White boat paint, for a UK shopper on amazon.co.uk, is usually a one-pack topside enamel for the hull and cabin above the waterline. These eleven listings also include bilge enamels, a granule deck coating, a pale-cream topcoat, a touch-up pen and a two-pack set. Nine UK review texts describe bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay. Snow White, Polar White, Pure White, White, pale cream and RAL 9001 are different shades. A 5.0 from seven reviews is a small sample. Choose the job and the shade in the [white boat paint buying guide](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/white-boat-paint/sub/white-boat-paint-buying-guide). White boat paint, means a coating sold for a boat and described as white, pale cream or RAL 9001. It is a different product from antifouling, and a different product from household gloss. A film preservative that only protects the paint film is product type 7.

The best white boat paints in detail

Hempel Brilliant Gloss pure white 2.5 litres

Rank 1

Hempel Brilliant Gloss pure white 2.5 litres

∼£74

Our view

This 2.5-litre Hempel Brilliant Gloss tin provides a Pure White gloss for a larger wood topside or interior-and-exterior painting job. The larger pack reduces the need to join multiple 750 ml tins, but the £74.25 shelf price still needs to be judged against the area you actually have to coat. Its 5.0 rating looks strong, yet it is based on seven ratings and only one UK review text, with no specific fault reported. The listing marks the paint waterproof but supplies neither coverage nor drying time, so it is not enough on its own for planning coats and weather windows. It names wood as the recommended surface rather than confirming every common boat substrate. This is above-water gloss paint, not evidence of suitability below the waterline.

Pros

  • Large 2.5-litre pack for broader projects
  • Pure White gloss finish
  • Listing permits indoor and outdoor use
  • 5.0 rating, albeit from a small sample

Cons

  • Only seven ratings and one UK review text
  • No coverage or drying time on the listing
  • Surface recommendation names wood only

Best for: Larger above-water wood areas where a Pure White gloss and a 2.5-litre pack suit the job.

Less suitable: Buyers coating metal or GRP without further confirmation, or anyone needing listing-based coverage and recoat guidance.

International Toplac Plus snow white 750 ml

Rank 2

International Toplac Plus snow white 750 ml

∼£39

Our view

International Toplac Plus is presented as a 750 ml gloss enamel for exterior metal, wood and plastic, making it relevant to small above-water finishing jobs. The product title and one colour line say Snow White, but another attribute says Navy Grey, so the exact variant must be confirmed before ordering. Its 5.0 rating is based on only seven reviews and should not be read as evidence of long-term weathering performance. The listing also gives an unusable coverage value of 1 and contradictory drying information: 24 hours in one field and a one-hour full cure in another. Those conflicts make the Amazon page a poor basis for scheduling or estimating the job. Choose it only after checking the colour and application data against the tin or current manufacturer information.

Pros

  • Gloss enamel role suits above-water finishing
  • Lists metal, wood and plastic surfaces
  • Compact 750 ml pack
  • 5.0 rating, though from a small sample

Cons

  • Snow White and Navy Grey colour fields conflict
  • Drying and full-cure fields contradict each other
  • Coverage value is unusable
  • Only seven reviews

Best for: Small exterior topcoat jobs where Snow White is confirmed on the supplied tin before use.

Less suitable: Time-critical work, colour matching from the Amazon attributes alone or any below-water application.

International Danboline Bianco 750 ml

Rank 3

International Danboline Bianco 750 ml

∼£33

Our view

Danboline is aimed at enclosed working areas such as bilges, lockers and engine bays, where its dense pigment and wipe-clean surface matter more than a decorative topside gloss. Nine UK review texts describe use in bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay, giving this assessment a broader practical base than most products here. Reviewers report straightforward application and good opacity, while the listing also names resistance to oil, fuel and humidity. The 750 ml tin is therefore a focused choice for interior marine spaces rather than a general hull repaint. One recurring reservation is price, and the listing gives no coverage rate or drying time to help you plan the job. It is also not presented as antifouling or as a coating for permanent immersion.

