 (stars 29, sample 14, fit 20, value 12): 1.2 mm mild steel on the bullets, the largest review file here, and a power cell that says pneumatic. Fit is capped because Amazon leaves air consumption blank and prints 4,500 rpm, against the maker page's 2.5 cfm and 10,000 strokes a minute. Best value is the Bluespot 07948 at about £20.46. It scores 71, and its value part is 14, the highest value part that is not the Draper, because 16 gauge, 90 psi, 4 cfm and a BSP inlet are on the bullets. Two of three UK texts describe stalling, so fit is 19 rather than a full spec score.