Pros

  • Review evidence from bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay
  • Dense pigment and a surface reviewers found easy to clean
  • Listing names resistance to oil, fuel and humidity
  • Strong 4.8 rating from 26 reviews

Cons

  • Relatively expensive for a 750 ml tin
  • No coverage rate or drying time on the listing
  • Not a topside gloss or antifouling paint

Best for: Bilges, lockers, bulkheads and engine-bay areas that need an easy-clean marine coating.

Less suitable: Visible topsides, underwater hulls or buyers who need a published coverage and drying schedule.

Common questions

What job do the bullets give this tin?

Bilges, lockers, cockpits and bulkheads, with resistance to oil, fuel and humidity named in the bullets.

Bianco 750. The saved listing does not print the English word white.

What do the UK reviews describe?

Bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay, plus easy cleaning and dense pigment. One review calls it pricey but good.

Hempel bilge and locker white 750 ml

Rank 4

Hempel bilge and locker white 750 ml

∼£29

Our view

Hempel Bilge & Locker gives you a white semi-gloss coating for steel bilges and lockers, with a four-hour drying time stated on the listing. UK reviewers describe good coverage on a boat interior, easy application and worthwhile value, although the evidence comes from only 10 ratings. At £28.99 for 750 ml, it is the lowest-priced qualifying white or Bianco liquid tin in the comparison and is therefore the best-value pick under the stated method. Its job is clearly an interior marine space, not a glossy outer hull or a permanently immersed surface. The Amazon coverage field simply says 1, so it cannot be used to calculate how much paint to buy. The steel-only surface recommendation and an irrelevant Fabric Painting sales rank also make the listing less complete than the product title suggests.

Pros

  • Purpose-made white semi-gloss for bilges and lockers
  • Reviewers report easy application and good coverage
  • Four-hour drying time stated
  • Lowest qualifying white or Bianco tin at £28.99

Cons

  • Only 10 ratings support the score
  • Coverage field is unusable
  • Listing recommends steel but does not clearly cover other substrates

Best for: Steel bilges and lockers where a white semi-gloss finish and modest shelf price are priorities.

Less suitable: Topside refinishing, permanent immersion or projects needing a dependable published spreading rate.

What do the UK reviews describe?

Good coverage on a boat interior, easy application, and worth the money. They do not name a film fault.

Teamac marine gloss 1 litre

Rank 5

Teamac marine gloss 1 litre

∼£35

Our view

Teamac Marine Gloss combines a one-litre pack with a listed spreading rate of 10–12 m² per litre, making it one of the easier topside tins here to estimate. The listing gives a four-hour drying time and seven-day full cure, and names metal and wood as suitable surfaces. UK review feedback mentions a sailing dinghy, easy application, good reach from the tin and a finish that exceeded one buyer's expectations. Its 4.6 rating from 33 reviews is the largest review base among the topside gloss options in this extract. The main caution is a contradictory Amazon paint-type field that says Spray even though the item is liquid in a tin and a brush is listed. It is a high-gloss above-water coating, not a substitute for antifouling or a non-slip deck finish.

Pros

  • Useful 10–12 m² per litre coverage figure
  • One-litre pack balances capacity and handling
  • Largest topside-gloss review base in the comparison
  • Drying and full-cure times are stated

Cons

  • Listing incorrectly or ambiguously labels the paint as spray
  • Surface line names metal and wood but not fibreglass
  • Seven-day full cure requires planning

Best for: Metal or wood topsides and sailing-dinghy projects where coverage and curing figures are needed before buying.

Less suitable: Underwater hulls, slip-resistant decks or buyers relying on the listing's confused application-type field.

Common questions

What coverage does the listing state?

10–12 square metres per litre. Dry time is 4 hours and full cure is 7 days.

What do the UK reviews mention?

A sailing dinghy, easy use, a long way from the tin, and a better finish than expected. They do not name a film fault.

Hempel non-slip deck coating 750 ml

Rank 6

Hempel non-slip deck coating 750 ml

∼£35

Our view

Hempel Non-Slip is a granulated white coating for marine decks, with a listed coverage of 9.2 m² per litre and a one-hour drying time. Its purpose is grip underfoot, so it should be compared with deck coatings rather than smooth topside enamels. UK review feedback supports the non-slip effect, although one reviewer wanted a coarser texture. The listing marks it waterproof and gives a three-day full cure, which is useful for planning when the deck can return to service. Its data is less tidy than the practical specification suggests because the paint type is listed as both acrylic and oil. The title also says marine use only, so use on household decking or paving falls outside the stated job.

Pros

  • Granulated finish intended for marine deck grip
  • Listed coverage of 9.2 m² per litre
  • One-hour dry time and three-day full cure stated
  • 4.6 rating from 29 reviews

Cons

  • One reviewer wanted more grit
  • Listing conflicts over whether the paint is acrylic or oil
  • Not intended for household decking

Best for: Boat decks where a white, textured marine coating is more important than a smooth gloss finish.

Less suitable: Topsides, bilges, underwater areas or domestic garden decking.

Common questions

Can this go on a household deck?

The title says marine use only and not to be used with household decking.

Do the UK reviews mention grip?

One calls it really non-slip. Another wanted more grit. One reviewer used it on paving slabs.

Hempel Brilliant Gloss polar white 750 ml

Rank 7

Hempel Brilliant Gloss polar white 750 ml

∼£35

Our view

This 750 ml Hempel Brilliant Gloss is a Polar White topcoat listed for metal, fibreglass and wood above the waterline. That substrate range makes it easier to shortlist for a small mixed-material boat than the larger Pure White listing, which names wood only. Its 4.6 score comes from 10 ratings, while the two available UK review texts are brief and identify no particular weakness. The listing marks the paint waterproof and suitable indoors or outdoors, but that wording does not make it antifouling. No coverage rate or drying time is provided, so the amount required and the work schedule need checking elsewhere before purchase. It is also filed under Wall Paint on Amazon, an obvious category mismatch that reduces confidence in the listing data.

Pros

  • Lists metal, fibreglass and wood surfaces
  • Compact 750 ml size for smaller topside work
  • Polar White gloss finish
  • 4.6 rating from 10 reviews

Cons

  • Only two short UK review texts
  • No coverage or drying time on the listing
  • Amazon category placement is unreliable

Best for: Small above-water gloss jobs on metal, fibreglass or wood where Polar White is the required shade.

Less suitable: Below-water coating, large repaints or projects that require complete application data from the Amazon listing.

Common questions

Is this the same tin as Pure White?

This part number is H53200-10501-750ML and the title says Polar White. The 2.5 litre listing is H53200-10231 and says Pure White.

Which surfaces does the listing name?

Metal, fibreglass and wood. The use line says interior/exterior.

What do the UK reviews say?

Two one-line reviews call it a very good product and say it does what it says on the tin. Neither names a fault.

Teamac marine gloss 2.5 litres

Rank 8

Teamac marine gloss 2.5 litres

∼£66

Our view

This 2.5-litre Teamac Marine Gloss tin is sized for a broader Supermarine White topside project and lists coverage of 10–12 m² per litre. The listing also gives a four-hour drying time and seven-day full cure, which makes quantity and scheduling more transparent than many alternatives here. At £66.36, its simple shelf-price arithmetic is about £26.54 per litre before waste. The 4.5 rating comes from 11 reviews, but no review bodies were present in the source file, so there is no usable customer detail about application or finish. Amazon also calls the container a bottle, and its image URL matches the one-litre ASIN, both of which warrant checking the delivered variant carefully. It is a large-pack above-water gloss, not a non-slip or underwater coating.

Pros

  • Large 2.5-litre pack
  • Listed coverage of 10–12 m² per litre
  • Four-hour drying time and seven-day full cure stated
  • Lower arithmetic cost per litre than the smaller Teamac tin

Cons

  • No customer review text in the source file
  • Only 11 ratings
  • Container and image details on the listing are questionable

Best for: Larger metal or wood topside projects where a 2.5-litre Supermarine White pack reduces the number of tins.

Less suitable: Buyers who want detailed review evidence, small touch-ups or coatings for decks and submerged hulls.

Hempel Multicoat pale cream 750 ml

Rank 9

Hempel Multicoat pale cream 750 ml

∼£27

Our view

Hempel Multicoat is a 750 ml pale-cream topcoat rather than a true white boat paint, so shade is the first buying decision. The listing names wood, exterior use, a four-hour drying time and a waterproof attribute. One UK review reports easy use and a smooth finish, but the overall 4.1 rating is based on only 11 reviews. Its £27.13 shelf price is low for a liquid tin in this set, although it is excluded from the white-paint value badge because the colour is Pale Cream. The coverage field merely says 1, and the item-form field says spray despite the tin-and-brush format. It can suit a deliberate warm off-white scheme, but it should not be bought as a match for Pure White, Polar White or Snow White.

Pros

  • Low shelf price for a 750 ml liquid tin
  • Four-hour drying time stated
  • Review feedback mentions easy use and a smooth finish
  • Suitable for a deliberate pale-cream scheme

Cons

  • Pale cream rather than white
  • Only one detailed UK review text
  • Coverage and item-form fields are unreliable

Best for: Exterior wood where a warm pale-cream topcoat is wanted rather than a bright or coded white.

Less suitable: Matching an existing white finish, below-water use or estimating quantity from the listing.

Tailored Paint white touch-up pen

Rank 10

Tailored Paint white touch-up pen

Our view

This Tailored Paint product is a white touch-up pen for small marks on fibreglass, steel or wood, not a tin for repainting a panel or hull. Its £7.99 shelf price makes sense only in that narrow repair role because the listing gives no paint volume. The 3.7 rating is based on four reviews, and the available feedback says little about the repaired finish. One review concerns delayed delivery rather than paint performance. The listing supplies no finish, drying time, coverage or waterproof specification, while generic body copy also mentions an aerosol despite the pen format. It is convenient for a minor cosmetic repair only when an unspecified white is close enough; it is not suitable for precise shade matching.

Pros

  • Pen format is convenient for tiny chips and scratches
  • Low £7.99 shelf price
  • Title names fibreglass, steel and wood
  • No brush or open tin needed for a minor repair

Cons

  • No volume, finish or drying time stated
  • Only four reviews and limited performance feedback
  • White shade is not precisely identified
  • Generic listing copy conflicts with the pen format

Best for: Very small cosmetic chips where a generic white touch-up is acceptable.

Less suitable: Panels, full coats, coded colour matching or repairs needing known cure and waterproofing data.

Lackpoint 2K RAL 9001 1 litre set

Rank 11

Lackpoint 2K RAL 9001 1 litre set

∼£50

Our view

The Lackpoint set is a one-litre two-pack coating in RAL 9001 Cream White, a defined off-white rather than pure white. Its title names yachts and motorboats, but the Amazon extract provides almost no practical specification for applying it. There is no review line, coverage figure, drying time, surface recommendation or waterproof statement, so its score reflects missing evidence rather than poor customer ratings. The source also does not say whether the system contains isocyanates, and that must not be assumed either way. Two-pack products require closer attention to the current safety data sheet, mixing instructions and application method than the one-pack tins in this comparison. Do not buy it for spraying or for an unknown substrate until those documents and the required primer have been confirmed.

Pros

  • Defined RAL 9001 Cream White shade
  • One-litre two-pack set
  • Title specifically names yacht and motorboat use

Cons

  • No rating or review evidence in the source file
  • No coverage, drying time or surface recommendation
  • Safety data and application details are absent
  • Cream white rather than pure white

Best for: Experienced users who specifically need RAL 9001 and can verify the full coating system and safety documents before use.

Less suitable: Casual DIY spraying, unknown substrates, pure-white matching or buyers relying only on the Amazon listing for instructions.

How we compared

Each card score starts from the amazon.co.uk star rating divided by 5, times 100, then rounded. We subtract 10 when the review count is under 10, and 4 when it is 10 to 19. We subtract 8 when a star line has no review text, 8 when colour attributes clash, and 4 when a liquid tin is labelled as spray. A file with no review line scores 0. The top pick is the highest score. The best value is the lowest shelf price among white or Bianco liquid tins with at least 10 reviews. Pale cream, the touch-up pen and the two-pack set sit outside that price rule. Prices, stars and counts are the 15 October 2026 extracts. The weights below are the share of attention for each check. They are not a second total, and this was not a laboratory test.

1

Amazon stars

64%

The starting score is the amazon.co.uk star rating divided by 5, times 100, then rounded. A listing with no review line scores 0. That figure is not a durability test.

2

Review-count band

16%

Subtract 10 when the count is under 10, and 4 when it is 10 to 19. A count of 20 or more takes no cut on this band.

3

Review text

8%

Subtract 8 when the saved listing has a star line but no review text, as on the Teamac 2.5 litre tin.

4

Colour line

8%

Subtract 8 when colour attributes clash. The Toplac listing prints Snow White and Navy Grey.

5

4%

Subtract 4 when a liquid tin is labelled spray. The Teamac 1 litre tin and the Multicoat tin both have that clash.

White boat paint buying guide

Decide the job first: topside gloss, bilge enamel, or a non-slip deck. Then match a named white, the substrate, a coverage figure you can use, and a weather window you can keep.

What is white boat paint?

White boat paint, in this comparison, means a coating sold for a boat and described as white, Bianco, pale cream or RAL 9001. The usual topside product is a one-pack alkyd or silicone-alkyd enamel for the hull and cabin above the waterline. It is a different product from antifouling, and a different product from household gloss. Antifouling is HSE biocidal product type 21. A film preservative that only protects the paint film is product type 7.

Best for

  • A one-pack gloss on GRP or wood topsides, once the shade code is known
  • A bilge, locker or engine bay that needs an easy-clean enamel

Not ideal for

  • Below the waterline, osmosis, or a hull you plan to antifoul
  • A garden deck, or a two-pack you intend to spray without the safety data sheet

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1

Painting the bottom with topside enamel

A waterproof line is not antifouling. Antifouling is HSE product type 21. Toplac Plus and Hempel Bilge & Locker are not for permanent immersion. Osmosis and underwater blistering are a yard job.

  2. 2

Treating every white as one colour

Snow White, Polar White, Pure White, Supermarine White, Bianco, pale cream and RAL 9001 are different. The Toplac Amazon page also prints Navy Grey against Snow White. Match the code, not the word white.

  3. 3

Trusting a coverage field that says 1

Use about 9–12 m²/L from the product sheet, and plan two or three coats. At 12 m²/L, 750 ml is about 9 m² per coat before waste. That is a rule of thumb. Do not paint into dew or below 5°C, and do not skip the undercoat on chalked gelcoat.

What to weigh up

Job, shade and substrate

High

The first split is the job above the waterline: topside gloss, bilge enamel, or non-slip deck. A waterproof attribute does not make a topside into antifouling. Named whites are the second split. Snow White on the Toplac sheet, Polar White part H53200-10501, Pure White part H53200-10231, Supermarine White, Bianco, pale cream and RAL 9001 are different colours. The Toplac Amazon attributes also clash Snow White with Navy Grey. GRP, wood, steel and aluminium each have a prep line.

Coverage, pack and the weather window

High

Trust about 9–12 m²/L from the sheets, not an Amazon field that says 1. Toplac Plus and Teamac Marine Gloss are 12 m²/L. Hempel Brilliant Gloss is about 11 to 11.2 m²/L. Bilge & Locker is about 11 m²/L. Non-Slip is 9.2 m²/L. At 12 m²/L, 750 ml is about 9 m² per coat before waste, as a rule of thumb. Two or three coats are specified. One UK review painted a 25-foot cruiser in three coats and did not state the volume, so that review is not a tin-size formula. One-pack alkyd is the DIY default.

Which option suits you?

Three typical situations, each with a recommendation from this comparison.

Bilge, locker or engine bay

You are freshening an enclosed working space, and a wipe-clean film matters more than a topside gloss. International Danboline Bianco, 750 ml, is about £32.99, with 4.8 from 26 reviews. Nine UK texts describe bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay. The listing does not give a coverage rate.

GRP, wood or metal topsides

You need a one-pack gloss above the waterline and a named white. Hempel Brilliant Gloss Polar White, 750 ml, is about £34.64 and lists metal, fibreglass and wood. It is 4.6 from 10 reviews, with no coverage figure on the listing. Confirm the shade before you buy a second tin.

A deck you walk on

You want granules, and you will keep the tin on the boat. Hempel Non-Slip white, 750 ml, is about £34.60, listed at 9.2 m²/L, with 4.6 from 29 reviews. The title says marine use only. Household decking stain does not belong on this job.

Common questions about white boat paints

Which white boat paint is the top pick here?
The top pick is International Danboline Bianco, 750 ml, at about £32.99. Amazon.co.uk shows 4.8 from 26 reviews, and nine UK review texts describe bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay. The listing names resistance to oil, fuel and humidity. It does not publish a coverage rate or a drying time, and it is a bilge coating rather than a topside gloss. The score is 96, the star line with no sample-size cut. It is not a weathering test.
Which white boat paint is the best value?
The best value is Hempel Bilge & Locker white, 750 ml, at about £28.99, with 4.8 from 10 reviews. That is the lowest shelf price among white or Bianco liquid tins with at least 10 reviews. Reviewers describe good coverage on a boat interior and easy application. The Amazon coverage field says 1, so you cannot use it to buy a volume. The surface line names steel. Pale cream at about £27.13, the pen at about £7.99 and the two-pack set sit outside that price rule.
How much does white boat paint cost on amazon.co.uk?
On the 15 October 2026 extracts, the touch-up pen is about £7.99. Mid tins, from 750 ml to 1 litre, run from pale cream at about £27.13 and Bilge & Locker at about £28.99 through Danboline at about £32.99, non-slip at about £34.60, Polar White at about £34.64 and Teamac 1 litre at about £34.99, up to Toplac Plus at about £38.75. The two-pack set is about £49.83, Teamac 2.5 litres about £66.36 and Pure White about £74.25. These figures are not a live check.
Does a waterproof listing mean antifouling?
No. A waterproof line on these listings is not antifouling and not a coating for below the waterline. Antifouling is HSE biocidal product type 21. A film preservative that only protects the paint is product type 7. The Merchant Shipping (Anti-Fouling Systems) Regulations 2024 restrict organotin and cybutryne on ships. They do not turn topside enamel into bottom paint. Toplac Plus and Hempel Bilge & Locker are not for permanent immersion. Call a yard for osmosis or underwater blistering.
Do these whites match each other?
Snow White, Polar White, Pure White, Supermarine White, Bianco, pale cream and RAL 9001 are different shades. The Toplac sheet uses Snow White, and the Amazon listing also prints Navy Grey, so confirm the tin. Hempel Polar White is part H53200-10501. Pure White is H53200-10231. Multicoat is pale cream, code #F5F5DC. The Lackpoint set is RAL 9001 cream white. The touch-up pen says white in the title and does not name a code.
Can the white non-slip tin go on a garden deck?
Hempel Non-Slip, 750 ml, at about £34.60, is a white coating with granules, listed at 9.2 m² per litre, and the title says marine use only. It also says not to use it with household decking. One UK review calls it really non-slip. Another wanted more grit. One reviewer used it on paving slabs, which sits outside the stated job. Keep household decking stain off the boat, and keep this tin off the garden deck. The listing gives a one-hour dry time and a three-day full cure.
When should a yard take over?
Call a yard for osmosis or underwater blistering, for steel you cannot make bright and prime the same day, for any plan to spray two-pack paint, and for a whole topside whose shade code is unknown. HSE says isocyanates in polyurethane coatings can sensitise the lungs, and that spraying is a much higher exposure than a brush. The Lackpoint saved listing does not say whether isocyanates are present. Do not assume either way. Take leftover solvent paint and white spirit to the council. Do not pour them down the sink.
Is 750 ml enough for a topside, or do I want varnish?
A clear film on brightwork is a varnish, kept in the boat varnish comparison. On this page, a 750 ml tin at 12 m² per litre is about 9 m² per coat before waste. That is a rule of thumb, not a measured hull. One UK review painted a 25-foot cruiser in three coats and did not state the volume, so 750 ml is not a figure for that boat. Toplac Plus asks for at least 5°C, with the paint itself at least 15°C.

Our verdict

The top pick is International Danboline Bianco, 750 ml, at about £32.99, with 4.8 from 26 reviews and nine UK texts about bilges, an anchor locker and an engine bay. That score is 96, the highest in this set, and it is a bilge coating. The best value is Hempel Bilge & Locker white, 750 ml, at about £28.99, with 4.8 from 10 reviews, the lowest shelf price among white or Bianco liquid tins with at least 10 reviews. For a gloss topside, use a named white such as Polar White, Pure White, Snow White or Supermarine White, and check the shade on the tin. None of these scores is a weathering test.
